vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh

ਕਬੀਰ ਲੂਟਨਾ ਹੈ ਤ ਲੂਟਿ ਲੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ ਲੂਟਿ ॥

kabeer lootnaa hai ta loot lai raam naam hai loot

Kabeer, if you must rob and plunder, then plunder the loot of the Lord's Name.

ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਹੁਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਜਾਹਿੰਗੇ ਛੂਟਿ ॥੪੧॥

fir paachhai pachhutaahugay paraan jaahingay chhoot

Otherwise, in the world hereafter, you will regret and repent, when the breath of life leaves the body.

“lootna”/”loot” = rob, plunder

“raam naam” = God’s name

“paachai” = hereafter

“pachhutaahugay” = repent

“praan” = breath

“jaahingay” = leaves

Maybe Bhagat Kabir Ji was thinking of a robber or pirate when he wrote this Salok, I don’t know.

Obviously, in the bigger picture, there’s no use sneaking about and nicking people’s stuff for money or food. Maharaj told us to earn our living honestly. Bhagat Kabeer Ji has described the name of Akaal Purakh as our true wealth, and our purpose here as Naam-robbers.

Thesedays if you mention death, people think you’re being disrespectful (or mad), but no-one is ever too young to think about death. Death is the only certainty in life. A true Gursikh would have nothing to fear from death. Yet we all do fear death because we fear that the jamdoots will beat us up or we’ll be spun around the life-cycle another few thousand times.

ਮਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥

man naam jap naam aaraaDh an-din naam vakhaanee

O mind, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord; worship the Naam, night and day, and recite the Naam.
