  1. Are there any difference of birth/death programs that we keep in our dharam? We do akhand patth and I don’t see any difference as they all are same. Gurbani, kirtan, katha, langar. Only difference is the end part of the ardas which highlights the program. So there is no difference between happy/sad?
  2. VJKK VJKF The SGPC rehat was created in 1925 if I remember correctly. This begs the question what was the official rehat that people used to follow around the time of Guru Gobind Singh Ji? If I search any rehat at the time there are so many different ones. Which one is the official one that was set at that time? Vaheguru Ji.
  3. VJKK VJKF Sangat Ji, as Sikhs we are not kill animals and hurt others but why do we wear shoes of leather and have tablas made of goat skin being used in Gurudwaras today? Is this okay or paakhandi? Vaheguru Ji.
  4. VJKK VJF Sangat Ji, I'm hearing that Nihang Singhs put 5 leaves of cannabis in degh. What is this for and why is this? I mean cannabis... cannabis. I'm kind of (not) getting to grips what jhatka meat is about but cannabis? Someone please enlighten me. VJKK VJKF
  5. VJKK VJKF Sangat Ji, I know some people who are able to read Japji Sahib in about 9-10 minutes. They say they listen to themselves the whole time and they understand and hear themselves repeating the bani. Is this wrong to repeat bani fast? Vaheguru Ji.
  6. VJKK VJKF Sangat Ji, my question is straightforward but I have no answer no matter where I look. People do Japji Sahib jaaps all day and night even though it is a morning paath so my question is this. Can I do Rehraas Sahib during the day and also in the morning? Is there anything wrong with this? Vaheguru Ji.
  7. Waheguru ji Ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh, Does anyone know of the Ardas done at sachkand Sri hazoor sahib, if so could you reply with a romanised version with the names of the gurdwareh mentioned in the ardas, thanks Bhul chuk maf Karo ji
  8. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa! Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Sangat Ji, has anyone got a copy of the purataan rehat marayada where the panj pathay (5 leaves) of sukha is written? Or is it taken from Bhai Santokh Singh's Sri Gur Partap Suraj Parkash? Also, is shaheedi degh the only way of consumption? Meaning, can it be consumed as infused 'tea' with honey for example? Looking to get the health benefits from it but won't always be able to do the traditional ragra. Please don't make this post anti-sukha/shaheedi degh! Akaal!
  9. wjkk wjkf sangat jee recently i had a minor accident and bandage guy needed to remove some hairs from the affected area though i am not amritdhari as of yet but i am being sabat soorat sikh all through this point of my life .... i am feeling guilty about it since then... and needed advice from you
  10. Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji ki fateh, As a new member a bit about myself. I was 17 when I got baptised. 11 years on wards I have, so far, enjoyed every minute of it. STILL am! with kirpa. BUT you have not clicked this post to read about this am sure? So let's got on with the title. Why Sikhs should not gamble... In late August 2015 I had came up with an idea, to gamble online. I had known it is against the rehat especially for Amritdhaaris. It even states in SGGS "Gamblers, adulterers leave this world barefooted/ empty handed" (referring to NOTHING good can come out of it in the long run), whether you lost a couple of thousands or made millions from less than 100 (pound/ dollar take your pick). But I applied worldly thoughts on myself and thought I could hit it BIG with this shortcut system, besides I been failing lately in life education/ job wise anyways... I opened an account and proceeded to gamble. Does anyone know why alcohol is bad for you? (NO I do not drink). But thing is, with alcohol intoxicated the mind goes into a state of frenzy. The next morning the drunk person wakes up and says "Where am I? what happened last night?" They may notice their hair has gone short, they have woken up with someone beside them. They do not know what happened. Maharaaj Foresaw the future and asked himself "Drink drivers? How many Sikhs will suffer as victim or perpetrator?" Maharaaj also realised (did this happen back in the days)? that alcohol comes in strengths, like from 3% start (I think thas the start)? to 90% in volume (Accent in France as told by my friend). Maharaaj also must have thought "Well, if I give the go ahead and say Sikhs can drink a little then it's ok?" BUT Guru Gobind Singh Ji also realised that Sikhs like to bypass Rehats and everyone will waste away their time on debate "How much is less?" IF Maharaaj gave a unit or figure and said "I suppose 100ml glass once a week?" PEOPLE WOULD HAVE DEBATED THAT TODAY AND USED THEIR MANN CHATURIAA OR "INTELLIGENCE" AND 100ML WOULD HAVE BEEN 500ML somehow. We Sikhs can be excellent in by passing rehats as such. Dussa Paasha came to a straight point and said "Do not even touch the bottle of alcohol" NO means NO! Let's get back to the point of gambling (I will get back to the point of alcohol and gambling). Anyone familiar with Mahabharaat story will know that the punj pandavs had lost EVERYTHING on gambling. Land, estates, Money, Army, any Businesses right down to their wife!!! Why had they kept playing despite it was a rigged game? THEY KNEW IT WAS RIGGED! because they had HOPE! They hoped the game will eventually turn in their favour. Today slot machines have a message written on them, that "There is no money within these machines overnight" so robbers know not to rob the place overnight. What will a gambler do first thing in the morning? THEY HAVE HOPE TO POP IN A QUID AND