  1. Educatetosave.com I recently attended a program and Bhai Veer Manpreet singh performed kirtan of very high quality. Searching his next venue, I was determined to reach on time for more. I may have been a bit blind to how we can all help alleviate the immediate dangers to Punjab population which are being highlighted in the media now. However after half an hour of a video show and a touching speech, the solution has been found in sponsoring education to the poor villages in Punjab. Baba Ji who runs Baru Sahib now has a plan for which he needs help from all of us - which if I am not wrong was providing 10,000 places all free to support children whose fathers may have committed suicide, or may have succumbed to alcohol and passed away at an early age. The truth brought tears to many eyes - it is very sad. The statistics of near extinction of the Sikh youth are very worrying. However if we all come together and support this charity by sponsoring a child for £25, we could make a great difference to the future of Punjab. A similar program will be held at Park Avenue - Sri Guru Singh sabha on the 18th of March. All proceeds will be donated to educatetosave.com - same as they were today. Baba Ji has achieved amazing results, I would say - in terms of what he has managed to do for poor families in India. His institutes have managed to create amazing kirtaniyas like Bhai veer Manpreet Singh Himself too who is an ex-student of Baru Sahib. Babaji is now well into his 90s and still has plans to continue building new schools. We should be thankful for all the luxuries we live in. Cars, grand houses, latest mobile phones, new clean clothes, happy families and good education. As Sikhs we should all spare some time to think and devote to those who will carry on the legacy of the Gurus - who will look after our Guradwaras in India - Harmander Sahib, Amritsar Sahib and many others. Posting our opinions on the internet and mere debates on Punjab and its sorry state will not help anyone. We need to remember that they are not there our of their own will. This has been the result of a forethought plan which has disabled them to the verge of extinction. The least we can do is support organisations and people who have volunteered to go and offer help single handedly. Let us not leave them begging for little donations while we turn a blind eye and go on to enjoy our little luxuries. By supporting these organisations we will be doing what Guru Ji taught us - sacha saudha. Our money will be used not only to educate a poor child but also to bring them up in the way of Sikhi as each child performs nitnem everyday at Amrit vela.
  2. Digital heroin emerging major threat among mobile crazy youth Yudhvir Rana | TNN | Feb 24, 2017, 05.09 PM IST AMRITSAR: Not only the substance addiction is taking lives of Punjabi youth but with the vast popularity and unabated use of internet, the screen addiction has also emerged as a potent threat for people of all age groups using mobile phones, which is causing major behavioral disorders as well as impotency. "There are over a dozen patients, with majority of young girls undergoing treatment of behaviour disorder in our internet deaddiction centre," said addiction psychiatrist Dr. JPS Bhatia while talking to TOI on Friday. Stating that benefits of social networking was far less than its harmful effects, Bhatia said it was hiding one's own true identity under the garb of a pleasing activity. He said that parents approach with sudden fall in grades of their children while wives complain about their husbands neglecting them. Among youth, the symptoms of screen addiction includes unconsciously looking at mobile phone, hand movement towards phone, relationship problems with immediate family members and living in a dream-like state. Giving example, Bhatia said that parent of one of his patients reported that their son spends hours in bathroom. Vaishali (name changed), mother of a 15-year-old girl screen addict, said, "I was worried to find major changes in my daughter's behaviour. She would spend at least three to four hours in bathroom and when I clandestinely checked her mobile, it was full of porn stuff and more than one hundred male Facebook friends that was an alarming call." Bhatia said that among adult males, erectile malfunction was a major symptom. "When husband and wife are using cell phone, they feel they are being neglected. This emptiness leads to marital disharmony," he said. Notably, a recently released government data had disclosed Amritsar as the top city among others for sharing sexual abuse material. According to the data, Amritsar took top place with more than 4.3 lakh "files of interest" - code for child porn - shared between July 1, 2016 to January 15, 2017. While Delhi was second in the slot followed by Lucknow. Talking about the treatment part, he said at the internet deaddiction centre, they give life skills counselling and advise on inculcating good habits while the male adults were made to realize the importance of real relations over the fantasy world of pornography. While agreeing to the addiction caused by mobile phones and excessive use of internet, medical superintendent Guru Nanak Dev Medical Hospital Dr. Ram Saroop said that over-dependence on mobile phones was causing frustration among youth and related disorders. Bhatia suggested to develop "role models" at the school level as the first measure to check the impending threat of screen addiction. "Students follow their teachers and if the teachers will keep the mobiles away, they will learn the same."
