So as being in med school I have been being more and more intrigued into sikhi and was wondering if someone can start guiding me how to start preparing for amrit of course this will take time as I want to be certain I can live that lifestyle. I mean Like to be honest I don't know punjabi or gurmukhi all to well that's one of my main issue I feel more comfortable in english but I'm willing to learn gurmukhi. I hope a singh or a kaur can guide me and put me on the right path.Hopefully like have daily talks so if I have any questions they can answer it. I'm 22 years old and I feel like its just a calling for me and just that I need help who can practically be my teacher, and if someone does respond to my message I will gladly private message them.
  2. It is now Muslims and Christians to be converted into Hindus. Once the Hindus are done with them, they will target Sikhs. Sikhs are already been under their covert attack for last 100 years or more. Sikhs need to wake before it is too late and things have gone too far. Source http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/agra/RSS-re-converts-200-Agra-Muslims-says-more-in-line/articleshow/45419338.cms AGRA: Members of at least 57 Muslim families were converted to Hinduism at a ceremony called 'Purkhon ki ghar vapsi', a mass conversion jointly organized by Dharma Jagran Samanvay Vibhag, an offshoot of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and Bajrang Dal in Agra on Monday. RSS regional head Rajeshwar Singh said more than 200 Muslims were "brought back to Hinduism" in the mass event held in Madhunagar area of the city. According to organizers, the converts will soon be given new names. Talking to TOI, Singh claimed that around 5,000 more Muslims and Christians will be "brought back into Hindu fold" in Aligarh on this Christmas. "The grand event will be held at Maheshwari College in Aligarh," he said, daring anyone to stop it. With saffron flags hoisted on rooftops of makeshift houses in this slum cluster, and matras being recited by priests, members of as many as 57 Muslim families washed feet of Hindu idols to mark their return to the religion. Long vermillion marks were put on their foreheads and they were given Prasad to eat. Later, RSS and Bajrang Dal activists gave them a 'mantra' to chant the whole day and prepared a list of all the 'converts', to get their voter IDs and Aadhaar cards made, with their new names. Sharifa, 40, was seen debating the right way of performing an aarti with her daughter-in-law, Afsha, in a small temple that has been erected by RSS men in the slum in Madhunagar. An idol of goddess Kali has also been placed in the temple, as majority of people living in the area hail from West Bengal. Sufia Begum,76, who is the oldest woman among the converts, told TOI: "I read Quran and offered namaz five times a day. Now at this age, I will read Ganesh aarti. I don't find any major difference in the teachings of the two religions." "The RSS people assured us that they will provide us better place to live, better food and schooling for my grandsons. I don't mind change of religion, as religion doesn't give us food to eat." Rajeshwar Singh told TOI that RSS spends Rs 50 lakh every month on conversion of an average 1,000 families. "It spends Rs 8-10 lakh per month on fuel costs alone in west UP," he added. "We have re-converted 2.73 lakh Muslims and Christians in Braj region that includes Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Mathura, Firozabad, Etah, Meerut, Mainpuri and Uttarakhand since 2003. The upcoming mass re-conversion event in which some 5,000 Muslims and Christians will be brought back into Hindu fold will be headed by Yogi Adityanath on December 25 in Aligarh," Singh said. Singh also claimed that RSS has taken possession of as many as 60 churches across the state, where no Christians worship now, "as they have all been re-converted to Hinduism". "Ek din in girijagharo ki deewarein bhi gir jayengi aur hamara desh sirf hinduon ka hoga (one day these churches will crumble and our country will belong to the Hindus alone)," he added. Ajju Chauhan, the Bajrang Dal leader who zeroed in on the slum in Madhunagar and organized the mass re-conversion event, was overwhelmed after the puja. More than three dozen RSS and Bajrang Dal members were guarding the pandal to avoid any untoward incident. Talking to TOI, Aslam Qureishi, prominent Sunni leader of the city, said, "This is just a tactic of the RSS to misguide Muslims."

  10. Wjkk Wjkf Is it true.. that specific pauris and gurubanis have specific effects and powers.. For instance it says that if you read the 25th pauri you will obtain wealth, need , virtue , estate .. or pauri 33 which supposedly elimates your karmas, or 38 gives you the knowledge and power to write your own destiny.. And jaap sahib; rouses your soul and allows you to obtain ridi sidi powers... So do specific banis and or specific pauris have such an effect, or should we just mediate on God and ask him for whatever we need? The effect of pauri and banis was written by yogis bhajan Singh.. aren't Sikhs against yogis and thier ways? So is he correct in what he says about the bani and its effects? Or is their an misconception? All help from gyanis, and other enlightened people will be very much appreciated thanks you.

