its cos during the 70's and 80's, sikhs were gettin battered left right and centre, directyl and indirectly... and all these attacks were being done on sikhs, mentally aswell as physically.. most of these were done by the indian government.. and when people try stand up for their faith, they were told bascailly to shut up n sit down, or they took shaheedi, i.e. vaisakhi 1978,..

but sant ji woke the sikh nation up, they got up and said woooh, sikho, why are we all losin faith in Guru ji, init.. and they taught a lot of gurbani, basically, the way i see it, they were like a role model, and a proper Sant Sipahi, who helped the sikhs against opressors.. and most of all, brought many sikhs, like our parents into Sikhi, buy teaching our parents that Guru Granth Sahib ji is the true guru , and basically made people realise how powerful Guru Bani actually is..

thats my opinions...

sorry if iv offended anyone...

Sat Sri Akal:

Imagine if you will:

You are the member of a VERY patriotic people, the Sikhs. Your forefathers (and foremothers) sacrificed their everything to defend the nation and the people against onslaughts from the Mughals then the British. Generations are wiped out and families are erased from the world.

Suddenly, you look around you and what do you see? Your own government, the one that you fought to put into power, has not only supported and encouraged, but directed the Nirankaris to target Sikhism. They are escorted away from their place of crime and defended by the government while Sikhs who are peacefully demonstrating are killed, wounded and arrested.

Then you see that your simple request in the name of the Anandpur Resolution which demands things that every state has been granted without thought be unfulfilled...you know, things like permission to use your own water and to broadcast Keertan from Darbar Sahib.

Then you see that the media is suddenly turned against Sikhism. Every newspaper over ther recent years turns on Sikhism and uses every means to insult the religion in the public eye. They stop at no lengths to downplay, insult, and marginalize Sikhism.

You see that Sikhs are being arrested and tortured for no reason other than they are Sikhs.

In this environment, Sant Jarnail Singh sopke out and said to the Sikhs you are being made slaves and your own government is doing it. As his message grew more popular (you know, such extremeist things such as telling people to give up drugs and alcohol and to become Guru Kae Sikhs), the government uses this as an excuse to attack the Harimandir Sahib. Rather than negotiating and warning anyone in the Darbar Sahib, they open fire. Sant Ji lives up to the principles of Sikhism and defends the dignity of Sikhism.

Say you are a simple ignorant Sikh. Suddenly, you wake up to the horror that the Darbar Sahib has been attacked. The Akal Thakat is nothing but a shell with death contained in it. Thousands of bodies are dripping blood into the Sarovar Sahib and the White Parikarma is painted red. The greatest of sacrilege, the destruction of Sikh history and Gurbani, even a bullet in the Guru Granth Sahib are found. You awaken to the stark reality that that man in the Harimandir Sahib with guns was speaking the truth. Months later, the government unleashes the November 84 genocide. You begin to see the truth in the Sant's words. What happened to all the years of loyal service Sikhs gave to India...the blood that they shed at every battlefield? What about the years spent in British jails? What about the women that they liberated from Abdali's harem? What about the religion that the Ninth Guru saved? Those that literally saved a country from subjugation are suddenly themselves the target of those whose forefathers the Sikhs saved.

Why is he a hero? Those who awaken the Panth out of their dreamy sleep to the stark reality of life...what title do they deserve?
