Sena chief: We will hit back if Sikhs repeat act

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Sunday warned Sikhs in Mumbai against indulging in further violence.

Thackeray was reacting to the violence that occurred in Mumbai on Friday and Saturday after a Sikh protester was gunned down allegedly by a bodyguard of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

In a strongly-worded statement frontpaged by party organ, Saamna , Thackeray said it was the Sena which had protected Sikhs in Mumbai after the assassination of Indira Gandhi.

Thackeray noted that a large number of Sikhs were seen roaming around the streets of Mulund brandishing swords and attacking innocent people, including women. Train commuters were targeted for no fault of theirs, he said, adding that several women went to the Shiv Sena shakha in Mulund and complained to local leader Prabhakar Shinde about the violence.

However, despite complaints from Shinde, the police failed to take action, he added. Thackeray said the Sikhs should ask their elders about the Delhi riots in case they had forgotten about them. He further pointed out that if the anti-Sikhs riots did not spread to Mumbai in 1984, it was largely because of the Shiv Sena.

He said the then President, Giani Zail Singh, had thanked him for protecting members of his community in Mumbai while those in Delhi had suffered.

Sources in the Sena said party activists would not remain mute spectators if the Sikhs resorted to violence in future.

"The open display of swords, assaults on innocent men and women, forced closure of shops and vandalising of railway property have angered Thackeray and his son Uddhav. We will hit back if the Sikhs repeat their acts. Nobody is justifying the opening of fire by the Dera bodyguard, but why should innocent people and public property in Maharashtra be targeted?" a senior Sena leader asked.

Raj Thackeray is the nephew of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.

Once seen as the future leader of Shiv Sena after his uncle Bal Thackeray, Raj Thackeray parted ways with Shiv Sena after he realised that Bal Thackeray won't give him precedence in the party over Uddhav Thackeray (son of Bal Thackeray). Raj Thackeray founded Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in March 2006...

Raj is nephew of Bal Thackray .

Although Raj is now heading a breakaway group of Shiv Sena called Maharashtra Navnirmaan Sena(MNS) they are both different sides of the same coin .

Actually there is competition between MNS and Shiv Sena on who can spew more venom against the non marathis .Now it is time of Sikhs .

They want to show that Sikhs are living on their mercy in Bombay .This is a wake up call for the Sikhs in Bombay and ponder seiously over what these Thackerays actually mean .

One characteristic feature of protests by Sikhs in Jammu is that they are burning effigies of "Maharashtra police" also along with lucha saadh. Moreover many women and children are also seen in Jammu protests.I know about the Jammu Sikhs .I remember during 1984 when I was in Jammu many Sikh women and children blocked the Tawi bridge for many hours .They were supported by a number of Sikh truck operators.Women and children were seen with banners on which it was written "Indra Gandhi kutti" .Ultimately a helicopter had to be brought to observe them from above as the Jam was so big .

Jammu is infact considered a stronghold of so called Shiv Sena and in those days Shiv Sena used to give regular band calls on some pretext or the other .But the Sikhs of Jammu are fearless.

Shiv Sena are side issue, why divert attention from lucha sauda who is the real villan of the piece to marathi shiv sena who have nothing against sikhs. Their agenda is against islamic terrorism and ideology so let them get on with their interests, while Sikhs pursue theirs. Lets not forget that it was secular congress mobs who murdered 5,000 innocent Indian Sikhs in 3 days of congress govt backed state terrorism/violence. It wasnt hindu groups, thats just stupid ISI propaganda wants to cause a rift between hindu and sikhs so that they fight each other while their islamic agenda and domination is furthered. We should not be making further enemies with our potential allies that is true stupidity.

"Secular" Brahmin led Congress party = anti-sikh since its founding and creation of india in 1947. Lets know who the true enemies of aspirations of Sikhs are.

I believe All Sikhs should shashtardhari and have every right to defend themselves and to demonstrate a strength of show,I couldn;t care less about Public Buses or Police cars being smashed they are owned by the very Govt that instigates these attacks on the Khalsa Panth.

May I remind all Sikhs not to fall for the lies of ShivSena, when they were the ones in 80's making threats against SS Bhindranwale, they were the ones who bad mouthed and threatened him and Sikhs, they were the ones who burned effigies last year in December and the previous years of our great hero
