Once Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhinderwale was about to go to sleep, and he accidentally knocked over a Gutka Sahib, and it fell on the ground. From what i have heard from many sources is that he immediately began an Akhand Paat Sahib...and did the whole Paat all by himself!!! continuously...no sleeping, no eating!!! thats Chardi Kala!!!

Another story...i heard about this when I went to India in the summer...A SIngh went to the Sarovar at Harimander Sahib for ishnan. He went in and began to do the Mool Mantar...and just kept going...did Japji Sahib, kept going until...he recited the whole Guru Granth Sahib Ji!!!...all from heart!!! He spent several days in the Amrit Sarovar, and when he came out...people noticed that his foot was all eaten up to the bone...all the flesh was eaten up by a fish, but he didn't even notice it because he was so absorbed in Gurbani!!! Thats Cahrdi Kala!!!

i heard sommin about shaheed singh sodhi

b4 he knew his time wuz rype he stood in harminder sahib sarovar for 6months juss took bathroom and langar breaks continusly no sleeep, he would fall while doing abhyaas but the water would wake him up he would fall again and be shocked into waking again

interesting. yea i think doing abyass in the water/river is a good idea since it cools the body down and sikhs are supposed to be like the water too. calm and tolerating, dont boil too quickly..

BUT.. what's the point of harming you body ?? i mean that chardi kala singh can recite SGGSJ outside of sarovar, so why in water? i don't get it jee... (no offense)

maybe a way to show his shardaa?? or he just din realise when he started doin it.. but whatever it is its not easy for normal people like us to do all that.. its only possible for sum1 who's a chardikala sikh ...

just a side note, i heard theres a fish at the golden temple with a gold ring on it's nose or something, and only people who are blessed or very good sikhs can see it.
