The Gurmukh (follower of the Guru's (Gur) words (mukh)) used to go to sadh sangat every day and have darshan of Guru Nanak Dev ji do seva and come home. The manmukh (follower of his mind's (man) mukh (words) ) used to go to meet a prostitute. One day the GurMukh said come with me to the sadh sangat, after some persuasion the manmukh agreed, on the way the manmukh remembered his prostitute and backed out of going to the sadh sangat. He said I'm going to go to my normal activities but I'll meet you at the tree across the road tonight. The manmukh went to see the prostitute but she wasn't there so he arrived at the tree much earlier than expected. While waiting for the Gurmukh he started poking a twig into the ground. He found a gold coin, he quickly dug more and more but he only found a pile of ashes. When the Gurmukh returned he was limping along he'd stepped on a thorn. The manmukh said I do my dirty deeds and get good luck you do good deeds but get bad luck. The Gurmukh said lets ask Guru jee to explain. Guru ji told the manmukh, in your previous life you donated one gold piece to a Sant, for doing such a virtuous deed you were to recieve the rewards in this life of many gold coins. But because of your sinful deeds you burned your reward away and were left with your original gold coin. The Gurmukh was told, in your previous life you killed someone with a wooden spear, in this life you were to be killed in the same way, but because of your seva to the Guru you bad deed has been reduced to being pricked with a thorn. MORAL: The Pains and pleasures one gets in this life are heavily influenced by past actions, not just in this life but in countless previous lives. When people suffer at the hands of others its because they made that person suffer in a previous life. Most people will take revenge and so the cycle of making each other suffer continues life after life. A mythical story to explain this is of a goat and a butcher. The butcher would kill the goat in one life ,the goat' soul would be reborn as a butcher and the butcher's soul would be reborn as a goat. In the next life the butcher would kill the goat and so the cycle continued. Then in one life the butcher received a customer who only wanted a goat's leg. The butcher thought if I kill the goat and sell the leg the rest of the goat will rot away. So what he thought was I'll just chop the goat' leg off and bandage the wound, that way the goat will stay alive until the next customer. Just as he was about to cut the leg, the goat spoke 'O Butcher, what's this new bad action you're starting? Life after life we keep swapping roles to cancel our actions, but if you chop my leg now and make me suffer in the next life I'll do the same to you and you'll suffer too!'
  2. Dear Sangat Ji, I just wanted to say thanks for all your well wishes, hopefully should be ok real soon.....pain in my neck is quite bad, and back has started to hurt too... I just wanted to say, Taksali Singh Ji, Im really NOT much of a Gursikh at all, hopefully this incident WILL teach me a lesson or two...
  3. WOW !! veerji i just read ur story and i am really glad u and ur bibi ji r aite !! Dhan waheguroo ji !! Just another question to add on .. just wondering if ur bibi ji also wears a keski ?? And would she want to know if not after this incident.. just curious .. Hope everything else is fine.. also would want to know how the other car drivers r who ran into u, are they ok ?? Hanji, the other drivers were fine and there cars weren't damaged no where near as bad as ours, as you've read, it can't be fixed etc, its just scrap now... Nah, my bibi ji doesnt wear a keski and I doubt she would wear one e ither, its one of those things I guess...she wasnt instructed to wear one etc and is used to just covering her head with a chuni...
  4. Hanji jio, I was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, had I not been wearing it, the outcome would have been trully tradgic...
  5. Dear Sangat, I haven’t been on the internet for the past few days due to a horrific incident which took place, I would like to share this with you, and hope it provides inspiration…I won’t go into great details as it would take too long, but I will provide a kind of in-depth overview… This is a recent incident which took place on Sunday 16th January 2005… The day It was the usual Sunday morning and I was just leaving the house with my bibi/grandmother to go to the gurdwara at 9am, and we left as usual, the day was as any other. The route to the gurdwara involves going along a dual carriageway…as I got on to the dual carriageway, there are three lanes and I got into the one on the far right… I realised that the traffic lights were out, I am a cautious driver and noticed this from afar, thus I looked carefully at the first junction which appeared to my right hand side, I was travelling between 35 and 40mph as it was a 40mph road. As I approached the second junction to my right hand side, I noticed a car was there, BUT I assumed that he would stop his car as I was coming (and it was also MY right of way, as I was travelling on the MAIN road, he was coming from a side road…)…BUT he didn’t stop…he kept going… The Horrific accident The other guys car came straight into my side (i.e. the driver’s side) and I was pushed with the force across to the left, and at the same time, another car hit me from behind…I lost control of the car and the car went straight into the barriers on the left side (i.e. I had been thrown/pushed across three lanes into the railings/barriers on the left side)…I jerked from side to side, and back to front as you could imagine, b y bibi whos in her 70’s also received severe jerking to her head…I was really worried about my bibi and continually asked her if she was OK, and she was worrying about me… I was soo lucky and THANK Waheguroo Ji sooooo MUCH because with ALL the knocking and jerking to my head, my dastaar completely came off and fel behind where my bibi was sitting (i.e. the passengers seat) and my kangha went flying to the other side, my hair opened up everywhere…the point is this…IF I was a mona (i.e. someone with haircut etc) I would have been seriously injured as my head would have smashed into the window…BUT because I had my dastaar (a blessing along with Gursikh life/receiving amrit) on, I was saved! Although obviously I was upset that my dastaar completely came off and my kangha fell out, I could accept that… Some road workers who were present at the time of the incident quickly ran to our car to see if we were ok…they must have called the police etc I went to grab my keski and quickly wrapped it around my kesh and put my kangha into my