Amritsar: Over 12 people were injured when two groups clashed inside the premises of the Golden Temple in Amritsar this morning. The clashes followed an altercation that reportedly happened between the two groups during a ceremony organised to mark the anniversary of Operation Bluestar. Sources say Simranjit Singh Mann of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) reportedly wanted to address the gathering but his demand was turned down by the Akal Takth Jathedar. This reportedly left his supporters angry who then clashed with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee or SGPC task force members. Members of the two groups, seen brandishing swords and lathis, clashed for close to half an hour. The situation is calm now. Heavy security deployment is in place. Amritdhari Sikh attacked, brutally beaten up by miscreants in Amritsar, while police remained mute spectator Amritsar, Punjab (March 15, 2014): As per media reports a Sikh youth was brutally thrashed on Saturday (March 15) by demonstrators in Amritsar for no apparent reason after he asked for a way to reach to his shop near Bhandari Bridge. Activists of various Dalit organizations were protesting at Bhandari Bridge in support of their demands, including construction of a temple at Ram Teerath. Amritdhari Sikh beaten up badly at Amritsar As per media reports [t]he victim, Jasbir Singh, an Amritdhari Sikh youth, said that he had requested the protesters to let him go to his shop, and without any provocation, he was beaten by some of the Dalit youths. He alleged that they removed his turban off his head and fist cuffed him. They also pulled his hair in the presence of some senior police officials. He rued that none of the policemen came forward to rescue him. He said police should book the culprits and also demanded justice. Notably, police officials, who later reached the spot, misbehaved with the media. Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh said the incident was brought to his knowledge, and added that he is also aware of the reports of police officials misbehaving with the media. He said that he has instructed the DCP to look into the matter, and assured strict action against the culprits, who had thrashed Jasbir Singh, and the policemen for their negligence, if any. The Tribune More lodging facility near Golden Temple on cards; SGPC constructing three sarais having around 500 rooms Perneet Singh, Tribune News Service Amritsar, November 29. Come New Year and the pilgrims visiting the holy city to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple will have more and better lodging facilities as the SGPC will be adding around 500 rooms in the form of three sarais (inns) to facilitate a comfortable stay of the devotees. Among these inns, the first is coming up on the premises of Gurdwara Saragarhi, which is at a walking distance from the Golden Temple. Coming up at a cost of Rs 25 crore, the Sargarhi Niwas will have 238 rooms, besides halls. Its construction work is nearing completion and it is likely to be thrown open to the pilgrims in March next year. The 10-storey building will have a capacity to accommodate 2,000 pilgrims. The inn would be equipped with amenities like basement parking, terrace garden, solar water heating system, VRV air-conditioning and rain water harvesting. It will have ultra-modern power supply system, which will save 40 per cent electricity. The SGPC also plans to come up with another inn on the same road after shifting Guru Nanak Girls Senior Secondary School to a different location. The work on the new four-storey school building has also entered its last phase and it is likely to be shifted soon. The design of the new inn over 1,000 sq yds has been prepared. The SGPC is also planning to construct another inn at Baba Sahib Chowk. At present, the SGPC has eight sarais (inns) in the holy city. These are Shri Guru Ram Das Niwas, Shri Guru Nanak Niwas, Shri Guru Arjan Dev Niwas, Shri Guru Hargobind Niwas, Mata Ganga Ji Niwas, Baba Deep Singh Ji Niwas, Mata Bhag Kaur Ji Niwas and NRI Niwas. These inns collectively have 800 rooms. But, not many pilgrims prefer to stay in Baba Deep Singh Ji Niwas and Mata Bhag Kaur Ji Niwas as these are a little far from the Golden Temple. Thousands of pilgrims visit the holy shrine daily and the number goes up substantially during winter and summer vacations. The problem of inadequate accommodation is all the more visible during special occasions like Diwali and Gurpurbs, as the devotees can be seen lying either in the waiting area of the inns or the parikarma of the Golden Temple. Air control monitoring station being set up at Golden Temple By PTI - AMRITSAR Published: 27th November 2013 07:45 PM Last Updated: 27th November 2013 07:45 PM An air control monitoring station will be set up soon in the premises of the Golden Temple at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore to keep surrounding atmosphere hygienic and free from all kinds of pollutions. The system, being put in place by the Punjab Government, will help in protecting the gold plating of the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat said here today. He said all commercial/private vehicles which were over 15 years old and three wheelers more than 10 years old would not be allowed to go inside the old walled city, particularly around the Golden Temple forthwith in order to save and ensure the old grandeur and pristine glory of the shrine. Battery operated vehicles would ferry pilgrims from outer city to walled city, he said, adding diesel operated electric generators too would not be allowed around the Golden Temple. Latest data on road fatalities shows that at least six