  12. Article written by Tarlochan SIngh - Press Secretary to Giani Zail SinghPress Secretary to President Giani Zail Singh in 1984. Former Member of Parliament from Haryana, Tarlochan Singh has served as the Chairman of National Commission for Minorities, been a member of the National Human Rights Commission and has tremendous work for the benefit of Sikhs around the world to his credit. I clearly remember on 31 October 1984, I was in Sanaa, the capital of North Yemen, as part of the official delegation of the state visit of the President of India. Early in the morning, a telephone call came from Air Vice Marshal R.S. Naidu, the Military Secretary to the President of India, that everybody has to reach the airport as the President had cancelled the State visit and was going back to India. When we reached the airport, the President also reached after some time along with the President of Yemen. Aboard the Air India aircraft, I immediately went to the cabin of Gianiji and there he told me that Shri Alexander, who was the Principal Secretary of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, had called him to inform that the PM had been shot by her bodyguards and she has been taken to the hospital. Nothing more was disclosed to Gianiji. After coming out of the President’s cabin, I briefed the media contingent about the happenings in New Delhi. Prabhu Chawla, Sardar Satinder Singh, Inderjit and other journalists started forming their opinions. Prabhu Chawla and Satinder Singh said Indira Gandhi must have died, as she was shot from a close range by her bodyguards. Gianiji discussed the future course of action with his Secretary and Romesh Bhandari, the then Foreign Secretary. Gianiji had made up his mind to appoint Shri Rajiv Gandhi as the Prime Minister and he disclosed this to the journalists. As there was no facility of telephone in the aircraft during those days, no further information was forthcoming. The special aircraft of the President landed at Delhi airport at 16:00 hrs. From airport, he went straight to AIIMS with the normal convoy of officers following him. The security on the route was less than expected. My car was fourth in the convoy of the President and when we were passing through RK Puram, some miscreants were seen shouting slogans. They immediately rushed towards our car and started hitting it with lathis and even threw a burning torch inside the car. However, my alert driver threw it out and drove the car out of harm’s way towards Rashtrapati Bhawan. I was saved with the grace of Akaal Purkh. No policeman came to help us at that time. When Gianiji returned to his car after looking up Shrimati Indira Gandhi, slogans were being raised against him and the mob was closing in on his car .The President’s security could clear the way for his car with great difficulty. Immediately after reaching the Rashtrapati Bhawan, he asked for the Vice President R. Venkataraman and requested him to go to All India Radio to announce the death of Shrimati Indira Gandhi. At 18:00 hrs, Shri Rajiv Gandhi was administered the oath of Prime Minister, along with four other Cabinet Ministers, including Buta Singh. At about 20:00 hrs, I started receiving telephone calls that anti-Sikh mobs were on a rampage targeting Sikhs and their properties. I immediately went to Gianiji’s room and his daughter Dr Gurdip Kaur and Sardar Kulwant Singh, his private secretary were already there. He was surprised initially, but when the complete report was given to him, the seriousness of the situation dawned upon him. I came back to my house and throughout the night, I kept getting reports of atrocities against Sikhs. In the morning, I was informed by Kulwant Singh that Gianiki kept trying to get in touch with the newly-appointed Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi till late night, but in vain. This was very surprising, as a few hours ago he had been administered the oath of the PM by him. This fact was recently confirmed by Dr Gurdip Kaur, the daughter of the President, as she was present at the Rashtrapati Bhawan when the situation was unfolding. She also confirmed that the President felt helpless. The next day the situation became worse as there was large scale genocide of Sikhs and destruction of their home and properties. The situation in the outer areas was worst and the rage had spread even to the posh areas of Delhi. The Sikhs were attacked very systematically and burnt alive. The historians compared it with the genocide under Nadir Shah’s rule centuries back in Delhi. The gurdwaras in the colonies were burnt down and the police was nowhere to be seen. The police was assisting the mob in targeting Sikhs and was seen to be attacking Sikhs who were defending themselves. I remember that I.K. Gujral, Air Chief Marshal Arjan Singh and General J.S. Arora had come to the Rashtrapati Bhawan and painted a very grim picture. They asked for the intervention