  1. We can all agree on basic principles of Sikhi..can't we? And various Sikhi groups competing each other in parchaar is not a bad thing. In the end of the day, Sikhi is being spread. More important than parchar is retention. We should have people who were born in Sikh households to keep Sikhi in their hearts and actions. This is something where Muslims extremely excel at and dwarf all other cultures/religions/movements. Islam produces most loyal followers globally (in comparison to others). We can learn a thing or two, especially when it comes to Sikhi in West. On a general level, Muslim girls (Punjabi Muslim girls included) are always more practicing of their faith, and are way more cultured than our kuriyans. Lets just compare girls of same genes, skin, color, and culture. Lets compare Muslim Punjabi girls vs Sikh Punjabi girls.. Muslim Punjabi girls would generally stay away from drinking, love-affairs, and other vices. Compared with Punjabi Sikh girls, Muslim girls will proudly live by their culture and be confident. Muslim Punjabi girls vigorously protect their sexual engagement and virginity. While Punjabi Sikh girls...well, we all know the situation isn't very good. Muslim Punjabi girls also very, very rarely marry outside their faith. Its almost unheard of. Even when they marry, the guy has to 'convert' to Islam (even if by name only). Muslim punjabi girls go on to produce offsprings generally from Muslim Punjabi males. And they transfer their Punjabi, Islamic values to their next generation very effectively..and cycle goes on. Its this sort of cultural/religious discipline that is something we can learn. Note: The key word here is "generally"...Please people, don't come to me and say "Oh I knew this Muslim chick. She used to pretend religiosity but wasn't that religious blah blah)..I am talking here in a 'general' sense..on mass level..as a constant trend. We all know that not every Muslim girl is Saint and not every Punjabi girl is out-of-line of Sikhi.
  2. The Future of World Religions: Population Growth Projections, 2010-2050 Why Muslims Are Rising Fastest and the Unaffiliated Are Shrinking as a Share of the World’s Population The religious profile of the world is rapidly changing, driven primarily by differences in fertility rates and the size of youth populations among the world’s major religions, as well as by people switching faiths. Over the next four decades, Christians will remain the largest religious group, but Islam will grow faster than any other major religion. If current trends continue, by 2050 … The number of Muslims will nearly equal the number of Christians around the world. Atheists, agnostics and other people who do not affiliate with any religion – though increasing in countries such as the United States and France – will make up a declining share of the world’s total population. The global Buddhist population will be about the same size it was in 2010, while the Hindu and Jewish populations will be larger than they are today. In Europe, Muslims will make up 10% of the overall population. India will retain a Hindu majority but also will have the largest Muslim population of any country in the world, surpassing Indonesia. In the United States, Christians will decline from more than three-quarters of the population in 2010 to two-thirds in 2050, and Judaism will no longer be the largest non-Christian religion. Muslims will be more numerous in the U.S. than people who identify as Jewish on the basis of religion. Four out of every 10 Christians in the world will live in sub-Saharan Africa. These are among the global religious trends highlighted in new demographic projections by the Pew Research Center. The projections take into account the current size and geographic distribution of the world’s major religions, age differences, fertility and mortality rates, international migration and patterns in conversion. Globally, Islam is the fastest growing religion in terms population growth, including net gains from conversions. Out of all the major religions studied in the research, Islam is projected to gain the most "net" conversions. And all other religions combined – an umbrella category that includes Baha’is, Jains, Sikhs, Taoists and many smaller faiths – are projected to increase 6%, from a total of approximately 58 million to more than 61 million over the same period. Complete Report: http://www.pewforum.org/2015/04/02/religious-projections-2010-2050/ =================== From the report, the entire "Other religions" block will increase by only 3 million, which means that for next 35 years, Sikhs will increase by--at best--1 million or so. This is very disheartening. There are lots of stupid, irrelevant threads on Muslims on this forum. But if there's one thing we should talk about when it comes to Muslims--it is this: Islamic discipline. Muslims are a global people and a global civilization (only one of the two global civilizations to have ever established by human race). They have huge resources, massive power, tens of nation-states, their own militaries, nuclear forces, global corporations, and large diasporas etc, with history of staying global superpowers of centuries and centuries. But they act and preserve themselves as if they are a "nascent religion" that can become extinct or something. They always spread their religion, culture, and civilization globally (even in West now!). Muslims, out of all the people existing on planet Earth, preserve and practice their culture/religion with most sincerity, discipline, and pride. Their girls are extremely loyal to their faith. International scientific studies have shown, consistently, that Muslims are least likely to engage in pre-marial sex, reject things like gay marriage most ferociously amongst all peoples, are least consumers of Alcohol, drugs are punishable by death!, and Muslims as a whole stick to their culture and civilization most ardently--and expand it globally when they move/migrate to far corners of Earth! Pew's survey (Portrait of American Muslims) in 2009 showed the 59% of Muslim girls in the United States observe Hijab "Often or all the times." Quite inspiring! And that's in the United States out of all places! Imagine the sincerity and dedicate Muslims (especially Muslim girls) have globally within their Islamic nations! While we Sikhs are a people with no state, no military, extremely small size, very few in numbers and so on--and yet we act as if we are big guns in world and make no effort to preserve (let alone spread) our religion/culture/way of life. Our apnay log are doing intermixing, inter-faith marriages, drugs, alcohol in punjab, just hedonism and fun...and lack of traditional moral code where getting married and having a family is considered a great thing. Lack of discipline has causing our already small community to shrink even further. Its mind boggling. Muslims should be "relaxed" and should enjoy their lives..while Sikhs should be disciplined and work to spread their culture. But its opposite! Our Sangat can learn a thing or two---even from those who aren't a "model" to follow in many other aspects.
