  1. There is a lot of misinformation being spread by the spiritually blind. Clearly this site is not free from it as well. I can name a few members who promote other teachings here because they have not understood Gurbani's root message. It doesn't help either when we have kathavachaks telling sangat how Bhagats in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji are from different religions. For the last week and longer, I have been targeting these post and all I have been getting is slandered and told to stop. If I or someone else charged someone for Gurbani teachings, then the person who is learning will cherish it more because now their is a value they paid for Gurbani. Humans rely on their mind and when they feel or hear something that sounds profound to them. It's got to be spiritual. Gurbani warns us of this behaviour, yet Sikhs still indulge into it. Take this poster for example. He started this thread to praise and promote this false teaching and on a different thread he started, he bad mouths Sikhi in various ways. I would label him as a troll, but I will reserve this title for now because it would be coming to a conclusion too quickly. I babbled enough, lets listen to the Gurus teachings: ਅਖਰ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਭੁਲੀਐ ਭੇਖੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ अखर पड़ि पड़ि भुलीऐ भेखी बहुतु अभिमानु ॥ Akẖar paṛ paṛ bẖulī▫ai bẖekẖī bahuṯ abẖimān. Reading their books over and over again, people continue making mistakes; they are so proud of themselves (their religious ways). Ŧirath nāṯā ki▫ā kare man mėh mail gumān. But what is the use of bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, when the filth of stubborn pride is within the mind? Gur bin kin samjā▫ī▫ai man rājā sulṯān. ||4|| Other than the Guru, who can explain that within the mind is the Lord, the King, the Emperor? Parem paḏārath pā▫ī▫ai gurmukẖ ṯaṯ vīcẖār. The Treasure of the Lord's Love is obtained by the Gurmukh, who contemplates the essence of reality. Sā ḏẖan āp gavā▫i▫ā gur kai sabaḏ sīgār. The bride eradicates her selfishness, and adorns herself with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. Gẖar hī so pir pā▫i▫ā gur kai heṯ apār. ||5|| Within her own home, she finds her Husband, through infinite love for the Guru. Gur kī sevā cẖākrī man nirmal sukẖ ho▫e. Applying oneself to the service of the Guru, the mind is purified, and peace is obtained. Gur kā sabaḏ man vasi▫ā ha▫umai vicẖahu kẖo▫e. The Word of the Guru's Shabad abides within the mind, and egotism is eliminated from within. Nām paḏārath pā▫i▫ā lābẖ saḏā man ho▫e. ||6|| The Treasure of the Naam is acquired, and the mind reaps the lasting profit. ||6|| Then, Satguru reinforces the teaching further, listen: ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਲਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ करमि मिलै ता पाईऐ आपि न लइआ जाइ ॥ Karam milai ṯā pā▫ī▫ai āp na la▫i▫ā jā▫e. If He grants His Grace, then we obtain it. We cannot find it by our own efforts. Gur kī cẖarṇī lag rahu vicẖahu āp gavā▫e. Remain attached to the Feet of the Guru, and eradicate selfishness from within. Sacẖe seṯī raṯi▫ā sacẖo palai pā▫e. ||7|| Attuned to Truth, you shall obtain the True One. ||7|| The people you have gone to for the 10 day retreat are trying to accomplish liberation with either a false Guru (false because hes/she is trying with own efforts) or by their own efforts. Listen to the Guru carefully here. Don't doubt Satguru for a second. This same teaching is repeated many times in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. Engrave this teaching in your mind. Lastly, the Guru is forgiving and will take any true seeker into his embrace, listen: ਭੁਲਣ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥ भुलण अंदरि सभु को अभुलु गुरू करतारु ॥ Bẖulaṇ anḏar sabẖ ko abẖul gurū karṯār. Everyone makes mistakes; only the Guru and the Creator are infallible. Gurmaṯ man samjẖā▫i▫ā lāgā ṯisai pi▫ār. One who instructs his mind with the Guru's Teachings comes to embrace love for the Lord. Nānak sācẖ na vīsrai mele sabaḏ apār. ||8||12|| O Nanak, do not forget the Truth; you shall receive the Infinite Word of the Shabad. ||8||12|| These pauris are on ang 61 and the Shabad starts on ang 60. Listen to how the Shabad starts: ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ Sirīrāg mėhlā 1. The self-willed manmukhs wander around, deluded and deceived. They find no place of rest. Without the Guru, no one is shown the Way. Like the blind, they continue coming and going. Gi▫ān paḏārath kẖo▫i▫ā ṯẖagi▫ā muṯẖā jā▫e. ||1|| Having lost the treasure of spiritual wisdom, they depart, defrauded and plundered. ||1||
  2. This needs to be investigated by Gursikhs. Slavery and child abuse cannot be tolerated in the house of Guru Nanak Dev ji.