of the President and also met the Home Minister P.V. Narsimha Rao. The whole government was busy with the funeral arrangements of Shrimati Indira Gandhi and nobody bothered about the Sikhs. Even the Sikhs belonging to Congress Party were attacked while on way to Teen Murti Bhawan to pay their last respects to Shrimati Indira Gandhi. Same day, Gurdwara Rakab Ganj was also attacked and granthis killed and all this was visible from the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Even though the situation was so grim, the Army was not summoned before evening and that too the government called the Army from Meerut and not from Delhi Cantt. It arrived the next day on 2nd November 1984 and, till date it is not clear as to who was responsible for the delay. I remember that in that hour of difficulty, BJP leaders V.K. Malhotra and Madan Lal Khurana had met the President and told him that Sikh passengers were being dragged out and killed at Saifabad and Ghaziabad railway stations. Malhotraji took team of volunteers to Saifabad and saved many Sikhs. For three days, Delhi was orphaned and there was no sign of law and order. Thousands of Sikhs were massacred in Delhi and at other places in India only because they were wearing turbans. Many Sikh army officers and other rank officers were also killed in trains and other places. This cruel reality cannot be forgotten and there are many unanswered questions: Why were innocent massacred? Why did the police connive with the mob? Why was the army not called immediately? Who were the conspirators in the genocide of Sikhs? We are still waiting for the answers! www.lokmarg.com
  13. Ruqan-ud-Deen: The Sikh Martyr of Guru Nanak Period Col Dr Dalvinder Singh Grewal Recently new facts about Qazi Ruqun-ud-Deen of Mecca Mosque, a devout follower of Guru Nanak have come to light where he has been stoned to death on the order of Ameer of Mecca because he followed and propogated Guru Nanak’s teaching instead of Islam Name of Ruqun-ud-Deen appears in 3 Janamsakhis: Puratan Janamsakhi (pp.105-107) (1), Janamsakhi B 40 (p.66) (2) and Janamsakhi Bhai Mani Singh (pp. 379-389) (3). In a recent paper by Prof. Himmat Singh (4) details of Ruqun-ud-Deen also appear in three recently located manuscripts ‘Syahto Baba Nanak Faqir’ (1509 AD) (5) written by Taj-u-deen Naqshbandi, Twareekh-i-Arab’(1505-06 AD) (6) written by Khwaja Zain ul Abideen and Gunitusalehin (1506-07) written by Abdul Rahman.(7) According to Puratan Janamsakhi, Ruqun-ud-Deen was a Qazi and was present at the famous Mecca mosque during Guru Nanak’s visit to Mecca. Reaching Mecca, Guru Nanak slept keeping his feet towards Qaba. Ruqun-ud-Deen asked him not to do so since feet should not be towards God’s home. Guru Nanak asked him to move his feet to the direction where God is not present. Qazi Ruqun-ud-Deen caught Guru Nanak’s feet and moved. In whatever direction he moved Guru’s feet the Qaba followed. Astonished Ruqun-ud-Deen kissed Guru’s feet and asked his name and held discussions with him. (1) Details of ‘Makke di Goshat’ are given thereafter in which Guru sang his hymn ‘Yak arz guftam pes(i) tu dargos kun kartar’. (Mahla 1; Tilang, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, p. 721). ‘Syahto Baba Nanak Faqir’(5) whose writer Taj-u-deen Naqshbandi had joined Guru Nanak’s party from Iran and recorded daily movements of Guru Nanak, wrote about this event as well. According to him, Guru Nanak moved from there to the Qabristan of Mecca and stayed there for three days. Mardana started his music (in accompaniment of Guru Nanak’s hymns). The people of Arab gathered in the presence of Guru Nanak. Heaps of dates and pots of milk were presented by these devotees. At the end of the music, Guru Nanak delivered a sermon. Qazi Ruqun-ud- Deen, Khwaja Zain-ul-aab(i) Deen (writer of Tareekh(i) Arab), Qazi Gulam Ahmed (Richest man of Mecca) and Ibni Aswad , the head of Quresh tribe and heads of Budhu tribes were also present then. The hymn ‘Yak Arz Guftam’ became a fad for Qazi Ruqun-ud-Deen. Khwaja Zain-ul-aab(i) Deen the writer of Twareekh(i) Arab, was present in Qabristan of Mecca. He wrote in the chapter Bab-ul-Mecca of his book ‘Twareekh-i-Arab’ (p. 300): The sermon of Guru Nanak was heard by 300 followers. Ruqun-ud-Deen went into deep meditation. Thereafter Ruqun-ud-Deen never went back to his home and remained in meditation in a cave till he was put to death by the fundamentalist regime. When Amir of Mecca came to know that the Muslims are following an infidel, he issued fatwas. These fatwas (religious orders) were; 1. Nanak faqir is an infidel. His teachings are falsehood and against the Muslim religion. 2. Ruqun-ud-Deen’s entire property will be confiscated. 3. The Khwesh tribe, the follower of Guru Nanak is ordered to leave the country. 4. Each followers of Guru Nanak ‘to undergo beating by 30 lashes and to be without food for 11 days.’ 5. They will then be burried in sand dunes. 