  1. I'm sure you can find someone of your own caste. Without trying to find a girl of another caste. Seems like your looking for perfection. Let me give you a little advice. All women are the same when it comes down to it. Just go for one before it's to late. Seems like some just have convenient excuses. To enjoy the single life.
  2. I have already done university studying ect. So that does not apply to me. Obviously it's a different matter if we suddenly go now back to India in the present time. As well will face so many obstacles. Uni, job, house, family, finances ect. That is why I said ' if we never left in the first place'. I have many relatives back home who are doing exceptionally well. Many are very wealthy and have businesses and property portfolios. One of the biggest things I like. Is seeing my relatives in nearly 100 percent Sikh areas. Also as someone who is very connected to my desi side. I think I would fit in very well back home I personally feel more.connected to my faith and roots back home then in the UK.
  3. Maybe they are being to fussy and aiming for super model. When they should go for some more suitable who is on the same level as them?
  4. Good point actually. I think priority should always go with starting a family over a career. But in today's money driven society people place greater importance on work life. Maybe this could also explain why Sikhs have less kids these days also. In the olden times the family structure was different. There were plenty of people in the household to look after the kids. Now a days. Kids are to difficult to manage by the parents themselves so they have less. In the previous generations.of Punjabis. It was a given that they would have around 6 - 8 kids minimum, with 6 being the norm and average. Now a days parents are happy with 2.
  5. Yep marrying young is key. Not to young though. 25 is a good age to marry. People often regret when they leave it to late. You need to be young and health to look after your kids.
  6. I made a topic about something similar a while back. Alot of Christians are not that intelligent. They just do what their leaders tell them to do. Which is go out and convert. Christians missionaries need to be kicked out of Punjab. But our do goody leaders have probably given the missionarieys a langar service. It time Sikhs got tough and showed what we are made of. Christians pose a great danger both in Punjab and the UK. Something needs to be done. Imagine if Christian missionary started in Pakistan. They would be all jailed and executed. The thing is what can we actually do? It's down to Sikhs in Punjab to sort this out. We can't do anything from the UK.
  7. First of all men in turbans can do far worse the beating a woman with a stick. Just because you have a turban on. That does not make your sh1t smell of lavender. This topic is about western Sikhs and desi Sikhs and which have it better. While our lot back in India. Ie Mumbai, Delhi, punjab ect live in peacefull Sikh areas. We live in Islamic areas in the UK. Which have it best? When I visit Punjab and other Sikh areas of India. I feel more at home then the UK. Where I am a minority.
  8. To be honest I don't think is quite right. Punjab and whole of India was a complete sh1t hole back in the 50's to 90's. Hence Sikhs did well to migrate to a better land that offered more opportunity ect. The thing is. Punjab and some parts of India now are thriving. They are no longer the places they once were when our ancestors left. They are now more attractive places to live. Would you not like to live in a Sikh majority area? Gurdwaras and historical places on your doorstep and many more positives. Or do you enjoy cold, dull boring Britain. That is just a tiny little crime ridden country full of goreh.
  9. I sence a certain amount of islamaphobia. Probably caused by staying in so much during the lock down and thinking to much. Best get exercising and keep mind occupied. But yep true. Muslims will probably form majority areas in the UK soon. To be honest I think UK has been going down hill for a while now. So much crime, inter religious disharmony, no social cohesion. UK had its hay day once when it was a good country to live in. Now if has become a crime ridden sh1t hole. Especially London, Birmingham. But that be said. There's plenty of nice places to live that are not over populated by assamolakums.. Sikhs are a wealthy community. If it gets to heated living in UK. Then they can always move abroad. Anyone who is English has a right to work and live in any European country. Spain could be one.
  10. But it depends on the person I suppose. many UK born Sikhs are so westernised that they have completely lost touch with their faith and roots that they would dread to leave the UK and hate Punjab and the country of their ancestors.
  11. I think its actually called step dancing. lol when they kick their legs in a rigid fashion. maybe it is simlar to bhangra.. I have alot of relatives in Scotland and Wales. They are beautiful scenic places so much grenenery and mountains ect. Above all the native people are very nice and lower then average muslim poulations. In those places theres alof of Sikhs there already. Theres actually many areas in the uk that Sikhs could mass migrate to, These include the following that all have Sikh communities presentley there. Areas were Sikhs could look to go and dominate in Britian Southampton, Bristol, Newcastle, Norwich, cardiff, edinburgh, kent, portsmouth, essex. These are great cities, have good education facilities, jobs and up an comming areas. The thing is us Sikhs are to thinly scatterted all over th uk. We are not like a muslim community that dominates one area.
  12. Yep I went there on via ferry a while ago. It was a nice place. The Irish are very friendly people. Theres great views on the coasts. I think most people know who Sikhs are now. Due to Sikh channels which everyone has access to. They might not much about the faith but definantly know Sikhs between hindus and muslims and know we are distinct faith and community.