people died in every 10 road crashes in these two cities in 2012 against only three in Delhi, which recorded maximum fatalities in 2012. Though Mumbai recorded the highest number of accidents among 50 million-plus cities, the fatality rate was only 2%. The 'Road Accidents in India' report prepared by the transport research wing of the road ministry also shows that roads in Punjab are proving to be fatal for commuters. The severity of accident - deaths per 100 mishaps - in the state has been increasing in the past four years. While it was 65.9% in 2009, this increased to 76% in 2012. "Ludhiana and Amritsar are the worst examples. But the state as a whole is also losing over 4,800 lives in road accidents. We have heterogeneous traffic, little enforcement of no-entry timings and huge problem of drink driving," said Dr Kamalzit Singh Soi, vice-chairman of Punjab Road Safety Council. The industrial city of Ludhiana has around 1.4 million vehicles for its 3.5 million people, of whom 20-30% are migrant labourers. Soi said traffic coming from six districts passed through the city and almost 23 km of the under-expansion Panipat-Jalandhar highway runs through the urban area. "On top of this, annually around 35 crore bottles of liquor are sold in the state that has a population of only 2.7 crore. Out of this, around 1.49 crore are women. So, we can make out how many times and how many people drive in a drunken state," he said. The ministry's data also exposes how over 80% of road fatalities are reported from smaller towns and rural areas where there is little or no traffic regulation. Out of the 1.38 lakh fatalities in road accidents last year, 1.21 lakh people died in these areas. States including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana have put a check on fatalities with Uttar Pradesh bringing it down from 21,512 in 2011 to 16,149 last year. Road safety expert Rohit Baluja said there was no traffic regulation or penalty on violations responsible for accidents on highways. "There are all kinds of violations including lane changing, speeding and drunk driving. We talk of traffic rule enforcement only in 12-13 cities, all important state capitals. In urban areas, where deaths have reduced, the main reason is increasing congestion. Focus of traffic police in cities has now shifted to dealing with congestion than managing traffic or enforcement," he said. Baluja also said the crackdown on drunk driving was only confined to private vehicles in cities. Cases of drunk driving accidents decline The continuous decline in accidents caused due to intake of alcohol/drugs in the past three years has come as a breather for the government. While in 2010 such violation caused 31,000 accidents, the number of such mishaps reduced to 23,979 last year. Even the fatalities have fallen from 9,976 in 2010 to 7,835 in 2012. Uttar Pradesh reported maximum fall in fatalities in this category from 4,635 in 2011 to 2,400 last year. Other states that have reported decline include Andhra Pradesh (by 50% in past three years), Maharashtra, Odisha and Rajasthan. However, there was increase in such deaths in states including Bihar, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu for the past three years. To put a check on drunk driving, some state governments have decided not to give fresh licences for liquor shops along National Highways. Some of the cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Jalandhar have intensified crack down on such offenders.

PK Jaiswar Tribune News Service Bal Khurd (Amritsar), August 4 A day after the police-residents clash at Kathunangal in the Majitha constituency, another clash erupted between police personnel and residents of Bal Khurd village, located on the Amritsar- Fatehgarh Churian road, this morning. The police had to use tear gas shells, fire into the air and resort to a lathi charge to disperse the unruly mob. Stones and bricks were thrown at the policemen. Avtar Singh, driver of a police bus, was reportedly injured. Trouble began after a confrontation between a police party of the Kamboh police station and village residents on theekri pehra (night patrol). A police party headed by Sub-Inspector Mohan Singh was stopped by village residents. The policemen were asked to show their identification papers. The villagers alleged that there were sharp-edged weapons in the police vehicle. Some residents reportedly accused the police of being hand in glove with a gang of criminals active in the area. This led to an ugly argument and the village residents gheraoed the police team. They let the police team go on the intervention of senior police officers but did not allow them to take away their vehicle. The following morning, they blocked the Amritsar-Fatehgarh Churian road and a heavy police force was called in. As the residents saw a bus carrying policemen, they started throwing stones. The policemen had to fire into the air to disperse the crowd. As the policemen entered the village, residents standing on rooftops starting throwing bricks at them. Jasdeep Singh, Superintendent of Police (Amritsar- Rural) said the weapons found in the police vehicle had been confiscated. Instructions had been issued to all police teams to seize such weapons from those on theekri pehra. He said a case had been registered against unidentified persons for preventing the policemen from discharging their duty. Meanwhile, several persons have been booked for the attack on the police party at Kathunangal Khurd yesterday. An attempt to murder case has been registered on Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jugraj Singh's statement. The latter, an international hockey player, was injured in the attack.