  3. This is pathetic. The Gurus held wrestling matches and never had this behaviour. Gursikhs had Gatka matches and no one does this. This is tribalism, those who support this type of behaviour are rednecks. They have no Sikhi in them whatsoever. They only sit on Sikh forums to support their tribal nonsense. The Gurus taught marital arts to get Sikhs to defend themselves and others. Its not for the tribal rednecks entertainment. Redneck tribal using the word posh and want to call Gursikhs puppoos. keyboard warriors should be reported to Interpol for cyber bullying.
  4. The guy in the video keeps on saying....you can do this for controlling/get rid of ego. Doesn't anyone else see the critical mistake this person is making? The pandits have tried this path and so have many others. Satguru says they fail because ego still sticks to them. These preachers don't have Satguru as their Guru. They rely on other faulty methods to feel something "special". Sikhs waste so many hours on trying to learn from worldly teachers. They can't go past the three gunas, what spiritual wisdom can they teach? Today Sikhs are so confused on what is the truth. They hop around like a frog and find nothing. Satguru has everything we need. When a Sikh is able to identify the mistakes others are making, slowly introduce yourself to other religions(others faulty paths) teaching to be aware of what they teach. Build a very strong base in your heart for Sikhi and then explore.
  5. I think he refers to the meaning of chupai chup na hovei....when he talks about the quietening of the mind ... without talking. This is the second line in the first pauri, and not the first as OP has referred to. You are right... the meaning of soche soch na hovei is easily confused with the thinking part of the brain. The solution of haume is provided in the SGGS as being sadh sangat. Therefore it is important to go to Guradwara and sit in sangat for some time as much as we can. I agree the meaning is cleanse. Also we can expand on the pauri and say the "modern" Punjabi meaning of think, also flows with Gurbani. Bhagat Naam Dev ji on ang 727, says by thinking Vaheguru can't be obtained. Bhagat ji stresses on how people are blind and need Guru Sahib's support. Without Guru Sahib's support the Naam can't be obtained. Which brings us to the initial point I was making; without the Guru, there is only ego. If the secondary meaning was against Gurmat, then it would be rejected. But thank you for pointing out the primary meaning.
  6. Expanding on this topic. In Japji Sahib the first pauri starts with, rephrasing here, by thinking a person cannot discover Vaheguru or by trying to silent the mind. Many preachers, teachers, swami, Baba, and priest talk a big talk. But they fail to recognize the root problem of the ego. It's unable to accept Shabad Guru as the only Guru. Once they forget this key step they give big sermons of how the mind can be controlled to get rid of thoughts that are considered bad and focus on what they believe is the key to creation. Fasting, going to pilgrimage, puja of the dead, stones, etc, yoga for mind and body control, meditation, intellectual debates, etc the list is very long. And most of the time they refer to God as this key they are trying to reach. They call him by different names and different attributes. Gurbani tells us over and over to go to the Guru, the Guru is your only support, don't look at other teachings as valid for finding the ultimate truth/key to creation, cling on to the Gurus feet, give your head and don't look else where. All these signs are staring the reader straight in the face, like a deer in a set of head lights. Yet people run elsewhere in a heart beat. Some only see greed, anger, sexual desires, attachments to creation as the things they need to help with from the Guru. Mind you, some still run to yoga classes for mind, breath control to keep these things neutralized. Guru Sahib says it loud and clear, many are meditating at Vaheguru's door, but only those who follow the instructions of the Guru are going to be liberated and join Vaheguru. The path to religion, getting rid of ego, starts by accepting Shabad Guru/ Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji as Guru and then following this only true Guru's instructions. This does not mean you hope around dipping into other schools to see if they can help with bringing peace of mind. Because in this instance you have doubted Guru Sahib and are playing, the what if game.... Think about it this way. You are in the middle of the ocean, the Guru is steering the boat and tells you, as Gurbani says, the Guru is your only support. All of a sudden you see another boat that seems better and you jump on to the other boat hoping it will steer you to success. You have abandoned the Guru. Also all these other boats in the ocean are making things up as they go along or following directions of others, who have passed away and left directions of how they got to a certain point, but were unable to steer themselves to success because they started off with ego by not accepting Shabad Guru as Guru. They put on a big magical show, using terms you haven't heard before, techniques that help only for an instant to relax the mind, hold intellectual talks that you have never discovered before. Also remember these only look successful because they are being offered to individuals who have no clue or know very little about what true spiritual wisdom is. In real estate if you want to get rich it's about location location, and location. If a person wants to get rich (find Vaheguru) then it's all about Guru Guru, and Guru.
