Free Online Gurmat Course by Prof Darshan Singh

Today reading, singing and listening to Gurbani has become a mere source

of

musical enjoyment. Continuous series of Akhand paths and numerous Kirtan

darbars being held in and outside our Gurudwara places, have become more

like rituals. Life of a Sikh is not changing at all. Even those Gursikhs

who have been doing Nitnem daily and paying obeisance daily at

Gurudwaras

for years, are seen doing things in their life contrary to Gurmat

philosophy. The message of Guru Granth Sahib ji on this is very clear :

parrae sunae kiaa hoee ||

jo sehaj n miliou soee ||1||

What use is reading and listening,

if celestial peace is not attained? ||1||

So Gurbani is not subject of listening and reading only. Gurbani is our

Guru

and to understand the message of Guru and then to implement that message

in

real life is responsibility of every Sikh.

In view of this urgent need and with the inspiration of Gursikh families,

Guru Granth Sahib Academy has been started by Prof Darshan Singh ji

Khalsa,

where the effort will be made, to make everyone irrespective of caste,

color, creed understand the message of Gurbani.

Guru Granth Sahib contains the universal message. Spreading that message

globally and making everyone understand that message can create better

society.

Gurmat Gian course is a four-month Gurbani course where in services of

Prof

Darshan Singh Khalsa will be used to

explain Gurbani. The courses will

be

held from May 1 to August 30 every year in Toronto on Friday 7pm to 9pm

.

Local class will have strength of 60 70 students. All students will be

given audio CD/ tape of the class so that they can listen to it

repeatedly

at home.

Anyone thoughout the world can attend the course over Internet. Academy

has

made arrangements for latest state of art audio and video recording and

broadcasting of the class session. The recording will be available on

academy web site next day for one week. The teaching will be in form of

Kirtan and katha (discourse). All thoughts will be based on Guru Granth

Sahib.

Admission is open to everyone, irrespective of religion, caste, color,

age

and sex. At the end of the session a test will be taken and those who

pass

the test will be issued certificates. For those who will take course

through

web, test will be conducted over Internet and certificates will be

mailed.

Gurmat Gian is oriented more towards adults. For Gurmat Gian course

minimum age requirement is 13 years. The Gurmat Gian course is for whole

family not for children only.

Gurmat Gian course is free to everyone. Guru Granth Sahib Academy has

not

fixed any fee. If you think that you have benefited from the course or

support the activities of Academy you can donate whatever you want to

keep

Academy running.

How do I get admission to the course?

Application form is available on the web site for online filling and

submission

Do I have to come to Academy building to attend the course?

If you live in Toronto area, you can come and attend the class. Class

will

be held every Friday 7pm to 9pm from May 01-August 30. If you are

outside

Toronto metro area and you want to attend the course, fill out the

application form and you will be given password which will provide you

the

access to the course material.

What is in course Material?

Course Material will be in audio/video of discourse(katha) from Gurbani.Each

year different banis like Japji, sukhmani, Jaap sahib, Rehras, Anand

Sahib,

Asa di waar and Barahmaha along with several other important topics from

Gurbani will be explained.

Who will teach the course?

Singh Sahib Prof Darshan Singh ji Khalsa will teach the course through

Gurbani Kirtan and Katha.

If it is regular Kirtan and Katha then how it is course?

Since each year one bani will be explained over the period of four

months,

you will have to attend all classes . If you miss one then the

continuity

will be broken, so sincere commitment of four months is required. At the

end

a test will be conducted.

Why Test?

As explained earlier that the Gurbani is not subject of listening and

reading only but of understanding and adopting those values into the

life so

a Written test will be conducted to check how much you have been able to

learn from the course and what part of the teaching you will adopt in

your

life.

If I do not send application form will I still be able to access the

course

material?

No, course material will be on secured server and password will be

assigned

to you to download material.

When and how long will the course material available?

audio/video recording of Friday class will be available on internet from

Saturaday for one week when it will be replaced by new recording.

