Pet Dogs Are Not Allowed In Sikhism...

Recommended Posts

^not all muslims comply with that - not all would put their hand on their qu'ran and lie - even to a 'kafir'.

Taken from Zafarnama...it might not be 100% accurate but you get the gist...it's AIMED at Aurangzeb as the letter is addressed to him too:

KE EEN KAR NEK AST DEEN PARVARI

CHU YAZDAAN SHANAASI B-JAAN BAR-TARI

This act on your part ( of meeting Guru Ji ) will be as per your religion

since keeping of word ( given in name of Almighty Himself) is above one’s

own life.

TURA MAN NADAANAM KE YAZDAAN SHANAAS

BAR-AAMAD Z TU KAR-HA DIL KHARAASH

I do not know if you believe in the Almighty since you have performed too

many deeds that were tyrannical

SHANAASID HAMEEHN TU BA YAZDAAN KARIM

NA-KHAWAHAD HAMEEN TU B-DAULAT AZEEM

The bountiful Almighty knows your (evil) deeds well. He does not want you

to continue having this great wealth ( Aurangzeb! Your kingdom is coming to

an end by the will of Almighty ).

AGAR SAD KURAN RA B-KHORDI KASAM

MARA EITBAAR-E NA YAK ZARRA DAM

Now if you swear a hundred times on Koran, I will not trust you for a

moment even equivalent to a single speck

Personally i dont like animals because they're scary, all of em, but i dont think there's anything wrong in keeping a pet because it is a soul. And a soul is a soul no matter what form it's in. So why not do its seva? I mean it cant exactly affect your sikhi jeevan negatively can it?

Bro face your fears head on, cos when the gready fat cats have bleed the oil well's dry were gonna have to revert back to the freinds that we know for transport ie. horses

As for the dogs thing it sounds like this so called "sant" has been spending too long in the sun sippin lassi. You should have asked him where in Guru Ji does it say his waffle. Only believe what Guru Ji says the rest is manmukhi.

Puratan paintings of Guru Hargobind and Guru Gobind Singh sometimes depict them with accompnying dogs (albeit you need to bear in mind that most such paintings date from Maharaja Ranjit Singh's time and thus were commissioned works done from imagination of popular concept).

The dogs were breeds related to the modern Afghan and Saluki hounds and were used for hunting.

Muslims are not allowed to keep dogs as it is haram for them. An Ethiopian Coptic friend once told me that in her homeland there is a story that Muhammad buried a container of milk and was going to dupe the people in the supposed miracle that he was about to perform by finding the milk from the earth. Unfortunately a dog dug up the container and the people ridiculed Muhammed as a fraudster and he returned back to Arabia cursing dogs and told his followers never to keep them.

If only I had the time for walkies etc... I would love to keep a German Shepherd, as I have always admired their intelligence, loyalty and ruggedness - beautiful creatures. Maybe another thing for my retirement list!

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