6. Before this they will be taken on camels around the city with blackened faces. 7. They will be hung upside down. 8. The strongest follower of Guru Nanak (Ruqun-ud deen) will be burried in ground till his chest and then stoned to death. Since it was announced in the city that a criminal is being stoned to death; the citizens thronged to watch the event. The citizens of Mecca gathered round with stones….The writer of Twarikh-e-Arab sums up this event saying: “The sacrifice of Ruqun-ud-Deen was special.Watching the sacrifice, 50% of the onlookers became followers of Nanak”. This is how the number of followers of Guru Nanak increased with each sacrifice. Amir of Mecca sent his men to locate and eliminate Guru Nanak as well. Abdul Rahman the writer of another book Gunitusalehin (1506-07) was one such person assigned the job. He wrote about his encounter with Guru Nanak in his book: “When I was driving my horse with speed and hurry; my horse stopped abruptly. I tried to move him by kicking and hitting but the horse did not move. I lifted my head to find in front that at a distance of 100 yards the faqirs were seated. The elderly person in the midst of them had a brightened face and an aura around of him more powerful than thousands of suns. This brightness shut my eyes and I had a revelation that I was about to commit a crime. The horse proved better than me who saved me from committing this crime even though I gave him lashes to advance. In front of me is the same Godly person who had moved Mecca mosque. Shah Sharaf and Ruqun-ud-Deen became his devout followers. He has rightly spread the True Name of God among the Arabs and is now in front of me. I regained my senses and thought of doing the right. I immediately saw the reason; left my horse and shoes and fell at his feet.” This is how the person who had come to kill Guru Nanak turned his follower. Ruqun-ud-Deen had become a devout follower of Guru Nanak and was put to death because of his following of Guru Nanak. Ruqun-ud-Deen can thus be considered as the first martyr of Sikhism. His two tribes Sibi and Budhu migrated immediately from Mecca to Tirah area of Afghanistan where they are now permanently settled and have faith in reciting Japuji Sahib till date. References 1. 17. reading the comments on the grooming thread kind of annoyed me cause a lot of the replies are coming from a mindset of victimhood which probably explains why the problem never has bin solved though its probably a lot better cause almost every Sikh girl I met in the UK has a hate or a distrust for Muslims but a few still date Muslims but many in England Canada and America date non Sikhs till is marriage time then find a Sikh man to marry to keep their family happy or end up marrying a non Sikh if their family approves or not philosophy and culture influence each other examples philosophy are belief's culture is environment people are exposed to most Punjabis born in England have a philosophy or call it a belief that cricket is one of the greatest sports out their most Punjabis born in Canada have a belief or call it philosophy that ice hockey is one of the greatest sports out their cause of these philosophical beliefs in the British born Punjabi culture Punjabis prefer cricket over ice hockey and in Canada Canadian born Punjabis prefer ice hockey over cricket philosophy is what determines are belief's and belief's can empower people or disempower people Sikh philosophy empowered people which led many to convert to Sikhi when it was illegal to become a Sikh and could get you killed and this empowerment let to the first time in over a thousand years for Punjab to be ruled by people of the punjab before Sikhism the jat and other caste philosophies and overall vast majority of the Punjabi philosophy which influenced people's belief's disempowered them leading to Punjab getting its butt kicked over and over from Arabs Mongals Persians Afghans Mughals for over a thousand years including Kashmir it created a culture of weakness today we have lost majority of the Sikh philosophy which empowered people and the old Punjabi philosophy has crept back in and taken over most Punjabis including majority of Amritdhari Sikhs hence why Amritdharis have a hard time finding solutions to community problems cause with out knowing it they think their following Sikh philosophy but really their following the disempowering Punjabi philosophy THE SIKH PHILOSOPHY EMPOWERED WOMEN AND BELIEVED IN STRONG WOMEN RAISE STRONG CHILDREN LEADS TO A STRONG COMMUNITY THIS LED TO EMPOWERED WOMEN WHO WOULD CHARGE INTO THE BATTLE FIELD AND KILL ANY BARBARIAN OR HAVE THEIR CHILDREN CUT UP AND TURNED INTO NECKLASSES AND NOT BREAK A TEAR CAUSE OF THE MENTAL STRENGTH THEY HAD BUILT UP BY FOLLOWING THE SIKH PHILOSOPHY PUNJABI PHILOSOPHY IS RAISE SPOILED BOYS AND MAKE THE GIRLS DO THE HOUSE HOLD CHORES AND CLEAN UP AFTER THEIR BROTHERS WHICH LEADS