  1. Perhaps Simran Bhenji this person might have the answer. http://www.punjabrise.com/dukh-bhanjani-beri-amritsar-details-history-video-story/
  2. Dear penjis I am not trying to tell others to be celibate. Its just an exploration of why people turn that way. Apologies if you think it directly applies to you. Its a topic which people have tried to explore in the past too.
  3. Simran penji imagine a seesaw with celibacy on one side and lust at the other. If they balance none wins. The lighter side goes up. If lust decreases with the practice of simran celibacy is possible. If lust increases then celibacy is not possible and people back out and get married or whatever else they be influenced to do.
  4. Good point - don't worry. There are quotes on lust though. Lust is different from procreation. Why did Mata Ganga have to go to Baba Buda Ji for blessings to get a son ..... the taking of life and giving it is not in our hands. How was Jesus born when Joseph did not come to meet Mary. That is besides the point anyway. We are not saying love and sex is bad. We are here talking about lust which can become an obsession and waste life. The following is what Gurbani says about LUST (and sex outside marriage) not sex in married life... so Gursikho keep on multiplying peacefully. Many people especially youngsters learn about sexual matters from films, gossip, loose characters and maybe parents too never get to explain the right attitude. People indulge in porn, promiscuity, cheating on their partners and portraying a loose character and still consider themselves to be Sikhs. These lines are meant to educate you what your own Gurbani says about these matters. Most people do not bother to study or just do not know. Many are stuck with the complete wrong attitudes thinking that what they are doing is right and this is what it means to be westernised. These lines are meant to show you what Guru Ji says about such behaviors. Wasting your time and energy on these things and not doing any simran is what the result of these activities is. So we need to devote time to simran so that we can be saved from these vices. Only the naam can save you - nothing else.
  5. Experience and common sense. Will check gurbani for quotes if I get any bhaji.
  6. If someone is completely devoted to Guru Ji they will be celibate. is what I said Bhaji... clearly stating that celibacy applies to everyone else exempting the Gurus. The Gurus were able to lead grisht jeevan without falling into the same types of attachments which we are prone to falling into. A soul which has not quite reached that sort of perfection may like to get rid of all distractions and devote all their time to bhagti as much as possible. A normal person when they get children will obviously stop or reduce doing their path to some extent. The Gurus however were above this as Guru Nanak Dev ji left behind his family to go and preach all over the Indian continent. Guru Gobind Singh Ji sacrificed his sons in war and said ... jeevat kei hazaar. A normal person cannot reach to this level. When our kids are sick or get hurt we go through lots more of pain than they actually are suffering. We are still striving to reach that level of perfection. Keeping sexual relations within your marriage will help keep lust in control as being with the same partner does reduce initial excitement and curiosity to a great extent. Some people unfortunately look at this as a weakness and try to be promiscuous in order to create more excitement falling victim to lust. In marriage the relationship is more of a commitment to being sensitive to your partners needs and mutual content which is a definition and expression of love - a more exact description of how Waheguru wants us to use our bodies for sexual relations. One case in history which stands out however is of Banda Singh Bahadur who was told specifically not to get married by Gur Gobind Singh Ji. He disobeyed and the result was not good for him. He was captured and pieces of his own son placed into his mouth. This was however in the war times we may argue.

  8. There was a similar story I have heard recently. This happened in Kenya where a Sikh was shot in the arm while in traffic. This was however an armed robber who took all their belongings including mobile phones. the car was all laden with blood and broken glass. There were thousands of people on the road - no one helped or even offered to help. The police even just smiled in their faces. The British high commission told him he should have gotten travel insurance before visiting the country. Something is seriously going wrong with the world. When other people get hurt, it is usually a Sikh who steps in to help.

  10. A story I heard somewhere. Guru and chela walking to a destination. On their way, they came across a river. Just before they cross the river, they saw a young, beautiful lady waiting to cross the river. She asked for help. Though she was very sexy and dressed scantily, Guru never hesitated and carried her across the river. Chela was shocked to see the hypocrisy. Guru always told him to stay away from sex and other women, but when Guru got a chance, he readily carried her in his lap. So anyway, their walk continued. Now chela was upset. Guru noticed his upset chela for couple of days and then asked him the reason why is he upset? Chela told him the reason. Now Guru said," I carried her in my lap for few minutes because she needed help. I never cared her being young and beautiful. But listen, you have been carrying her in your mind for last two days." Its a state of mind as these lines indicate indrijeet panch dhokh te rehet Nanak kot madhe ko easa apras The person who will have conquered all his desires is going to be one in a million I guess it is all got to do with the level one is on. If someone is completely devoted to Guru Ji they will be celibate. The updesh for everyone else is to live a Gristi jeevan until you are able to get over the 5 vices by devoting yourself to prayer. Celibacy has been forced on older religions with not so good results. Guru ji has perhaps simplified our own lives for us with updesh for grisht jeevan so that we can make the most progress in the spiritual field. If however there are souls who are higher than us - in that their needs are totally different to ours, in that they are absorbed in loads of simran perhaps Guru Ji prefers such souls to do his seva. Seva done this way will also serve as a pointer of a higher avasta to others.
