It may be recalled that in a bid to stop the misuse of donations of the Sikh Sangat, he opposed appointment of chief secretary Harcharan Singh who is being paid Rs 3 lakh monthly. He opposed the move as per the rules of the Gurdwara Act. In his transfer letter, SGPC alleged that he has revolted against the institution and broken it’s discipline. His services at Sri Darbar Sahib had already been terminated after the appointment of chief secretary. On Friday, the a formal announcement was then made. It is noteworthy that Bhai Wadala is very popular amongst Sikh masses due to his unique way of singing Gurbani Kirtan. Sikh Sangat enjoys his sweet voice while his jatha is performing kirtan. He is also considered as an activist with Panthik spirit and working in tandem with the Sikh way.

Is it available online also i need to know 1 how many gurdwaras are under there control 2 how many parcharks the sgpc have working for them 3 how many schools are under there control 4 how many religious training schools they have/ how many parcharks they train each year 5. how many people does sgpc employ im trying to find out how much money they take in and what they spend it on. The SGPC with 100 parcharaks went to various villages and over 1,000 schools across Punjab to identify Sikh youths who’ve cut their hair and to counsel and encourage them to come back to Sikhi. The SGPC’s Dharam Parchar Committee head Jagdev Singh was quoted in a newspaper saying, “We go to schools, identify Sikh students who have cut their hair, separate them for a lecture, and tell them that being Sikh will bring them more respect in society. We also pick two students, one with a turban and another without, and give a spot demo on how wearing a turban increases height and makes them more handsome. Students are also told that this is a way to stay healthy as going to the hairdresser can give them infectious diseases that spread through scissors.” The SGPC says they have received a commitment by 14,000 youth to “never go patit again”. Reportedly, the students will be honored during the celebrations of the 350th day of the founding of Sri Anandpur Sahib Ji. “The first phase of the drive is approaching the end. As many as 14,000 students signed the undertaking to grow their hair and follow the tenets of Sikhism. SGPC may soon start another leg of the drive,” said Balwinder Singh Jaura Singha, secretary of the Dharam Parchar Committee. The education department responded to the efforts of the SGPC, “This hasn’t come to my notice,” said District Education Officer (Secondary Education) Satinderbir Singh. “If SGPC is only asking Sikh students to start following the tenets of their religion, it is just a kind of moral education, but if the preachers are asking students of other religions to start following Sikhism, that is wrong. Ideally, however, such an exercise should not be held in schools. Schools are secular in nature.”

The Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhik Committee (SGPC) has condemned the release and any approvals given to the movie. SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said the committee has discarded the film. Nevertheless, if the film is released it will have to suffer damage. Talking about the message at the beginning of the film’s trailer posted over YouTube, “With the support of the Akal Takht Sahib and Blasings (Akal Takht, with the support and blessing),” Makkar objected to it and said that SGPC has already clarified that movie script of any movie based on Sikh religion has to be first submitted for clearance. He further stated that Sikh Gurus or their family members can not be depicted in the film but since the movie depicts the characters of Guru Nanak, though in graphic form and also his family members, so SGPC wont approve this movie. It is to be noticed here that a Sikh youth body named Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP) has already announced to oppose upcoming movie “Nanak Shah Fakir”. Besides SYP, Sikh community in Australia has also condemned the movie and launched a petition to Australian Censor Board to ban the movie release.

