  1. VJKK VJKF I am thinking of keeping a saroop of Sri Dasam Granth Ji in my bedroom. I can read Gurmukhi so I can read it. I asked my mom about it and she said yes and she is taking me to DTF (Soho Road) sometime in the holidays (I think they have saroops of Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji anyway). I just wanted to know the maryada of keeping Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji in my house. My family eat meat etc but they only eat it downstairs but my saroop of Sri Dasam Granth Ji will be kept in my bedroom at all times so none of the meat will go near Maharaj. I just wanted to know if this is alright because if it is beadbi of any sort then I won't bring Maharaj into my house. Its better if Maharaj is kept with the satkaar (respect) it deserves. Please reply soon because I need to know as fast as possible. I will put it in a clean place where it is at a higher level than me. Also, if anyone else owns a saroop of Sri Dasam Granth Sahib then please do tell me what the daily routine of looking after Maharaj is. I really want to be blessed of having Maharaj in my house but if it cannot be treated with the utmost respect then I won't disrespect Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji. Please provide as much detail as possible. Thank you. Bhull Chuk Maaf. VJKK VJKF
  2. I was at the gurdwara on Sunday and I was deeply hurt how the gurdwara committee showed satkaar for guru Granth shaib ji, this event has deeply hurt me, 2 things happed so the fist one was, our local mp was gone come, so the gurdwaras committee decided to stop the Katha half way through so the mp could speak and when she finished Katha was resumed, this shows that katha has no importance to them. and the guru words are less important and some MP is bigger than guru shaib. and when the Katha resumed and the mp was leaving all the committee members got up and left the divan with the mp, to me it just looked like they don't repeat guru Granth shaib as out guru and while the whole committee was escorting the mp outside, there was no committee member left in the divan to tell the Sangat the next programme and the Parcharak how long he's time on stage was. they had just anbandoded guru sahibs Darbar I feel this is very sad, that we have people running gurdwaras who dont even have satkaar for Maharaj and it has opened my eyes that we need change
  3. VJKK VJKF, In my school there's a white, Christian R.S teacher and he has the 5 K's on a shelf in his room for display. He also has Sri Adi Granth Sahib in romanized on his shelf. I just wanted to know if that's okay. Is he doing any beadbi? Vaheguru Ji.
  4. pasted from: Gurmat Bibek forum- http://gurmatbibek.com/forum/read.php?3,32489 source: Gurmat Parkash, Page 128-130, by Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Jee The true Sikhs of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee believe SGGS to be the true saroop of the ten Gurus, and have complete and absolute respect for SGGS. SGGS is the King of Kings and believing that is the life and religion of the True Gurus Sikhs. 1) With your mind, words and actions believe Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee to be your true saviour. Following the Hukam of Sri Dasmesh Jee do not believe in any other physical guru or believe that any other Guru can save and redeem you. 2) Whenever there is any program or Smagam and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is Parkaashed, it should be done at a high and clean place. 3) The Rumalle that are used should be simple and clean. There is no need to use colourful and silken Rumalle. It is Maha Manmat to put pictures in front of and on the Rumalle. 4) There should be at least 5 Rumalle. 5) Sukhasan should be done on a nice bed. There should be sheets on the floor and on top there should be a Chananee. 6) It is not appropriate to do Sukhasan in a closet or cupboard and it is a sign of ignorance of Sikhi Asools. If any poor Sikhs do not have a second room or space for a nice bed to do Sukhasan on, they can according to their financial situation and to the best of their ability, but with perfect and absolute respect do Sukhasan in an open closet, but that open closet should very clean and be decorated with simple Rumalle and cloths. 7) It is very important for the Sukhasan room or place to smell good using Thoof. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is the form of the Gurus and is above and beyond hunger, pain and the feeling of cold or hot. So for this reason to change the Rumalle and do Bhog of food according to different seasons is total Manmat. 9) It is Manmat to put pictures of the Gurus anywhere near where Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is Parkashed. In the room or on the Rumalle. 10) In the room where Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is Parkash that room should be completely cleaned and properly prepared, this is very important. When Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is Parkash it is very important to do Chaur Sahib. It is important Keep doing Chaur until a Paati Singh reads from the Saroop and/or takes a Hukamnama. 11) When someone sits on the Tabia do Paat or take a Hukam it is important that they do Panj Ishnaan before sitting down. This is a sign of complete and utmost respect. Those that quickly sit on Tabia without doing Panj Ishnaan can not be called true and caring Sikhs. To sit on Tabia without washing your feet, the same feet that have been in shoes is not appropriate. This is a very heavy disrespect of Guru Sahib. To wear a dirty Pajamee and sit on Tabia is a horrible offence as well. A Singh should take off his Pajamee before sitting on Tabia. Those that dont take off their Pajaamees are scared because either they are not wearing proper Kachherai or they aren't wearing Kachherai at all and are wearing something else. So for this reason out of fear they do not take off their Pajamee. 12) For Bibian the Hukam is before sitting on Tabia they should put on a new and completely washed and clean Pajamee or Salwar. Do not wear those Pajameea that have been worn and are smelly. They should also wash their feet. Any Salwar or Pajamee that has touched a shoe should not be worn when sitting on Tabia. We have seen that at Sri Amritsar Darbar Sahib the Sevadaars do not take off their Pajameea when sitting on Tabia. But the fact is that they have special Pajameea that they only wear when they do Seva. After they are done their Seva they take off those Pajameea and wear different ones. In this way only clean and new Pajameea are worn when they do Seva. That Sevadaar that does not wear clean Bana when sitting on Tabia is a Daindaar to Guru Sahib. Those that wear dirty clothes when sitting on Tabia their Bhagtee will never completely come to fruit. We have seen some Naam-Dhareek Sikhs that wear smelly clothes and have smelly feet that have been in shoes and without any fear sit on Tabia and do Paat from Sri Guru Granth Sahib. From their feet there is a strong repulsive stench that comes from the leather boots that they wear, but still with such smelly clothes and feet they sit on Tabia and do not care. Yet they claim and call themselves to be complete and perfect Gursikhs of the Guru. These people say with complete faith that without doing Darshan of Guru Sahib we do not eat or drink or start any task. We are Kurbaan and sacrifice ourselves to this commitment of theirs but alas if only they kept the Rehat that we have described above.
