  4. ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਿਹ The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) will host a two-day festival commemorating the 232nd anniversary of the establishment of Khalsa Panth rule, scheduled for March 21 and 22. DSGMC president Manjit Singh said the festival is aimed at highlighting the "golden historic moment" of the Khalsa Panth when Sikhs ruled the country from New Delhi. The event marks the time when Sikh warrior Sardar Baghel Singh hoisted the Kesri Nishan Sahib of the Khalsa Panth at the Red Fort on March 11, 1783, after defeating then Mughal emperor Shah Alam and crowning Jassa Singh Ahluwalia as the new emperor in the Diwan-e-Aam. Manjit Singh said that the event will be organised at a mega level to highlight this "historic event", which does not find significant mention in modern Indian history. "This is second time that the Delhi Fateh Divas is being organised by DSGMC, in which around one lakh people of various religions will take part and efforts are being made to make it an annual event," Manjit Singh said. "Five head priests will lead the Jarnaili march victory processions from ancient Hanuman Mandir to Red Fort on March 22," Manjit Singh said, adding that Sikh organisations from across the globe will be represented in the event. Kirtan darbar will be organised on first day of Fateh Diwas and on the second day Gataka, martial arts of the Sikhs will be performed.
  5. Need Help Delhi

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh Dear Sangat, is there anyone in Delhi who can please help me, I need some moral and translation support. I'm not from a sikh family. Following a spiritual calling I became a sikh and I've faced extreme harassment and bullying from "family" members. I currently have no choice but to put up with having to reside in their home as I'm transitioning between careers and have nowhere else to go. Also I'm a native English speaker and do my best to speak hindi/punjabi, but quite honestly my broken punjabi leads me to being treated either suspiciously or condescendingly at any gurdwara. Mostly people I come across are rich stuck up "Sardars" who couldn't give a bit about anything holy, or are simply too culturally backwards to want to offer any assistance. I'm at my wits end. I hardly know anyone in this city to begin with. The handful of people I did know have turned their back on me after I became a sikh. So i need someone to help be my translator and offer me some moral support. I'm also in need of genuine sikh friends in Delhi. If you can help please reply. I will send to a pm. Thanks Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh

  11. Can anyone, with a blog/website/both related to Khalistan, explain something to me? A few years ago I heard about the case of a man whose family was detained at the Indian airport because he was involved in some pro-Khalistan group overseas. To my brothers who are involved in such groups what happens when you go to India or need police clearance from there? Do they detain you on the basis of the organisations you support, webpages you make and comments you put on fb? Is it entirely random or they do it to people who illustrate an intent? Can we say there is a degree of discrimination involved or is it the effects of an inept bureaucracy?

  15. The Indian and Canadian PM's are not going to Sri Lanka for the Commonwealth Summit in support of Tamil human rights. The British and Australian PM's have asked for an independent enquiry into the killings. Can the Sikhs learn from the Tamils and get support now that human rights are of interest to countries? Manmohan Singh has no concern for the Sikhs but takes major action for the Tamils. http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/editorials/summit-fever-the-commonwealth-should-not-be-conferring-legitimacy-on-a-sri-lankan-regime-with-blood-on-its-hands-8933415.html Summit fever: The Commonwealth should not be conferring legitimacy on a Sri Lankan regime with blood on its hands The question marks over Sri Lankas human rights record are not confined to the war-torn past The Indian Prime Ministers last-minute decision not to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Colombo this weekend is largely due to domestic politics. With an election next year, Manmohan Singh does not want to upset Indias 72 million Tamils, many of whom are highly sensitive about the treatment of their ethnic cousins in Sri Lankas bloody civil war. Mr Singhs narrow political motivations do not detract from the issue itself, however. Indeed, he is now the second leader to boycott the summit. Canadas Stephen Harper is so incensed at the Colombo governments continued refusal to investigate alleged war crimes committed during the conflict that he is not only not attending himself, his government is also reviewing its financial contributions to the Commonwealth. There are very real and painful questions to be answered about the civil war. According to UN estimates, as many as 40,000 civilians may have died in the final months of the conflict, in 2009, as the government of Mahinda Rajapaksa finally quashed the 26-year Tamil insurgency. A harrowing Channel 4 documentary No Fire Zone: The Killing Fields of Sri Lanka screened earlier this month, was just the latest evidence of alleged war crimes. The question marks over Sri Lankas human rights record are not confined to the war-torn past. Disturbing reports of repression and abuse have continued to emerge ever since. Harassment, intimidation and unexplained disappearances among political opponents, journalists, activists and even members of the judiciary are alarmingly frequent. Police torture is also rampant, says Amnesty International, with 86 formal complaints in the first three months of this year alone, and at least five deaths in custody in 2012. Nor are such issues hidden from world attention. No less a figure than Archbishop Desmond Tutu has spoken several times about the need for an official investigation into alleged atrocities committed during the war. And in August this year, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights ended a seven-day visit to the island with an outspoken warning. The war may have ended, Navi Pillay concluded, but in the meantime democracy has been undermined and the rule of law eroded. Against such a background, the choice of Colombo as the venue for the Heads of Government meeting conferring an unearned legitimacy on Mr Rajapaksas government was grossly ill-judged. That David Cameron agreed to attend is also regrettable. The claims of human rights abuses, past and present, are too serious to be waved aside; Britain should have joined Canada in taking a principled stand. But with the summit going ahead, and our Prime Minister to be there, the best must be made of it. Following the Channel 4 footage, Mr Cameron has promised to tell the President that if Sri Lanka does not launch an independent investigation into alleged war crimes then the international community will. That is not enough. What of the worsening repression? If even half the allegations against Sri Lanka are true, it is a stain on the conscience of the Commonwealth. The Colombo meeting must be used to impress upon Mr Rajapaksa that his governments conduct is not acceptable.
