We must support this petition and women should get their rights because our Sikh religion is the great and foremost, it doesn't believes in caste system, then why there is a discrimination between men and women. 3. Hi Guys I am a New Zealander who have been living in Delhi for the past 8 years since I married A Punjabi Sikh woman whom I met at the University of Auckland. Her family is composed of my wife our son, her brother, his wife and two sons, and parents and all of us live in the same house. Until 6 years ago, none were very religious and all of them cut their hair and none of them wore turbans. The first transformation came when my Mother-in-law started wearing the 5 k's and doing daily nitnam, She eventually convinced my father-in-law to get baptised and now he wears a turban. .Then shortly after my brother-in-law and his wife and two sons got baptised with all four of them wearing Sikh Saroop.Sensing a shift in the household my wife suggested that I would refrain from cutting my hair and some drinking alcohol so I don't offend the current religous atmosphere in the house. Last year my wife got baptised and our 4 year old son now wears a patka. Instead of resisting I decided to join the entire family for daily Nitnam everyday, Since I stop cutting my hair two years ago and have shoulder length hair long enough to form a bun I desided to take the plunge and wear a dastar for the first time in my life last month. After one month of wearing the dastar everday I got baptised at the Gurdwara SIS Ganj Sahib two days ago.
  4. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh Please could someone help me with some questions. - I have a Christian name. Can I have naam sanskar with amrit sanchar, if so how do I request this? I spoke to a granthi ji at Singh Sabha Gurdwara Southall, who did not understand why I wanted a new name? When pressed he said I should ask the panj pyare before the sanchar and they will decide if i am eligible for a new name. I can't surely be called eg Mathew John Singh? What's the standard procedure here and how do I approach the panj piare? - I have done my best to learn Punjabi. It is good enough for casual conversation but I am scared of not understanding the panj piare during amrit sanchar. Also, as my conversational Punjabi is decent and I am olive skinned, people initially assume that I am Punjabi/Indian which I am not (they soon realise after a longer conversation). So, how do I ask for a translation without offending anyone? If they can't or won't, will I be turned away as the granthi seemed to suggest? Please help.

  22. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh I will be visiting India in either May or June this year, so I wanted to enquire about the amrit sanchar ceremony being held at Harian Velan Gurdwara Sahib. Does it happen on a weekly basis or a monthly basis? Is there any particular day when it's held e.g. Sunday etc? Also, if I could get the contact information of someone living in Harian Velan to enquire about the exact date and time of the ceremnony. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