  3. That's sad. Hopefully Pakistan comes out of her extremism problems. He is Sikh MP of KPK assembly, he should look into this issue.
  4. May be, may be not. But I am happy that Sikhs are treated fairly in Pakistan and are given more respect by the government as compared to india where Sikhi isn't even recognized as a separate religion and Sikhs marry under "Hindu Marriage Registration Act". In Pakistan, the Sikhi is recognized as a separate religion and Sikhs have their own marriage act under law.
  5. I am only telling you what I learned from few Sikhs I met from Pak. Offcourse there are problems, but what I got from them was that Sikhs are treated the best out of all minorities. One Pakistani (Muslim) told me that Sikhs still have it better in Pak than many Muslim groups themselves (Like Ahmadis, Shias etc).
  6. Muslims made the right decision by wanting to have their own country. Nehru's betrayal and Indian leadership's absolute refusal to do something about legitimate Muslim concerns empowered the factions within Indian Muslims who wanted to get a separate land. Pakistan treats Sikhs very well. Met a couple of apnay sardars from Pak in Dubai--they were really happy and told me great stories of love they get from Muslims. However, they have concerns about Sikh heritage and especially about Islamic extremism/sectarianism rising in Pak. Sikhs in Pakistan have their own marriage act recognized in Law, and Sikhism is regarded as a separate, independent, and unique religion of its own. Both of these things aren't present in India.
  7. oh wow! This is like one trillionth times I have seen the SAME topic being posted here. Why are we soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo obsessed with Muslims? I have started to believe that many of us are really inspired, impressed, and/or jealous by Muslims. There is no other way to explain the regularity by which threads about Muslims get posted here. Its an obsession. I've been watching this forum for over a year now
  8. I agree. But fertility decrease due to hedonism is an influence of Western influence. Also, I do not believe that 75% of entire population in punjab is addicated to drugs. In some areas, may be. But over-all, I have seen no credible statistics on drug use in Punjab. Can you share some credible statistics from well-established sources on drugs?
  9. Sat Sri Akal sab nu The situation is not good for Sikhs. We are already such a small portion of population, and now our population is going even further down. I blame drugs, hedonism, influence of Western culture, and newly found wealth in Punjab. While our youth in Punjab is doing drugs, having fun, and becoming part of wider indian state---Muslims have yet again showed their discipline, lack of regard of "wider" culture, and strict loyalty to their own culture. They have grown from 13.4% to 14.2% (and if we add in figures of Pakistan and Bangladesh's Muslim growth, then the figure becomes even more impressive). I heard from one Punjabi girl of ours (who visited Punjab recently) that apna Punjab (East Punjab)---which was absolutely clear of Muslim peoples due to mass migrations of 1947---is seeing the return of Muslims in the land. She told me that her village had now built a Mosque and in various cities of Punjab, she could even hear Ajaan (Islamic Call to prayer). Muslims are a global people--with huge resources, massive power, tens of nation-states, their own militaries, and large diasporas. But they act and preserve themselves as if they are "under threat" of extinction or something and they always spread their religion, culture, and civilization globally (even in West now!).
