Amritsar (PTI): A Sikh priest at the world famous Golden Temple was seriously injured on Sunday after one of his fellow clergyman attacked him with a 'kirpan' on the temple premises.

Paushera Singh and his son Pargat Singh had heated arguments with Ranjit Singh on the periphery of the Golden Temple and allegedly attacked him with his 'kirpan'.

Ranjit was shifted to Government Hospital following profuse bleeding, police said.

Panic gripped the devotees who moved away from the spot.

Members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) task force reached the spot and reported the matter to the police.

While SGPC ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident, police registered a criminal case against the accused.
