  1. http://sikhsiyasat.net/2014/11/01/punjab-bandh-under-pressure-from-hindutva-forces-badal-govt-arrests-sikh-activists-genocide-victims/ Punjab Bandh: Under pressure from Hindutva forces Badal govt. arrests Sikh activists, genocide victimsAmritsar, Punjab: The Punjab police has reportedly launched arrest drive to defuse Punjab Bandh call by AISSF and other Sikh bodies to protest against denial of justice to the victims of November 1984 Sikh Genocide. Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) sources revealed that the Punajb police has arrested Sikh activitsts and victims/ survivors of Sikh Genocide 1984 in wake of 1 November Punjab Bandh (Punjab Shut Down) call. Sources told Sikh Siaysat News (SSN) that around 60 people have been arrested so far in Amritsar alone. Bibi Jagdish Kaur, Karnail Singh Peermohammad and others arrested by Punjab police to defuse Punjab Bandh Call The Amritsar police arrested AISSF president Karnail Singh Peermohammad along with Sikh genocide survivor Bibi Jagdish Kaur and around 40 more persons when they were marching towards Amritsar Railways station. Karnail Singh Peermohammad, Bibi Jagdish Kaur arrested by Punjab police [November 01, 2014] It is notable that BJP leader Lakshami Kanta Chawla had warned Badal government against Punjab Bandh. Hindutva leader had demanded that the Badal government should ensure that no disturbances are allowed in road and railway traffic. The Punjab Bandh or Punjab shut down call was given by All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) and victims-survivors of the Sikh Genocide 1984 as a token protest against denial of justice to the victims of Sikh genocide 1984. The organizers of the Punjab Bandh were appealing to all sections of the society to observe shut down and show sympathy with the cause.

  5. why did some Sikhs side with the british in 1799 and 1809 well shouldn't say some cause malwa alone makes up 50% of the Sikh population but also shows how extraordinary the accomplishments of the Sikhs were in conquering Kashmir and nwfp from afghanistan with only half the Sikh population
  6. reading the comments on the grooming thread kind of annoyed me cause a lot of the replies are coming from a mindset of victimhood which probably explains why the problem never has bin solved though its probably a lot better cause almost every Sikh girl I met in the UK has a hate or a distrust for Muslims but a few still date Muslims but many in England Canada and America date non Sikhs till is marriage time then find a Sikh man to marry to keep their family happy or end up marrying a non Sikh if their family approves or not philosophy and culture influence each other examples philosophy are belief's culture is environment people are exposed to most Punjabis born in England have a philosophy or call it a belief that cricket is one of the greatest sports out their most Punjabis born in Canada have a belief or call it philosophy that ice hockey is one of the greatest sports out their cause of these philosophical beliefs in the British born Punjabi culture Punjabis prefer cricket over ice hockey and in Canada Canadian born Punjabis prefer ice hockey over cricket philosophy is what determines are belief's and belief's can empower people or disempower people Sikh philosophy empowered people which led many to convert to Sikhi when it was illegal to become a Sikh and could get you killed and this empowerment let to the first time in over a thousand years for Punjab to be ruled by people of the punjab before Sikhism the jat and other caste philosophies and overall vast majority of the Punjabi philosophy which influenced people's belief's disempowered them leading to Punjab getting its butt kicked over and over from Arabs Mongals Persians Afghans Mughals for over a thousand years including Kashmir it created a culture of weakness today we have lost majority of the Sikh philosophy which empowered people and the old Punjabi philosophy has crept back in and taken over most Punjabis including majority of Amritdhari Sikhs hence why Amritdharis have a hard time finding solutions to community problems cause with out knowing it they think their following Sikh philosophy but really their following the disempowering Punjabi philosophy THE SIKH PHILOSOPHY EMPOWERED WOMEN AND BELIEVED IN STRONG WOMEN RAISE STRONG CHILDREN LEADS TO A STRONG COMMUNITY THIS LED TO EMPOWERED WOMEN WHO WOULD CHARGE INTO THE BATTLE FIELD AND KILL ANY BARBARIAN OR HAVE THEIR CHILDREN CUT UP AND