  11. Celibates only are allowed into the sach khand which is situated in Hazur Sahib. I think only they are allowed to go in and get the shastars of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. These are displayed in the evening. There is one particular person who is their leader and he is the one who goes in and fetches the weapons. No one else is allowed in there. So it seems like Guru Gobind Singh Ji has laid out some rules for only celibates to serve him at a closer level.
  12. At least if you can't understand a point - it will not hurt you to politely point out to the person to re-explain it to you. It does help when you write something which would be a valid point in itself but you drag the other person down as well. It spoils the message which others will be getting from the original post. The points which you have stated in your post are not 100% accurate either. It is obvious from your post that you do not understand the meaning of manmukh either. it means a person who follows their own mind. A person who follows their own mind would ask for a million dollars as Guru Ji never gave the mat of asking for a million dollars. A Gurmukh on the other hand would consult the Guru and know how and what to ask for. If you read the Guru Granth Sahib, you will find numerous places where we have been taught about what to ask for. What you are preaching is what can lead people astray very badly. So next time, please ask the poster to re-explain a point which you do not understand. Stop making assumptions and read more to make yourself wiser. You need to firmly grasp the message of Sikhism and not assume you are wise in most affairs. I think you owe an apology - and you need to correct your mistake too. We are all here to help each other. No one is perfect. What one person understands better, the other person has not even heard of. That is the purpose of this site - to learn from others and to share what you understand. Discrediting other posters is not going to help anyone least of all yourself.
  13. In the UK, I have heard of 4 different cases. In one the offenders were 2 Sikh guys. This Gujrati guy went to their house to get his belongings as he wanted to move out. They had some disagreement and the sikh guys beat his head up with hockeys such that he was totally disfigured. (They were the drinking type so they were under the influence of alcohol). This guy was the nephew of my boss. They got arrested and dealt with. A sikh guy who attended college was walking home when suddenly a gang of 4 boys descended upon him beating him and he attained injuries one of which threathened his eye sight. They were shouting Osama at him while they beat him.He came to our and was in tears - the same boss whose nephew had been killed by Sikhs just shrugged his shoulders and refused him the £10.00 discount he was begging for. The other 2 are same race attacks. A girl walks into a restaurant and sits waiting for her friend. Her friend comes and she greets her and the gang next table get offended and think she is laughing at them. She gets hit so hard her ear starts bleeding and she needs to be taken to the hospital immediately. My friends son in walking home at around midnight. He was only 16 and plays ice hockey. He walks past 2 men drunk walking home, one of them just flings his hand jokingly hurting him on the chin and laughing and joking at the same time. The injury is life changing. His chin gets dislocated and he needs an operation to fix it and a metal plate. He will never be able to play ice hockey the same way again. One incident is all that is needed to get the ball rolling. That is why it is best to just not make a big noise about racist attacks especially publicly. The offenders who are mostly gangs roaming around at night will take advantage of it and attack anyone. Same race attacks cannot be termed racist. However if in the last two cases a Sikh was involved we may doubt the motive for the attack and classify it as racist. Only attackers with some underlying confidence and hate issues are the ones capable of making these attacks. The best way is to keep yourself safe and avoid staying out late night. This is the time when people are drunk and idle. The darkness gives them a false sense of security to carry out the attack.
  14. so how are you hoping to cope with it when it happens. Just keep quiet and walk away or give them back a taste of their own medicine?