  3. Quite an interesting song and video. Alot of truth in this song...
  4. Many say migration to foreign countries is to blame , but we just see lesser and lesser turbans in punjab every day. Even in the holy city of amritsar , one sees lesser proportions of turbaned youths . Recently inaugurated IIM at Amritsar offers a scarier picture on its official website. The batch picture of students shows most appear to be non-sikh students with shorn hair. In a batch pic of some 50 students, I didn't see more than 2 turbans . Rest all boys were shorned hair. Are they kids of migrants from UP, bihar ? don't know Sikhs fell from 61% share of punjab demography in 2001 to 57% in 2011 survey. If the trend continues, the day is not far when sikhs will become a minority in their own state and hindutva brigade will have a field day .
  5. For more than 50 years, the Central Govt has made Panjab give away more than 50 percent of its river water, for free, to the non riparian states of Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. And it has costed Panjab more than 20 lakh crore rupees (£200 billion pounds). Today only 20 per cent of Panjab's water needs are being met by its own river water. In this film, Pritam Singh Kumedan, an expert and advisor to the Panjab Govt on riparian water issues, reveals, in an interview with UNITED SIKHS, how Panjab can stop giving away this water for free. Will the politicians, who Panjab is voting for on 4th Feb 2017, ensure that Panjab does not give away its water to non-riparian states anymore?
  6. How would those in Punjab (remembering there are Hindus, Muslims, Christians too) vote as a percent of Yes vs No? If NRI Sikhs were to vote, how would it compare by country, e.g. UK, USA, Canada, Italy?

    Sikh Traitors in Punjab

I tried to find out what happened to the strong Panth that we used to have in Punjab and one of the main reasons of the downfall in India was because of sikhs themselves selling out their Sikh brothers and sisters!! For drugs, for threats on their families by the government, for police! I can't believe that Sikhs would sell out SIkhi like this? Why did this happen??
  8. Seeing the failure of simranjeet mann to get elected or get any decent voter turn out in various elections. It is high time he stepped aside and let a populist Sikh pro-khalistan leader come on to the scene and take charge. We are in a world where politics are being shifted on their head and nationalist movements and leaders are coming to power like in the west. We have seen Sikhs of punjab are very pro-khalistan even after many genocides and schemes by the state to silence them by fear, they still come out in huge numbers such as rajoana protest and sarbat khalsa 2015. So it is up to the Sikh leaders to put aside their ego's and come on one platform and fight for the panth. We know badals are dogs who are only interested in hindustan and punjabiyat, they dont see votes in Sikh causes any more. But as brexit has proved the votes are still there its just there needs to be enough motivation, awareness and anger from the people to rise up against the status quo and change the system by electing a pro-khalistan party, who will have a democratic and political mandate to create a Khalistan.
  9. Really interesting watch and great to see Nihang Singhs supporting such a good art!
  10. All Sikhs need to do now is organize a central Sikh body government of Khalistan, a disciplined military force and start issuing currency and they will have the much promised area of freedom within the Indian union as Nehru had assured the Sikhs in 1946. Sikhs had 6 independent kingdoms prior 1947 and the most active armies was the Sikh kingdoms of patiala, jind and faridkot. When the Raja's of those kingdoms gave their lot in with the Indian union thinking they can have high positions of power in the indian government. They gave away Sikh autonomy by disbanding their armies and merging them with the Indian national army. Sikhs in punjab need to start thinking about organising themselves in the Khalistan national army and police force.
  11. Another sicknening case of attack on a Sikh brother by a non-sikh (possible hindu extremist) in punjab, india the so called sikh homeland. Look how vulnerable the dastaar is, it flew off with 1 slap by that fat anti-sikh hippo and look at the singh's kesh easy to pull and disabled the singh who is then beaten up. Guru Ji knew this and gave his sikhs the right to bear weapsons so that any Sikh who kept long hair also kept the weapons for self defence. Now you figure out how a singh with kesh who doesn't carry weapons can defend himself against this onslaught?