  13. What about Republic of Ireland? It's a beautiful country very near and has very low Muslim population. Their country is not like the UK. Where they let anyone in. Also The irish and Sikhs are very similar. Many Irish would welcome us there as they know the difference between Sikhs and Muslims. We could all start learning some Irish lap dancing first though. Other options Scotland Wales Scandinavia Poland Russia There are many island around the world. That are waiting for mass Sikh migration.
  14. That was my thinking also. So why do people get married so late these days. They did not know the health implications of late pregnancy? Ovaries and eggs are all affected by our age. Yet people still wanna enjoy being single.
  15. How is everyone coping with the lockdown? Which is obviously necessary to stop the virus spreading. I have so far kept as safe as possible. No going out except for excercise and essentials. Usually I am so busy with work and other outdoor activities. Gym, sports, social. It seems strange that we just have to stay indoors 24/7. But the positive is we now have so much time to do things we have been putting off. Ie gardening, home diy, . On the plus side I am finding that I now have time to engage in hobbies that I never had time to do before such as cooking. I am also exercising more the I have done before. Jogging, cycling.. I'm discovering new recipes to make. So far I have made. Homemade pizza, missi roti. Many more new recipes to try out. lol It's a great way to pass the time and discover new healthy and tasty foods. Also I have been doing the odd bit of gardening. It all helps to keep busy and active. There have sadly been reports that domestic violence is on the increase due to increased tensions at home.. Also people are turning to drink and over eating.
  16. I actually felt like this when I was younger. in fact hated the thought of living in India. Due to heat, dusty roads, mosquitos ect.. but it's alot different now then it was back then. India has dramatically changed in the last 15 - 20 years or so. Go to big cities like Mumbai, bangalore ect, dehli. They have become so modernised and now have everything. Luxury cars, houses, transport. If you have the money you can get anything you want there. It's becoming a superpower. There's so much wealth and prosperity. Obviously it still has poor parts and there is great wealth disparity. Major improvements I've seen. Better roads, cars, trains, transports. Education, lesuire facilities. Better hotels, accomodation. Big modern shopping centres, malls complexes. Better and cutting edge hospitals. It's is not the place that our ancestors left in the 50's and 60's. Back then there was nothing in India.
  17. As a typical UK born Punjabi, I along with many others, whose ancestors came from the Punjab, (Amritsar in my case) or other parts migrated to the Britain back in the early 50's and 60's. We along with many other Sikh communities and Indians in general from back home, came over for a better life and opportunities. We western born British Sikhs are considered ' the lucky ones'. The ones that escaped the harsh life of India at the time and were able to improve our welfare and fortunes by being able to have the means to get a ship and ticket to the so-called promised land. Think about it, out of millions of Punjabis, our ancestors where select few who managed to get here while so many others just like us failed in their endeavour to reach these shores. But are we really that lucky or blessed to have been the tiny minority of Punjabis and Indians who made it to the UK from India, our home country? Out of the millions of Sikhs who tried and desperately wanted to come over but could not for some reason or the other. However, I sometimes wonder if we would have been better off if we actually stayed in India and did not migrate to the UK. Even though we are considered the lucky ones who managed to get to the west and win the golden ticket. Are we truly accepted here and feel this is our true home? Our roots, religion, culture, customs and traditions, language you name it comes from India (Punjab) We are just a tiny minority and percentage out of billions of brown people to be here. When I go back to India. I really feel that I belong there more and get this feeling that this is my country and roots and not the same feeling while in the UK. Being someone who has travelled back to India on a number of occasions and been all over extensively from North to South. I have seen that Indians/Punjabis back home seem to be happier and more content bunch then us Western Punjabis who are perceived to be in a better country. In fact people back home have become even wealthier then us and prospered more. In terms of family life, wealth ect. Good things I have seen back home in terms of lifestyle/happiness/career ect compared to UK Punjabis. Back home people are a more close-knit and caring community. They have a good sense of togetherness due to living with people of the same faith, culture and values as them. Everyone knows each other and helps one another. Everyone mixes more with their relatives and have better family relations in the community. Which is a stark difference to the UK state of affairs. Where people don’t see their own family due to in fighting and have poor relations. Sikhs in the west are increasingly growing up in broken homes due to very high divorce rates in the west. While back home divorce is very low compared to UK. Yes it may not be perfect but it feels more like home then the UK. Back home they live in communities and areas that are 90% plus Sikh and hence have opportunity to have friends/Sangat, work colleagues of the same religion. Whereas we live in areas and communities where we are small minority and heavily outnumbered by other religions and races. Many of us live in white dominated or muslim populated areas. I actually had this pointed out by a relative from india. Who said he could not believe how many Muslims where in the UK and why I was living in these areas heavily populated by them. Whereas he lived in nearly 90% Plus Sikh area back home. Going back to the good things back in Punjab. They have beautiful Gurdwaras and mandirs on their door step, un paralleled natural beauty such as lush greenery, mountains and landscape. They live in a huge and varied country with many different communities living side by side all of which are similar to us. To summaries what is better back home the in the UK Better family relations and community spirit. As opposed to the UK where families have broken down and divorce rate is very high. So many broken families. Kids growing up without both parents in the same household. They live in Sikh dominated areas, nagar kirtans and sikh events on their door step. More spiritual and blissful place to be in touch with our faith and roots. I have noticed sikhs in punjab are more united the in the UK. Negatives of living in the UK Basically, the opposite of Punjab. No community spirits. Lack of family, society cohesion and togetherness. Many people live isolated away from sangats. High crime rates. Lack of acceptance, many people do not like Asians. In fact multi culturalism has not worked in Britain at all. Everyone is a stranger to each other and there is a lack of social cohesion amongst the different races and religions of Britian. Most people live in streets where they don’t know their neighbours and are complete strangers. Which is completely different back home where everyone is close knit and ready to help their neigbours ect. Back in India, Sikhs, hindus Jains, Buddhists all live side by side in peace in a multi faith society without any issues.UK has dull, grey and cold climates. Houses and roads all look the same and grim. Whereas back home there are beautiful villages Ie beautiful colourful architecture homes. We face racism and discrimination in the work place. Have to work under racist managers and colleagues. Be it in university’s and work places.Anyone else feel we would have been better off where we was?