  7. You can call the swami by whatever name you choose. This does not change the fact of Swami Vivekananda not accepting Shabad Guru/Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji as Guru. Therefore he did not have the knowledge or kirpa to be a Mahapurkh.
  8. The Gurus didn't come to reinforce the caste system which you refer to as "jobs". Dharma according to Sikhi is to follow the Gurus teachings and not to create a stronger caste system.
  9. Ignorance is bliss. This is the direct result from injecting steroids; loss of brain cells. Coming on a Sikh forum to call the new young Sikhs weak because they don't beat an attacker with an axe is being a bon head. Reality in the US is gun violence. People are victims of gun violence. UK don't have guns. Canadian Sikhs lost a lot of youth to also gun violence. The nature of bullying has also changed. More people including the youth are to be cyber bullied than face a bully in the middle of the soccer field. Currently the bully in this topic is calling people fat retards and now pu55ies. More people today are online than sitting on park benches having a conversation. So the bully comes in the form of a keyboard warrior like this poster I am addressing now. Our Gurus have taught us to learn marital arts and never forget the true teaches of Gurbani, which are the foundation of being grounded. This poster has been on Sikh forum for over a decade. I wouldn't be surprised if it was two decades. In that decade he has not improved as a Sikh. He still thinks like a knuckle head, disagrees with how the Gurus were and argues against Gurmat. On this forum he doesn't swear so much because the mods would kick him out but just go take a look at the filth he says on Sikhawareness.com. there he goes by the poster name dalsingh101. He's an uncle who's got nothing better to do than bully young kids on Sikh forums. Brave uncle's fight in closets.
  10. I have not supported trump. I have simply stated how trump was the lesser of two evils. From your original post the tone was as if you were shocked how a racist is so called being supported by Sikhs. This tone hints at your support for Hilary Clinton who is a racist herself.
  11. Are you this naive to believe Hilary Clinton and bill clinton have not said these things behind closed doors. Clinton didn't care about minorities.
  12. Listen to Trump's speeches before the election and after he won. It's a complete flip of tone. He was calm and even thanked clinton, which he should have never done.
  13. Trump is not thee man. Hes far from it and he did and said whatever it took to win the elections. Trump won because the majority were not willing to elect a women who was corrupt to the core. They would rather elect a person who is seen so far to be the lesser of two evils.
  14. Was it Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji message to elect Gurus that are not Gurus after Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji? I know the modernization you are speaking of. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji had a hawk sit on his hand and the niramkari Guru had a hawk sit on his wife's head. Your understanding of modernization amazes me, pleasetell me more.
  15. What does larivaar saroop or pad chhed saroop have to do with saying whether English translation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji are equal to Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji in Gurmukhi?
  16. The original poster was referring to English translation of Sri Guru Granth sahib ji to be handed out. Do you guys believe the English translation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is equal to Sri Guru Granth sahib ji written by the Gurus?
  17. Take out the old puppet and insert another to make it look like there will be positive change in sgpc decisions because a "new" proactive "Sikh" is incharge.
  18. Caring what others think, you are losing the battle. What you should care about is the one who watches all. You are moving in the right direction. What people think about your hair length is not important. Do you want to end up like the Singhs who only look the part and are close to empty on the inside? Well you are heading in this direction. Take care of the hair with a natural oil like coconut oil. Other posters have suggested other oils as well. Find that one helps to keep your hair healthy and learn how to tie a dastar. Focus on getting rid of insecurities like worrying what others think about your look by focusing on Gurbani. Power of Ardas is overlooked. Internally, come begging for his kirpa, internally accept Guru Sahib as the true giver and ask for his feet.