  16. Tensions Rise as Multiple Attacks Launched Against Sikhs Across IndiaBy: Sikh24 Editors GUJARAT, India (October 8, 2013)News reports of Sikhs being attacked in Gujarat and Delhi have created shockwaves in the Sikh community living worldwide. As per media reports, a Sikh family living in Loria village of Bhuj district of Gujarat was attacked by a mob yesterday. Four male members of the Sikh family were left critically injured and were admitted to a local district hospital. In a statement, one of the injured, Amandeep Singh said that at least 30 armed men had attacked him and his family members who were sowing crops during the day. According to him, several shots were even fired in the air. Along with Amandeep Singh, the brutal attack also injured Angrej Singh, Jaswinder Singh and Harpreet Singh. All four were admitted under intensive care. Amandeep Singh alleged that he doesnt know what may have instigated the mobs. He alleged that the attackers wanted them to leave the farms and return to Punjab. Amandeep Singhs family has been living in Gujarat for over five decades and they were allotted the farming land back in 1960. It should be noted that the plight of Sikh farmers came to light recently when they blamed the local Government for refusing to allow them to purchase land. In another incident, a Sikh family in the Rohini area, Sector 3, Delhi, was attacked by a group of 7-8 young men in what seems to be a well-planned attack. The attackers brutally injured an elderly Sikh lady causing jaw injuries. They used a sharp blade to slit her wrist, but luckily she has survived the attack. Her husband was also brutally injured. The elderly Sikh man was held from his beard and his turban was removed. The attackers allegedly kicked him and his turban. They used racial slurs to abuse the elderly Sikh husband and wife. The attackers alleged that they are going to repeat 1984 once again as the Sikhs have forgotten their past carnage in the City. The main attacker, who was named Mukesh, is said to have good relations with the local police SHO and a local judge or Rohini court. He is said to have carried out similar attacks on Sikhs and others in the same neighborhood. Due to his political influence, no case has yet been registered against him. http://www.sikh24.com/2013/10/tensions-rise-as-multiple-attacks-launched-against-sikhs-across-india/#.UlSh4WS9Kc0

  19. The Damdami Taksal chief, Harnam Singh Dhumma, accompanied by former Akal Takht chief Jathedar Jasbir Singh Rode, today called upon the Sikh voters in the Capital to save the ‘Panth’ (community) and vote for the Parkash Singh Badal- Shiromani Akali Dal in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) poll on January 27. Dhumma and Rode, who was Akal Takht chief during Operation Black Thunder-II in 1988, both shared the dais with Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal here this evening. Dhumma, who leads the Sant Samaj, said: “The SAD symbolises the Panth and you must ensure its victory in the elections. Paramjit Singh Sarna opposes the Akal Takht edicts. Hence, he does not deserve to win.” Dhumma’s speech to the 800-strong crowd at the Delhi residence of SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal was received with cries of ‘Bole So Nihal. Rode, a nephew of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala, was even more forceful in his speech. “You must ensure that the reins of the DSGMC are handed back to the Panth. And we will ensure your welfare,” he said. Later Sukhbir Badal, when asked to clarify if this meant that his party was backed by the Panth in its fight against Sarna, he said: “This if a fight of the community against these people (the Sarna brothers)”. Sukhbir, who landed in Delhi this evening, told his supporters: “Sarna is being used to weaken the community. But nobody, from Sonia (Gandhi) to Sajjan Kumar to (Jagdish) Tytler, can stop the victory of the Panth”. Sukhbir’s team that consists of leaders like Ludhiana legislator Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and old warhorses Balwant Singh Ramoowalia and Tarlochan Singh, are working behind the scenes, meeting people one on one. They have been able to build so much pressure that Sarna’s main candidate against Manjit Singh GK, Badal’s presidential nominee, has withdrawn from the contest. He was seen at today’s congregation, sharing the stage with Dhumma and Rode.