  18. Im happily married. Got married when I was 32. Which is late I know. But I had a good reason for that I would rather not disclose. If I could I would have married when I was about 25/26. Which I think is ideal but nothing wrong with marrying even earlier at 22-24.. Its great as you will see more of your kids growing up and be healthy to look after them. But seen so many people in the sikh community without any good reason waisting away their years and not marrying and their hitting their fortys in the sikh community. They are old and lonely and scared of marriage. Like they cant handle commitment and settleing down with one person for the rest of their lifes.
  19. What is the issue with today's generation of Sikhs. Ie in the last 20 years so? Our Sikh boys and girls are putting off marriage and getting wed far to late. It's almost become like a trend where they are putting of this most important aspect of Sikhi to reproduce and start a family life. It seems our lot just want to enjoy the single life, party, date and not have responsibility of a partner and kids. Sikhs are getting married in their late 30's and then as a consequence they have low fertility levels due to fertility decreasing in age. Many seem scared of marriage when they should not be. It's almost like everyone labels marriage as a boring thing, best to avoid until the last minute as it's some kind of jail sentence When marriage is a beautiful thing and should not be seen as this. At the same time Muslims get married in their 20's and churning out kids like no tommorow. Are lot seem like their still trying to find themselves and figuring life out. I can understand someone saying they first want to get a job and become financially secure and be a grown rounded individual before tying the knot and starting a family. But that should not take you to be the age of 38 to do that. While Muslim average marriage is is about 24 -27 Our lot are a decade behind.
  20. That is actually a big mis conception and quite mis leading The British actually only allowed a few Muslims in.. This was due to a surplus jobs in the factories. The British never envisaged that these few Muslims that were let in in the 60's to 80's would breed and have 8 kids each. Ie if the Pakistani people in the UK had Same birth rate as white English people at the start of their migration.Ie max 2 to 3 kids. There would about 400.000 Pakistanis in Britain right now instead of 1.4 million.. it's just simple maths... They've bred and had to many kids. Often these kids are out of control and on the streets into crime. The British had no idea about the way Asians would breed. So the answer is they never let 'to many in'. Their big population is a result of high birth rate.
  21. Alot of these shops are not ownwed by a single person. Ie like a typical english man owning a business. he is usually the sole owner. Most muslim Take away shops or shops in genreal are co owned. ie between about 10 people. Thats why there are so many muslim businesses and shops. they are all jointly ownwed hence the reason they can afford to run them. Look at many muslim shops. there are about 6 differnt busnesses operating from one shop. Henc they can afford the rent..
  22. Along as Corona gets sorted and the Chinese can stop eating bats. I think everything will get back to normal.
  23. That is right to a degree. The Hindu warrior empires where not unified as they should have been. Also the Hindu rulers were not fully aware of the threat that Muslims posed. They did not know how fanatical they would turn out to be. Ie mass converting people. If they knew what the Muslims would do. ie mass killing and converting non Muslims. Then they would never have helped or sided with them. They realised their mistake at the end and then they defeated the mughals with the mahrati empire.
  24. Some Sikhs would say that all faiths including Islam are the absolute truth. So "some"Sikhs view Islam as a religion as good as as any other out there. As all lead to the one. I don't agree with this though.
  25. With the corona virus lock down. We all know the amount of hardship and suffering people we will go through due to amount of victims of the Virus. But could their be any benefits from this global pandemic? Usually many people are so busy in their lifes with working, travelling, socialising and doing all kinds of activities to keep their minds occupied. Such as gym, pub, clubs you name it. But now comes a unique juncture in peoples lifes a unique opportunity to look back on their lfes and look forward. They now have so much time to do important things that they could never do before. They actually have time to reflect on their lifes and think about their direction in life. Ie what is really important and what is not. Positives out of corona I can think of A time to rest and recupirate time to spend on new goals. such as learning a new language or doing an online course. We are no longer in the rat race. But can breathe a little more. Less wrok stress and more time sit back, enjoy our gardens and get back to nature. I have visited a few nature spots and it was good to be able to do things like this. Any other benefits of the lock down?
