A day after arresting three persons from different places, the district police has claimed that it has achieved a major success by recovering a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives, including 11 kg of RDX, from the three International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF)-Rode group militants.

While the UK-based militant, Paramjit Singh Dhaddi (54), alias Punjab Singh, of Gakhal village in Jalandhar district, was arrested from Ropar district, his two associates Amolak Singh (52) of Akhara village in Ludhiana district, and Jaswinder Singh (23) of Killi Chahal village in Moga district, were arrested from separate locations near the house of former Akal Takht chief Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode in New Hardayal Nagar here, claimed SSP Naunihal Singh.

Apart from the RDX, 11 detonators, four hand grenades, 11 timer devices, two batteries, two pistols with four magazines and 100 cartridges, 10 m of wire and a walkie-talkie set was recovered from their possession.

The SSP said they were newly reactivated militants of the Lakhbir Singh Rode-headed ISYF and were arrested after a tip-off. The contraband had been smuggled into the country recently and presumably was to be used for carrying out disruptive activities in the state during the forthcoming Assembly elections, he added.

Both Amolak, also a grandson of a former chief of Damdami Taksal Gurbachan Singh, and Jaswinder are related to Lakhbir Singh Rode, a nephew of slain Sikh militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. While Amolak and Rode are related as the former’s son is married to the latter’s daughter, whereas Jaswinder is Rode’s nephew.

The SSP said Paramjit went to England in 1970 and used to visit India frequently. He had also been visiting Pakistan regularly and used to remain in touch with his foreign-based masters constantly through telephone.

This year too he had visited Pakistan twice, in June and November, and met a number of dreaded terrorists, including Rode and Ranjit Singh Neeta of the Khalistan Zindabad Force, with an aim to explore the possibilities of reviving terrorist activities in Punjab, Mr Naunihal Singh said, adding that he had also met with the operatives of the ISI.

To a query, the SSP said the role of the former Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode, brother of the ISYF chief, was still under scanner.

The accused were today remanded in five-day police custody by a local court.

Talking to the mediapersons outside the court, Dhaddi termed the entire episode a conspiracy. He said he presumed the RDX packet as his parcel from the UK. He admitted that he used to go to Pakistan to organise langars at gurdwaras there.

Meanwhile, Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode, also the chief of religious wing of Ravi Inder Singh’s political party Akali Dal (1920), termed the entire incident a conspiracy. Talking to mediapersons here this evening, he said the conspiracy had been hatched by a retired police officer, Mr M.P.S. Aulakh, and the Jalandhar Zone IG, Mr Hardeep Singh Dhillon, at the behest of the SAD chief, Mr Parkash Singh Badal.

He, however, could not give any satisfactory reply when asked how SAD chief could hatch a conspiracy during the Congress rule in the state. Everything would be made clear to you within a few days, he said while demanding an independent inquiry into the entire episode.

In a breakthrough, the Punjab Police today seized RDX and other ammunition from a UK-based militant, Paramjit Singh Thadi.

The sources in the Punjab Police disclosed that the exact quantity of the explosives seized from Thadi was yet to be ascertained.

They added that the operation was still on and more seizures were likely by the next morning on the basis of Thadi’s disclosure statement. More arrests were also expected.

The sources said Thadi was taken into custody after the vehicle he was travelling in was intercepted at Chamkaur Sahib, 20 Km from Ropar, by a team of Punjab Police officers on a secret information. Two more persons were also arrested.

Giving details, the sources said Thadi, wanted in a criminal case by the police, was returning from nearby Kandola village after attending a religious function there.

Ropar SSP Kapil Dev said Thadi’s custody was, subsequently, handed over to the Jalandhar police as he was wanted there.

He added that action was not initiated against a former jathedar of Akal Takht, Jasbir Singh Rode, though he was travelling along with Thadi as nothing was found against him.

The sources added that it was apprehended that the ammunition was meant for creating unrest in the state. The possibility of the militants striking with these explosives during the forthcoming Assembly elections could not be ruled out.

Thadi, they asserted, would be interrogated by the police for finding out his possible links with other militants and terrorist outfits active in and outside the state.

Following the arrest, an alert has been sounded. The policemen across the state have been asked to step up vigil.

Refusing to divulge the details, Punjab’s Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP) J.P. Birdi said the police had been on a look-out for Thadi for quite some time. He added that Thadi had been frequenting Pakistan in connection with terrorist activities.

Over 40 persons in plain clothes raided the house of former Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode here today.

