Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fathe

This topic has been created for people who wish to help out on the day, but as some issues have been raised, i'd like to make a few points just to clarify

1) The concerns of the petitioners were alleviated in a meeting with the Sikh council a month or two back and all points were addressed.

2) The aim of having Darbar Sahib at the park is to increase Sikhi parchar and revolve the celebrations around Guru and Panth rather than the usual panjabiyat culture.

The theme is Guru and Panth which is something that we collectively need to promote, especially as 2008 will be a huge year for us.

3) Maharaj has been and will continue to be treated with the utmost of respect, sewadaars young and old who plan the whole event can vouch for this as could the Sikh community who attended Darbar Sahib.

The sewadaars have made all efforts to ensure that the ground where Guru Sahib is brought is kept clean, as is the darbar sahib which has NOT been used for parties.

4) A large proportion of sewadaars are Gursikh naujawan who also do Sikhi parchar sewa in their own time such as Sikh websites, organising camps, organising events, amrit parchar etc etc. Some of the elder sewadaars have been doing sewa without any reward for many years. Sikh jathabandi's, organisations and gurdwaras also take part in the organising of this event.

Therefore I seriously doubt that any of the above sewadaars would allow beadbi to happen to Guru Sahib

5) The fight which happened last year should not dictate a change in the theme of the celebrations and/or if the event is cancelled. It is estimated that 80,000 people pass through the park throughout the day and an unfortunate incident should not be detrimental to the prospect of Gurmat parchar to a large number of people, probably the largest outside of India.

6) mophlrkb, sikh youth, malkeet and others who have concerns- please contact the council who will happily answer your questions. Again this topic has been opened for those who wish to help on the day and should not slide into speculation and mudslinging (which tends to happen on these forums)

Even better, if you guys wish to help on the day then please contact the sewadaars as there is always room for improvement/development and every pair of hands count.

Therefore a benti not to debate but to contact the organisers directly and leave this topic how it is.

Nearly everyone seems to have a opinion on this matter:- whether the Vaisakhi Open Air Celebrations should go ahead or not...BUT can I just say, this thread isn't the place for it...A humble benti to all, if you strongly feel against the celebrations taking place, by all means get in contact with the Sikh Council...The Celebrations will be taking place at Handsworth Park on the 27th April 2008 and we are in need of Sewadaars for Darbar Sahib, Shoe area and Langar Hall..If ur interested, contact any one of the numbers on the poster...