TAKE OUT MAXIMUM WINNINGS! SAME PRINCIPLE, SAME HOPE, SAME SCHEME AS THE TIME OF MAHABHARAT!!! Just like the alcoholist makes fake promises "I'll stop soon" I would like to speak from first hand experience, when gambling and winning you say "I'll stop soon" IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. Like people call money Maya (I don't, i hate that) gambling and alcohols are physical forms of maya too. Once you indulge in them the mind says MORE MORE MORE! and you make these false promises (lying is against rehat too) and you lie to yourself. I can speak from ONE point of view why gambling is forbidden. BECAUSE YOU DO NOT STOP WHEN WINNING UNTIL YOU LOSE ALL THE MONEY!!! It drives you crazy and depressed. Maharaaj does not want to see his Sikhs crazy, depressed and broke. Just like an alcoholist will promise "I shall stop drinking soon" but the brain is pulled like a magnet towards the evils of the physical form of Maya. What I mean is, when I was on the website I thought "Okay, if I win ÂŁ300 I stop for 7 whole days then go again. Where will I be in a year's time?" However, when I got on, first day guess how much I won? from ÂŁ100 deposit to ÂŁ3,000!!! Any guesses what happened then? I carried on and until.. I lost the winnings and my deposit too! Within 2 days I had lost ÂŁ2,000 of REAL money. So much for 7 days, I was not a santokhi bandha to stop first day. THE GAME GIVES YOU FALSE HOPE AND FALSE DREAMS! All the material gains, big cars, big bank balances etc etc. But your mind gets trapped LIKE AN ALCOHOLISTS!!! YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN TO STOP! Now, am sure many people state "Gambling is forbidden as the morals of it, not your money, against an honest living" etc etc THATS 100% TRUE! But it's also true, the only way you'll know why it's TRULY forbidden, the ultimate true way is if you become a gambler (please don't. Just take this ex- gambler's word for it). So, it was an ongoing battle where I lost, won, lost, won lost and won. Whether I won/ lost or neither is not relevant here. Second part in why not to gamble is because the morals behind it. It's like taking money that does not belong to you. And let's not forget about Karma! If a person wins from gambling like ÂŁ200,000, enjoys the cash what will happen to them in their next life? Will they be born in a rich family only to lose ALL their wealth of ÂŁ200,000 and live in poverty? Who has stolen/ taken their cash? maybe the person/ people in the past life that had lost the money on gambling, that YOU then won? This is all perception and an idea. Only Maharaaj knows why bad things happen to good decent people, why people suffer and how much to balance out the Karmas. I shall write more posts on here, Saakhis, Rehats and, like this post, personal experiences of life. Until then, Bhul chuk maaf, take it easy and feel free to ask questions. WJKKWJKF.
  11. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Any solutions? It happens a lot, don't know how to fix my weak focus. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  12. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Why is there such a bad gender ratio of fewer female Amritdharis than that of male Amritdharis? Do the parents teach the daughter about the need for Amrit or what? (Also I seem to notice that some of them seem to be told off that if they want to take Amrit to wait till marriage; which only hurts this ratio more.) Is there a way to get both males and females interested, in the olden days people begged to take Amrit, now pracharks are begging for others to take Amrit. (Also if someone falls in Prem with Guru Sahib; what stalls them from taking Amrit.) Just wanted to know these questions with the answers. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  13. WJKK WJKF, Now before this discussion begins, spare us all with "you aren't perfect so stop talking", "they might be better off on the inside" wale bachans, because yes, they might be better than us on the inside and we are not perfect. But as a panth, we should have the right to make sure that people are not misunderstanding sikhi and defining it their way, instead of that defined by Guru ji. there are quite a few women, who tie dastars and are amritdhari, beautiful but then some of them constantly reject the maryada. Now, I have been taught that a true Sikh never neglects the maryada and a true Sikh aims to follow the most of it. These women wear make up, shorts and low-neck shirts, dancing and singing songs, swearing. While feminism has a great role to play in the whole "make up and clothing" choices, they often blame some Singhs for exposing their body, which I am against, simply because both parties are luring the other into "lust" (read it from a post, makes sense) i read a few posts from kaurlife and they wish to achieve women equality by wearing fewer clothes because singhs do it, participate in the panj pyare and walking beside their husband during anand karaj. Ignoring that as a panth we are all in it together, we shall help each other instead of trying our best to let the other spiritually down. It is hard to have them listen to us, so... Opinions ?
  14. I was looking through Bhai Randheer Singhs Gurmat Bibek/Vivek Books and it took me really long to get through the pages especially because he uses very high level Punjabi when writing. I was wondering if anyone knows any translations to the books or if they would like to collaborate with the Canada Sangat to have them translated? Vaheguruuuu Ji Ka Khalsaa Vaheguruuuu Ji Ki Fatehhh!
  15. Waheguru ji ke khalsa wahiguru ji ki fateh i understand and agree that the Akaal Bunga is the head of the Panth but could I have some quotes and itihaas to back this up thanks

