I think being a Sikh, we should dress modest whether its Chola or Western clothes and that would impress the Guru certainly.

If impressing guru was that easy, then all the samagams boys, shastardari singhs, uncles with gentleman uniforms etc etc would be all bhramgyanis by now. blink.gif

:) hit the nail Namstang

lets look at other reasons for a sikh to wear a bana. im sure there are other great reasons to wear bana thn telling someone its to impress the guru.

But then somebody who is dressed like a Singh of Guru Gobind Singh but his acts dont reflect that(like many fake babas), would he impress the Guru .......certainly not.

I personally think that one should dress modest that's it. Wearing Chola or shirt should be personal preference.

erm if a sighni wanted to wear full bani, without leggings under long kashera? where does maryada stand on this?

I remember this being discussed on Tapoban (the old forum) - try running a search there.

hmmm bibia must wear pyjami underneath there baana.

to be honest i think people make out that wearing baana is a massive thing, and something which must be so hard to do, especially when going to work. and we all respect people who wear baana, blah blah lol. we as gursikhs must try to keep rehit, japp naam, recite gurbaani, respect others, try to control 5 theives etc, on a daily basis, this is hard work. its a constant battle. wearing baana is easy, compared to battling the mind.

i think wearing it to work is a must too, its great parchaar, so many goreh ask me questions and have a deep respect for me and my religion. its a reminder for me too, that as well as looking like a sikh, i need to act like a sikh.

vahigurooo

baana is essential for sikhs to wear.

I don't think its a big deal if bibia don't wear pyjami underneath their baana. The only reason people say this is due to lust. If everyone was bhramgyanis; both men and women, they wouldn't say its a must for bibia to wear pyjami because they will be free of lust and will see the light of God in all. Guru Ji did NOT make this a rehit, so no one can say its a must. If Bibia wear bana without pyjami they are covered enough; we are not muslims.

no. bibia must wear pyjami.

you cant say oh singhs dont wear pyjami, so bibia dont have to wear them.

in guru jees time, the singhs used to wrestle topless, shud bibia do the same?

at smagams and that wen its really hot you see singhs walking around in their kachere and nothing else, is it ok for bibia to do the same? :)

i think not.

do you really think worrying about if you should have to wear pyjami is gonna help you? why wouldnt you want to wear them? you yourself sed wear baana 24/7, in most countries pyjami is a must for singhs aswell because its so cold.

just do us a favour, keep your pyjami on bibi jee.

<<<<I'm talking about Bana, NOT about men wrestling topless.>>>>

yes i know, but with your logic 'boys dont have to wear pyjami so why do bibia have to wear them'

then should we say men did this.. so should women do that....

i am not going to discuss this no more with you. if you are going to make points you should be prepared to listen to the other side. i know there are two sides, i was merely expressing my veiws.

nothing more to say.

I just posted a topic that is putting praise to bana and sikhi and people just come and twist my words and start a useless debate. This is how messed up ss is and the moderators don't even care. I've been told by so many people how rubbish ss is and now I have to agree. Enjoy sharing ur negative views.

ps. you guys have sooooooo much love (being sarcastic)

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