  15. If they started the service at 2.00 a.m. then I suppose they may want to retire for some rest. So after their nitnem they do sukhasan. I am also assuming that in the days of war, that is probably what they did. As they may not want to leave Sri Guru Granth Sahib unattended when they are out at war. It does leave he Guradwara visitors in a bit of a predicament to know that you are going to be visiting the guradwara and performing a mata tek when Sri Guru Granth Sahib is at sukhasan. When we had to go out anywhere we used to perform sukhasan earlier than normal. Keeping in mind that they also do not cook at the premises, maybe that is why they perform sukhasan, however that cannot be a valid reason as sangat is always ready to do seva. Perhaps they dont want parkash when there is no ceremony going on. The best person who can explain the deeper reason maybe themselves. if we look deeper into things then Guru has given each person a different hukam to follow. Baba Bhandha singh bahadur was given a different set of rules and Pande khan was given something else to follow. It may be that (Nanaksar) priests are simply at a different spiritual level than the rest of us. I was reading about the Buddist explanation on the stages of enlightenment. Even after initial enlightenment - the soul takes birth 7 times in order to purify itself more. These people have a reduced level of lust, moh, anger etc. They are able to remain celibate. Therefore Nanaksar maryada maybe more appropriate for their needs in order to attain full enlightenment. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_stages_of_enlightenment
  16. I should say though ... when some elderly woman who came into this country complained to me she got called paki in the 70s by younsters on the street. At least no one has called me that since I set foot in the UK.
  17. Actually thugger you seem quite knowledgeable but that pic which you place all the time is a bit irritating. Why cant you save it for another site which you visit. People come to this site to get some religious inspiration. (not that I have something bad against that your flashing pic which you have placed there. I always have to scroll up or down the screen to put it out of my view.) I have been hoping that you may be changing it soon - and place something more sikh like - which will both portray a more favourable image of yourself and also inspire peoples thoughts. It would also avoid people telling you the below save me the scrolling trouble please. You need to look into this.
  18. As long as the meaning is not twisted up some people do sing dharnas from gurbani to get the message across to people while not sounding too religious. Nanaksar however I would say offer the greatest inspiration to people who want to work and progress seriously in the religious/spiritual part of their lives. They simply want you to get down to reality and do maximum naam jap for yourself which is the only thing which is important. That is the whole purpose of us having been given this human body and sent down on this earth. asa mehla 5 Bhei parapat Manukh dheriya in Rehras - the whole pauri which we are supposed to read everyday explains this clearly. Anything else we do is going to be of no use to us. So which nanksar dharnaas exactly can you say are wrong?
  19. There was always racism and possibly will be all over the world. Talking about Kenya which was a British colony, the black people there discriminate against the Asian community. However there are some who dont share that attitude and look at people based on their merits and demerits. Every Sikh I know who has to work with the wider English or British population will have some complain. My brother himself admitted that people who are very friendly on the phone all over sudden turn defensive when faced with a turbaned sikh. People with degrees have given up looking for jobs after numerous failures. However it all amounts to one thing - that you need to go look in the right place (possibly where there are some apne) and also work extra hard at applications. It may mean that interview techniques need to be handled carefully. Places with lots of apne as customers will mean employers will readily employ turbaned Sikhs and ladies. Being confused with the muslims as well has largely contributed to this. Racism is hard to define as it can be disguised under one blanket or another with the true reason never emerging. Therefore I think everyone is sort of learning to deal with it in their own particular manner and keep on with peaceful living. (As long as you dont get killed for being who you are) Many people have dealt with it by trying to mask their true identity or just not knowing enough of who they are and why we are here. So we have those who think they are a part of whites, cut their hair and have adopted another culture. As the world mixes more and more, we may safely say it is not racism but has extended to be a culture clash to some degree. I am most comfortable among people similar to me, so will the natives be and view us as a threat ( or they just dont understand us) If we dont work at understanding ourselves and explaining to them who we are, then we are indeed lost. Legs in two boats, like changing chameleons - it depends who are going to confront - you change your colours and show them what they want to see.
  20. http://www.philtar.ac.uk/encyclopedia/sikhism/nanak.html It sort of seems to stem from Guru Nank Dev jis son ... Sri Chand who was also an udasi. Udasi's cannot marry because they live in forests. However they seem to have found their way as Bhai Nand Singh their founders was guided by the Guru's. They do not light a fire in their Guradwara and their langar is prepared by people from home who bring it to serve in the Guradwara. They also have a very big lion face or skinned lion placed in the front of the Guru Granth Sahib in their Guradwaras. The one we visited in India had an exhibition which was opened to the public only if they promise to jap a certain number of sukhmani or japji sahib dhe path. However on pooranmashi everyone could go in and have a look at what was in the hall.