Can I distribute audio/video of course in my local gurudwara?

No, course material should not be given to any one without permission

from

Academy. All material is copyrighted to Guru Granth Sahib academy and

any

type of distribution without written consent of academy is legally and

ethically wrong.. If you know of anyone who wants to join in course and

do

not have web access have that person fill out

application , inform the

academy and we will provide you consent to share material with that

particular individual.

What are requirements for taking course over internet?

Computer, along with sound card and speakers. Most computers do come

from

factory with internal sound card. Windows media player will be required

to

play files, click here to download free windows media player from

Microsoft.

Internet connection is also required. Those who have cable modem and

DSL

can download video recording . Those having 56k line should download

audio

recording only.

Camps are well established forms of outdoor education. Concept of camps

in

sikhism is not new, visit to "Dastar Asthan" at Paonta Sahib tells us

that

camps to promote the personality of Sikh used to held by Guru Gobind

singh

ji. Even modern scientific evidence points out that camps effect

positive

psychological changes in campers.

Sikh parents in westren hemphisere are concerned that the strong pull to

assimilate is stealing their children's Sikh identity, some sikh

children

are so isolated that they don't know any other Sikh families other than

their relatives. Summer camps are a kind of chance for passing on

sikh

religious heritage to the children. With this in mind Guru Granth Sahib

Academy has decided to hold 1 week summer camp for Sikh children in

Toronto, Canada. Camp will be hold in month of July and each camp will

have

around 15-20 students. Various activities at camp will include:

1) Teaching sikh way of life which will include developing love for God

and

Guru, learning Sikh tradition, sikh history and culture, practising

Gurudwara etiquettes, learning turban tying, learning Nitnem and kirtan.

2)Personality Development will include installing sikh character and

values,

leadership qualities, art of public speaking and community spirit and

service.

>On last day of camp there will be joint session of children and parents

so

that the parents can be updated on what children learn in the camp and

how

the parents have to create sikhi atmosphere at home so that children can

stay motivated to learn and practise sikhi.

Camp Special: Prof Darshan Singh ji Khalsa will be personally

supervising

all the activities of summer camp and will hold one to one session with

each

children to answer questions.

Ek Onkar Study cirlce Toronto, Canada under the guidence of Singh Sahib

Prof

Darshan Singh ji Khalsa has decided to launch several Gurmat

parchar

programs to promote Sikhi. These programs are mostly oriented towards

children, Sikh youth and Sikh women.

To create awareness among the children for our glorious history and

motivate children to keep Sikh Identity intact, a special program

"Practical Sikhi training for childrem" will be held every Saturday

from

11am to 2 pm. All Activities will be preformed by children.

Sikh women in the role of mother, sister and wife in a family

has a

special role in propagating Sikh identity and principles. To prepare

sikh

women for this challenge a special program "Weekly Gurmat Training for

women" will be held every saturday from 7pm to 9pm where all

activities

will be preformed by the Sikh women

For Local Sangat a "Gurmat Samagam" will be held every Sunday

from

10am to 1pm.

To check widespread apostacy among Sikh youth, Gurbani

literature

in the form of CD/audio tapes explaining various Gurmat concepts is

being

distributed free. You are requested to listen to CD "Sikh Di Pechan" and

actively distribute it further.

Every week arrangment will be made to teach Punjabi and Keertan

to

Children.

once a jathedar of AKal Takhat

if Im not mistaken title prof only cause he used to teach,

i agree Prof Darshan Singh is very good his katha is very effective i especially liked the one on Marajha Daleep Singh. u can find adio and vid on sikhnet I think.

just downloaded agam roop-where god lives

he says the truth. in 84 ihe openly spoke out against the gov and told the panth to awaken he said what evil was done. he had CID all over him and he knew it but it didnt stop him he was arrested and suff and i belive his daughter was arrested and stuff. not sure if she was killed. any way hope u get the pic. and Dr i tend to trust more then so called Satgurus and chita chola santa. i only belive in true sants who are not all talk and no action but true sant like Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa.
