    The definition of pitting is : make a hollow or indentation in the surface of.- like small indentations from rust eating into the blade. these blades have next to nothing pitting in that definition.I would refer to the stains as stable oxidation of the steel rather than active rust or the after effect e.g pitting. That would be my understanding

    yes wootz isn't available today nor do indian bladesmithes fold their blades. they are use a produce to fake the similar patterns that of wootz and folding. most stuff out of indian is made of kamani steek ( tank axles ) or just iron. the odd skela or spring steel comes along but nothing in terms of wootz , folded or carbons steel of 18th c.

    they are from a private collection , the sirohi is of rajastan typical style and the tulwar is fom lahore , likely sikh due to lahore being the captial of sikhs,

    its sad to say most Sikhs aren't even interested in items such as original jung tested and jung worthy shaster relating directly to their heritage and dharma, whilst goray are collecting them like pokemon cards and sell them like any other antiques.

    @BhForce it comes with experience and handling antique arms and armour day to day. as it is the same with puratan manuscripts. most sikhs can't tell the difference between a real live blade and a dull showpiece, in regards to weight, edge retention, fit , feel ,shape, you can tell from the quality of the finish , the colour, the thickness of the old and silver work, the designs, polishes etc. etc. most sikhs can't tell the difference between a real antique and a fake aged one from India due to the lack of gyan in that area. Whatever area you study you become proficient in that mode of study.
