  1. ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਿਹ Article 25 of the Indian Constitution allows Sikhs "the wearing and carrying of kirpans". Do you know of any places in India where this right is abused and therefore illegal? If so, list them here and when the visit took place.

  4. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Amritsar, Punjab (July 31, 2014): The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has strongly criticized Ganganagar (Rajasthan) based “University of Kota” also called “Kota University” for banning an Amritdhari Sikh student from entrying the examination hall because of his Kirpan. Sikh Kirpan – is a sword that is considered to be integral part of practice of Sikh religion. In a statement SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said Kirpan, one of the essential articles of faith, is must for a Sikh to wear all the times, but the administration of Kota University did not allow an Amritdhari Sikh student Jagwinder Singh to enter the examination hall. He was to take part in examination for the course of “Registered Medical Practitioner” (RMP). He said that many foreign countries have allowed Sikhs to wear Kirpan but it was unfortunate that Sikhs were being treated as ‘slaves’ in India. “Kota University’s move has hurt the sentiments of global Sikh community”, SGPC statement reads. Avtar Singh Makkar said that Kota University administration should withdraw it’s “Aurangzeb-style” order and allow Sikh students to take part in examination. He said that special arrangement should be made for Jagwinder Singh so that he could take part in exam that was missed because of university’s wrongful restrain. He said that if the university administration fails to act as per SGPC’s demands, legal action shall be fired against the university. by Sikh Siyasat Bureau.
  5. i was recently looking at kirpans and came across this and it made me think why not use a combat style knife, when this type looks similar and just bears the khanda on it, also should not the kirpan be a practical tool and well as a spiritual / Ang of ours and gift from Guru ji, would not any appropriate combat knife with a leather sheath and a khanda put on it and presented before Guru ji and an ardas offered be acceptable, please give your feelings and advice about this. bhul chuk maf ji.

Gurfateh Sangat Ji, Benti to all, has anyone recently been to Italy, (by plane, not boat, or by foot).. I was wondering what the airport and security checks were like, as there was quite a commotion last year about dastaar's and kirpans being taken off/overly searched. It would be great to get some feedback or any exeprience in regards to this, Dhanvaad, Daas. :cool2:

  14. Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh I know this Gursikh couple who went to watch movie at AMC theatre in Emeryville, CA. While the Singh was waiting in line, he was racially profiled and pulled out by the security guards. He was the only one who was searched as he was wearing a Dumalla. His kirpan was not visible at that point. He was searched and his turban was patted down. They saw the kirpan and asked him to leave the theater. When he tried to give them reasonable explanation, the security personal did not listen and said ," I know about Sikhs". They had to leave and their evening was ruined :-( Now they have started this petition, please sign it https://www.change.org/petitions/amc-bay-street-16-theaters-in-emeryville-stop-banning-sikhs?utm_campaign=share_button_mobile&utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=share_petition United Sikhs traceable petition http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/50846/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=11324 Thank you
  15. US Sikhs applaud lifting of kirpan ban at Gurdwara of Rochester News East-West NEW YORK: With Judge Mathew A. Rosenbaum, Supreme Court Justice in State of New York, delivering his verdict on Friday, a ban that restricted the carrying of the ceremonial sword -‘kirpan’ – at Gurdwara at Rochester in New York has been lifted. A local dispute between two Sikh groups had led a New York court to ban the carrying of kirpan inside the gurdwara in May 2010. Later, the court had allowed only the clergy to carry 6-inch and larger size kirpans. After protests by Sikhs in the US and elsewhere against the ban on their religious right to wear the kirpan, the Akal Takht – the supreme spiritual institution of the Sikhs in Amritsar – appointed a seven-member committee in the US to get the kirpan ban removed, and help the two warring parties at the gurdwara resolve differences. Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh Khalsa, Ambassador of Sikh Religion in the Western Hemisphere, who headed the committee, worked with Dr Bhai Harbans Lal, a noted Sikh activist-scholar, to resolve the issue. Having succeeded in getting the kirpan ban lifted, both Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh and Bhai Harbans Lal say they hope to prevail upon the warring parties to amicably settle their disputes outside of the court. “The Sikh issues should not be dictated by any court of law but rather resolved with prayer and humility,’’ the Sikh leaders said in a statement. “It is important to note that while issuing the order to lift the complete ban on Kirpan at Gurdwara of Rochester, Judge Rosenbaum referred to Sri Akal Takht Sahib as the supreme Sikh authority and acknowledged its influence over Sikh affairs around the globe,’’ the statement said. Bhai Sahib Satpal Singh Khalsa lauded the board of trustees at Gurdwara of Rochester for getting the kirpan ban lifted and mediating to resolve the differences between the two factions. http://newseastwest.com/us-sikhs-applaud-lifting-of-kirpan-ban-at-gurdwara-of-rochester/
  16. How to sharpen your kirpan: {Watch in 720p/1080p) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ ॥ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਹਿ I've seen a lot of Sikhs wearing dull kirpans, some even have their kirpana welded to the miyan which defeats the purpose of wearing a kirpan. I made a short tutorial for the Sangat so everyone can easily sharpen their kirpana that are ready to use if you ever need to protect yourself in self defense or protect others from harms way. Here is a link to the sharpener I bought, it is perfect for the basic taksali kirpans, but I do not recommend using this for more expensive shastars due to the possibility of chipping. 1095 usually have a chance of shipping whereas spring steels like 5160 do not. Whatever it is, if you've paid a lot for your shastar, don't use this and instead get it sharpened with a belt or a water stone, but for basic kirpans this is perfect: Amazon link, current price 6.50: http://tinyurl.com/lbud6ey The main reason I made this tutorial is because of recent events such as London machete incident, ideally a Singh could have taken those atvaadi down and defended the soldier. It's almost beadbi to carry around a shastar that isn't sharp because you won't be able to use it for even a simple task of cutting a kela, let alone defending against a violent criminal out to harm you, your family or others. Please forward this video and 'like' it if you liked it. If you didn't or thought it could improve, please provide feedback.

