  1. Hi, Before I start, I thought I'd say I'm from a Sikh background and basically my family don't have much knowledge of Sikhism, I don't care that they don't know much but one thing that worries me is that they don't worship God alone but sometimes think that other people are gods also and this is a big sin I don't want my family to be punished (for their blind deeds they will be blindly punished I think scripture says) as this is against the basic truth that most religions preach (Ek Onkar- there is only one God)! I'll give you examples my sister use to have Hindu idols in her bedroom (though she does not have them anymore as I said its against Sikhism as I showed her verses from scripture), even though she took them out of her room (this was years ago), I don't think she fully understands as I think she just wanted to get me to shut up as I was young at the time and had the energy to try and explain stuff (though I cant explain this stuff anymore as I am mentally drained every day and I struggle to explain stuff- though it is a lot easier to explain online as I can write stuff and rearrange it after so it makes more sense), some of family members even said "Jai Mata Di" when one of the babies sneezed (though I have only heard them say this recently). My family still go to Mandirs where idols are worshipped when invited, once they were invited to the 'marriage' of the Hindu gods (the couple who paid for this 'wedding' did this ceremony as they did not have any children of their own) but they don't understand we should only worship God. One of my family members who is baptised (done Amrit shak) in India she even went to do arti of an idol of a baba that our family believe in (even though this baba was alive at the time- though he's died now)! His Temple even had an ek onkar symbol on one side and an om symbol to the other side with an idol of Shiva I think on top of the entrance (I have a bad memory- but I can remember this place since going there on holiday when I was still at school- as this confused me like mad!) Some of my family members though the Gurus were 10 gods, when infact Guru Nanak worshipped God alone and referred to himself as a servant of God, if I remember correctly, so if my family claim to follow his religion then why don't they worship God alone! So I decided to send an email to either 2 or 3 Sikh channels a few weeks ago asking them to do a programme on this subject, and I have not received any responses from any of them! As my family tend to watch Sikh programmes on the Sikh religious channels quite often, as this is the only way they will be able to understand as if I said anything I will be dismissed as an <banned word filter activated> who knows nothing and I don't have the energy to debate, plus I don't want to upset anyone! What am I supposed to do! Please help! Life is hard enough without having to worry about punishment from God! Sorry for long post.
  2. Benti - Stop showing respect to Gurus' photos This is a highly anti gurmat act and cant be passed off as love or shardha as we are disobeying and therefore disrespecting jugo jug atal gurbani - ਪਾਥਰੁ ਲੇ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥ paathar lay poojeh mugaDh gavaar. The ignorant fools pick up stones and worship them. ohi jaa aap dubay tum kahaa taranhaar. ||2|| But when those stones themselves sink, who will carry you across? ||2|| Some may argue that these panktis are against idol worship (made of stone) - but we need to understand guru's shabad in spirit not in letter - this applies to anything that is symbolic of god - in case of pictures - an idol made of ink and paper instead of clay. If gurus wanted to have portraits made of themselves , they could have done that through artists - but they categorically ordained against it - as they knew that instead of following the message , people will start bowing to the pictures (which is unfortunately what the sikh panth of today is copiously doing) For those who don't know - these pictures are not even correct depictions of gurus - they are in fact all imagination of one man - Sobha Singh , in fact no one knows what gurus looked like and thats not a problem since in gurmat we are advised to focus on immortal shabad and not on mortal personalities. So remove guru's pictures from your homes and instead hang tuks from guru granth sahib such as "Fareeda bure ka kar bhala, gussa man na handaye" , "Haq paraya nanaka us sooar us gai " , "mithat neevi nanaka , gun changiyaiya tat" - which will positively influence our day to day behaviour and make us better humans and gursikhs. Finally exercise your own wisdom rather than blindly following others - ਦੇਖਾ ਦੇਖੀ ਸਭ ਕਰੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ They follow others, but the self-willed manmukhs do not understand. Bhul chook maaf ! WJKK WJKF
  3. In the first photo you can see the same darbar without the people dancing. The two photos look as if they were taken on the same day. The first photo is a close up of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji platform. Do you see how the Nanaksar Jatha have carefully placed one of their Sant's photo right in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji parkash. Not are you only bowing to Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, but also to their Sant. Not to long ago in a different location there was a video released of sangat dancing before Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and the Sikh sangat was outraged by the display. Here is the link to this earlier occurrence Now the Nanaksar jatha has been caught on camera doing the exact same thing before the parkahs of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. The next two photos are of a room made especially for photo worship. The first photo is of the whole room and the next photo shows how the Nanaksar group are cutting a cake before the photo as if the photo is a living thing and it will take their offering of cake. I am writing this here for the sangat awareness, to discuss and provide a solution to these wrong actions taking place in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. I hope this thread does not get closed because some of their followers cannot see the truth of their own sangat.
  4. Why do you believe Snatam Kaur of 3HO, NOW has to make a video of trying to convince everyone that she is a Sikh? Seems pointless right!!! Shouldn't her actions speak for whether she is a Sikh or not?
  5. Just for Share, http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Dasam_Granth_Sahib_on_Idol_Worship I was pasting text here but i get text as codes: ਕਾਹੂ ਲੈ ਪਾਹਨ ਪੂਜ ਧਰਯੋ ਸਿਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਲੈ ਲਿੰਗ ਗਰੇ ਲਟਕਾਇਓ ॥ Someone worshipped stone and placed it on his head. Someone hung the phallus (lingam) from his neck. Someone visualized God in the South and someone bowed his head towards the West. Some fool worships the idols and someone goes to worship the dead. The whole world is entangled in false rituals and has not known the secret of Lord-God 10.30. (Akaal Ustat, Dasam Granth Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh)