These organisations have rejected the new calendar and expressed their resentment over the changes made in the NanakShahi Calendar. With the Sikh high priests releasing a calendar on a new pattern for the Sikh New Year, though in the guise of Nanakshahi calendar, it is virtually the end of the road for the Nanakshahi calendar that was introduced in 2003 and was later amended in 2010. Set to cause more confusion over dates of certain events and missing out on important days of other religions, the special one-year edition of Nanakshahi Calendar (NC) 2015-16 (Samwat 547) was released by Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh on Saturday. A quick look at the new calendar 2015-16 gives the impression that it is a hurried job as it mentions only 79 occasions against the 126 in NC 2014-15. The calendar is said to have been prepared on the basis of Gurbani and historic sources by an 11-member committee constituted by SGPC. The new calendar has listed the death anniversaries of Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Harjinder Singh Jinda and that of Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. It also gives the dates of the deaths of Bhai Satwant Singh and Bhai Kehar Singh but do not mention that of Beant Singh. The new one also lists Independence Day and Republic Day. The martyrdom anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev was observed on June 1 in NC 2014-15, but falls on May 22 as per the new one and on June 16 according to the original NC. Similarly, the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh was given as December 28 in the previous NC, but has been fixed as January 16 in the new calendar; it was January 5 as per the Nanakshahi calendar. The new calendar has also missed out Sikh religious days like Chotta Ghallughara, Saka Paonta Sahib, Morcha Guru Ka Bagh, Sarhind Fateh Diwas and birth anniversary of Bhagat Ravi Das After its release, the Akal Takht jathedar clarified that the calendar would be applicable for the current year only. Expecting protest from those backing the Pal Singh Purewal-authored NC, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) officials changed the venue of its release at the eleventh hour from Gurdwara Manji Sahib Diwan Hall to the Akal Takht secretariat. According to The Tribune News, American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) coordinator Dr Pritpal Singh said, “We reject the committee constituted by the Sikh clergy to resolve the calendar row and the calendar released by the SGPC.” He said the AGPC had been following the original Nanakshahi calendar since 2003 and would continue to do so in future. He said their apprehensions regarding the revival of Bikrami calendar have come true with the fresh SGPC move. He urged the Akal Takht Jathedar not to play with Sikh sentiments. The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) also stated that it would stick to the original Nanakshahi calendar. PSGPC general secretary Gopal Singh Chawla, said, “The PSGPC led by its president Sham Singh released the original Nanakshahi calendar for the New Year on Saturday.” He said they would continue to follow it in future as it symbolised the distinct identity of Sikhs. Gulbarg Singh of the Global Sikh Council (GSC) also rejected efforts by “any local organisation, especially the one under the control of a politician, to decide on global Panthic matters”. “Therefore, any decision, made by any committee, formed by the SGPC by exploiting the name of Akal Takht, to sabotage Nanakshahi calendar, the symbol of Khalsa Panth’s sovereignty, will not be acceptable,” he said. Referring to the Sikh Gurdwara Act, he said the SGPC’s responsibility and authority was limited to the management of historic Sikh shrines in Punjab and others under its control. “Under the Act, no jathedar of any shrine, including Akal Takht, has been assigned any authority to act as a spokesperson for the Sarbat Khalsa, the Khalsa Panth.” He felt it was high time for the Sarbat Khalsa to become active and discharge its duties independent of any outside influences, political or otherwise. The National Sikh Council of Australia Inc, which is a member of the GSC, also said the SGPC’s authority was limited to Punjab and Haryana only and not all Sikhs in the world. The council said,“The SGPC represents gurdwaras in Punjab and Haryana only, but most of the simple-minded diaspora Sikhs are under the impression that the SGPC is the controlling body of all Sikhs in the world, which is not true. The GSC should not follow the SGPC, rather the SGPC should follow the GSC,” it stated in a letter written to Gulbarg Singh of the GSC. The 15 member committee elected 5 members and Avtar Makkar was named as head of the management committee unanimously. The SGPC enjoys control over majority of Gurdwaras in Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pardesh. Now with the control of Takht Sri Patna Sahib, it can make decisions regarding 4 of the 5 takhts. The fifth takht, Sri Hazoor Sahib, is run independently of SGPC control. SGPC President was congratulated by DSGMC President Manjit Singh GK. Some scholars have hinted that Makkar had been made head at Takht Sri Patna Sahib to empty the president’s position at SGPC headquarters in Sri Amritsar. Revive Nanakshahi calendar: Sikh bodies Perneet Singh Tribune News Service Amritsar, November 19 The Sikh clergys decision to change the date for celebrating Guru Gobind Singhs birth anniversary from December 28 to January 7 has revived the Nanakshahi calendar row. Some organisations have questioned the move while others have renewed the demand for reverting to the original Nanakshahi calendar. Bibi Kiranjot Kaur, SGPC member, said