TURNED INTO NECKLASSES AND NOT BREAK A TEAR CAUSE OF THE MENTAL STRENGTH THEY HAD BUILT UP BY FOLLOWING THE SIKH PHILOSOPHY PUNJABI PHILOSOPHY IS RAISE SPOILED BOYS AND MAKE THE GIRLS DO THE HOUSE HOLD CHORES AND CLEAN UP AFTER THEIR BROTHERS WHICH LEADS TO MANY GIRLS WITH LOW SELF ESTEEM AND PUNJAB BATTLING ONE OF THE BIGGEST DRUG EPIDEMICS IN THE WORLD CAUSE THE BOYS HAVE BECOME ADDICTS CAUSE THEIR PARENTS PREFERED TO SPOIL THEM RATHER THEN RAISE THEM TO BE MEN I know Sikh girls who grew up in families that are not religious at all and some that are religious and have an extremely strong bond with their parents and have fathers that empower them these girls grow up and aren't in the clubs drinking or needing a boyfriend or anything and are confident and strong and would never do anything to harm their father and will even agree to arranged marriage long as the guy is their fathers choice cause they have a conviction their father can pick the best man for them I know Sikh girls who grew up in families that are not religious at all and some that are super religious and grow up with low self esteem, they love their parents but aren't empowered by their parents an parents don't do a good job building their confidence. The fathers fail to build a strong bond with the girls and fail to build their daughters self esteem daughters grow up and look for male attention get drunk wear mini skirts to clubs and make out with different guys date different men and some go and date outside the community and marry outside the community TOP CAUSES OF SIKH GIRLS LEAVING THE COMMUNITY OR DATING OUTSIDE THE COMMUNITY TILL ITS TIME TO GET MARRIED IS -a lot of girls are raised as second class citizens in the house hold and the brothers are spoiled -fathers fail to teach their daughters confidence. When I took sociology we learned the huge role a father plays in a daughters life a father plays the largest role in a girl developing confidence self esteem and morals. Their are some girls who are very close with their fathers but the father fails to teach them to be confident and build that confidence or about proper good morals. Father figures or a strong male figure with a close bond with the daughter or the girl dictates what type of confidence that girl will grow up with as well as morals Sikh girls with strong male figures like fathers tend to have great morals and tend to be extremely confident Sikh girls with weak male figures like fathers who favors the boy over the girl tend to have weak morals hence why they end up having relationships and pre marital sex and dating outside the community and also have low confidence which leads to mental weakness which opens the door for a Muslim to come and groom the girl or a male from the Sikh community or another community to use the girl for sex and then dump her What do you believe are other reasons for Sikh girls leaving the Sikh community??
  7. I wanted to know why Guru Tegh Bahadur became a Shaheed for Hindus?
  8. I was researching for a university essay and came across this rather interesting blog piece. It's a great deconstructive take on the growth of major religions. Would be interested to see what everyone else thinks. http://ramblingsofasikh.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/sikhism-recent-and-modern-phenomenon.html
  9. The reason I am asking this is because in that much time for other religions they got so much done. Christianity got Europe; Islam in 500 years got Arabia. Bhudhism in 500 years was very well spread out into southeastern Asia and Japan. So if these religions got so much in 500 years, why have we failed as followers of the highest Guru to even get outside of Punjab? Our Gurus aren't lower than these are other men!
  10. I was recently wandering while doing ardas -hoping waheguru ji will help in this world with many things. But then out of no where I just thought to myself that if I want to attain something in this world then it will come through Rudi sidhi powers( which guru ji prohibits us from using, as it inhibits our spirtality) - is that true?? So my question is when doing ardas for asking prayers to be ansawered are we in anyway using ridi sidi powers or will waheguru ji helps attain what we want without us using our powers (through the blessing of waheguru ji blesses us with) - I ask this because I don't want to lose my waheguru ji and the level of spirituality I have attained but I still want some of my prayers answered.

    Going To A Party?!