  21. 40 path of sukhmani is actually a way to descipline the wild mind and train it to actually sit and do path. Because we are so much engrossed in our present lives ... our worldly gifts start to matter to us a great deal. I was once stuck in this state too. We want to pass our exams, we want to get married, we want children, we want our mum in laws to be kind to us. We want peace, we want everyone to love us, we want a job, we want a house, we want big money and we want to win the lottery because our money does not seem enough. So back to the start ... why are we having to do 40 sukhmani sahib dhe path? Would we have to do them in the first place if we had been doing sukhmani sahib dha path everyday? Sukhmani sahib dha path is so important to us ... for everyday. When you start 40 sukhmani path.... start with ardaas everyday... and end with ardaas. In the ardaas only tell God you have done sukhmani sahib dha path and ask forgiveness for any mistakes and ask for strength and inspiration to continue it the next day too. It is important to realise a truth which is our main aim is to perform sukhmani sahib dha path everyday. Try your best to do it and sacrifice your sleep as well if need be. It is your devotion to God which is more important than the number of paths you do. When you think 40 sukhmani path it gives the brain a target. Apart from that it has no meaning. People do one path and get what they want. They never do it again. That is not very right. Some people may do 40 and not get what they pray for. They stop doing it and that is not right either. People finish the 40 and then wonder if they should continue doing it or not!!! That is not right either. It is not written anywhere that you need to do 40 path. It is only just a guide ideally for starters or for those who want to make some Amrit. Placing water in a jug and reciting 40 path will give you a guide as to when to change the water. The water thus produced is Amrit and is infused with naam. Drinking it will fill you with naam and whoever you give it to will also recite sukhmani. I am saying this from personal experience because my mum after a miscarriage went to the Guradwara and a woman who she had never met... told her to always do 40 sukhmani sahib path and make amrit after every 40 days. She started doing it and never left sukhmani for all her life. She always does it even when there are interruptions. She marks where she stopped and continues when she rememebers. she never sleeps without finishing it. Sukhmani sukh amrit prabh naam. Sukhmani sahib is the biggest and the most important bani given to us. I was reading somewhere where kalyug (the devil) came to the Guru Granth sahib ji and threw about the flowers and the rumale. Sant ji then asked who done it and he confessed that he did it and that he does not come where sukhmani is recited. Sukhmani is the devils greatest enemy. Therefore sukhmani sahib path is done continuously in the Nanaksar deras. Let us all pray and be grateful to Arjun Dev Ji who sat on the tati tavi for 5 days and who gave us this great bani. Let us do our part and at least recite it everyday and encourage others to do so. For how else can we ever repay Guru Arjun Dev Ji for this amolak heera which he has given to the world. Read and understand the meanings of sukhmani too because it explains to you everything about your life.
  22. We have been taught how and what to ask in this shabad God will never deny anything to anyone. We are what we are because of what we have asked from the Lord. A worldly father will however deny his son something. In this case Harsharan bhaji is referring to a worldly father and not God. I remember this sakhi where a certain sant questioned about the truth behind God giving everyone what they need without looking and judging their devotion to him. Akirtgana nu paldha.... He even gives sinners what they ask for without thinking about their many sins. (For that is what we all are... we are so deeply steeped in maya. the only person who is free from maya is the one who has swaas swaas simran like all the guruji's. What else would give Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji the strength to sit for 5 days on the tati tavi and recite tera kiya meeta laage) Back to the sakhi... God decided to let this particular Sant Ji give to everyone the next day. Sant Ji gave to everyone and left out one person. God asked him why he left out that one person. He gave a reason of like that person had not said his prayers or something. God rebuked him. This shows that we all cannot reach the level of equality with which God our true father sees the whole world. He will give to everyone. He does not forget anyone because he is pura. Satgur mera pura. Any other type of father will fall short of matching up to the fatherly love which only God can give. Even the Christians believe in this concept. If you become the son of the father, then what the father has will become yours. You need to serve the father with unconditional love. Serve the father for what he is ..... YOUR TRUE FATHER,
  23. So what event in history does this beautiful painting represent bhaji?
  24. You have been on your own from day1. You decided to quit. No one told you to do that. Every decision you have made - you have done it on your own. We may just stepped in for the excitement. You decided to take up exercising - you did it on your own with someone from work. You decided to give in to your friend - and take that drink........ you did it on your own. He said no one will know and now we all know - you told us. Five me one good example of where you followed what someone on here told you ............ ( I stress naam simran) you never say yes I will. You decided to do rehras .... you did it on your own. no one advised you to do it. You decided to quit it your blog.... you do it on your own. You decide to start your blog.... YOU will do it on your own. You are doing it all on your own!!!! We are only just reading your blog............. nothing else. God helps those who help themselves.
  25. Until you seriously start naam simran....you will keep slipping. Your blog should now focus on what steps you are deciding to take into sikhi. No one directly told you to stop blogging. Its time to put into action all the advise people have given you. Everyone on here is all for your support. The source of all your failures is your amazing ability to place a stumbling block before you yourself fall over it and then blame the block. That is called mun mat... not gur mat. Get rid of that and you have amazing potential. If you put all that effort into naam simran you may be the person advising us lost souls and not vice versa.
