  1. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh ! I am in a bit of a conundrum Saadh Sangat Jee. I have decided that I want to take Amrit and walk the path of our Guru, my wife doesn't eat meat / drink etc however is not ready as of yet to take Amrit. Her mind-set is to take Amrit but not right now, and I respect that. We have one young child (7 months) and we are planning to have more in the future. My questions are : Am I still able to take Amrit from the Panj Pyaare even though my wife will not be? Are we still able to have a physical relationship (without her having taken Amrit)? I have read through some of the posts on previous topics, but would be keen to hear and read everyone's thoughts? Bhul Chuk Maaf Daas Gurvinder Singh
  2. http://www.sikh24.com/2018/06/29/op-ed-misogyny-in-the-khalistan-movement-view-of-a-kaur/#.WzXeLnrwbcs I was sent this article and found it to be very accurate and on the ball. However, as much as i agree with this article, i think this article could be expanded even further. yes the typical khalistani in the uk is male, amritdhari and lashes out when anyone opposes their views. trust me i used to be exact the same. but taking a step back since i have moved away from birmingham, i can see that by restricting the movement to black and white, is never take the movement forward. the movement never was restricted to just amritdharis, initially the Anandpur Sahib mata was for all Punjab. secondly, Sant ji being the great visionary that he was, actively sought those who had broken away from sikhi i.e the smugglers, gangsters etc. thirdly, even at the peak of the movement, a lot of the kharkoos were not just gursikhs, a lot were well known guys in their areas and that gave them the base to branch out to other like minded guys and had girls who helped them out. so if you compare that to now, in general the khalistanis are seen as extremists by most sikhs (which hurts me to say), while the so called khalistanis are quick to alienate anyone who doesnt agree with them and give themselves in front of their own circles the hype about how panthic they are. from sant ji to baba manochahal, brahma, budhsinghwala to mintoo, these had enough vision to realise that if you want the sangaarsh to move forward, then all types of sikhs need to be involved, whether that is gursikhs, non gursikhs, male/female, young/old or anything else.
  3. I know castes are stupid and they make no sense but why don’t the majority if not all chamars have Singh in their name. I come from a “jatt” family and even before I have taken Amrit my family kept Singh as their last name (no ones amritdhari apart from me, I’m only 17), even in school all my friends have singh either as their last or middle name, and my “chamar” friends don’t have it. Why don’t they have it? I thought they were Sikh as well as they have Maharaj saroop in ravidas gurdware? (I know all gurdware are caste free, but let’s be real they really aren’t)
  4. Salute to this mahaan jodha who sacrificed his all for us, funding himself for the sangaarsh, turning his back on a successful business and the luxuries of the west.
  5. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! I have heard conflicting information regarding Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s wife Jind “Kaur” (only a Kaur in name). Shes often praised and seen as a role model for Kaurs. However, recently I have seen people say that she was corrupt and sleeping with the Dogra’s. What do you guys think?
  6. Fateh - i am currently in wales near swansea staying with a family member while they set up their business. if there are any singhs who are from the area - please get in touch.
  7. After seeing this in the news: http://www.firstpost.com/india/who-is-jaspal-atwal-khalistani-militant-convicted-of-trying-to-kill-punjab-minister-roils-india-canada-relations-4362871.html I was wondering if anyone has got more information about the khalistan movement in canada during the 80s/90s. I know the likes of Parmar, Bagri, Para, Kooner, Khera and now Raman etc are all well known, but there were many other actions that took place in Canada. The likes of jasbir Singh Atwal, Jaspal Singh Atwal, Amarjit Singh Dhindsa and Sukhdial Singh Gill, I also remeber hearing about another group of youth who tried doing Rajiv Gandhi on his visit there? Can anyone share any info as these are kurbaniyah that were taken by the youth during a dark period in our history. Advance Warning: IF YOU GOT NOTHING PRODUCTIVE TO SAY THEN PLEASE DONT COMMENT ON THIS THREAD lol

Wjkk wjkf, I’m an 18 year old Sikh male, I really like this girl, we are both 18. But we are distant relatives. She is my moms brothers sons daughter. So she is my cousins daughter. She is 18 and so am I and was wondering whether this marriage would have a problem in the Sikh rehat maryada or in any other way. Bhullar chuka Khema muaf. Wjkk wjkf