  19. In your second sentence you create a difference between Satgur Nanak Dev ji and Akal Purakh. This belief of yours is not correct. Gurbani tells us their is no difference between the Gurus (from Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji to Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji) and Vaheguru: gur paramaesar eaek hai sabh mehi rehiaa samaae || The Guru and Vaheguru are one, who permeate all. jin ko poorab likhiaa saeee naam dhhiaae || naanak gur saranaagathee marai n aavai jaae ||4||30||100|| ang 52 Vaheguru didn't act through Satgur Nanak Dev ji, but is Satgur Nanak Dev ji and Satgur Nanak Dev ji is Vaheguru: gur govi(n)dh guovi(n)dh guroo hai naanak bhaedh n bhaaee ||4||1||8|| ang 442 The Guru is Vaheguru and Vaheguru is the Guru, Nanak there is no difference between them. Your third sentence quoted above also does not flow with Gurbani. Anybody can be a guru according to the vedant school and speaking in general. In Sikhi the term Guru is used for Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji to Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. Gurbani is clear on who the true Guru is. This title of Guru is not given to Krishna or any other devi and devta. Your attempt to mish mash everything and make it ambiguous is a failed attempt on those who take the true Guru seriously. We can discover Gurbani saying, Satgur Nanak Dev ji is the biggest (greatest): giaan dhhiaan kishh karam n jaanaa saar n jaanaa thaeree || sabh thae vaddaa sathigur naanak jin kal raakhee maeree ||4||10||57|| ang 750 Satgur Nanak is the greatest, who has kept me protected from death. With confidence and commitment a Sikh of the Guru sings the above from ang 750. Chandi di Vaar, Sikh ardas would have started with Krishna if Krishna was the Guru; as Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji tells us who are the gurus. Gurbani tells us to understand who is Satguru and who is not. From Satguru we are given the true teachings and with his grace we can progress as Sikhs. From Gurbani with his grace we are able to see Naam everywhere. If you take the above Gurbani as boasting and mentioning how Krishna has been criticized for his actions by Satgur Nanak Dev ji as boasting as well. Then it is on you to drop your duality and follow the teachings of Gurbani. From the start I have directed poster @Preeet to look at Gurbani and not to internal beliefs and biases.
  20. Do you have any remorse or apology for saying Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji is in duality for criticizing Krishna in Gurbani and Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji did not realize that all actions are in hukam of Vaheguru?
  21. I didn't criticize Krishna in Gurbani. Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji criticized Krishna for saying he's powerful by putting a ring in a king cobra. By your above post you are saying Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was in duality. You are the most deluded poster I have yet to witness here. Even the missionaries are better than you. You insult Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji to protect your fault filled Krishna. You are a Hindu becUse only a thief would insult Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.
  22. Krishna in Gurbani, by Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji has been criticized for calling himself great because he, Krishna is great because he put a nose ring in a king cobra. Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji mocks Krushna and says vaheguru can do many great things; your 'achievement' is nothing. So we can interpret Gurbani as we like???? What is this Lord of the rings and the Gods are battling each other. Will one satguru critically insult another Satguru actions. Maybe in your folklore beliefs but never in Sikhi because Satguru is NEVER wrong. But Krishna has been shown to be wrong by Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.
  23. Every kid learns differently. There is not one rule for all. Some need a bigger nudge than others and require immediate results for their work. As they get older the Gurdwara and parents should be teaching the children about the deeper message of Gurbani and majority of them will attach the reward to the message. Some kids from a young age understand the deeper message and don't need the material push. Sangat makes a huge change in a kids life. If the kid is around a parent who shows signs of being upset, mad, or frustrated when losing or not receiving something material after working for it. The child will learn this behaviour and apply it to his problems. Some kids are born in a nastik household, but their grandparents take them to the Gurdwara whenever they can and these kids want to do seva and simran without receiving a material reward for it. They enjoy the act of simran and seva and receive a direct reward from it. For those kids that need a material reward. It would be beneficial, if the reward was to better their health or some challenging game to helps develop them mentally.