kurta pajama pocket…by this time the fire brigade, 8 or more police officers and the ambulance had arrived…we were taken to hospital… Afterwards My bibi has high blood pressure and the shock of the accident raised her blood pressure as you could imagine, a neck brace was put around my bibi’s neck and she was put onto a flat board and carried to the ambulance…as we thought she might have fractured her neck/upper back…as she had pain in these regions along with her head… The car I was told immediately by the police that the car was a rite-off (i.e. incapable of being fixed etc) and the damage to the car was pretty horrific…my seat (drivers seat) hd come off the railings and I was kind of hanging backwards, the two doors opened and wouldn’t close, the boot was jammed and wouldn’t open…the front tyre on the left side had gotten severly bent, and there was immense damage to the front of the car…I wasn’t aware of much of this du e to the shock of what had just happened…but I was later told by my brother and dad who got to the scene and were really shocked to see the car… The doctor at the hospital said I was very lucky that I didn’t receive any sever injuries based upon the account of what had happened…my dad even commented that we (me and my bibi) must have really good karam that we were saved… This made me think about things, I’m still in shock about what happened and have some injuries, nothing serious though…I will be going to the doctors today as I have pains which seem to have just arose some time after the accident…in my neck and back etc… This made me ponder over the following Gurbani tuks: so siqguru ipAwrw myrY nwil hY ijQY ikQY mYno ley CfweI ] so sathigur piaaraa maerai naal hai jithhai kithhai maino leae shhaddaaee || That Beloved True Guru is always with me; wherever I may be, He will save me. siqguru myrw sdw dieAwlw moih dIn kau rwiK lIAw ] sathigur maeraa sadhaa dhaeiaalaa mohi dheen ko raakh leeaa || My True Guru is always merciful; He has saved me, the meek one I am forever thankful to Waheguroo for saving us, as through my dastaar I was saved from severe head injuries, this was because my dastaar took the force/impact of being thrown from side to side, forwards and backwards etc… I guess this is one of those incidents which will change my life FOREVER…the way I will view things AND the way I live… Thank you for reading this…I hope it inspires you and makes you think about the ‘dastaar’ in a new light, apart from the usual arguments as to WHY is it important for Gursikhs…this shows how it played a role in saving someone from severe and serious injuries… P_Singh

  8. Sangat Ji, In light of the comments made by some people on this board regarding 'lecithin', I did some research myslef and found that it does correctly come from eggs... I was reading some of the 'ingredients' on the back of chocolates by Nestle and found that common chocolate bars such as Kit Kat, Aero etc said that they contained 'lecithin', so I was like and decided to write to the company via e-mail. This is what I wrote: I would like to know about one of the ingredients in your products; specifically found in many chocolates which you mass produce. I would like to know the source of the ingredient 'lecithin' which is commonly found in products such as KitKat, Aero etc. Does Lecithin come from eggs? I would like to know, as I am a strict vegetarian and did not know that this product came from eggs until recently. I would appreciate it if you could please get back to me as soon as possible and would like to thank you in advance for your help. and they replied today with: Dear Mr Singh Thank you for your recent enquiry via email. May we first apologise for the delay in our reply. We use soya lecithin in our confectionery. Please visit our website on www.nestle.co.uk and go to the 'Nutrition' section and click on 'free from list'. You can choose from the following; Egg, Gluten, Milk and Soya free lists as well as lists for Vegetarian and Vegan diets. Thank you once again for taking the trouble to contact us. We hope that you will continue to enjoy our products in the future. Kind Regards I also checked out their link: visit: http://www.nestle.co.uk/nutrition/freefrom...reefrom_egg.pdf BUT, you still gotto be careful of some food products which contain lecithin, as it could very well come from eggs! Be careful sangat ji! :TH:
  9. "oh yeah, and you guys mean the whole kirpan or juz blade size?......."
  10. Thanks for ALL your advice so far... PLEASE keep on posting... Yeah, I LOVE Akhand Keertan, BUT I'm NOT at the stage of doing like any shabads or anything, just started learning really... I guess it'll take time, but eventually should be able to do a range of shabads in different raags, starting with simple ones first Theres a misconception that Akhand Kirtan is NOT in raag, when it is, some may not be, but usually most kirtani's keep to raag, well the one's I've heard anyways... LOL Taran Ji, I'm not a budha!
  11. Just a question.... When you say you wear a 9" kirpan/siri sahib...what are you referring to, i.e. the blade or the whole kirpan? a) Is it like 6 inches blade and 3 inches handle OR b) the blade itself is 9 inshes (and like 3 more inches for the handle part?) This follows...how would you wear it underneath your shirt/t-shirt etc without it showing? :T: PLEASE....someone answer this...
  12. Waheguroo Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguroo Ji Ki Fateh! To all of you out there (i.e. on this message board...LOL)..who can do kirtan or have been learning the vaja etc...PLEASE could you give tips on the following: How long does it take to be able to learn properly the keys on the vaja etc? Any advice/tips for speeding up the process OR generally for like improving your voice etc? I know theres this one tape where the guy does a whole range of voice related exercises to improve your voice sound etc, BUT I've not listened to it yet, but been told it works! I know people will probably say 'you can't really say how long it will take to learn the vaja/baja as it depends on the person etc' BUT like is there something you could do, like a certain amount of practising a day or something? I've ONLY just starting learning and my voice sounds WHACK! Like these expressions... ... ... ...probably likely to make someone turn around and be like ' ' ! ! ! I'm still doing the saa reh gaa maa paa daa ni saa Thanks in advance...
  13. "Along on stage is Bhai sahib bhai Randhir Singh jee's look alike" Thats what I first thought of when I saw the video, I was like Is that Gursikhs keertan online anywhere too? Lol, I'm still like ....what did I just see, rather who did I just see??
