Setting Up Missionaries

Khalsa ji, those of you that live in the UK might have watched or noticed the charity t.v event “sports relief” last Friday. Basically donating money to unfortunate people in the 3rd world countries. While watching this charity event and seeing those videos I felt really bad inside myself and felt extremely fortunate in the position I am in today such as getting a great education/ food on a plate, shelter etc.

Those videos included kids who lost there parent due to aids in Africa or kids in asia who also lost their parents and unable to go to school and having no choice to work in these dreadful places with low wages and being treated badly.

The point that I am trying to make is that is it really enough that we just donate money and feel as Sikhs we have done our duty. The reality for me was that when I watched these kids in the 3rd world country I felt really bad and once I donated some money I felt just a bit better but thought that much more must be done to help the situation in the 3rd. world .the problem is that now it nearly been a week I have forgotten their pain and gone back to my maya path and those kids haven’t entered my mind once.

When I speak to people about getting more involved to help these kids all I usually get is “that is there kismat” and “you have to look after yourself” and also “charity begins at home” . Also people also say you can give a lot of money to these charities but the problem will keep going on.

When people have these types of views it gets me upset because all major religions across the world believe in helping the unfortunate but I just don’t see that happening. Maybe in parts of some countries its happening but its not happening enough. This brings me to my next point of getting Sikhs and other communities to set up some sort of missionaries in these 3rd world countries and start dealing with these problems face on.

Khalsa ji many of you might be thinking that this is a completely steep step and not practical solution but I believe it can happen. How much money comes into our gurdwaras and wasted on random things?, lets use that money to instead to building schools, educate teachers, provide free medicine and also work along side these people so they can get the best out of their life etc, so what if the people we are helping are not on par with sikhi. If someone knocked on Guru Nanak maharaj ji door and asked for help I don’t believe he would close the door on their face whether they followed Ram, prophet Mohammed was homosexual, had blue skin, 9 arms etc. guru ji would take them in and care for them .

I know I have gone on so I will finish here, lets not turn our back on this problem and say its not our problem. Let’s step up and try and do something. I’m not saying this will be done in a month or even a year but with each other support we can set up these missionaries just like in guru ji time and help people who need it.

Sorry if I have offended anyone
