  1. Baba Ji used to recite the prayer called Chandi di Vaar daily, as part of his Nitnem This is a prayer composed by the tenth Guru, describing a battle between demons and the Goddess called Chandi. It is usually recited by Sikhs during war. Many a time, a question would arise in his mind as to, how many times and at what time one should recite the prayer of Chandi di Vaar? Baba Ji asked many Saints and sadhus regarding this question, but could not get a satisfactory answer. One evening, at his room in the fields, after reciting the evening prayer of Rehras, Baba Ji went on to recite the prayer of Chandi di Vaar. After completing this prayer, he prepared to retire by saying his last prayer of Sohila. It was a moonlit night and the doors of the room in which he was sitting, were open. As he had just lain down, he noticed two men approaching at a short distance. Baba Ji thought to himself, that if these pedestrians were just travellers, he would offer them food and shelter for the night and if they were robbers, then he would challenge them in combat. No sooner had this thought entered his mind, than miraculously one of the Singh’s came beside him and grabbed his feet. The other one seized Baba Ji’s head and pinned him down onto the bed. Baba Ji used to tell us, “I was unable to move from the bed. A thought entered my mind that these two, who have moved faster than the speed of light in order to grasp me are neither robbers nor travellers. These two must be Shaheed Singhs (the immortal souls of Sikh martyrs). I began to recite the Mool mantar I had only uttered the Mool mantar twice when the Singh who held my head down, let go, followed by the second Singh who was holding my feet.” Baba Ji got up and the Shaheed Singh explained, “We did not come here to fight with or seize you, but to answer your question, regarding the correct time to recite the prayer of Chandi di Vaar. As you thought about offering us a fight, we came and immediately seized you, as we did.” The Shaheed Singh continued, “If you start reciting the prayer of Chandi di Vaar after sunset then, one must keep reciting it 64 continuously through the night until dawn. Two or more Singhs may take turns to recite this prayer through the night, it is all right to do so. One must sit upon a clean mat or bed, bathing before reciting the prayer. An oil lamp lit with clarified butter should be kept alight throughout the night. During the day, one can recite Chandi di Vaar as many times as one wants. There is no specific practice to reciting the prayer except that one reads the prayer with devotion and understanding.” After explaining these instructions, the Singh’s disappeared through the doors towards the direction they came from.
  2. Does anyone have absolutely anything on all the stories and lessons and morals that maharaj tells us that comes from the dhuni in which a vaar should be sung? there is "Sikandar Biraham ki // ki dhuni" amongst many others. i have searched long and hard, far and wide! i cant find these stories in my research. and there is a deficiency. so, the way i was told vaar and dhuni works is there used to be well known stories everywhere in the pinds and towns and shaeers that all used to talk abut and pass down (in an ideal world). and this is just like the raja is described in tunde asraja. so when maharaj came and gave us bani, the morals of these stories were incorporated in maharaj bani. so, the lesson learnt from each story-dhuni, should be held in heart and then understanding and beauty will follow. obviously maharaj bani is second to none etc. so please does anyone know of the full stories? or where they may be from? because all my research trails have dried up. many thanks gurfateh p.s. ive oredy done a search. didnt come up with anything much. fateh!
  3. Waheguru Wanted to bring this to the Sangats attention after the orgianal Chamkaur Di Garhi was demolished by the SGPC. Now they plan to reconstructe it. ‘Reconstruction of Chamkaur Di Garhi will be completed within one year’ Rupnagar, Punjab: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar on Tuesday said the reconstruction of Chamkaur di Garhi, the site related to Guru Gobind Singh and the battle between Sikhs and Mughal forces in 1704 in Chamkaur Sahib, would be completed within one year to give it a touch of originality. It may be mentioned that Gur u Gobind Singh’s two elder brothers Sahibzadas Ajit Singh and Jujhar Singh and other sikhs had attained martyrdom during the battle. Guru Gobind Singh had sent his Sahibzadas and 40 Sikhs from the ‘Katchi’ Garhi to fight the Mughal forces. The historic Chamkaur Di Garhi was demolished many years back and a gurdwara was built at that place by the SGPC. Now, the SGPC has decided to reconstruct the Garhi. While talking to media persons at Gurdwara Bhatta Sahib near Rupnagar, Makkar said the reconstruction work would be done through Kar Seva. Later on, Makkar also laid the foundation stone of the reconstruction work of the Garhi at Chankaur Sahib. In reply to a question about the failure of the SGPC to conserve the historic Qila of Nihang Khan, relating to Guru Gobind Singh at Kotla Nihang village near Rupnagar, Makkar said the committee formed by him in this regard was yet to give its report. He said the SGPC was ready to purchase the site. However, the owners of the site were demanding a hefty price. Later, Makkar also addressed a religious conference held on the occasion of Shaheedi Jor Mela at Gurdwara Bhatta Sahib. He also inaugurated the new Serai built at Gurdwara Sahib. Takhat Sri Kesg arh Sahib Jathedar Giani Mal Singh, Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra, Rupnagar MLA Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, SAD vice-president Kiranbir Singh Kang, SGPC members Karnail Singh Panjoli, Amarjit Singh Chawla and Paramjit Singh Lakhewal also addressed the conference. Meanwhile, thousands of devotees paid their obeisance at Gurdwara Bhatta Sahib on the second day of the Shaheedi Jor Mela. Gatka and turban tying competitions were also organised on the occasion. Besides this district youth clubs coordination committee also organised a blood donation camp on the occasion. http://sikhsangat.org/2013/reconstruction-of-chamkaur-di-garhi-will-be-completed-within-one-year/
