  1. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Recently I have been getting asked by Naamdharis to show where the Guru ordered that there should be no more Gurus after Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. I told them how the Guru clearly said: "Sabh Sikhan ko hukam hai, Guru maneyo Granth", but they want authentic writings and proof, even though this is a basic accepted fact in the Khalsa Panth. The Naamdharis also ask to show where Gurbani says Sikhs cant have human Gurus after SGGSJ. One who calls himself a Sikh of the Guru the True Guru shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord's Name. Upon arising early in the morning, he is to bathe, and cleanse himself in the pool of nectar. Following the Instructions of the Guru, he is to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. All sins, misdeeds and negativity shall be erased. Then, at the rising of the sun, he is to sing Gurbani; whether sitting down or standing up, he is to meditate on the Lord's Name. One who meditates on my Lord, Har, Har, with every breath and every morsel of food - that GurSikh becomes pleasing to the Guru's Mind. That person, unto whom my Lord and Master is kind and compassionate - upon that GurSikh, the Guru's Teachings are bestowed. Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of that GurSikh, who himself chants the Naam, and inspires others to chant it. ||2|| The definition of a "Sikh" in Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is very universal and can be applied by anyone regardless of which faith they were born into. This definition is also "orthopraxic" as its defined by the active practice, rather than "belief". The SGGSJ doesn't litterally state that its the last Guru for Sikhs, and Namdharis are using this as a loophole. So my question to the Sangat is how do we counter these Naamdhari arguments? If you have any sources on the Guru ordering SGGSJ as the last Guru please send it.

    Mr

Hello, I am currently working on a thesis project for my final year in my architecture course which involves researching a specific character in relation to the Tay River, in this case it is Duleep Singh, who is very much a character who has adopted both his traditional values and those he developed during his stay in the United Kingdom, and more specifically, Scotland. The term "hybrid identity" comes to mind, and I a very much interested in learning more about the Sikh community in Scotland. Are there any rituals, practices, or outlooks you may have that may perhaps contrast or differ from those of Sikhs in other parts of the world? What are some of the issues (if any) of practicing Sikhism in Scotland? What are your thought on Maharaja Duleep Singh? I hope I have asked my questions as sensitively as possible, I hope nothing I have asked or stated has come off as offensive as that is the last of my intentions.

    JAGTAR SINGH FreeJaggi

Gurfateh ji I don't feel like we're doing enough for Jaggi. Petitioning and protesting isn't getting us anywhere. The protest in London could hardly be called a protest for a start. 400 people turn up. 1-2 cops. What sort of a protest is that when the police just let you get on with it, don't even bother showing up. Lol it's a joke. They know we're too complaisant. Everyone's contacting their MPs, only a handful have made any sort of statement... 3? 5 max? They just don't give a monkeys. Britain's relationship with india is way too important. Now more than ever post brexit. They won't do shtt to jeopardise it. It's all about trade deals. It was in 84, it still is now. We need to wake the F up. So my question is, what can we do?! We need to up the ante. "Apan hathi apna, apay he kaaj savariye". With our own hands let us resolve our own affairs. Waheguruji nothing is being done. Our brothers rights are nonexistent. Heck the British high commission representives failed to show up to the second hearing. No one's batting an eyelid in the gov. I'm fed up with petitions. I'm fed up with begging. I'm fed up with "protests"/ gatherings. Back in the day we courted arrests. Everyone knew something was going down. It showed we meant business and were willing to put everything on the line to get what we wanted. What happened to our anakh? Our sovereign mentality?! Such a sad state of affairs. I'm done begging. I'm doing complying. Enough is enough. Hadn't got us anywhere. And if you're scared of media reports IDGAF. There's no such thing as bad publicity. Would you sit back and write a letter to your MP if your brother mother sister was in jaggis shoes? No. So wake up. Pul chuk muaf ji.
  5. I remember a video went viral in 2010 or something in which an angry Dalit Buddhist/Sikh lady was seen giving angry speech in a funny punjabi accent, complaining about how Sikhism was hijacked by the same baahmanwaad that it aimed to eradicate. and how Sikhism was not really separate ideologically from Buddhism. She was perhaps a neo-buddhist and Ambedkar follower named Kamlesh Ahir. Kamlesh Ahir's speech was mostly about woes of so-called low castes being denied active participation in indian religions. And how sikh gurus tried to revive Buddhas ideals of casteless society equal for all, but that Sikhism was failed by Sikhs themselves. I agree with her only partly! In this video, the same lady (in funny frantic voice) is heard complaining about how Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar wanted to convert to sikhi along with his 5 million followers but was let down by Jatt-dominated Akalis who feared losing control of harmandar sahib. So as a result Ambedkar ji had to convert to Buddhism along with his followers and they also burnt manusmriti , a hindu text which is still celebrated by buddhists in india as "manusmriti dahan diwas". The lady also complained about how Sikhs don't want chamaars, Ravidasias , Valmiks and other downtrodden along with them , and as a consequent Sikhi is not really spread . (Khalsa college of mumbai of which I myself am an alumni is a really cool college founded by Babasaheb Ambedkar himself). So I will give her credit. Anyways, coming to point , Is Sikhi really totally dominated by Jatts , esp when it comes to filling top clergical and administrative posts in SGPC gurudwaras ?? If so , its a really shame for our panth. We need to introspect deeply. We feel delighted at sight of white/black sikhs , then why we should feel hesitation to accept downtrodden low-castes of india who will benefit from sikhi the most. You can hear her here (again I don't agree with her at times , and she sound really bullsshit sometimes, but she does make a point about casteism in sikhi) :

