Why only celebrate the b'days of Guru Nanak Dev jee and Guru Gobind singh jeee.. What about other 8 gurus?? Why i never heard anything about their b'days ?? Every guru jee participation toward panth was equal and shouldn't we remember them equally?? I know there is one jot.. but still i think we should thanks them, remember them, cherish them equally !!

Just some thought going thru my head..

Waheguroo...

I've always wondered why this is...I think the unfortunate truth is we don't know our own history and over the transformation of the Diaspora, the European/American and scholarly influence it has distorted so much richness. For example, if you go to most 9/10 year old Sikh children they will know many facts about Guru Nanak Dev Jeeio and Gurdev Pita, but perhaps not even know the names of our other Guru Jees. We are not educated and don't educate our younger generation..it truly is in our hands!

In my opinion I think each person can make progress..the Nanakshai Panthic Calendar is available to all of us, on those days read a special shabad (for that Purab), learn more about that day/Guru Jee..share it with sangat, with children, and cherish that day.

Vickey Singh, I usually send emails out on these days :( with a shabad or poem, or some sakhi or historical piece of information to some of my dear ones..I think as sangat ALL OF US should post for that day :) Plus with all your contacts, you could always take snippets from the forum and email it to others..

To progress...

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

There is no history like Sikh history. In some religions they mourn the martyrdom of their religious figures. Thank WAHEGURU that Sikhs dont have to mourn! otherwise we have so many shaheeds, every single day we would have to mourn. But our SatGuru is so great! He told us that martyrdom is a priviledge of the chosen few, and so we CELEBRATE and not mourn the days when Sikhs gave shaheedi! SIKHI is all about CELEBRATION! no place for mourning! we CELEBRATE shaheedi diwas! we CELEBRATE prakash utsav! we do kirtan on the days of any of the Guru Sahibaans' jotti jot diwas! we dont beat ourselves and wail and weep and cry like others! and yes, we should CELEBRATE and/or do kirtan on the occassions of the prakash utsav, gurgaddi diwas, jotti jot diwas and/or shaheedi diwas of all Gurus!

This is true in case of gurudwara sahibs but local sangat do celebrate any gurupurab... not only b'days but like bandi choor divas of guru hargobind sahib ji, parkaash of dhan shri guru granth sahib ji or any other gurupurab we come to know... yeah we do miss sometimes coz we aren't aware of any particular gurupurab...

Some people have the belief that Guru Nank Dev Ji's b-day should be celebrated only, because all of the Gurus are considered Nanaks. I don't agree with this. I think that all of the Gurus contributed to making what Sikhi is today. We should celebrate all of them.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