it was time that the controversy was resolved once and for all. The community must decide whether it wants to follow the Bikrami calendar or the original Nanakshahi calendar. You cannot hold deliberations every year to decide Gurpurb dates, she said. Bibi Kiranjot said the two-member panel comprising SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar and Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa had ignored technical aspects while amending the original Nanakshahi calendar. Former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti said the matter should be reconsidered. He said if there were any shortcomings in the original Nanakshahi calendar, these should be removed with the help of Sikh intellectuals. They appealed to the Jathedar to revert to the original calendar to end divisions within the Panth and not become a part of SAD's "divisive" politics. However, both of them didn't rule out the possibility of further amendments to the Nanakshahi calendar. Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said, "We would certainly like this confusion to end so that we don't have to change Gurpurb dates in future. We have also kept a provision for making further amendments." He, however, said they had received no suggestions till now. He also made it clear that the two-member panel comprising SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar and Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa, which was constituted for making amendments to the calendar a few years ago, would have to take the initiative, if any changes were to be made. Makkar threw the ball in Akal Takht's court saying "whatever Akal Takht decides on the issue will be acceptable to us. We have always acknowledged the supremacy of Akal Takht." On the other hand, the newly constituted team of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) is contemplating to hold a "World Sikh Convention" at Nankana Sahib to deliberate on the issue. Talking to The Tribune on the phone from Pakistan, PSGPC member Gopal Singh said they were to hold the convention alongside Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations early this month, but could not do so because some key Sikh leaders from Indian and Germany could not reach Pakistan due to visa issues. He said they would soon announce a fresh date for the convention. The Sikh leaders in Pakistan plan to extend an invitation to the Jathedars of all five Takhts, besides key Sikh organisations like the SGPC and the DSGMC for the convention. Former PSGPC president Bishen Singh said, "We may be having our differences with the SGPC over the calendar issue, but we would welcome them to air their views. We will also be sending invites to Sikh leaders in countries like the USA, the UK, Canada and even Afghanistan. We wish to bridge the divide in the community and work for the unity of Sikhs across the globe." The PSGPC follows the original Nanakshahi calendar, while the SGPC follows its amended version. The restoration of the forts is part of a year-long celebration of the 350th anniversary of Anandpur Sahib, which was founded on June 19. Gurdwara Lohgarh Labh Singh has been handed over the kar sewa of Anandgarh Sahib Fort, while Dilbagh Singh and Sulakhar Singh have taken up kar sewa of Taragarh Fort. Amrik Singh and Joginder Singh Dumeliwale will restore Holgarh and Lohgarh Forts, respectively. Fort Fatehgarh Sahib will be restored by Baba Bachan Singh from Delhi. SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said 15 nagar kirtan processions from different parts of the country would soon arrive in Anandpur Sahib.

SGPC involved in attack on Sri Harmander Sahib in 1984 Amritsar, Punjab: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandak Committee (SGPC) is the caretaker of all historical Sikh Gurudwaras in India except Delhi. Delhi Gurudwaras are being managed by Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee (DGMC). Both property management entities are being 100% funded by donations from the Sikh Community. Millions of dollars are being pumped into these organizations everyday and at the end of the day they are directly controlled by political parties of India. Majority of the time DGMC is in favor of Congress Party and SGPC is always in favor of Shiromani Akali Dal. Attack on Sri Harmander Sahib by Indira Gandhi led government was carried out 30 years ago. It is now revealed that Akali Dal and SGPC were kept in confidence and were 100% involved in meetings with Indira Gandhi’s office a few weeks before the attack on Sri Harimander Sahib. Akali Dal under Longowal, Badal and SGPC under Tohra chief never liked the idea of the popularity of Saint and Soldier Sant Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwale in the hearts of Sikh community. People started listening to Sant Jarnail Singh ji because of his effective and religious leadership. Sant Jarnail Singh ji’s presence at Sri Harmander Sahib was an eyesore for SGPC. They were under the pressure from Government agencies to take action against activists of Bhinderanwale. After murder of Bhai Sodhi, Sant Jarnail Singh ji Bhinderanwale came to know had enough of the true face and goals of SGPC. Seeing that, SGPC and Alkali Dal quickly gave permission and helped Indira Gandhi to attack Sri Harmander Sahib. In Onkar Singh Goraya book, Operation Bluestar and After – An eyewitness account, Brig (retd) Goraya, then a colonel with the 15 Infantry Division based in Amritsar that was involved in Operation Blue Star, telling insights into the meek conduct of Akali leaders trapped inside as he was put directly in-charge of pulling them safely out of the temple complex. He was given the room number from central