Mr Rode's wife Ms Jagdev Kaur said that the raiding party took with them four persons including Bhai Amolak Singh, a grandson of a former chief of Damdami Taksal Gurbachan Singh, Rode's gunman Baljeet Singh and their relative Jaswinder Singh.

She said the raiding party did not reveal their identity despite her insistence. It was not clear whether the raiding party was from Punjab police or from some other agency.

DIG Paramjit Singh Gill said that he did not know anything about the raid as he was in Patiala. None of the senior officials of the district including newly appointed SSP Naunihal Singh, SP City I Satinder Singh and DSP City II H.P.S. Khakh could be contacted despite repeated attempts.

Interestingly, The SHO of concerned division Mr Ashwani Kumar said he was making attempts to know who had raided Rode's house.

I cannot help but laughing when you guys keep referring to this "black monkey's" articles exposing various Singhs.

Since when have you started feeling that a fundamentalist former indian intelligence agent will say anything in favour of Sikhs.These so called patriots(retired,former RAW/CBI agents) of india try to keep themselves in the limelight by writing books and articles after their retirement.

You have to see these guys speaking on various talk shows on indian tv to see how communal and biased their views are.

Sikhs have to beware of what these so called "intellectuals" have to say about various freedom fighting Sikhs .

Please remember this that neither the govt nor the police or media are with the Sikhs here in India .

As regards captain amrinder singh the way he is bowing in front of the indian pm says it all .I thing nothing needs to be said further .It means all that captain does is dictated from above in Delhi which includes retired people like M.K.Dhar .

Anyway people here in Punjab particularly Sikhs have started understanding the wrong policies of badal dal,BJP and Congress .The massive turnout at SAD(Amritsar) and SAD(Longowal) joint conference at yesterday's Shaheedi jor mela at Fatehgarh Sahib is an indication that people are looking towards a third front (Panthic front)in Punjab now.

Even the so called secular newspapers like "Tribune" from Chandigarh,Punjab said that the turnout at SAD(Amritsar) rally was massive.Pictures also point to that .

Rode nuthuggers truly are a sad bunch of losers. Why dont you get off your pedestal and bother reading a few books by Dhar or is it a bit too hard for you to read a comprehend a book which does not use a size 20 font ?

If you bothered to read Dhars books such as Open Secret or Bitter Harvest you might be able to comprehend what the guy stands for. He certainly is not pro GOI, he openly citicises the like of Buta Su (one time home minister) for running death squads, he openly criticises the Punjab Police for the fake encounters they undertook. A pro GOI stooge would never criticise his former paymasters or the PP, he would be spinning stories to mask over fake encounters rather than exposing them.

I think what upsets Rode nuthuggers like you is the fact that Rode the coward has been exposed. Fact is a deal was done when Rode was released and made Jathedar of the Akal Takht. Rode and his boys took weapons and money from the GOI. These are hard facts that you and Rode will never be able to deny. Just like congressi Buta Su has not been able to deny the fact that he was running death squads in the Punjab.

What Parabjyot Singh writes is true, this leach has made a nice living for himself using the name of Shaheed Baba Jarnail Singh Ji. He reminds of all the cretin Indians who try and get everything for free by claiming they are kin of "freedom fighters". Even someone who made a cup of tea for a British policeman will use it as a reason to be classed as a freedom fighter. Has Rode ever done a decent honest days work ? or is he happy living off handouts ? If in the 1980's he attained Shaheedi, you SAME PEOPLE would still point your finger at him and say yes he was an agent of the GOI etc etc.

Strange thing is, you bucnh of sad losers sit in the the UK or elsewhere preaching against Singh Sahib, because you have done so much for the Sikh Panth, you have made so many sacrafices, you lot have organised and paid for the weddings of so many Shaheed Parivaar daughters etc? Nope Singh Sahib and their brother Bhai Lakhvir Singh Ji have never done any of the above, its only you lot who sit behind a computer doing your utmost to make Singh Sahib Ji look bad!

3 Sikhs have been arrested .Except Paramjit Singh Dhaadhi the other 2 are very close relatives of Rode .Do you mean to say that Rode has got his own relatives arrested to save himself ?

If so then why is Rode talking of going to the UN to seek justice on this matter ?

So far as M.K.Dhar is concerned he may have crticised the punjab police on fake encounters just not be dubbed as a GOI agent.Has his criticism of PP been of any use ?We are interested in results rather than lip sympathy.Lip sympathy by the likes of Dhar is done to neutralize the effect so that people like you start calling him a moderate rather than a stooge of GOI.
