  2. Today we are releasing a very relevant video that explains why makeup, body enhancements and other artificial and worldly ways to decorate one’s body are not in accordance with Gurmat. This video by Bibi Sanmukh Kaur, a young Canadian born Gursikh bibi, is geared towards Amritdhari bibian who are not fully convinced why they should not use modern techniques to do makeup, wear ornaments and do other body decorations. We give our perspective on why doing makeup is not in accordance to Gurmat and we hope that it will be received by viewers in a positive sense because our aim is not to belittle anyone but we are doing these videos solely with the purpose of educating Sikhs about Gurmat code of conduct and important Gurmat principles. If you find something violating Gurmat, please bring it to our attention by contacting us at +1 647 771 3047 (whatsapp).
  3. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Why is it hard to inspire others to live a Gurmukh lifestyle, when it's meant to be good for people? Also why don't most people learn lovingly, but only want to learn when there is something else involved, (pressure to learn). I hope everyone improves and tries to follow Guru Sahib, but sometimes it just fails. How can I improve myself, so that more people are willing to listen? I feel my heart is in the right place, but nothing happens. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  4. baba Hardev SIngh Lulowale's words on the state of kaum and gurdwarey:
  5. Why do some Pakhandi Babas use Sikh Gurbani to brainwash the innocent? Recently on Youtube I looked-up: "bahut janam bichde the madho", and saw so many Pakhandi Babas on the list of recommended, ranging from Radha Swami, Ravidassia, and some random Pakhandi Babas there and there. If they want to use Sikh bani they should at least promote the idea of Gurmat to bring people to Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib, not themselves.
  6. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Can anyone explain logically why caste still exists in our Panth? Especially among those who tell everyone caste doesn't exist to the outside, but when it comes for actually putting it into practice they forget everything about the right side. There are Hindus today who value their personal caste less than some Sikhs which is just depressing if you asked anyone. Also how can we logically combat this idea in some old-aged Pakhandis minds. Especially among Pakhandidharis, (those who took Amrit yet still keep Non-Sikh practices), which makes people question the need for Amrit. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

    Distracted During Amrit Vela

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Can anyone tell me how to stop being distracted during Amrit Vela; (sometimes I get sleepy, or other times I think about what I'll do during the day when the sun is up, or other nonsense while doing Gurmantar Jaap). Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  8. There are two schools of spirituality - which one do you think sikhi belong to Gyaan marg vs bhakti marg (i) No Symbols of god - he is the universe vs God definitely needs a symbol For sikhs it has become Saroop of sggs and the confines of gurdwara (ii) No rituals are ever needed vs Rituals are a must In sikhi context we have started chavar, akahand paths, jot, sukhasan , prakash , expensive palkis , keep the saroop in AC / blankets (e.g I don't keep my phone in AC which also has the same SGGS in electronic format ) (iii) Meditation is the only way to find him - Pancha ka gur ek dhyan vs chanting or reciting (while mind is wandering in thorughts) or paying others to recite for you (as in outsourced akhand paths ) (iv) No miracles - only laws of nature which do not discriminate against materialistic person or favor spiritual one vs For your worldly needs beseech god - e.g cure diseases, pass exams , success in business etc. (v) No sectarianism - all humanity is absolutely one (Na ko hindu na musalmaan) vs A sect is almost always formed because our ego makes us gel with people who follow same symbolism as us , so now we have sikhi becoming a sect and not much of a way to live a full life and cut the cycle of rebirths.
  9. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Daas wanted to know if Bhagti was inherited, because when pregnant mothers do lots of Bhagti while they are expecting the child usually becomes a person of higher Gurmat; however, there are some mothers who didn't do a lot of Bhagti and their children still turned out great, in terms of Gurmat. Also what can the father do to assist the child's Bhagti before the child is born, because it always seems like the mother's responsibility for Pre-Birth Simran? Also don't bring-up the issues of Mahapurukhs since many are sent by Vaheguru, and have been Pre-Mukt before they came, even Gurbani says they are exceptional. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  10. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh, Daas has noticed that some guy has been spamming nearly every topic trying to advertise their website with the same generic message, (they joined recently, I presume). Daas just felt it was important for admin or mods to cut the spam here. (User)http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/profile/46763-rand/ Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  11. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Something that Daas has always wondered while growing-up was how different Worldly Spirituality was from Gurmat, and in the beginning, Daas used to believe they were similar; however, the two are very different; though there are those similarities that we can recognize. What Daas will be going over is why Gurmat is unique and how worldly spirituality can also prove to be a different spirituality all together from what Gurmat can allow us to do. *(Note, there may be some things that Daas may not exactly have the full answer for, as worldly spirituality is extremely diverse and not united by anything). So hopefully we can fully appreciate the need for Gurmat and have full respect for Gur-prassad. First we will begin with some similarities between the two philosophies, there are a few and many of the things from worldly spirituality can assist us growing in Gurmat, (even though only one of them is truly connecting to Vaheguru completely). Some similarities is that from worldly spirituality the goal is for the individual to be able to connect to something, the really wish to connect to some outer energy which they believe is with everyone, this is similar to Gurmat as we try to connect to Vaheguru through Amrit Vela Simran. Another similarity is both paths require a certain lifestyle change in order to fully progress on a journey; for the worldly it may include some meditation, yoga, food