    Rehatnama

VJKK VJKF, Khasla Ji - can someone please provide all knows sources of rehatnama in English please? Fateh Ji. Bhul chuk maaf karna
  17. VJKK VJKF Online sangat Ji, this daas has one beantee. By way of background, I am a Sikh who met a non-sikh partner. We started dating and sometime into the relationship, Guru Sahib did kirpa and gave me the thirst for amrit. I understand and now agree that dating the non-sikh person was not proper. However, it may have been Maharaj Ji who set this khel for me. This person is lovely and has been very supportive in my aspirations. Now, she would like for us to get married and have a family etc. All of which I supported. However, now that I wish to be blessed with amrit, I ask: - will the panj payare administer this situation? - if they do, can I have a physical relation and children with her? The other thing is: - If it is a choice between Amrit and this person, I will pick Amrit and the Guru Sahib. However, I do not wish to break their heart as they also have akal roop inside them and I also consider this to be a sin. I am really confused either way. I wish to take hukamnama to resolve this and guidance from panj payare. But any other thoughts from the sangat will be greatly appreciated. VJKK VJKF Please forgive any mistakes from this lowly Sikh.
  18. Khalsa Fateh Jee can we follow two Rehat Maryadas like Taksaal and Tarna Dal and merge things from both?

    Kesh After Combing

Vjkk Vjkf I had a question which is what do we do with the Kesh that gets stuck in our Kangha after combing and what do we do the kesh that is dead and falls out?? Thanks
  20. WjkkWjkf I took amrit a few months back and it was magical. I lived a normal life, attended events and high profile parties and all was fine.Things seem to change a little before I went to Bali for a convention; also my path was lessening. I went to eating some meat as I read a hukumnama from Akhal Takht Sahib, saying that we could and I was simply not adjusting to vegetarian fare which I had never eaten. I was almost doing fine, till I met this man. I met him and my prayers stopped and I almost gave into temptation. He constantly encouraged me to violate amrit saying he too was an amritdhari once but his Guru was Guru Nanak, who laid down no rules and a loving God did not care if we followed rules. I met him again yesterday and he offered me a job, where I would have an amazing position, if I cut my hair. My answer was obvious I do not want any job, where i cannot follow rehat. However I feel I have violated my amrit and do not know what to do. Living without amrit is like burning each day and yet I feel I do not deserve to even go and ask maafi from panj pyare. Should I go and renew my amrit or should I wait. If I wait would I keep getting into this pit and if I go what if I make a mistake again?? Help me please.

    Sikhs And Dating?

Can anyone tell me exactly why Sikhs can't date other Sikhs? (If you are from the same religion it shouldn't be a problem). Also if we keep our Rehats during the relationship, wouldn't it help find a suitable partner in the future. Keeping the basic rules of no Adultery and kissing and all that junk. Also I'd like either Rehat Maryada or Gurbani views on this, if it even mentions it.
  22. I believe that Katha should be limited as it is very dangerous play when novice or bad person starts mixing his own manmat views in it. Why we should we listen or follow the advice or views of the person who is on the stage? We don't know who he is and what views he got. Taksali style katha is ok where a person keeps their own views on control and they do have another person right next to them reading bani every other line. Too many people from india are entering in katha field as it is easy to get in and make quick money. I believe that there should limit to this.
  23. WJKK WJKF Sangat ji, Yesterday my upper thigh was bleeding and a band aid wouldn't stick on the wound. So, I took a towel paper and used it as a gauze. To hold it down, I took medical tape and taped around my leg to hold the gauze in place. Later on that night, when I went to remove the tape. I lost some hair where the tape was. Would I need to be pesh in front of the 5 pyare or is asking maharaaj for forgiveness through ardaas enough because I didn't see any other option at the time?
