Greed is a dog; falsehood is a filthy street-sweeper. Cheating is eating a rotting carcass.

Slandering others is putting the filth of others into your own mouth. The fire of anger is the outcaste who burns dead bodies at the crematorium.

the pleasure of horses, the pleasure of a soft bed in a palace, the pleasure of sweet treats and the pleasure of hearty meals

eaethae ras sareer kae kai ghatt naam nivaas ||2||

-these pleasures of the human body are so numerous; how can the Naam, the Name of the Lord, find its dwelling in the heart? ||2||

Those words are acceptable, which, when spoken, bring honor.

Those who are pleasing to Him are good. What else is there to be said? ||3||

Wisdom, honor and wealth are in the laps of those whose hearts remain permeated with the Lord.

What praise can be offered to them? What other adornments can be bestowed upon them?

The mobile and immobile creatures, insects and moths -

in numerous lifetimes, I have passed through those many forms. ||1||

I lived in many such homes, O Lord,

ਜਬ ਹਮ ਰਾਮ ਗਰਭ ਹੋਇ ਆਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Jab ham rām garabẖ ho­ė ā­ė. ||1|| rahā­o.

before I came into the womb this time. ||1||Pause||

ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ ਤਪੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰੀ ॥

Jogī jaṯī ṯapī barahamcẖārī.

I was a Yogi, a celibate, a penitent, and a Brahmchaaree, with strict self-discipline.

ਕਬਹੂ ਰਾਜਾ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ॥੨॥

Kabhū rājā cẖẖaṯarpaṯ kabhū bẖėkẖārī. ||2||

Sometimes I was a king, sitting on the throne, and sometimes I was a beggar. ||2||

ਸਾਕਤ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ॥

Sākaṯ mareh sanṯ sabẖ jīveh.

The faithless cynics shall die, while the Saints shall all survive.

ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਨੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਪੀਵਹਿ ॥੩॥

Rām rasā­in rasnā pīveh. ||3||

They drink in the Lord's Ambrosial Essence with their tongues. ||3||

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ॥

Kaho Kabīr parabẖ kirpā kījai.

Says Kabeer, O God, have mercy on me.

ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਅਬ ਪੂਰਾ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੪॥੧੩॥

Hār parė ab pūrā ḏījai. ||4||13||

I am so tired; now, please bless me with Your perfection. ||4||13||

With the mind encircled by wickedness and evil, people do evil deeds.

The ignorant worship the love of duality; in the Lord's Court they shall be punished.

So worship the Lord, the Light of the soul; without the True Guru, understanding is not obtained.

Meditation, penance and austere self-discipline are found by surrendering to the True Guru's Will. By His Grace this is received.

The Lord is in he mountains. The Lord is in the cave. The Lord is in he earth. The Lord is in the sky. 2.52.

The Lord is Accountless. The Lord is guiseless. The Lord is blemishless. The Lord is sans duality.4.54.

ਅਕਾਲ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਪਾਲ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਛੇਦ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਭੇਦ ਹਹੀ ॥੫॥੫੫॥

The Lord is non-temporal. The Lord cannot be reated. The Lord is Indestructible. The Lord`s secrets cannot be known. 5.55.

ਅਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਸੁ ਤੇਜ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਤੰਤ੍ਰ ਹਰੀ ॥੬॥੫੬॥

The Lord is not in mystical digrams. The Lord is not in incantations. The Lord is of bright effulgence. The Lord is not in Tantras (magical formulas). 6.56.

ਅਜਾਤ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਪਾਤ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਮਾਤ ਹਰੀ ॥੭॥੫੭॥

The Lord does not take birth. The Lord does not experience death. The Lord is without any friend. The Lord is without mother. 7.57.

ਅਰੋਗ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਸੋਗ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਭਰਮ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਕਰਮ ਹਰੀ ॥੮॥੫੮॥

The Lord is without any ailment. The Lord is without grief, The Lord is Illusionless. The Lord is Actionless. 8.58.

The Lord is Unconquerable. The Lord is Fearless. The Lord`s secrets cannot be known. The Lord is Unassailable. 9.59.

The Lord is Indivisible. The Lord cannot be slandered. The Lord cannot be punished. The Lord is Supremenly Glorious.10.60.

ਅਤੇਵ ਹੂਰੀ ॥ ਅਭੇਵ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਜੇਵ ਹਰੀ ॥ ਅਛੇਵ ਹਰੀ ॥੧੧॥੬੧॥

The Lord is extremely Great. The Lord`s mystery cannot be known. The Lord needs no food. The Lord is Invincible. 11.61.

The lustful, lecherous man desires many women, and he never stops peeking into the homes of others.

Day after day, he commits adultery again and again, and then he regrets his actions; he wastes away in misery and greed. ||3||

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is incomparable and priceless; it is the treasure of Ambrosial Nectar.

When you are under the power of sexual desire, anger and worldly attachment, or a greedy miser in love with your wealth;

who has never taken the time to listen to sacred books, hymns and poetry

and perform the six ceremonial rituals, over and over again, performing worship services and ritual bathings.

Even so, if they have not embraced love for the Supreme Lord God, then they shall surely go to hell. ||5||

You may possess empires, vast estates, authority over others, and the enjoyment of myriads of pleasures;

you may have delightful and beautiful gardens, and issue unquestioned commands;

you may have enjoyments and entertainments of all sorts and kinds, and continue to enjoy exciting pleasures

-and yet, if you do not come to remember the Supreme Lord God, you shall be reincarnated as a snake. ||6||

you may have armies well-equipped with weapons, and all may salute you with respect;

you may be unmindful of death, and night and day revel in pleasures;

but still, if you do not come to remember the Supreme Lord God, you shall fall under the power of the Messenger of Death. ||8||

The Supreme Lord showers His Mercy, and we find the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

The more time we spend there, the more we come to love the Lord.

The Lord is the Master of both worlds; there is no other place of rest.

Ga­oṛī gu­ārėrī mehlā 3.

Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Mehl:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥

Saṯgur milai vadbẖāg sanjog.

Through great good fortune and high destiny, one meets the True Guru.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ॥੧॥

Hirḏai nām niṯ har ras bẖog. ||1||

The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is constantly within the heart, and one enjoys the sublime essence of the Lord. ||1||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ॥

Gurmukẖ parāṇī nām har ḏẖi­ā­ė.

O mortal, become Gurmukh, and meditate on the Name of the Lord.

ਜਨਮੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Janam jīṯ lāhā nām pā­ė. ||1|| rahā­o.

Be victorious in the game of life, and earn the profit of the Naam. ||1||Pause||

ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਮੀਠਾ ॥

Gi­ān ḏẖi­ān gur sabaḏ hai mīṯẖā.

Spiritual wisdom and meditation come to those unto whom the Word of the Guru's Shabad is sweet.

ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਚਖਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੨॥

Gur kirpā ṯė kinai virlai cẖakẖ dīṯẖā. ||2||

By Guru's Grace, a few have tasted, and seen it. ||2||