My best friend for the whole of high school is having a sweet 16th party. I know that they will be drinking and smoking weed which I know will ring alarm bells in our heads. But it wont be the same if I dont go. So should I go but not do anything bad and be the 'designated driver'. Its his special day but I really dont want to get mixed in with the wrong crowd. What should I do sangat ? Please help
  12. I recently saw the trailer for this film and was saddened, especially seeing that Sikhs possess no viable film industry. http://www.flicks.co.nz/movie/the-dead-lands/ Ironically if we do ever have a historic Sikh film will it have exacerbated stunts like this:? I am sure that somewhere along the line the Punjab film industry grew confused between culture (Punjabi) and history (not balle balle).
  13. My father-in-law passed in a tragic accident involving an 18-wheeler. He was dropping passenger(s) off at Newark airport when he slid on black ice from a previous sleet/snow storm. After the car came to a stop, my father in law checked on the passengers to make sure everyone was okay. After that he proceeded to exit the vehicle to put proper flags, caution lights, etc. out to warn any oncoming traffic. Keep in mind he lost control on an exit ramp leading to the airport. Within minutes, an 18-wheeler came barreling up and around the ramp. Losing control because of speed and other unknown reasons, the truck spun out of control. After the sheriffs arrived to the scene and began to check on everyone involved in the accident, they realized the driver (my father in law) was missing. An officer then went to investigate the surroundings in search of my Parminder. A bit later, he was discovered under the truck. He was covered in snow. After removing the snow, it was obvious he passed of blunt force trauma to the head, neck and body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. My father in law loved to give. He would give you the turban off of his head, the shirt off of his back or the very last dollar in his pocket. He was very involved in the Sikh community here in NYC and loved to make a difference. He loved everyone he met and never stopped laughing. He helped anyone and everyone he possibly could. 14. I recently read a debate regarding the so-called status of Bhagat Ravidass as the Guru of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. This is sheer fallacy in light of certain facts which I have incorporated into this article. http://tisarpanth.blogspot.co.nz/2014/09/the-elephant-in-room-i.html?view=magazine I don't believe that the Bhagats actually met the Gurus, or all of the Bhagats met the Gurus. I base my assertion on the fact that no substantive chronology of any Bhagat can be established. Other than that, each to his own but Sikhs would do well to remember that the claim, 'all the writings of the Bhagats are in the AGGS,' is extremely exacerbated. There are certain hymns of Bhagat Ravidass, seeing the debate, which are not housed in the AGGS due to their pantheistic content.
  15. WJKK WJKF, I am 14 years old, trying to become a real Sikh. I just wanted to know how other Gursikhs spend their day on Sikhi, such as the time they wake up and the banis they do and when they sleep and everything that happens in your day. I just wanted to see if I can model it. Please also provide the times, so that I know how much time it takes for each part of the schedule. Bul Chuk Maaf Kareo. Thank you very much.
  16. WJKK WJKF, I want to become a granthi and serve my guru but I don't know how to. I don't read fluent gurmukhi, sometimes skip nitnem, and don't know a lot of gurbani. I live in US and don't have kesh. I don't know kirtan. I don't go to any gurudwara Punjabi school and I cant go. What can I do to become one. Please help me. I really need it.
  17. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Kee Fateh, Sorry for any of my mistakes. I am only 14 years old and I hear a lot about how simran is important and it helps us attain waheguru. But I don't know how to do it. Whenever I hear a katha, they always explain why we should do it, not how ot do it. Please tell me what I need to do. I tried listening many times to Bhai Harjinder Singh Ji Sri Nagar Wale's Waheguru jaap kirtan because I like it but the problem is that after doing it, I don't feel anything. I don't even get that feeling like I did something. Please help me. Thank you very much.
  18. Hello, I wanted to ask how exactly does Nitnem change you? I used to feel something when I did paht, but now I don't feel like I have that experience anymore, I'm feeling discouraged.