    Mr

Hello, I am currently working on a thesis project for my final year in my architecture course which involves researching a specific character in relation to the Tay River, in this case it is Duleep Singh, who is very much a character who has adopted both his traditional values and those he developed during his stay in the United Kingdom, and more specifically, Scotland. The term "hybrid identity" comes to mind, and I a very much interested in learning more about the Sikh community in Scotland. Are there any rituals, practices, or outlooks you may have that may perhaps contrast or differ from those of Sikhs in other parts of the world? What are some of the issues (if any) of practicing Sikhism in Scotland? What are your thought on Maharaja Duleep Singh? I hope I have asked my questions as sensitively as possible, I hope nothing I have asked or stated has come off as offensive as that is the last of my intentions.
  12. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Just wondering what peoples views are on this rap video I came across on rather large youtube channel that showcases rap talent. Its good that Sikhs are now finding the spotlight, and slowly becoming more publicised. Not entirely sure about the 'gangster' image though.
  13. Hi, This has probably been discussed before but it's something I can't really wrap my head around. I'm a singh with full beard and have cousins who are the same, we are finding it difficult to find Sikh girls as life partners. The ones I've been introduced to have a problem with me not cutting my beard and being vegetarian etc... few have asked me if I would cut my beard etc... this coming from supposedly Sikh girls and it's quite disgraceful. I've had more interest from girls who are not Sikh...i.e Gujarati, English girls etc.. who don't seem to care about me being a full singh, it's raising questions in my head about the future of Sikhi as a whole, our Sikh girls are moving away from our faith/traditions and adopting western values and ways above all. One of my cousins got fed up and cut his beard in the hopes to be more 'accepted', but I feel this is the wrong choice to make. I'd be lying if I said the thought didn't cross my mind but I don't want to move away from Sikhi just to find a wife, but it seems like our Sikh girls are. Suppose this is more of a rant than a question as such.