  7. In my personal experience , as far as I have seen, sikh men who marry hindu women end up ruining sikhi in their families , as the son ends up being either a mona or sardar with trimmed beard OR even if he's a "gursikh" , he will mix vedic stuff with sikhi and that leads to often underestimated DIRE consequences for the panth as well ! As a child gets its sanskaar from a mother's womb, a hindu mother will invariably give birth to a hindu son, even if he's you know a turbaned guy. Notable examples include harbhajan singh puri , alias , yogi bhajan . We all know the mess he has created for us to clean . I would never ever marry a hindu woman if i had to marry . I would rather marry a muslee (funny how these are the ones stigmatized by the sikh community worldwide while the hindus get an open hand among sikhs) What is this cult created by yogi bhajan . Was he a hindutva guy .

    Marriage woes

Wjjkk wjkf I sometimes wonder if marriage, kids and everything we have been told is a lie. I ended up getting an arranged marriage and it has been a disaster. I know everything is hukam. I had a very happy life and really encourage the Sangat, marry someone who has the same spiritual background as you. To parents, don't pressure your children.
  9. What is the Sikh petspective on life beyond earth. Does it mention the universe and othe planets?
  10. I had put up a support post about an abusive family , which included the women and man being abusive (physically, emotionally and mentally). Thankfully, God me out of the abuse and now I have the gift of doing bani. A few people had asked me for an inkling about how the family were so as not to take a rishta to them. The man is still unmarried. I did not want to gossip but at the same time I didn't want NOT to warn other people. It's been a while now so I'm putting this up just as a warning to other people. DO NOT confront these people. God will deal with them when the time comes I think of all the abuse I suffered, the most painful was complete indifference to Guru Gobind Singh Ji's great sacrifices and the Sahibzaade. I cannot understand how a family that puts up a pretense of culture and self righteousness sees nothing wrong with insulting the Gurus. I was constantly demeaned for praying and he would laugh at the Guru's and say how backwards they were compared to "science". The family lives in derby. The man has 3 sisters of which one is divorced and the other 2 are struggling to stay married. He runs a shop. The mother goes to the Gurdwara and puts up a pretense of being religious. She is the most toxic and a hypocrite. Do not take any rishte to them, they are abusive and a woman's life will get ruined. The mother and sisters are extremely jealous and underachievers (all live in ghettos) so they put down others. The man talks to women on facebook and is secretive (he covers up his tracks) I will ask the mods to delete this post after a while, simply because I don't want any negativity around me anymore or this family to trouble me . Mods please acknowledge
  11. Where in America are there Sikh areas, if any? There's Surrey in Canada which I know about.
  12. Right now britian is in utter turmoil. It is greatly divided by race and religion. White people hate muslims and vice versa. But there is a great opportunity on the horizen for Sikhs to spread our faith in the UK through moral methods. At the moment Sikhs generally have a good image. We are seen as peacefull and respectfull people not like many muslims who are considered scum by many whites. The key question is how do we do it? We should have a tons more followers then we do at the moment as Sikhism is a very attractive and intellectual faith. There are no absurdities in there like many other faiths have. I was thinking one idea is to do door to door knocking similar to jehovas wittnesses. This will kill two birds with one stone. We can educate people that we are not Muslims aswell as telling them about our faith at the same time. Areas to do this need to be chosen with research and know how of the ethnic make up of the locations. This needs to be done by well spoken and learned Sikhs. They need to have the gift of the gab. Its a bit like a sales men . you have to be good at tallking and selling. but you wont be selling anything. Just educating people about our beliefs. Do non Sikhs feel more welcome at a mosque then a gurdwara. Many eat langar then just leave. Why dont we make the effort to have a chat with them next time we see one in the Gurdwara. Lets look at the muslim tactics. They go for weak and vulnerable people who are easily swayed by some sweet words. Why dont we have events were non muslims can come and have info on Sikhi. Ie at the gurdwara. Or is the gurdara just a place were old aunties can give everyone dirty looks at gossip?
  13. Ravi Singh, of Khalsa Aid, is someone who I immensely look up to, and I'm sure many others do as well. He is the embodiment of a true Gurmukh who does not preach Sikhi, but practices it. He is a human being that sees no religion/caste/creed and through Khalsa Aid has done great humanitarian work. My question to our community on here is this, how can Ravi Singh be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize? I know this man deserves it, but how can we as a community get him that nomination? Any ideas, any suggestions? Jason Kenney, Canada's previous Minister of National Defence, a position currently occupied by Harjit Sajjan, has voiced similar sentiment as well:
  14. WJKK WJKF Can anyone shed light on the truth about the relationship between that clown gurmeet jhoota sauda and Shaheed Gurjant Singh Rajastani from the KCF? I have heard various stories, however any additional info would be appreciated.
  15. Jasleen Josan, the first Sikh women in the world to undertake a Mars mission I think this is a great achievement, and is ideally great exposure for our community on the global stage. We need more people like her (not necessarily all going to Mars ), but branching out into other professional fields. Thoughts?