  12. HINDU GROUPS LAUNCH MASSIVE GHAR WAPSI FOR 70 LAKH SEHAJDHARI SIKHS The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)and other Hindu organisations have launched a massive campaign to bring 70 Lakh strong Sehajdhari Sikhs into Hinduism in a program they call Punjab Ghar Wapsi. The VHP stated they wanted the Sehajdhari Sikhs go identify with their origins and join Hinduism. The campaign is being launched from a village level to enlighten the Sehajdhari Sikhs by handing out pamphlets and telling them that Hinduism was always open for them. A group called Hindu Nyay Peeth is reported being active in distribution of pamphlets in villages of Ludhiana and Bathinda. The Indian Express reported: The interactions have started in rural Punjab and soon seminars will be held at the grassroot-level to tell Sehajdhari Sikhs that they are not different from Hindus. We have no problem with Sehajdharis remaining in Sikhism, if they get respect and rights but if not, they should turn towards their origin. There is no need to get forcefully converted to Christianity or Islam, said Sukhpal Singh, national executive member, VHP. The effort by the Hindu group comes after the SGPC welcomed the Rajya Sabha legislation barring Sehajdharis from voting in the SGPC elections. http://dailysikhupdates.com/hindu-groups-launch-massive-ghar-wapsi-70-lakh-sehajdhari-sikhs/
  13. I wouldn't bother going India, unless you are going to the historical Gurdwaras of Sikhi or visiting close relatives. I'm here at the moment, and it's changed so much from the last time I was here. My health has been affected so much by the change of everything here, and I haven't had much of a good experience since being here. The pind life has changed too, my internet keeps cutting off, so not sure if this post will go through. Internet reception is so bad. I should be used to India as I've been enough times, but this time I am just not adjusting to it as I thought I would. People have changed, everything's changed. So far, I've experienced there is no sense of humanity like when I used to come before. Nobody's cares about nobody, everybody is all themselves, "me me me". I thought it was a western abroad issue, but here it's much worse. Totally different planet. Big culture shock, I think I'm still stuck in the old way of thinking when people were friendly and used to care. But those words are non existent here. Ok so my experience so far; - I Am ashamed to say that the airport, named after Guru Ramdas ji, has not been done proud or maintained as it should be, considering it is the land of the Gurus. The disabled services are totally ****. Excuse the language, but I know I and others along with me went through an unpleasant experience. I ended up telling off the staff and having to fight for my right of getting a wheelchair, even though it was pre-booked. And on top of it I was asked for tips, which I refused to give and gave them a few lectures on disabled rights. I was told to sit in a wheelchair which was a sheet of fabric on top of metal bars or rods, obviously I refused to sit in it as it was so painful too. Some staff tried to fob off the genuine wheelchair users, but I got so frustrated and was disgusted by it, I took my stand and I'm so glad I did. God knows what I will go through going back. - Women here are very nasty, and have attitude problems. People lie to your face just to divert you from anything good. Rest I will tell you when I come back. Only met a few young decent genuine girls who love my way of thinking. Most women will be sweet to your face but then I see them talking about me in the corner. As I have been occupied in a wedding, haven't had chance to go sight seeing or to any historical isthaans. It's so tiring here, and you just feel like going anywhere. - Weddings are a nightmare here, no system at all. The process is different aswell. The men aren't too bad with manners and social etiquette, but the women are vicious, unorganised and want to be first first first at everything, be it the Maiya or Jago or the Anand Karaj. God knows why, because they don't do nothing when they get to the front ? I've been on purpose, and been give so many looks and Mehne. Women are very judgmental here and obviously have that great talent of chuglian and lieing. But I've had the pleasure of seeing the lagis, bajigar singers. Lagis are more greedy now, and have received a few negative comments and Mehne just for being from abroad. In Uk the milni is first and then tea and then Anand Karaj. But here, it's Anand Karaj, then off to the palace and milni then tea. The thing that made me angry most was the videographers and photographers. Every second they are taking pictures or filming. Like a billion photos with the most stupidest poses lol. I think the wedding was just a film and photo shoot, didn't even feel like a wedding. I've had to defend myself at the wedding most against women, it's quite dangerous being pushed and trampled, especially when you know certain women are doing it on purpose. So I thought enough is enough and got all my energy and gave them a taste of their own medicine. Didn't like doing it, but it was the only way to save myself from injuries. But hey it worked, because now they know not to mess with me and are being polite. It's like disciplining kids. Obviously the speakers are much louder than abroad so one doesn't really get to enjoy the wedding. - Talking about system, there is no system for anything, which I already knew, but seems to have got worse. No traffic system, no social events system, no shopping system, not really a system in the few Gurdwaras I been too. The people just don't respect system. That's about it on system and organisation, the only system I seen is lieing, chuglian and evil looks. - As you know staring is the norm here, but