changes, dressing a certain way, as well as limiting intake of intoxicants; for the Gurmat philosophy, we strive to change our lifestyle by doing our Nitnem, (daily prayers), simran, (chanting the Gurmantar: Vaheguru), controlling the effect of the 5 thieves, (lust, anger, greed, pride, and attachment), having some form of bana, (our 5ks), and doing what we can to build up our high qualities and give everything to Vaheguru, and Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Other similarities between the 2 paths include the need for finding a spiritual leader as well as a teacher; for the worldly spiritual people this may include a whole bunch of people with different thoughts of spirituality; while for Gurmat this is Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji-Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. And finally the 2 groups both attempt to answer the questions of life and death; as well as the importance of what to do here and after we leave, (for the worldly spiritual leaders this is diverse; however, each of them attempt to answer it, for Gurmat the answer is too deep to explain in this topic). Now that we got the similarities we should acknowledge the differences between the 2 philosophies. In the worldly spirituality, the instructors usually require a dedication of materialistic things; (such as a lot of money, or gifts), while in Gurmat, Guru Sahib asks only for what one gives with true love and dedication; in Gurmat we give due to our love; while for worldly instructors it is more of a business, (some of these people charge at least $100-$200 per hour). Another major difference is one is in the worldly, the student having to find his way out and inside of their spiritual goals; having to go to how many people; while not knowing for sure what is true and what is not, and is stuck having to think for themselves; while in Gurmat spirituality a student can have guaranteed way of knowing what to believe from Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and not having to be extremely confused on the journey and can read Gurbani for themselves; (some fake leaders charge a lot for spiritual advice of asking questions, without really giving answers and giving vague responses most of the times). But the hugest difference between Worldly and Gurmat, is that in the worldly spirituality the leaders will tell you what they feel will keep you coming and giving their money; while in Gurmat philosophy; Guru Sahib will tell you what you need to hear to save you from 8.4 million lives, because the love Satguru Sahib has for anyone willing to learn from him is much greater than anyone can even imagine, and he would love to free you, even when you may not feel in love with Guru Sahib yourself. These are some differences between Gurmat and Worldly Spirituality. How Worldly Spirituality can help someone on the path of Gurmat, as a different world view? Daas personally feels that Worldly Spirituality can help people because of the importance of that many people try to follow and learn from what they heard, many Sikhs today usually only know what to do; however, usually they don't follow, (and then they get lost). Usually some worldly spiritual people are genuinely interested in learning what to know about their own ideas and always ask questions to find the answers for; we as Sikhs can learn from that because as we ask questions and get answers; our faith in Guru Sahib will increase, sometimes, we need answers to our questions; and Guru Sahib has all the answers we can ever find. Many of the worldly spiritual people wake-up early for their devotional meditations, Amrit Vela is a completely Sikh concept that has been proven as a true time for Bhagti, (this was one of the things worldly spiritual took from Gurmat philosophy, that many of our people have forgotten), it is very important to get-up early for Bhagti. The last main reason worldly spirituality can help those on Gurmat philosophy is; it makes us feel more blessed and realize just how great Guru Sahib is, because while the world is busy finding spirituality which may take an extremely long time; we were blessed with the shortcut, especially if we were born into Sikh families from Gur-prassad; that out of all the people we were chosen to get a step-up and understand truth easily, and we can say Dhan Hai Sikhi, (Great is Sikhi), and finally acknowledge we have everything sorted out for us to rush through the 8.4 million lives and achieve Mukti in this life because of Gur-prassad. Vaheguru, what we must realize is that because of our love for Guru Sahib, we may distinguish those trying to deceive us, and merge with Vaheguru. Through Gur-prassad, we are able to be given a fast-lane of Sikhi to get the ultimate spiritual benefits. While Worldly Spirituality has it's benefits, it does not equal to even a small amount of Gurmat Philosophy. Vaheguru, may we hopefully be blessed to understand just how blessed we are to know about Guru Sahib. Bhul Chuk Maaf Karni, Forgive Any Mistakes From Daas. 12. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh, Daas was recently wondering how he could inspire people to follow Sikhi more, especially with the way the world is going right now. Daas honestly believes that there is something he does wrong while trying to explain the importance of Sikhi just to the the basic people Daas knows. Also there is no true Sarbat Da Bhalla without Sikhi as all other joys are temporary with only Gurmat being permanent joy. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  13. Importance Of Amrit Sanchar: http://gurukisikhi.weebly.com/home/importance-of-amrit-sanchar
  14. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Recently I was seeing something related to Sikhi, just to see what many people actually thought, and I noticed a lot of false information about Sikhs in general, (especially some of whom called themselves Sikhs), a lot of it had to do with Hinduism surprisingly. Why is education for Sikhi this awful? (Do the Pracharks in India not do anything?) Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  15. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Recently as I have been trying to stay on an Amrit Vela, I've felt some sleep problems, (before I was trying to start the routine, I hadn't been a strong person in GurSikhi, also having some strong-minor withdrawal symptoms of previous kaam problems), I want to know if anyone else has this a problem getting to sleep at night, while trying to wake-up early in the morning, and what I can do, (With Gur-prassad of course), to hopefully sleep at the night and be capable of Waking-up early at Amrit Vela, (sometimes I can't sleep until 12 A.M.) Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! (It sometimes makes me feel weak that I can't wake-up early because of sleeping too late).