govt where SGPC and Akali leaders were hiding. On the morning of June 6, 1984 Col Goraya was tasked to bring out the top Akali leaders trapped inside the complex and whose lives were in danger from the activists. When he reached the Guru Ram Das Sarai, inside the complex he found the dead and dying in different rooms. Some injured pilgrims begging for water and army men oblivious to the cries, as they concentrated on clearing the rooms of activists. Col Goraya found them in room no 8 and when he told Sant Harcharan Singh Longowal, Gurcharan Singh Tohra, Balwant Singh Ramoowalia and others that he had come to escort them to safety, “I heard a collective sigh of relief. They all got up instantly to follow me and there was no denial or hesitation.” Very different from an ‘eyewitness’ account given out by the Shiromani gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) later on, according to which the leaders Sant Longowal apparently asked an army major to shoot them, saying that they had no wish to live when the ‘the army’ had killed so many pilgrims, staff and volunteers. For the first time in 400 years the recital of gurbani was about to stop in the Golden Temple. As dusk fell on June 5, commandos dressed in jet-black dungarees slipped into the temple complex through the road between the serias and the Guru Ramdass langar building. They were able to bring back safely Akali Dal leaders like Harchand Singh Longowal and Gurcharan Singh Tohra along with their key aides living in the Teja Singh Samundari Hall, Guru Ramdass Serai and Guru Nanak Niwas. Seeing this, Taksali Singhs and other jathabandis took over Sri Akal Takht Sahib without any fight in 1986. SGPC workers and officers simply left their desks and offices during the Sarbat Khalsa gathering of 1986. Under false leadership of various jathabandis, sikh youth started getting eliminated by fake encounters and general public trust on jathabandis drastically fell in the negative levels. Only less than a dozen out of 170 SGPC members passed 10th grade. Majority of the SGPC members are involved in drinking and consuming narcotic products. Immediate family members of elected SGPC members are patits (shorn hair). Few of the SGPC members are even involved in drug trafficking and work directly with Punjab political party “Akali Dal (Badal)”. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has issued a stern warning to Cafe Press, a US-based designer company, which has etched sketches of the Golden Temple and of the Sikh gurus on some of its products including under garments. In a released issued here on Monday, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar has called upon the US-administration to take legal action against the company as it had hurt Sikh sentiments worldwide. This insulting act of the company cannot be forgiven or forgotten, he added. Sketches of the Golden Temple and of the Sikh gurus are also found on other products, including T-shirts and even slippers being manufactured by the company. Besides on some of these products, Sikh religious symbols like the 'khanda' are also displayed. "The US-government should withdraw and ban all products being manufactured by this company", stated Makkar while calling upon Sikhs and members of other communities to boycott all products of this company. Makkar claimed that the company seemed to be deliberately manufacturing garments with sketches of the Sikh gurus, of their religious symbols and or the Golden Temple. Now they plan to reconstructe it. ‘Reconstruction of Chamkaur Di Garhi will be completed within one year’ Rupnagar, Punjab: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar on Tuesday said the reconstruction of Chamkaur di Garhi, the site related to Guru Gobind Singh and the battle between Sikhs and Mughal forces in 1704 in Chamkaur Sahib, would be completed within one year to give it a touch of originality. It may be mentioned that Gur u Gobind Singh’s two elder brothers Sahibzadas Ajit Singh and Jujhar Singh and other sikhs had attained martyrdom during the battle. Guru Gobind Singh had sent his Sahibzadas and 40 Sikhs from the ‘Katchi’ Garhi to fight the Mughal forces. The historic Chamkaur Di Garhi was demolished many years back and a gurdwara was built at that place by the SGPC. Now, the SGPC has decided to reconstruct the Garhi. While talking to media persons at Gurdwara Bhatta Sahib near Rupnagar, Makkar said the reconstruction work would be done through Kar Seva. Later on, Makkar also laid the foundation stone of the reconstruction work of the Garhi at Chankaur Sahib. In reply to a question about the failure of the SGPC to conserve the historic Qila of Nihang Khan, relating to Guru Gobind Singh at Kotla Nihang village near Rupnagar, Makkar said the committee formed by him in this regard was yet to give its report. He said the SGPC was ready to purchase the site. However, the owners of the site were demanding a hefty price. Later, Makkar also addressed a religious conference held on the occasion of Shaheedi Jor Mela at Gurdwara Bhatta Sahib. He also inaugurated the new Serai built at Gurdwara Sahib. Waheguru Tunnel an old drainage pipe: SGPC Yudhvir Rana, TNN Nov 26, 2013, 05.23AM IST AMRITSAR: A Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) official has clarified that the tunnel-like structure discovered beneath the surface near the 'langar' hall of the Golden Temple in Amritsar was a drainage pipe laid in earlier times. SGPC additional secretary Diljit Singh Bedi told TOI, "After inspecting the mysterious structure, we found it to be a drainage pipe laid a few centuries ago, which has been covered now." A sewadar (worker) at the Golden Temple chanced upon a tunnel-like structure