Sat Sri Akal:

There is one Rehat...the Rehat Maryada...just people think they know more than the Panth (yes, the Panth, not the SGPC!!!!).

You think you could do better...please, go ahead, read all of the Rehats, compile your own and then submit it for approval.

Don't go and quote "shotrcomings" of the current Rehat. If you gots a problem with it, take it up with the Akal Thakat.

This is a serious request...

Forgive the harsh words...

Without the Code of Conduct, One can not be referred to as a 'Sikh'.

Without the Code of Conduct, One will suffer in the Lord's Court.

(RahitNama Bhai Desa Singh Ji)

SIKH CODE OF CONDUCT

In Sikhism, the word "Rahit" connotes to the precepts for moral and spiritual life. The Sikh Rahit includes spiritual and ethical instructions covering all spheres vital to pious living. The sacred contents of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, regardless of their authorship, are themselves the chief and primary Hukam-Namahs for the Khalsa. Every Sikh is obliged to follow and practice them to the best of his or her abilities. Other sources of the Khalsa Code of Conduct are Sikh scriptures such as the Dasam Granth (Sahib), containing the Banni of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Vaars of Bhai Gurdaas Ji, and the writings of Bhai Nand (Lal) Singh Ji.

Upon the creation of the Khalsa Panth, Guru Gobind Singh Ji instructed some of his prominent disciples not only to record how the Khalsa should live, but also how he should not live (do's and don'ts). Some of those scholars included : Bhai Daya Singh (one the Panj Piyaray), Bhai Desa Singh, Bhai Chaupa Singh, and Bhai Nand Singh Ji.

It is important to remember that just as no one has the authority to alter the contents of the above scriptures, for the same reason no individual or organization has the authority to modify the Sikh Rahit. There is only one Rahit Maryada for

the Khalsa Panth, it does not belong to any particular Jatha or entity, yet as Sikhs we are all obliged to follow it.

Attempts have been made since the early part of the 20th century to document some of the minimum, day-to-day aspects of the Rahit, it is appropriately titled : "SIKH REHIT MARYADA", and is also known as "Sri Akal Takht Sahib di Maryada."

However, various "new" maryadas have come to evolve under the propoganda of the so-called "Sant-Smaaj", various deras, taksals, and other semperdais. Much of them are based on the very Vedic, Bramanic rituals that Guru Sahib warned us against. Therefore, they hold no value in Panthic circles, and easily fail tests of Gurmat-based logic and reasoning.

The information provided on this page is only a brief introduction to the Khalsa Rahit. Those who yearn to know and follow the TRUTH, should "study" the beloved and mystic contents of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and related scriptures.

He alone is a Sikh, a friend, a relative and a sibling, who follows the Way of the Guru's Will.

One who follows according to his own will, O Siblings of Destiny, suffers displeasure of separation from the Lord.

I was under the impression that the quote Rehat Pyaari Mujko Sikh Pyaara Nai was said by Bhai Desa Singh Ji..

NOT by Guru Sahib.

If I'm wrong CORRECT me!

Waheguroo ji ka Khalsa Waheguroo ji ki Fateh !!

Well here I doubt coz most of puratan singhs I have met believe that it was said by Guru Gobind Singh ji and noted down by Bhai Desa Singh ji... but i may be wrong but this is what i heard from puratan singhs...

And yes for gursikhs every tuk in Guru Granth Sahib ji is a HUKAM and hence rehat. But it comes with HIS kirpa and continous commitment that stage is achieved but yea we have to try to follow as much we can from guru granth sahib ji coz it is our rehat :)

Waheguroo ji ka Khalsa Waheguroo ji ki Fateh !!

i wont say whether i think there should be one rehat or not.. even in guru gobind singhs time there were missles each with different rehats..

regarding the sgpc rehat maryada.. it was NEVER endorsed by akal takht and has yet to be endorsed by it.. if it was then taksal and nihangs would be OUTRAGED, thus it has never been endorsed and in fact used to say "Draft" on it up until the 50s i think...

as the current maryada has always been a draft and has never been finalized.. it was assumed that it would be finalized in a sarbat khalsa.. but 10 years or so later after the last meeting sgpc just started making random changes on their own unilaterally and it was never panthicly resolved.

Sat Sri Akal:

Endorsement is shown by the Akal Thakat using the Rehat Maryada as the rules. Whenever a Sikh violates the Rehat Maryada, the law quoted is the Rehat Maryada. If the Akal Thakat had their own set of rules, we would have heard about them by now.

With all due respect MKhalsa (a LOT of respect Singh Sahib... ), what changes are you referring to. I know that the change that most often is brought up is that of Jathedar Musafar changing the Rehat Maryada to making Dastaars for women optional, but, (unfortunately), no evidence exists to back this up. And no claims of other things being changed have been made apparent (got a copy of the origional Rehat Maryada without the alterations? :T: ).

If you would be so kind to list the alterations made and some evidence behind it, I would be most appreciative.

Last point is personal belief...ONE Panth, ONE Rehat. The Misls were not some golden period in Sikh history to be talked of as the ideal...many practices deemed Brahmanical (havans, pundits, etc) were prevalent during the time. People did a lot of things back in the day that was contrary to Sikhism (Harimandir Sahib had Hindu idols in it up until the early 1900s...placed there by Mahants refusing to give the Harimandir Sahib back to the Sikhs and prolaiming it their own personal property).

Lastly, I leave you with the cove

r letter of the Rehat Committee which instructs the SGPC to print the document (nowehere in it does the SGPC get the authority to alter it...but if it was done, I would not be shocked...just need evidence):

(Oh yeah...it's LONG!!!...)

I happen to have seen a copy of rehat maryada of 1912 published under the name of AKAL TAKHT and not SGPC. This maryada talked about sarbloh bibek maryada.. and I didnt get a chance to do more details but obviously that was taken out for who knows why.

SGPC has altered it, i dont know what evidence you want about giani gurmukh singh musafir.. maybe ask someone old? read bhai randhir singhs books?
