*best* Country For The Sikhs?

Recommended Posts

Sat Sangat Ji,

I would like to know what all of you think? Which country is the best for the Sikhs to live in? Now, please respond with why you think the country you stated is the best? Try to be polite. :TH: Some things to take into consideration are:

Whether if the John/Jane Doe's of the country know what a SIKH is.

Are they well-settled and into all kinds of jobs in the country.

Are they well-intregrated into society.

Is there Sikhi Saroop strong, and well respected in the country?

Are their basic rights respected and honoured? ETC..

Now, here is what I think.

Canada.

Advantages- Sikhs are into all kinds of profession here, and quite well-intregrated. Many Canadians do know what the Sikhs are, Are becoming a dominant society in the Canadian community.

Disadvantages- They aren't really scattered all over the place, need to do more to teach people about Sikhism, etc.

USA.

Advantages- Lots of successful entrepreneurs, and professors that are Sikhs, are scattered into every State pretty much.

Disadvantages- Not many American know the difference between Sikhs and other religions, should elect Members of Parliament to help voice concerns about the Sikh Community.

UK.

Advantages- Quite respected community in the country, Are progressing pretty well, Been there for a long time.

Disadavantages- Too many earring wearing Singhs in that country, need TURBAN wearing MP'S (Member of Parliaments), More Punjabism rather than Sikhism there (it seems).

India.

California is the best place for Sikhs. :umm:

What makes you say that, Sir? :TH:

I think UK, bz i sikhs there are from the 2nd or 3rd generation and are well mixed into the society. I live in USA, but i went there recently and have seen sikhs into most of the professions, they even have a sikh person as the police chief.

Interesting, any other reasons?

NOt quite.... Last week i was in BAY AREA, supposdly the focal point of sikhs. I was standing outside my aunts house when couple of teenagers drove in a car and hurled eggs at me. Though they missed, but they did this in braod daylight. In the same area couple of weeks back a sikh guy was stabbed outside his home by a neighbourer. No doubt california has a huge concentration of sikhs, but most americans still dont know diff. between sikhs and muslims. Also in the last year or so, 2 sikh taxi drivers has been killed in richmond area.

I know it is pretty bad. People throw beer bottles at me while they drive by and people yell "you stupid muslim" or "look at his hat, Bin laden"{trying to insult a muslim but Im a Sikh rolleyes.gif }

People in the U.S get their left and their right mixed up so Im not suprized they get Sikhs and muslims mixed up.

NO doubt the UK is...

Why?

1) Because the Sikh youth are always so welcoming

2) Theres ALWAYS some sort of kirtan prog / youth prog going on

3) Theres more G'ware around here (one in every corner)!!!

4) Ummm... Just becuase it is!

There is good and bad people everywhere, its up the individual to find the best!

    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
    • Good way of putting it, bro. One of the ongoing themes of Gurbani is the fake saint. Whether it's fake babas in Punjab or English-speaking personalities in the West, it's an continuing problem of religion through the centuries (and it's not exclusive to us by any means, this applies to all human societies).