it's now accompanied by evil dirty looks again by the women. To which I've had to respond like this ? Or ?? Or said words in English which stops the dirty looks, which never happened before I used to come, only staring was the fashion. - One has to distinguish between the genuine beggars and the fraud beggars. I've found the genuine ones won't give Mehne and didn't hassle me so much. When I said I'm sorry I don't have anything to give which I didnt, they kind of respected me for it and moved away, whereas the fake ones gave me Mehne and made negative comments. I think I've felt more humanity from the genuine poor or low class people here and been talking to them it's made me feel more welcome than the normal people. I normally talk to the kids, they are so cute. But there is not enough discipline, kids are naughtier I think here. And unlike abroad they wonder around the pind by themselves or play with friends and the parents don't know where they are. I suppose it's the norm here. - There are more dogs barking at night, having their tantrums and arguments. The time you want to go to sleep kuttea di laraiyi hojandi ??. Then the neighbours put their stereo speakers on full blast trying to be DJs playing Bhangra. So yup you guessed it, no rest. Then in the morning the Gurdwara speaker goes on the loudest volume setting, which I'm trying to get used to now. But not one, then the other Gurdwaras and Mandirs put their speakers on too. There isn't really peace of mind as i can't get any laha from Gurbani when it's that loud. I think they've put the speakers louder than last time. It's like one whole mix up of loud noises and hard to focus on what's being read. But again it's the norm here, which I'm not used to. One day I was so tired and said the Granthi didn't do paat today. Everybody was like he did, I must have been in deep sleep. That's about it really, the delights of India, it's been raining so not sure where to go. Not sure what there is to see Jalandhar area. People don't advice on where to go. Is there anything worth seeing that somebody else has around here? Need some happy therapy as long as it's not food outlets, I'd be grateful if somebody could advise any sight seeing or historical places. Thank you ji. The rest I will update when I come back. ?? Waheguru

  15. PATHANKOT: Gunshots were heard near the Indian Air Force base in Punjab's Pathankot on Saturday morning in a suspected terror attack, authorities said. At least four terrorists launched an attack on the key military installation breaching the security of the base, sources said. Two of the terrorists have been killed. The gunfire started at around 3:30 am, authorities said, adding that an official car was used to launch the attack. The incident is being seen as connected to the hijacking of a police car a day ago. Gunfire is being heard from inside the air base and reports suggest the terrorists have been contained in a non-operational area of the facility. The National Security Guard has been called in, authorities said. http://www.ndtv.com/india-news/reports-of-firing-near-air-base-in-punjab-s-pathankot-1261432?pfrom=home-lateststories Terrorist had stolen Gurudaspur SP car yesterday.

  18. !) Jagmeet has forced the BBC to show its true face and contempt for minority religious groups to have their voice heard. It's a huge humiliation for BBC which is seen as a realiable and unbiased British broadcaster to be outed like this worldwide. 2) The killings of 2 Sikh peaceful protesters in Punjab made news around the world to Sikhs in seconds which meant Sikhs could react quickyl and form protests offline and online. Back in 1980s the killings of dozens of Sikhs was business as usual and only the Indian newspapers, or Sikh old media punjabi newspapers would report it aboard after a week or so. The toleration level in the community for number of Sikhs killed was high because Sikhs mostly didn't mind if their fellow adherents were killed protesting for a good cause as it would qualify as shaheedi for the panth. But these days we have had enough of our people getting killed by our enemies we dont tolerate it any more and we will call out the murderers in the streets, in the mainstream media and on social media so that all the world can see and pressure is built against the aggressors. 3) Youths who normally we would are too busy wasting their life and time chatting about celebs on social media and apps were busy tweeting about SikhLivesMatter which is a good sign because it was around that teen age that passion for Sikhi is formed. If a person cares enough for his Sikh brothers and sisters to speak out on their behalf then they are not the part of the young lost generation we often talk about. 4) Badal and SGPC in punjab are feeling the heat, they can see that Sikhs don't trust them no more and will not tolerate their hold on our religious-political institutions. The time for reform has come, the time for Sarbat Khalsa has come
  19. Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji Ki Fateh! Gurmukh Pyaareo, If you want to help get more media coverage of what is happening in Punjab, please take a moment to sign the following 2 petitions. 20. The Dera culture is sweeping through punjab. gathering converts from the main religions.Their success can not be denied. What is their pulling power attraction.I beleive they serve a bigger function than a few wise words from a charamatic baba leader. In a failed state like punjab, where social and economic problems are so intense.Theses DERAs offer a walk in one stop family crisis campus. They help the people in their hour of need. They are a mini welfare state for the people. Sikhs have to learn from this, and start their own sikh deras .An campus for sikhi learning, health free food, counselling, voluntary work and many more needs