Ajay Singh, 26, was condemned for his 'indescribable selfishness' after his Volkswagen Polo ploughed into Vicky Myres in Timperley, Greater Manchester. The 24-year-old was out cycling with her boyfriend's mother at 8am on a Sunday when she was knocked to the ground. Singh later sped off and left the young florist, from Flixton, dying at the roadside before she was pronounced dead after suffering fatal injuries. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/09/26/17/44BCF87300000578-4922170-image-m-2_1506443400402.jpg Vicky Myres (pictured) was riding her bike when she was hit by Ajay Singh when he was driving his Volkswagen Polo http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/09/26/17/44BCF82F00000578-4922170-image-a-3_1506443550634.jpg Singh was behind the wheel when he hit Miss Myres when she was out cycling with her boyfriend's mother http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/09/26/17/44BCF86300000578-4922170-image-m-12_1506443917542.jpg Miss Myres was a keen cyclist and had just completed the trip from Land's End to John O'Groats with her boyfriend James (pictured together) Following the tragedy it emerged she had just bought a house with her long-term partner James and the couple had recently completed the Land's End to John O'Groats bike ride. Singh was traced several hours after the crash and arrested. Experts are now currently studying blood or urine samples taken from him to establish whether he was over the drink and drug driving limit at the time of the impact. At Minshull Street Crown Curt, Manchester, Singh admitted causing death by dangerous driving and also failing to stop and report a road crash. He faces a maximum 14 years in prison when he appears again in court next month but the length of his stretch is expected to be discounted due to his guilty plea. In 2010, he had appeared before court aged 18 over an attack by a gang on a 17-year-old boy at a park in Rochdale which left the victim with bleeding on the brain. Miss Myers and her boyfriend would usually go on bike rides together and she was riding when she was knocked over The 24-year-old florist (pictured) was out cycling with her boyfriend's mother at 8am on a Sunday when she was knocked to the ground. Shortly after her death it was revealed that Miss Myers had just bought a home with her boyfriend Relatives of Miss Myres wept in the pubic gallery as prosecutor Rob Hall said: 'At the moment the Crown doesn't have the results of any blood toxicology in relation to samples taken. 'He may be entering a plea without knowing the nature of the aggravating features - but I do understand though that the defendant would like to get back some credit. If he pleads it will make it difficult for the crown to put in a new charge. 'Toxicology results are due back this week and we have to look at back calculations as well. The Crown would be able to serve everything of significance within 28 days. The defendant is likely to face a substantial term.' Remanding Singh in custody, Judge John Potter told him: 'You have pleaded guilty to the most indescribable selfishness which has caused significant harm to the rest of their lives to many, many people. 'You have to understand as a consequence the court will impost custody of some length. Exactly how long will be determined by a colleague of mine on October 26. 'It can't be imposed today because there's more information the CPS need to provide before the court can give an appropriate sentence. 'On October 26 everything will be in place to receive as I say what will be a significant custodial sentence. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/09/26/17/44BCF86700000578-4922170-image-a-21_1506444142845.jpg Singh today admitted mowing down Miss Myers and leaving her to die in the middle of the road http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/09/26/17/44BCF86F00000578-4922170-image-a-22_1506444145129.jpg He will be sentenced at a later date and the judge condemned him for 'indescribable selfishness' 'I disqualify you immediately, the exact amount of the disqualification will be determined on October 26. There is only one outcome which is immediate custody. I will remand you until October 26.' At the time of Miss Myres' death, her family said: 'Our lovely daughter Vicky Myers has been taken from us at the age of only 24, leaving her mum and dad, sister Rachael, brother Andrew, Grandad and Grandma, Sarah and Martin and especially partner, James, devastated. 'She had everything to live for and, together with James, had brought a house last year and just completed Lands End to John O'Groats by bike - over 1,000 miles within 12 full days of cycling. 'Her life was perfect, she lived it to the full and, together with her devoted partner James, they were planning longer and more exotic trips'. 'She had been a vegetarian for a while and more recently had become a vegan and enjoyed working as a florist. 'It's easy to say your daughter is lovely but she was, both inside and out. It has left a void that we cannot see being filled, ever.'
  17. WJKK WJKF! This topic I am starting is not to do nindiyah, to fight with anyone or cause anyone disrespect. I am starting this purely due to my personal interest in the Khalistan Movement. Our Shaheeds who spilt blood will be forever remembered, while our brothers in jails and the familes who lost everything are in constantly in my thoughts. Nowadays the movement kind of gets glorified in the UK, I see a lot of people wear tshirts of certain Shaheed Singhs for fashion, image, repping a jathebandi or just to give it large. Whilst we are all aware of certain individuals who were the enemy e.g. indira, rajiv, beantah, gobind ram, gill and co, I would like to know more about those who were classed as our 'own' and sold the movement out. A LOT of lessons need to be learnt here, while I think this needs to be equally be exposed as much as the stories of our brave Shaheed brothers. Like I said before, this topic is not to cause inter-jatha beef, or for people to argue, lets have a discussion where anyone who has been mentioned as a sell out, can be justified for being one too. The kind of people I am interested in are the roles of Wassan Singh Zaffarwal (who I personally think made a massive kurbani prior to surrendering), Mokham Singh, Jasbir Singh Rode, the role of Simranjeet Singh Mann who I know Baba Manochahal was not a fan of, also I would like to more about any Singhs who sold out on their own jatha which resulted in them becoming shaheed, people such as 'Vanchiri' who had Baba Manochahal done, the guy who had Deepa Herawala done etc. Lastly, would be informative to hear views about the ISYF and the stories of them being corrupted and using funds for personal gain. All replies will be appreciated and I look forward to learning more and not arguing with anyone. This topic is for educational purposes only so that we can learn from the mistakes of our elders. A lot of these stories will soon never come to light due to people that know the truth getting older etc. P.S Apologies I know this topic has been touched on before and I have read majority of those before.

    should i leave amrit?