    Life is getting too hard

Wjkk wjkf I need some.advise as I am stressed out day and night and have chest pains because of this. I do path or listen to it as I work long hours so it is hard sometimes I end up listening or nothing at all in a day. When I went high school I had a bad and terrible time and every single day I was bullied it's been about 10 years since I left and I cannot stop thinking about how they have bullied me and all their faces I do as much path as I could do but since I work it can be really hard. Soon end up sometime just chanting waheguru in my head or sometimes nothing in a day. I tend to meet them bullies and want to know why it may sound weird but I don't want to remember a single thing from high school please help me by giving suggestions.
  17. The Path to a Sikh Renaissance I feel that we are in a dire need of a Sikh Renaissance, where Sikhs will be able to contribute to the world at their zenith. I believe we were heading to that point during Maharaja Ranjit's time but it dwindled from there on. I think that we as a community need a re-emergence, and realizing it and bringing it into reality should be our main and only priority for now. Hearing and seeing the Sikh youth in Punjab being gripped by drugs, and in certain parts of the Western world becoming unmotivated, and failing in life is disheartening to see. I think through the following steps, we can emerge as a powerful force, however it will take extreme strife. Here is what I think is needed: Sikhs need to spiritually reconnect with Sikhi Become entrepreneurial by creating new industries or by taking control of existing ones, as a means of gaining great economic resource which can then be channeled to the Sikh cause, think Bill Gates & Mark Zuckerberg type of entrepreneurial success and economic gain Put the Khalistan movement on the back burner for now, as it is only damaging and polarizing the community, and instead build ourselves up to a formidable level where we have a respected global image and can command power; and then bring back the movement through calculated ways and not martyrdom Refocus on being a Sikh, and not a Sikh-Hindu, and pledge allegiance to the Sikh cause by being a united community - agreeing on our future goals, this can only be done by having more parchariks like Jugraj Singh, and supporting them through economic resources which in itself can only be provided by entrepreneurial Sikhs mentioned in my second bullet point Having to set milestones and future goals such as Sikhs winning Nobel Prizes, Oscars, Pulitzer Prizes and etc. Encouragement for meaningful learning and education ( this is the need of the moment, why is it that most of the Sikh youth hates pursuing education, especially Sikhs from Punjab?); we need more Sikhs aiming for the Rhodes Scholarship Branch out into more reputable fields/industries - i.e. Science, Engineering, Medicine, Politics, Academia, Arts/Media, Technology, Business (this honestly is the crux of the Renaissance and I can see some of it already taking place in the Western world); I say this because most Sikhs join the Indian Army and most go for soldier as an occupation, but we need to step back and stop putting our lives on the line and instead need to focus on educating and securing our community through personal development Evolve and be more open - accept Sehajdari, Mona Sikhs, 3HO Sikhs, Sikh sects as a part of the community, the more the merrier, however gradually, with love, help them correct their ways Immigrate from Punjab to the Western world (however through legal means and with the intent of gaining meaningful education, i.e. studying at esteemed institutions in America/England/Canada and not some merit-less community colleges, and gaining reputable jobs), as this will allow Sikhs more global exposure and opportunity Increase our numbers through procreating more children or adopting children and raising them into the Sikh faith, and marrying out (i.e. bring spouses from other faiths/ethnicities into the Sikh fold through reason and willingness, not force like love jihad) Be clear in our focus, respect other communities, but do not advocate their causes (such as the Sikh Coalition standing up for Muslims and Hindus, this is not benefiting us) Reap the benefits of the system, and do not fight it or challenge it for the meantime, however retain allegiance to the Sikh cause (make use of the IITs in India, and Medical Colleges, and the student scholarships that send worthy students to Ivy Leagues); I think the Parsis have been most successful in this Become role models, and in turn inspire Sikh youth, and establish an encouraging network (often times the Sikhs that do attain success, are extremely averse against helping other Sikhs - this is wrong, as we need to create a community that encourages and supports individual success such as the Jewish people) Stop riding the coattails of our ancestors, and instead create new sagas of success in the present-day Uphold the warrior spirit, but put on a thinking cap so that communal decisions can turn out to be effective ones, and not ones that are conducted in the heat of the moment, which ultimately lead to little gain and more damage Revise Judeo-Christian influenced English translations of the GGS and translate the GGS into other major languages (Arabic, Russian, Chinese, French, Spanish) and Indo-Aryan languages (Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Marwari/Rajasthani, Bihari, Nepali) to make Sikhism more accessible and understandable for those interested Removal of caste altogether (it has no place in Sikhism, and any pride on ones caste should be absolutely condemned and derided - more Singh/Kaur surnames, zero gotras, let's get out of this tribal thinking) Although I may have repeated myself a few times, this is what I came up with at the moment. Feel free to criticize, discuss and contribute your thoughts about improving the Sikh community. Apologies in advance, if I've offended anyone.