TO MANY GIRLS WITH LOW SELF ESTEEM AND PUNJAB BATTLING ONE OF THE BIGGEST DRUG EPIDEMICS IN THE WORLD CAUSE THE BOYS HAVE BECOME ADDICTS CAUSE THEIR PARENTS PREFERED TO SPOIL THEM RATHER THEN RAISE THEM TO BE MEN I know Sikh girls who grew up in families that are not religious at all and some that are religious and have an extremely strong bond with their parents and have fathers that empower them these girls grow up and aren't in the clubs drinking or needing a boyfriend or anything and are confident and strong and would never do anything to harm their father and will even agree to arranged marriage long as the guy is their fathers choice cause they have a conviction their father can pick the best man for them I know Sikh girls who grew up in families that are not religious at all and some that are super religious and grow up with low self esteem, they love their parents but aren't empowered by their parents an parents don't do a good job building their confidence. The fathers fail to build a strong bond with the girls and fail to build their daughters self esteem daughters grow up and look for male attention get drunk wear mini skirts to clubs and make out with different guys date different men and some go and date outside the community and marry outside the community TOP CAUSES OF SIKH GIRLS LEAVING THE COMMUNITY OR DATING OUTSIDE THE COMMUNITY TILL ITS TIME TO GET MARRIED IS -a lot of girls are raised as second class citizens in the house hold and the brothers are spoiled -fathers fail to teach their daughters confidence. When I took sociology we learned the huge role a father plays in a daughters life a father plays the largest role in a girl developing confidence self esteem and morals. Their are some girls who are very close with their fathers but the father fails to teach them to be confident and build that confidence or about proper good morals. Father figures or a strong male figure with a close bond with the daughter or the girl dictates what type of confidence that girl will grow up with as well as morals Sikh girls with strong male figures like fathers tend to have great morals and tend to be extremely confident Sikh girls with weak male figures like fathers who favors the boy over the girl tend to have weak morals hence why they end up having relationships and pre marital sex and dating outside the community and also have low confidence which leads to mental weakness which opens the door for a Muslim to come and groom the girl or a male from the Sikh community or another community to use the girl for sex and then dump her What do you believe are other reasons for Sikh girls leaving the Sikh community??
  18. why did some Sikhs side with the british in 1799 and 1809 well shouldn't say some cause malwa alone makes up 50% of the Sikh population but also shows how extraordinary the accomplishments of the Sikhs were in conquering Kashmir and nwfp from afghanistan with only half the Sikh population
  19. I wanted to know why Guru Tegh Bahadur became a Shaheed for Hindus?
  20. I was researching for a university essay and came across this rather interesting blog piece. It's a great deconstructive take on the growth of major religions. Would be interested to see what everyone else thinks. http://ramblingsofasikh.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/sikhism-recent-and-modern-phenomenon.html

    Going To A Party?!

My best friend for the whole of high school is having a sweet 16th party. I know that they will be drinking and smoking weed which I know will ring alarm bells in our heads. But it wont be the same if I dont go. So should I go but not do anything bad and be the 'designated driver'. Its his special day but I really dont want to get mixed in with the wrong crowd. What should I do sangat ? Please help

  24. I was recently wandering while doing ardas -hoping waheguru ji will help in this world with many things. But then out of no where I just thought to myself that if I want to attain something in this world then it will come through Rudi sidhi powers( which guru ji prohibits us from using, as it inhibits our spirtality) - is that true?? So my question is when doing ardas for asking prayers to be ansawered are we in anyway using ridi sidi powers or will waheguru ji helps attain what we want without us using our powers (through the blessing of waheguru ji blesses us with) - I ask this because I don't want to lose my waheguru ji and the level of spirituality I have attained but I still want some of my prayers answered.
  25. I recently saw the trailer for this film and was saddened, especially seeing that Sikhs possess no viable film industry. http://www.flicks.co.nz/movie/the-dead-lands/ Ironically if we do ever have a historic Sikh film will it have exacerbated stunts like this:? I am sure that somewhere along the line the Punjab film industry grew confused between culture (Punjabi) and history (not balle balle).