  18. All of our suffering is of our own making ! This dawned on me from within one of my deeper meditations. Lets see how our mind gets caught up in meaningless , petty things and prevents us from enjoying life to the fullest (i) Financial Suffering Buy only what you need and what you want - limit your needs , helping a kid go to school for example will bring you much more happiness than buying the latest gadget . The most stupid thing to try to do is to keep up with others and put up a show of wealth - its called rat race for a reason - rats start scrambling when they see one rat running , we have a more evolved brain - don't we ? Learn to take pride in your simplicity and even boast about it and others around you will find themselves shamed about their showy/flashy ways. ਏਕੋ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ (ii) Physical Suffering Again almost all chronic diseases - obesity, cancer, heart disease, diabetes etc are a direct result of indulgence - consuming way more calories than our body was ever meant to handle . Keep a simple vegan diet (no milk , fish , dairy , meat) and fast one day in a weak - see your weight come off and all your diseases . Being vegetarian is not enough as we are nevertheless stealing milk that was meant for the calf. Our health has a karmik link like all things in life - when we stop causing suffering to other sentient beings, in return our own well being is tremendously boosted - Dukh an deyi kise Jee Pat Seo Ghar Jaye || Do not harm any being and you will go to your home with honour And Jehre khange Choprey Ghane Sehange Dukh || Those who indulge in lavish food will suffer a great deal. (iii) Emotional Suffering We all have a tendency to carry grudges - someone did or said something bad to us ....take some deep breaths and thank them for it for taking some or our karmic debt off...what happened to us was just a result of our own karma and this person was only the messenger ..in other words akal purakh himself wanted this to happen to us ,if not them it would happen through another person or another means. ਲੇਖੈ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਲੇਖੈ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾਉ ॥ लेखै बोलणु बोलणा लेखै खाणा खाउ ॥ Lekẖai bolaṇ bolṇā lekẖai kẖāṇā kẖā▫o. As it is pre-ordained, people speak their words. As it is pre-ordained, they consume their food. ਲੇਖੈ ਵਾਟ ਚਲਾਈਆ ਲੇਖੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਵੇਖਾਉ ॥ लेखै वाट चलाईआ लेखै सुणि वेखाउ ॥ Lekẖai vāt cẖalā▫ī▫ā lekẖai suṇ vekẖā▫o. As it is pre-ordained, they walk along the way. As it is pre-ordained, they see and hear. Remember there is enough in this world for every being , worry and jealousy are just wasted emotions - we are not truly happy until our happiness is infectious i.e. we make everyone around us happy. Feel free to pm me or on this thread if you need any gurbani tuk for a particular dilemma / suffering you are facing in this maya infested world .
  19. In Which Raag is this shabad being performed in? The shabad itself is in Raag Soohee but is it being performed in Raag Basant? And does anyone have notation for this shabad on harmonium? I really want to learn Raag Kirtan. I have been doing kirtan in tunes I made myself for about a year now and I only recently realized the importance of raag. I found the four volumes Gurmat Sangeet Sagar on discoversikhism.com and I'm trying my best to learn from there myself. Currently I am making an effort to learn Basant and Bahar for the spring season from Sangrand of Magh to Holla Mohalla. If anyone could give me another great source for learning gurmat sangeet that would be great.
  20. many of us are saddened by the fact our political religious and average sikhs cant seem to make Gurmat decisions. whenever they have an opportunity to stand up and represent Sikhi they seem to fail or they choose the side that is the opposite of Sikhi. like the issue of 1984, political prisoners, anand marriage beadbi and a host of other issues the root of the problem is that no one is given a Gurmat education in our community, but we are expected to know everything about Gurmat. think about it, how many people on this forum learned about Gurmat at gurdwara. Mostly None. we learned how to write punjabi and learned couple of stories. Did our family teach us Gurmat, no. did we have a easy access to a place where we could learn santhya katha kirtan and simran, no. then how are we suppose to make decisions that are Gurmat. no wonder our political religious and common sikhs make bad decisions that hurt the panth. they did not get a Gurmat education, no one taught them anything. the most they know is probably hearsay or what they read in newspaper. we have to focus on teaching Gurmat in a systematic way in all gurdwaras, this will help improve all areas where we make bad and anti panth decisions