  19. A Sikh lady got into scuffle with Korean Christian ladies who were being disrespectful and trying to convert Sikhs at our Harmandar Sahib in Amritsar. Some people tried to malign the Sikh lady saying she was a Hindu convert and trying to pitch the Sikhs against Christians in Punjab. But now the Christian missionaries are going live themselves on their FBs in Harmandar Sahib. When will Sikhs finally wake up? Only a few Sikh youth were going to convert to Christianity in the late 19th century and it triggered the biggest revival in our faith in the form of the Singh Sabha movement and today lacs have become Christian and we're still sleeping.
  20. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Sangat ji, I have been considering moving away from the UK. Mainly just had enough of the place. I am alone. No family at all nor am I married. I am not educated either. Has anyone got any experience on the emmigration process for someone in the UK wanting to move to Canada who may be or has been in a similar situation as myself? I was there this time last year and saw that there is a lot of Sangat there. It's clean, peaceful and generally seems like a great move especially for someone that just wants to get up and leave everything in the UK behind. I had the chance to speak to someone there who has moved from London and is working in banking/finance but he actually married a Canadian Singhni and was under 30 years of age when he applied for his PR (permanent residence) so it was a little easier for him. Any ideas, feedback, information or suggestions would be much appreciated. Akaal!
  21. Hi, Im looking at two names but I'm unsure if they're proper sikh names as different websites say different things. What are your views? Ashreet for a boy Aarya/Aria for a girl Thoughts? Thanks in advance!
  22. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Is there a Maryada for Handwriting Gurbani?
  23. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Found this article, and I do think it relates to some things going on among Sikhs today. As much as 70% of Thailand Sikhs have Non-Sikh names there. http://m.timesofindia.com/city/chandigarh/sikhs-adopt-thai-names-to-gel-with-local-populace-in-thailand/articleshow/59994438.cms
  24. Though Mahatma Gandhi start quit India movement in 1942, he was not pioneer for starting quit India Movement. Pioneer was Baba Ram Singh kuka Namdhari, who started social boycott and all types of boycott of foreign products and services. Baba Ram Singh started nonviolent as well as armed struggle by making relations with Russia, Nepal. He openly all of the, namdharis said Quit India for that purpose there was a slogan sung in Punjabi “Goreyo desh shad deyo raj khalse karna” “Chavni kardeyo khali Khalse ne Bhang beejni”. Unfortunately Baba Ram Singh’s decedents and other followers were not Prime Minister like Nehru and they were not well educated. Therefore, Baba Ram singh have not been promoted in media as promoted was Mahatma Gandhi. Actually there was no media in 19th century, like in 20th century to promote this freedom cause of Namdhari Baba Ram Singh.