  20. http://in.news.yahoo.com/delhi-rape--lawyer-says-hang-victim-s-friend--071313247.html Yahoo! India News – Thu 17 Jan, 2013 NEW DELHI: The five persons accused of gang-raping and killing of a 23-year-old Delhi girl in a moving bus have got lawyers to defend them. All the accused also assaulted her 28-year-old male friend. Both were thrown out of the bus after around 40 minutes, battered, naked, bleeding and shivering. The lady's friend will be the main witness in the case. Meanwhile, a lawyer who volunteered to defend one of the six accused, Mukesh, brother of the main accused Ram Singh, said the victim and her friend were responsible for the assault. Manohar Lal Sharma, a 56-year-old Supreme Court advocate, said the victim's friend was responsible for the attack as the couple should not have ventured out on the streets at night. He further went on to say that he never heard of a respectable woman being raped in the country. Speaking to The Independent, Manohar said: 'I have not seen a single incident or example of rape with a respected lady. Even an underworld don would not like to touch a girl with respect.' Blaming the victim's friend, Manohar told The New York Times: 'This all happened because of the lust of the boy. This is the boy who should be hanged. He's responsible for everything. He should be punished.' In an interview with Bloomberg, Manohar was quoted saying that he was 'confident that the men will be proved innocent because there are a number of problems with the police investigation.' "We will plead not guilty. We want this to go to trial," Manohar told Reuters. "We are only hearing what the police are saying. This is manipulated evidence. It's all on the basis of hearsay and presumption." Manohar said the police had rushed through the investigation against the five men even when they were not ready with the key detail of the age of the sixth member of the group, who lured the woman and a male friend into the bus and, according to leaked accounts, was the most brutal in the attack. "When you have not even established the age of this person, how can you go to court bringing the charges against the others, and say your investigations are complete," Sharma said. "We all know how police investigations are carried out in India." Manohar also accused that Mukesh was being brutality tortured in police custody. Sharma said police had sexually assaulted his client with a stick and humiliated him. "They urinated in his mouth, they did all kinds of things to him. He is facing the same torture now from the jail inmates," he said. Lawyer VK Anand is representing the main accused Ram Singh, ML Sharma is defending Mukesh, AP Singh is representing Akshay alias Thakur and Vinay Sharma, while the fifth accused Pawan Gupta will be represented by counsel Vivek Sharma. The sixth accused is a juvenile and his case is being heard by a Juvenile Justice Board. The police have charged the five under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (2)(g) (gang-rape), 377 (unnatural offences), 395 (dacoity), 396 (murder in dacoity), 365 (kidnapping or abduction with intent to secretly or wrongfully confine a person), 394 (hurting in dacoity), 201 (destruction of evidence), 120B (conspiracy), 34 (common intention), 412 (dishonestly receiving stolen property), and 397 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. What on earth is wrong with people!!!?! It's a complete hell on earth. I feel so sorry for the victim's friend for all that he's being put through now!
  21. India is a sexually repressed place, that will change with time; in the mean-while this famous saying: Gun Control is hitting where you aim or The morality behind gun control is john doe being tied to a fence post vs john doe explaining how his attackers got those holes in them. Not too long of a post, crime is reduced where there is concealed carry. US people would know that, anyone going against weapons is a wussy and frankly not a sikh. That's really the only solution while other things work themselves out, or we work them out. Otherwise, you're saying that because you don't 'like' or are 'scared' of weapons for your 'feeling of safety' 100,000's of people should be rape, killed, and etc.