  20. Kirpan banned in US Gurdwara: Akal Takht summons trustee March 26, 2013 by Punjab Newsline Source: www.punjabnewsline.com Monday, March, 25 2013 - AMRITSAR: In a major decision today the Sikh Clergy that met at Sikhs’ highest temporal seat, Akal Takht here today ordered to summon Santokh Singh Badesha, the main trustee of US based Gurdwara at Rochester for 'explanation’ over 'Kirpan issue’. The Sikh high priests said that Badesh will have to present himself before the clergy in the next meeting, later next month and explain his position over banning Kirpan in US Gurdwara, failing which necessary action will be taken. Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said they have received numerous complaints from US relating the controversy and they were pained to know that the Kirpan, the basic symbol of the Sikhism has been banned in the Gurdwara complex by the Gurdwara management. "He must come and explain his position or face action’’, said Jathedar. Asked that the decision followed the Court’s verdict, he said the Gurdwara management may not have represented the case properly as Kirpan is the basic tenet of the Sikhism and any baptized Sikh wearing it can not be banned from entering Gurdwara. “In a Gurdwara no restriction of any kind on any of the Kakars (Kirpan, Kanga, Kesh, Kachh or Karra) gifted by Guru Sahib, can be imposed by anyone’’, said Jathedar. It had been reported that the trustees of Gurdwara had themselves asked the US Court to bar Kirpans at the gurdwara premises and then went back a second time to ask it to only restrict certain sizes of Kirpan, which Clergy said was uncalled for.In another important decision, the Akal takht once again reiterated to control the volumes of Loud Speakers at the Gurdwaras in wake of the ongoing Examination times of the students. "Earlier also directions had been issued and we want that the same are implemented in totality. The students and patients should not suffer from the high volumes of the Speakers installed at Gurdwaras. The Akal Takht also declared its own website to apprise the people around the world about the Sikhs’ religious programs and other activities from the Takht. The formal opening will be made by SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar on April 1, said Jathedar Gurbachan Singh. Observing Guru Har Rai’s birth anniversary as Sikh environment day, directions to Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to ensure Maryada (Sikh code of conduct) in Pakistan based gurdwaras were some of the other important decisions taken today.