  19. Listening to the path is good. If you read it, I feel it is the best to read it in Gurmukhi. If you dont know Gurmukhi, you may start learning it and in the meantime (whatever time it takes- months, years) listen to the path. The most important thing is patience (hukam rjai chalna). Kam,Krodh etc are said to be mahabali (extremely strong) in Gurbani, so It will take time before you can win them over and it takes even more time to attain real happiness. But serving the Guru and reading/listening bani is happiness in itself! andd atleast the things wont get worse if you are doing some effort. Bhagat Farid hung himself upside-down in a well for 12 years before he could attain God! Not that we need such penance, but my point is that it is a difficult path and we need to have patience. Naam,Seva and accepting God's sweet will (Bhana) will make it easy and I am sure it is worth it! On a personal note - I also struggle to wake up at Amritvela, succumb to Kaam, krodh some times and get frustrated, may the sangat do Ardaas for us and hopefully we will see through our journey to destination some day!
  20. A lot of Sikh parents rather then take accountability and say their child messed up will rather play victim and blame the friends To many Sikhs play the victim card rather then take accountability for different situations in their life sikhi teaches people to be mentally strong but so many Sikhs choose to be mentally weak their are Sikhs who play the victim card and choose to be a product of their environment their are Sikhs who are mentally strong and are accountable and have their environment be a by product of them sikhi teaches accountability Punjabi culture teaches to feel like a victim for example Punjab drug problem I believe drugs should be legal and a citizen has the right to choose what they want to do with their bodies cause drugs are available does not mean everyone is just going to start doing drugs alcohol is available on street corners in the west yet many Sikhs Mormons and others still don't drink cause they choose not to drink if heroin became legal would you run out and by and inject heroin If some Sikhs started being accountable they would wake up and realise that this anti Sikh pro Punjabi culture of spoiling boys and neglecting girls is a root cause to so many problems In Punjab ppl are driven more by Punjabi culture which is ego materialism and status over sikhi teachings of building strong character integrity and morals which leads to many Punjabis saying hey my son doesn't have to work look at me im so rich my son doesn't need to work I got him a bike and throw weddings they can't afford and drive themselves into debt to boost their ego and higher biharis to work rather then let their children work to boost their ego most spoiled children with no responsibilities do screw up their lives In a democracy its up to the people to make it work otherwise they shall lose it like Thomas Jefferson said Sikhs vote in corrupt po0liticians so Sikhs shouldn't be playing the victim card when it comes to corrupt govts like badal in a free market system its up to individuals to create businesses and jobs Punjab is the largest consumer state in india driven by materialism an ego yet fall behind when it comes to starting businesses and producing productws out side of farming also Punjab was the richest state in india for so many decades while other states struggled with massive poverty In other states like Gujarat the youth are getting educated and starting businesses and creating jobs and growing the economy while in Punjab Sikhs play victim spoil their kids an blame others for their spoiled childs drug addiction an failure in school green revolution made Punjab the richest state in india and now Punjab is falling behind as poorer states catch up and are starting to surpass punjab while Punjab is becoming drug addicted
  21. I was asking this question because I heard of a great sant named Bhai Manj who after becoming a Sikh suffered through a lot of problems, but still kept his Sikhi as part of him, Guru Arjun Dev Ji warned Bhai Manj of following this path but he still followed the Guru. Next Bhai Manj falls into a pit, and his(Guru Arjun Dev Ji) Hukam was that the wood not fall, Bhai Manj kept the wood high, and when he was rescued Guru Arjun Dev Ji asked what has being Sikh given you and Bhai Manj replied that he had received the gift of NAAM through the GURU. So this Sakhi goes to prove something very important that modern Sikhs are diluted to hear"All religions aren't equal" if you have something to add, please do.
  22. I almost have a six pack now but I am now thinking what was the point all this time? To impress the females? I am a bit confused now...

So i am new to sikh politics I use to hear about khalistan only at gurdwaras but didn't understand what khalistan was and never learned much about operation bluestar I was wondering if its ok for me to ask sangat a few questions so I may have a better understanding of the subject regards to operation bluestar why did the indian govt attack the Sikh holy shrine on a Sikh holiday when their would be a maximum amount of civilians in Punjab why aren't pro sikhi politicans being voted in are most of the people who say they stand for sikhi in Punjab corrupted? Would a pro Sikh party being democratically elected work in Punjab or is Khalistan a must
