Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

I think most of it is because of conversion from the indian calander to the modern Gregorian calander (correct me if i'm wrong).
Your completley right! it is the following is from allaboutsikhs.com itd says the original vaisakhi dates:
CE Year Vaisakhi Date

1000 22nd March

1469 27th March

1699 29th March

1752 29th March

1753 9th April (due to change from Julian to Gregorian Calendar)

1799 10th April

1899 12th April

1999 14th April

2100 15th April

This rubbish 'new' calender has messed everyone up, at least before we all celebrated on the same date, now half of us will do one thing on one day and the rest of us do it 2 days later!

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but just needed to add my bit, the sooner we throw this 'new' calender out and revert to the system which has been in use since the days of the das guru's the better. If the old system was good enough for Guru Ji to use those months in Gurbani, then its good enough for me as well.

Only thing it has caused is further panthic dis-unity.

Well veerji, this is the last time we'll be confused, because it will always be on the 14th from now on. This is because the old calendar was lunar based, which screwed up the date frequently. The nanakshai calander is solar based, and will never change.
Only thing it has caused is further panthic dis-unity.

I don't see how creating a calendar for us to all come under can cause panthic dis-unity.

Sorry bro your missing my point.

Before this thing was introduced, all of us would find out which date the dihara was on and go about our business on that date.

Now some gurdware sahibs will celebrate on the 13th as by the old system and the places adopting the new calender will celebrate on the 14th.

Who was this dude who created this? Some guy from the west decides to go about 'sorting it our for us'. The date wasnt messed up before, it changed as you say due to different systems. There was no Sarbat Khalsa or anything even similar conducted to pass something which doesnt just effect our lives, but effects our entire history. With the new system whole days of history have dissapeared!

Most of the older dharmic isthaan's such as Taksal and Nanaksar (i think) and others have refused to adopt the phd project stuff.

Are we that unintelligent that we couldnt cope with dates moving a day or two, like sikhs have been doing for hundreds of years??

The calender project is done using something which we here are familiar with, so that we can work with 12 months in a year, with a set number of days in each month etc etc.

What about the months that Guru Ji used? Guru Ji used mahg, fugun, chetar, vesakh etc etc? What happened to those? Will we replace these with January february and march?

This is just another modernisation attempt. Many will think its a good idea, but many others myself included think its just tinkering away at things which were fine and good as they were.

Happy Vaisakhi to everyone on the 13th April (1st of Vesakh).

Actually pyareo..today (the 14th of April) is the First of Vaisakh and Vaisakhi..according to the Panthic Calendar and today is Sangrand, which is also on the Calendar (nanakshai Panthic Calendar) and if you go to sgpc.net the Hukamnama from Darbar Sahib also states 14th April is the first of Vaisakh..

Vaisakhi mubaraka!!! ^_^

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