  22. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/compost/wp/2013/03/08/tsa-permits-small-knives-bats-and-golf-clubs-but-holds-firm-on-shampoo/ TSA permits small knives, bats and golf clubs but holds firm on shampoo Posted by Alexandra Petri on March 8, 2013 at 10:47 am Feeling frisky? (John Moore/Getty Images) Initially, the announcement that the TSA was permitting airline passengers to carry small bats onto the plane made me very excited. “Bats on a plane!” I shrieked. “Get Samuel L. Jackson some leathery wings.” But then I discovered that they meant the other kind of bats — under a certain weight and up to a certain length, of course. Wiffle bats are mildly exciting, but they’re no winged bloodsuckers. On Wednesday, the list of things that are considered threats grew even more oddly specific. You can carry a knife on board, so long as it isn’t a dangerous, stabby knife. CNN reports:“Knives with blades that are 2.36 inches (6 centimeters) or shorter and less than a 1/2 inch wide will be permitted on U.S. airline flights as long as the blade is not fixed or does not lock into place. Razor blades and box cutters are still not permitted.” And no large bottles of shampoo! Nope. We can all agree that 2.36 inches of blade pose no significant threat, but if anyone makes it to her destination with enough Pantene to last more than two days — well, that would be letting the terrorists win. Flight attendants are ticked about the move. They may well have a point — especially during the sequester, when lines are promised to mushroom into terrifying sprawls of wretched, red-eyed, unkempt travelers, expanding people’s access to sharp objects may not be the best plan. Tiffany Hawk, the author of “Love Me Anyway,” a forthcoming novel “about two young flight attendants coming of age at 35,000 feet,” and a former flight attendant herself, notes that, “We need faster and easier checkpoints, but instead of coming up with a novel approach, the TSA wants to go backward. Allowing such weapons just doesn’t make sense. Unless, of course, you believe the only thing that will stop a bad guy with a billiards cue is a good guy with a Wiffle ball bat.” I cannot argue with the idea that what we need is faster and easier checkpoints. But that’s exactly what we ain’t going to get. We are still permitted to bring onboard with us many more threatening things. Crying babies, for instance. And airplane food! And hack comics making jokes about babies and airplane food! I would much rather sit next to someone with more than two pool cues. But honestly, contemplate this ban a moment. “Damn and blast!” some terrorist is saying right now. “How did they know that we were using 2.37-inch blades? We have to abort.” “I needed at least three golf clubs,” his colleague adds. “Two just won’t cut it.” “My bat exceeds the weight guidelines,” one of his colleagues murmurs. “How do they know? They’re always so many steps ahead of us!” “We could try something with comically oversized, inflatable bats,” someone says, hopelessly. “Or Wiffle bats!” “Don’t be ridiculous,” everyone hushes him. “Hey, they considered those threats for years,” he points out. “Maybe they saw something we didn’t.” “Or the hip plates of the elderly?” someone else pipes up. “Those seemed risky to them, too. Or, heck, 4-year-olds. In general. They even frisked one. Clearly, we need to dig deeper.” The minor ridiculousness of this change pales in comparison to the absurdity of the system as a whole. This is the sort of oddly specific parsing that ensues when you take the least nuanced approach possible. Talk to people? No. Just have them take off their shoes. Currently, our airport security system does a wonderful job protecting us against whatever has just happened. And forcing us to buy travel-size shampoos. Actually, as a scheme to encourage the travel-size shampoo industry, it is an unmitigated success. If nothing else, it’s been a great way to experience exactly what 3 ounces of liquid is! Just loosening the bans on items that everyone agrees are absurdly innocuous doesn’t necessarily mean we’re moving toward a more sensible policy, though. That seems unlikely. The emphasis is still on the things you carry, not how you carry them. CNN reported: “TSA spokesman David Castelveter said the changes announced Tuesday will not slow down the screening process by requiring screeners to measure knife blades and weigh plastic bats. Screeners will use ‘common sense’ when applying the rule, he said.” Given that the last time screeners were asked to use common sense when applying a rule, they were frisking old men with plates in their hips and 4-year-olds, I cannot say that I am overly optimistic. But you never know. Perhaps I am unduly pessimistic, and this is the beginning of an evolution towards a wiser, more nuanced approach! At this rate, we’ll actually have sensible limits on carry-ons by, oh, 2035 or so.
  23. I am visting the UK House of Commons through a work arranged visit. I have been on their website and it advises that everyone has to go through an airport style security process. There is no mention if Kirpans are allowed through, so I was wondering if anyone has been to the House of Commons and can advise me if I would be allowed to keep my kirpan on throughout my visit
  24. Wahe guru ji ka khalsa wheguru ji ke fathe, Just wanted the members of this site to give me there opinions, on the kirpans . I am trying to make an affordable usable and beautiful kirpan for everyday carry. Yes the design is very similar to a popular produced kirpan, honestly he got it right on the design but not on the price.Hand made Damascus/ wootz 1095 carbon steel with 15n20 nickel about 180 layers. The picture with 3 kirpans are made from a single billet and are cut and shaped accordingly. the other two are made of the same material but the handles are pinned and are not one piece of steal. Both blades should be really strong was just figuring out the best way to making them. This is still in the early stages. Will be torture testing these kirpans to make sure they are battle ready weapons. I still not sure about the sheath. I am working on kydex sheaths now still in design phase. But i am hoping to offer these kirpans for $150-180 dollars usa. I am also working on a economical version at about $90 us dollars. Not really a business for me its more of a hobby and side-project. All version will come with kirpan and sheath. Well i am eagar to read your comments. Wahe guru ji ka khalsa wheguru ji ke fathe