and a small room made of Nanakshahi bricks while digging near the 'langar' hall of the shrine. Initially, people believed that the tunnel was an ancient secret passage, which was used during the days of Maharaja Ranjit Singh or a passage to connect with other gurdwaras in the Holy City. Sources in SGPC told that in olden days there used to be a network of underground tunnels, which were used by messengers for delivering letters and other messages from Lahore to Delhi and were also used as secret passages in case of emergency. However, SGPC didn't take the advice of archaeological experts to ascertain whether the structures were of historical importance. A similar underground passage was discovered while digging in the area of Gurdwara Lohgarh located in the walled city in 2010 as well. It was then suggested that the tunnel was either a secret passage connecting Lohgarh Fort and Gobindgarh Fort or an ancient sewerage pipe but experts were not consulted. Conservator Rajnish Khosla questioned, "How can one reach at a logical conclusion without consulting experts?" He suggested that the tunnel discovered underneath should be covered with glass and preserved for future generations. "This could be a curious sight showcasing rich Sikh architecture for lakhs of devotees who visit Golden Temple everyday," said Khosla. Film Shooting to be banned inside Golden Temple by SANJEEV SINGH on NOVEMBER 23, 2013 In a meeting held yesterday, Singh sahibs have taken important decisions on few issues. Film shooting will be entirely banned inside Golden Temple premises. However, Religious documentaries can be allowed, but will require a prior written permission from SGPC. Another important decision has been taken regarding some Gurudwara management committees allowing chairs or benches to be installed for the elderly or differently abled inside Gurudwara premises.. Terming this practice as disrespect of Guru Granth Sahib, Jathedar Gurbachan Singh said, Gurudwara committees can install chairs benches outside the Gurudwara hall and not inside the hall where Guru Granth Sahib is installed. In another decision, Gurudwara management committees cannot have Patit sikhs (those who cut hair) as member of the management. Only Amritdhari and Sabat Soorat Sikhs can be members of Gurudwara management. Issuing fresh guidelines regarding Nagar Keertan, Jathedar Akal Takhat Sahib, Singh Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh said that it has come to notice that in some Nagar keertans, the Palki of Guru Granth Sahib is left behind and whole Sangat goes ahead. Recently the Jathedar has reprimanded a guy for bringing the saroop in a suitcase to a foreign country. I say this has been happening for some 80 years......why all of a sudden the punishement? We all agree that respect and proper maryada for the transportation of the Saroop is very important, but here is my point: Akal Takht and SGPC have made it very clear thar they have sole rights to the printng of the saroops (india only) but for those who are in foreign countries and need the saroops and then bring them over the best way that they can based on the means that they have, they get in trouble. When will the idiots running the show wake up and realise that we also require saroops in foreign countries?? SGPC don't want to provide an over seas printing facility and also don't want to make arrangements to send the saroops with proper respect overseas - so then what are we to do? Our local gurdwara's are too busy having multiple paats and don't trust anybody enough to give saroop, so then what option is left? We sikhs in NRI land have enough money and resources to set up our printing facility so then why don't we?????? NRI sikhs have handled every problem sent there way with there own resources (turban cases, kirpan cases, racism, etc, etc) so then why is it that we can't handle this as well? I would like to appeal to Sikh Channel, Sikhs fOr Justice, Sikhri, UK Sikh Council, Damdami Taksal, AKJ, Nihangs, Gurdwara committee's, etc, etc and all the other committee's out there to take up this issue and start our own press....I know you all read this forum so pls provude your comments.

To resolve the controversy triggered by the Damdami Taksal’s move to inscribe the name of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale at the entrance of Operation Bluestar Memorial, the SGPC today requested Akal Takht chief Giani Gurbachan Singh and Golden Temple’s Head Granthi Mal Singh to resolve the matter with the Taksal. Rajinder Singh Mehta, SGPC executive member, will coordinate the talks. Sources said Jathedar Gurbachan Singh and Head Granthi Giani Mal Singh may meet Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa tomorrow. They said that SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar had a telephonic talk with Baba Harnam Singh. As part of damage control, the SGPC has turned around the ‘golak’ kept inside the memorial which had Bhindranwale's name on it. However, there are five more spots where Bhindranwale's name has been inscribed- two marble plaques atop the memorial entrance, two aluminum plaques on either side of the staircase and a board mentioning the history of Operation Bluestar on the left side of the entrance. The Dal Khalsa today ridiculed the SGPC president's claim that the Taksal had kept him in the dark on the issue of dedicating the memorial to Bhindranwale. Quoting from the resolution passed at the SGPC executive committee meeting on May 3, 2012, party chief HS Dhami said it clearly stated that the “meeting authorises Damdami Taksal head Baba Harnam Singh to raise the memorial near Akal Takht in memory of Sant Bhindranwale" and others killed in the Army operation.