Whilst carrying the child he was singing the praises of Akaal Purakh. Santji began to see that the child he was holding was very lethargic and unwell. As a consequence he sprinkled water from the Amrit Sarovar and began to recite Sri Sukhmani Sahib Ji. Eventually Santji after spending the day at Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahibji Santji took the child back to Dharamsala Sri Guru Nanak Devji Dasan Das Shaam Singh. All along the child's mother had followed Santji and now she entered the Gurudwara Sahib. When she saw that her child was very alert and playful she fell at the feet of Sant Baba Sham Singhji. Santji realised she was the mother of the child and immediately said why are you thanking me? I have done nothing! Go to Teerath Raaj Maharaj Sri Amritsar Sahib - and thank Satguruji the king of kings, the saint of saints and the ocean of compassion. After remaining in active politics ever since giving up his job as a Commandant of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in Bombay protesting against the Operation Bluestar in 1984, Mann, along with his party Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), has finally decided to give up electoral politics for “lack of funds”. The decision to “quit” the electoral politics, it is believed, was also the upshot of party’s constant dismal performance in both parliamentary and Assembly elections. “SAD (Amritsar) would not contest Lok Sabha polls or Punjab Assembly polls in the coming future. We do not have money power unlike other political parties, that made it really hard for us to match their potential,” Mann said. He added that the lack of funds eventually result in defeat of party’s candidates in one after another polls. SAD (Amritsar) is registered with the Election Commission of India as Shiromani Akali Dal (Simranjit Singh Mann) -a splinter group of the Shiromani Akali Dal. The party’s biggest success was during the 1989 parliamentary elections, when it won six seats out of 13 in Punjab, winning 29.19 per cent of the popular vote. The party also managed to bag one parliamentary seat of Sangrur constituency in 1999, out of the total share of 13 in Punjab’s kitty. After that, the party has failed to fare well in the previous two elections held in Punjab. Active supporter of Khalistan - an independent State for the Sikhs, Mann vowed to work for the cause of Sikh panth in future also. Stating that his aim would not be the Indian Parliament or Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Mann indicated that the party would participate in the Sikh bodies’ elections, including the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). But how does he look at his exit from active politics? “It will be a big setback to the democratic setup of the nation. It is bad that a political party had to quit electoral process, and that because of paucity of enough funds,” said Mann. He said: “SAD (Amritsar) is based on strong ideology and is forced to opt out of the electoral politics as it does not have enough funds to woo the voters like other parties, thriving on muscle power and ill-gotten money.” Mann resigned from his last posting on June 18, 1984, in protest of Indian government troops attack on the Amritsar’s Golden Temple. He was, subsequently, dismissed in July from the Indian Police Services. Mann also went underground after learning that the Punjab police had issued a circular with shoot-to-kill orders of Mann in June 1984. He was first arrested on November 29, 1984 with four others while attempting to cross into Nepal from the State of Bihar. He spent five years in the Bhagalpur prison in solitary confinement. Having a shady past, Mann has been arrested or detained around 30 times but has never been convicted.

When considered with the wider perspective of a minor alleged assault on Brar, the hysteria eagerly whipped up by collaborating media about the memorial is a sure way of deflecting attention away from its self-created problems that threaten to topple its government. It is a tried, tested and proven method of scaring the Indian electorate into allowing Congress to retain its loose grip on a population that is day by day losing confidence in its ability to properly utilise the vast funds available for its disposal (as the GOI). At least, that is, to the benefit of anyone other than its senior ministers and their families(!) See "Robert Vadra" and "Salman Khurshid" (for a couple of more recent shambles out of the broader series of illicit dealings to emerge from the corrupt Congress machine). Revelations about rampant corruption within the Congress Party are now emerging so fast that a new exposee emerges before the last had any time to settle down. It must be ruing the day Anna Hazare came out of nowhere to emerge as its nemises. The way things stand, Congress looks set to receive a humiliating drubbing at the next polls. Its UPA allies are already withdrawing support and we haven't even reached election time. Amidst this backdrop, it becomes clear why the Congress Party is reverting to its yellowy divisive and diversionary politics of yesteryear (think "Indira" and "Rajiv"). Its desparation will only increase as it approaches the Elections, so expect to see more of the same. That's why I see the minor alleged assault on Brar as part of the above struggle to retain power. Therefore, I am not too concerned with the Congress Party controlled Indian media spin on Brar. The truth will out. And to an extent, much of it already has. Let the investigation reveal the rest. I have read some excellent articles by several commentators, not least by T Sher Singh, Dal Khalsa and SF-UK, which in my opinion are the best pieces of analysis I have read on the topic, that have already comprehensively taken Brar's allegations apart to pieces and ripped his continuously changing story to shreds. Enough has probably already been said about the Brar alleged minor "assault" episode/stunt.