  22. http://www.sikhchic.com/article-detail.php?cat=33&id=3956 Straight Talk: An Open Letter to The Citizens of New Delhi, IndiaT. SHER SINGH My heart bleeds over the brutalities suffered by Jyoti Pandey and her friend, and the suffering that their families are going through. I also feel the pain of the women in your city and of their families: the terror of having to negotiate the world every time you step out of your home to go to work or school, to step out in your neighbourhood, or to move from one to another to shop or visit or play or merely enjoy the amenities of life in a city. Your leaders, both political and religious, have already played their cards. They’re not about to let you change anything around you, because if they did, they’d be the first ones to be locked behind bars. Your media has no interest in helping you change things for the better, because they represent corporate interests first and foremost. And those interests are now commingled with the interests of the political and religious hierarchy. Maintaining the status quo is seen to be best for them, even though it may not be for you. But, unfortunately, you have an even bigger elephant in the room. Nineteen Eighty-Four. Yes, yes, I know. You want us Sikhs to move on and stop harping on 1984. Well, we have moved on. We are forever in chardi kala -- it’s in our DNA. We have forgiven, though not forgotten. We’ll pursue the culprits as long as they are alive, but we will never be their victims. Don’t forget, for better or worse, your country is being led by a Sardar who has dragged you all, kicking and screaming, into the 20th century. [No, this is not a typo … you have another century to go before you can lay claim to the 21st, I’m afraid.] As I was saying, we’ve gotten over it. But you haven’t. You never will. 1984. You can deny it, ignore it, pretend it never happened, whatever … but it will follow you wherever you go. It will haunt you in your sleep. It will be your nightmare day and night. And it will sit on your head, monkey-like, on the heads of your children, and the children of your children … Why? Given the thousands of innocent men, women and children killed in your streets and our homes in 1984 -- in your city alone, without even getting into what happened in the villages, towns, cities, even moving trains, of your land -- and the thousands of women who were raped then, it requires no complicated arithmetic to figure out that a hundred thousand and more of your city were involved -- directly! -- in the rape, murder and mayhem. Remember the mobs, some in hundreds, some in thousands, that roamed the city for three days, unfettered, unchecked? Well, they are all alive, free still, never charged, never tried, never punished, and they live amongst you. They are your fathers, your brothers, your husbands, your sons, your lovers. A hundred thousand of them. One of your own religious leaders said the other day that your men need to have sex every 15 to 20 days, no matter where or how they get it. He must know his flock. That’s why, isn’t it, that a rape occurs every 20 minutes in your land? That’s the official figure! Three every hour, 36 every day, 252 every week, 1080 every month, 12,960 every year … give or take a few. Now, please keep in mind that these figures, being 'official', are but the tip of the iceberg. The terrible tragedy of December 16, 2012 will not change anything. Simply because those who are now raping you have nowhere else to go. You are the true inheritors of 1984. And your inheritance is that your children and the children of your children will hound you. And stalk each other. Because it is the law of nature. As revealed by Krishna, and by Jesus. By Mohammed, Buddha, Moses, Mahavir. And Nanak. As you sow, so shall you reap. That’s the law. And the law applies to individuals and it applies to communities, societies, and nations. In case you think I’m making this up, here are a few reminders. Pakistan was created through murder and mayhem. In the name of religion. Tens of millions of innocents suffered gravely because their leaders had no patience to try peaceful means. Today: their own mullahs murder them. Every day. The country is a pariah of the world. Israel. Walked roughshod over the lives of millions of innocent Palestinians, because it was able to buy the military might it needed to do it. To establish a state in the name of religion. Today: missiles of modern fire and brimstone rain on them at regular intervals with biblical fury. Almost seven decades later, and there’s no peace to be had. Even in sleep. Britain. And Europe. They raped and plundered the world for five centuries, each pretending to spread the word of God, but in reality pillaging the wealth of others and murdering their true owners. Today: they are surprised to see that people of all the lands they brutalized have arrived in their homelands. There are no ifs and buts. Britain’s demographics is changing to make way for a new majority. And it won’t be Anglo-Saxon. The rest of Europe is not far behind. The colonies are knocking on the gates. America. It has rained death on other nations, and has built its wealth on the corpses of countless children wherever they’ve gone to plunder. Today: they simply don’t know how to prevent their own children from murdering them in their own homes. Every day, new barricades have to be raised … to defend against themselves. A nation … at war with itself. There’s a reason why there’s no hope for peace on earth. Because we’ve all committed atrocities, we’ve outdone each other. What you sow is what you reap. So, remember 1984, as you lock yourselves up in your homes in New Delhi and get accustomed to moving around in human convoys. I was at a party the other day. My hosts were Indian. And so were all the other guests. I was the only Sikh-Canadian. At one point, emboldened by liquor and the fact that he saw I was alone in a sea of desis, one of them cleared his throat and, in a raised voice, confronted me: “So, Sher Singh ji,” he said, in feigned politeness, ”where are all the Sikhs and their kirpans now when we need them again to protect our daughters in India? Where were the saviour Sardars when the girl was being raped on a bus in Delhi the other day?” He stood across the room, glowering at me, waiting for my response. The room turned quiet suddenly. They were all waiting for my answer. I stood there, facing him. Seconds ticked by. He stared at me. Others stared at me. I stared at him. Finally, I said: “Where do you think the Sikhs of Delhi have gone, and why do you think they are unable to save your women?” I continued looking at him. Gradually, ever so gradually, his eyelids fell. He looked at the floor. His shoulders slumped. His head sank, as if he was checking the polish on his shoes. Quietly, ever so quietly, he shrugged his shoulders. Didn’t peep a word. Then slowly, ever so slowly, he turned around and staggered towards the bar. In a room of almost 40 people, I swear I have never heard a louder silence than I did that night. January 10, 2013