Well, I'm 15 and an Amritdhari since I was 10. Since two years a beard started growing on my face and I didn't bother much about it, until now. Teachers tell me that I need to shave, while my peers stay away from me cuz "i look like a terrorist" lol. At first I didn't think it much but continuous pressure by pretty much everyone has made me feel quite depressed. I thought it would be great to tie it, but my parents don't want it cuz they say this is papey-tarkhana da kam lol. my father is an ex amritdhari mona and my mother also removes her facial hair. to be honest, my father had warned me not to take amrit cuz he said there will be a time when i would want to cut kes, eat meat etc. it was difficult to find some money to buy some hair gel as my father doesn't give me any pocket money and when i ask for some he either swears or says he doesn't have anything. truth is that much of his income goes to extra-school activities like taekwondo, football, 4-5 tuitions which cost almost 600 euros. all that just because he wants me to "become something" by simply cutting me off from society. i don't own a phone while pretty much everybody does and even the pc i'm using now is a gift from a friend of my father. he somehow expects me to be the best kid in school and become a doctor, while most of the time i'm exiled either to football, taekwondo or any freaking tuition. when i complain he starts beating he hell out of me. all that has made me think that it would be better to leave amrit. panj pyare had told that when taking amrit my caste was eradicated. but everytime i go to gurudwara i see amritdharis asking my caste. i also see amritdharis hating each other while we were supposed to be a family.
  19. Wjkk wjkf. I had a question regarding sant jarnail singh. In many of sant jis speeches he does benti to the sangat that every pind in punjab must have revolvers and a motorcycle. I understand the revolver part because sikhs need to keep shastars, but i do not understand why does every pind need a motorcycle. Can anyone in the sangat please explain this to me. Bulha chuka kehma muaf. Wjkk wjkf
  20. Why did many of the gurus keep horses. What was the reason for this. I know guru hargobind sahib said that sikhs now need horses and weapons but what was the reason
  21. Wjkk wjkf. Is the environment more important to sikhs then to be thyar bar thyar (ready upon ready). Now it is no question every sikh, Whether they are a singh or singhni, should keep shastars on them, such as the kirpan which dasm patshah gave us, and encourage brothers and sisters to even buy a gun and be trained in the use of guns and other martial arts (including gatka). But the guru sahib also told us to keep and train in korsvari or horseback so we can use this skill in battle. The modern equivelant of a horse (because horses would be useless in todays conflicts)for battle would be a jeep. But the environmental impacts of the jeep from its emissions damage the earth and lead to global warming. So is it better to get a more fuel efficient vehicle and care for the environment and sacrafice staying thyar bar thyar with a jeep. An example of this is guru hargobind sahib ji and guru har rai sahib ji. Guru hargobind sab ji started miri piri making us saints and then soldiers. And as saints we should take care of our surrounding environment. Or the story of how guru har rai sahib jis palla hit and broke a rose head and guru hargobind sahib ji said play and walk carefully and do not destroy gods creation. I just wanted to know what the khalsa panth thought about this idea, should sikhs stay thyar bar thyar and get vehicles like jeeps even with the impact of the environment or should sikhs be more environmentally friendly with the sacrifice of being thyar bar thyar. Bulla chuka kehma muaf. Wjkk wjkf

    Sikh ideas vs mercenaries

Does the sikh panth or any of the guruscondem the use of mercenaries in the khalsa army, or did they say that my sikh shoulf never be a mercenary. I know guru sahibs have had many conflicts with mercenary forces and that guru gobind singh attemptwd assassination happened by mercenaries. But is there anything wrong for a sikh to become a mercenary
  23. I recently saw a facebook post of a UK singh who had committed suicide and it made me wonder what makes these people take their own lives when they have so much to life for. And this was not the only case in recent years there was a sikh girl recently who took her own life cos of not getting good enough exam grades for the uni course she wanted. There was a case of a young punjabi schoolboy taking his life after being bullied and cruelly taunted about being a pedo. And I remember another case of a singh taking his own life fear years ago because of family problems. I think there is a huge issue in our community where they are being brainwashed by false expectations and aspirations of what success is, false ideologies such as creeping backward hindu punjabi beliefs / superstitions, family pressures/problems, financial/job pressures and taking of drug alcohol intoxicants which is leading to a rise in people falling into depression and taking their own lives especially British punjabi men. The male suicide rate is often much higher than females in most communities. We should try to help more the mentally vulnerable in our community. Though its not usually easy for people to open up about problems when most our pendu people just want to laugh or critise if a guy is feeling emotionally weak due to something but has to maintain a strong face or front.
  24. Gurfateh Sangat Ji, I was wondering if anyone has travelled, lived or spent some time in Anandpur Sahib from the UK? I have been wanting to go and experience Sikhi life out there but do not know how to go about it. Any advise? Where do people stay? (Hotels, Gurdvara) How about work - if any? Travelling? How to do sangat or get in touch with Singh's/Nihung Singh's there? Any help or tips would be great. Also just to mention, I have no relatives or friends out there. I went to Punjab around 15 years ago for a couple of months. Thank you. Gurfateh Ji.
