'sem-lareevaar'

Vaahiguroo Jee Kaa Khaalsaa Vaahiguroo Jee Kee Fathe!!

I wanted to make this post on Tapoban, but for some reason those forums aren't working...

So anyways, I wanted to know what the Sangat's view is on 'Semi-LaReevaar'?

A Singh from Malaysia is handwriting Mahaaraaj Jee da Saroop here in Edmonton and is almost done. The way he wrote the BaaNee was 'Semi-LaReevaar.' There IS spaces between the words, although small spaces, but the top line is connected.

Obviously this is much better than Pad-Chhed, but yet not an ideal situation. What does the Sangat think, should we be trying to do Prakaash of this Saroop?

lol whats the difference..? Still got the spaces..

The point of Lareevar was that you had to take Santhia just to read Baani - Therefore all problems of ppl mispronouncing the words woud disappear.

i fspa ceswe replaced a tthewron gwordth enthis sentence woul dloo kli ke this

Why not keep all the words together but have them in different colors

e.g.>>>>

Youcanhaveitlikethis?

:TH:

lol wheres the colours?? lol

Well its better NOT to make it tooo colorful because people might start complaining about that. Its better to have it simple like >>>

GREYBLACKGREYBLACKGREYBLACK

p.s. im being serious, no joke

No, we should not be doing parkash of this Bir. This is like having your cake and trying to eat it, too. The whole point of lareevar is that no human can know for sure what the word breaks are. There are hundreds of places in Guru Granth Sahib where different scholars think the word breaks come at different places.

Can your Singh from Malaysia give a 100% proof that his word breaks are correct? In a sense, if he could, then he'd be Guru.

Please don't bother saying something on the lines of "Traditional organizations like the Nihangs know the correct word breaks." Even if they did, they have enough respect for Maharaj to only parkash the traditional lareevar (unbroken) sarup. That's why they're called a traditional organization.

The olden Singhs did not believe in giving "hints" as to word breaks. Have a look at old manuscripts. They did not even end lines or pages at what we would normally say are word breaks. They just put up as many letters as fit, then put the rest on the next line, or next page. The reason is so that the reader would not pre-judge "oh, here's a word break because the scribe split up the line or page here."

As for the argument that this semi-lareevar will allow people to do path with correct word breaks: they shouldn't be doing path from the Bir anyway. Novice paathis should do paath from sanchis (part volumes of Gurbani). Once they do sehaj paath a few times from word-break (padd-chhed) volumes, then they can graduate to the actual (lareevar) sarup of Guru Sahib.

The idea that we have to change the very form of Maharaj so we can put 4th-grade Punjabi-level readers on doing an Akhand Path is just stupid. If they want to read and listen to Gurbani, there are plenty of resources, audio files, and combination audio-text resources available on and off-line for anybody that wants to do paath and doesn't have a santhia-teacher living nearby.

Oh, BTW, padd-chhed was dreamt up by 3 enemies of the Panth: 1) Ernest Trump, German missionary engaged by the British who created an atrocious translation of Guru Granth Sahib, 2) Babu Teja Singh, who was a kind of guru unto himself, and disbelieved Dasam Granth Sahib, and Bhagat Bani, and 3) Jeevan SIngh Chattar Singh publishers, who made Gurbani into a business, and have a monetary point of view about Gurbani. Absolutely devoid of devotion.

I know that a lot of you hate the SGPC reflexively, but one thing they do right is they are doing parkash of lareevar sarup.

For learning purposes padd chhed pothi or gutka is good.  The scholars agree majority of the time where a word ends.  There are minor differences.  Lets not make the differences the focal point.  If we do, we will lose the real reason Gurbani was given to humans.  Read, listen, sing, contemplate, and embrace the teachings with open arms.  There are countless virtues in Gurbani, his praise can't be measured or ever have an end.  With that said Lareevar is how the Gurus wrote Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and that's how we should do Parkash.  The Gurus know better than us and are our masters and teachers.  Our failings are not to be enforced to change Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

For learning purposes keeping Gurbani Lareevar but color coding will help students learn quicker than padd ched.  The brain trains to see words separately because majority of the world first language is one with words separately and making the transition to Lareevar becomes very difficult.  With color coding and Lareevar a student can get used to full sentences joined together and still have the help of separating words with color coding.  I think a student will have an easier time transitioning to lareevar without the colors in this way.