  5. It's been over a year since infamous Dudley Protest against the Gurdwara committee run hall allowing meat and alcohol parties. With news that Ramgharia Gurdwara Coventry Committee have gone back to hosting weekly meat alcohol parties in the annexed Ramgharia Hall despite Akal Takht's clear Hukumnamas, Sandesh and Aadesh... Swindon Gurdwara Committee oppose an inter-faith marriage as it defies Akal Takht... but still allow meat alcohol parties in the hall they run next to the Gurdwara... Dudley Gurdwara Committee made an announcement on the Gurdwara stage last week that the hall has been re-opened and is ready for booking meat alcohol parties...despite the volatility of the situation... Have things really changed in the last 12 months and how do we continue to tackle this epidemic? Akal Takht have provided the guidance but the Sikh doesn't seem to bothered ensure it's adhered to...
  6. Some members of the sikhsangat.com may already be aware of this. HM Prison Ford (informally known as Ford Open Prison) is a Category D men's prison, located in West Sussex, England. Within the prison is a Chaplaincy which is used by all faith groups. Within the prison chaplaincy is a section where the permanent parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj is kept. The section is set up with a tabya, cushions, rummala, canopy as you would expect. However, the sewa only takes place once a week on Thursdays, when the actual parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Saroop is carried out. The rest of the week Maharaj’s saroop is in Sukhasan. It is evident to many of us that there are massive concerns of Satkaar around this whole set up, not just around the issue of weekly parkash, but whether Maharaj’s saroop needs to actually be there. The Sikh Chaplaincy Service (SCS) part of the NSO (http://www.nsouk.co.uk/members.htm) do a great seva in ensuring the UK Prison service have Sikh support across the country. HM Prison Ford is just one of the many prisons SCS provide Chaplin seva to. The Granthi Singh comes from Gurdwara Nanaksar in Portsmouth every Thursday to the prison to carry out the weekly Sikh service during when prakash of Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj is carried out. The issue here is about whether it is acceptable or unacceptable to have Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj’s Saroop in UK prisons, particularly around the issue of Satkaar. Firstly, we are not sure on the consumption of meat, alcohol, tobacco, drugs on the complex. Secondly, the parkash sewa is not carried out on a daily basis, so the question arises whether Maharaj’s saroop needs to be there. The number of Sikh inmates in Ford prison is not clear. The above issue has been known to many members of the sangat for over a month now, but the issue has received mixed opinions to the extent that it now seems to have become a “non-issue”. There have been a number of formal dialogues between different members of the Sangat (including Satkaar Campaign) with Sikh Chaplaincy Service, the Granthi, prominent Sikhs, various Prabhandaks around the country, Sikh Council UK and even the Governor of the Prison. But nothing has really materialised. Now it’s time to ask the aam Sangat of what their opinion is? To many of us the set up does not seem right and it feels a beadbi is taking place. However to others, particularly some “influential” Sikhs, there seems to be no issue or the issue is too high profile to tackle as it involves the HM Prison Service and Lord Inderjit Singh, Chairman of the NSO (who run the Sikh Chaplaincy Service). What’s the Sangat’s opinion? Please give some input as the elders and jathebhandis aren’t really providing any direct guidance? Below are some exerts from SGPC Rehit Maryada and other Akal Takht directives: Aadesh from Sri Akal Takth Sahib on protocol from Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, letter reference 3/12/3609 dated 24th January 2012: “…The Guru Granth Sahib should be opened, read and closed ceremonially with reverence in in order to prevent any disrespect…” Sikh Rehit Maryada, Section Three, Chapter IV, Article V. “.... The place where it is installed should be absolutely clean. An awning should be erected above. The Guru Granth Sahib should be placed on a cot measuring up to its size and overlaid with absolutely clean mattress and sheets. For proper installation and opening of the Guru Granth Sahib , there should be cushions/pillows appropriate kind etc. and, for covering it, romalas (sheet covers of appropriate size). When the Guru Granth Sahib is not being read, it should remain covered with a romala. A whisk too, should be there…” Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji must not be taken into any environment where alcohol, meat and tobacco will be consumed or served. This Hukamnama Religious Order) was issued in 1998 and specifically states: “...This Hukamanama instructs that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (Sikh Holy Scriptures treated as the living Guru) must not be taken to a hotel, banqueting suite, club, pub, bar etc as this is direct abuse to Sikh Principles. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji must not be present where alcohol, meat or tobacco is served or consumed…”
