Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

Veer ji, I think you are taking the words too literally.

Why question if an amritdhari Sikh should wear a kirpan, when Guru Jee has himself stated, (as well as being in the Reht Maryada) that EVERY Amritdhari Gursikh MUST wear a Kirpan as well as the Kara, Kashera, Kanga and Kesh.

On the issue of non-amritdhari's wearing a kirpan (as well as the other kakaars), I feel that if a Sehjdhari (someone who keeps their kesh, does nitnem and reads the other banis, keeps their Reht, and is looking to take Amrit in the near future), wears a Kirpan then that is okay.

Anyone who is a "casual" Sikh ie wears a dastaar and keeps their kesh, should not wear the kirpan. They just dont have the right.

Having said that, I have known a lot of Gursikhs, who before they were amritdhari, did not used to wear a Kirpan. Even though they were "pakay" in their reht, nitnemey etc. They used to say they were not ready for it. Only after they had taken Amrit.
