  1. True. But using the akaal takahats definition in SRM we can include most ppl. As BoS jagraj singh was trying to do. And i think we have no choice. As more and more sikhs become secular. We would be wise to do that. It is kind of sad, but better than total abandonment.

    sikh women

Decide for yourself. Sikhs are supposed to be vegetarian. So most makeup.is made from animal products. Tho there are mineral and vegan makeups now. Sikhs are supposed to keep their hair long and uncut. Because we keep our body as was given to us by God. To follow hukam. Does make up allow one to be natural? Alot of ppl say sikhs are supposed to be saint-soldiers or activist-devotees. But i think we forget sikhs are supposed to be like monk-householders. Thats another reason we keep our hair. As all spiritual seekers, rishi, munis, sants did. Our biggest goal should be to meditate and meet waheguruji. The household part should come as 2nd. Only to support ourselves. But we have made it our primary concern. You can go to sikhitothemax and search beauty or jewelry or shingaar or adornments to see what gurbani says about this. You can also take a hukamnama. In order to come up with ur own understanding. Tho most sikhs and rehit do say, no jewelry or makeup
  3. For interfaith ppl, they can get a registry marriage. Then come do an ardaas and hukamnama at gurudwara to ask gurujis blessings. Instead of making vows to follow guruji as in anand karaj. But sikhs should do anand karaj. Cuz its like not inviting the most important person in ur life to ur wedding. Before doing anything major, puratan rehitname say to do ardaas and ask for gurujis blessings. Its wat makes us sikh. There r 4 cermonies each sikh person should do according to rehit and they correspond to 4 stages of life. NaamKaran- doing ardaas after a baby is born and asking guruji to bless that child. Then taking a hukamnama. Usually ppl name the child according to the 1st letter of that hukamnama. But its up to the parents. Vidhya sanskaar- before a child starts school. Also.do ardaas. Or before a child starts learning gurmukhi which can be before english school starts at age 3 or 4. Anand Karaj- wedding according to sikh ceremonies and sikh rituals. In hajoori of gurusahib. Antam sanskaar- funeral in the sikh manner. Which is bathing the body. Dressing in good clothes and panj kakaar if amritdhari. Then cremation.
  4. Its from sooraj parkash probably If u watch the 3d movie sahibzaade. Theres the chhori saakhi that goes with it
  5. I cant fathom how u can ask such a question.were our gurus not the biggest supporters of religious freedom? Does not religious freedom mean that ppl have the right to believe in anything even if its wrong? Should Guruji have asked them to swear on gurbani pothis? Thats so ridiculous. Isnt that wat the interfaith marriage debate is abt. Making promises on false premises and false belief. Also think of bhagat dhanas story. If faith is true. Then even faith in false things is awarded sometimes. As god says i will always award faith in.me. in sukhmani sahib. Also if khalistan happens. In court will u not let muslims swear to tell the truth on the quran? A better question would be. If the guru is antarjami. He mustve known the oaths were false. Yet why did he accept? But the posters above have answered that.
  6. This negative thinking is astonishing. But i feel it is due to 1984. The spiritual aspect of sikhi was lost and panjabism helped us survive after 84. All.the idealist, were killed fighting for khalistan. We r the children of those that lay low in 84, discouraged us from being too religious and told to be more practical. And then when sikh betrayals,.intersikh fighting, scandals happened, it only affirmed the view that the religious were fake and weak But u guys r thinking too negatively. Look at the jewish ppl. Has anyone suffered as them? Yet they take pride in the suffering. They say as Gods chosen ppl, we will continue to suffer. Christianity is 2000 years old. So how old is judiasm? And when were they exiled? And finally in 1940s,.they got their land..and now.they r the most influential in terms of science and media and politics worldwide. But look how long it took. And look at sikhs. From being simple farmers in panjab. To politics in canada, university positions, lawyers in DC. Within 2 generations. 1984 did us a bit of a favor. It created a diaspora. And that diaspora is not at refugee level at all. But successful. Sikhs are on all continemts except 1. The jewish ppl faced discrimination and pograms in russia and other european countries for centuries. They moved from one country to another like gypsies. Because soon each country would become antisemitic. And jewish ppl were a urban ppl with literacy and skills and had a monopoly on usury/loans.What skills did our forefathers have? Besides farming and soldering? We have achieved greater success, faster. Ofc it will.take time to become as great as the jewish. Esp in nobel prize. But i feel, w got too.used to comfort and are already moving back into laziness, drugs,.complaining,.veing discouraged. Also how is it fair, that God gives us comforts and a kingdom based on our ancestors sufferings? Dont we believe in individual karma? But a taksali kathavachik did say. That sikhs in the west are those sikhs reincarnated. Those that starved in jungles.and were hounded. Those that did not have the avastha to see it as hukam and bhana. Because he said, not all sikhs of the time were like baba deep singh. Like in 84, not all were like sant jarnail singh. Some were just innocents murdered. So they got to be reborn in comfort... Also, do u want sikh ppl to be just another community? Living and reproducing? Or upholders of morality, fighting against tyranny? If so, shouldnt it take a toll? I mean if it was easy,.wouldnt all do it? Also if they could have chardi kala in those times. Why cant we? Having a growth mindset with optimism,.helps ppl succeed.
  7. Was Azam the son, bahadur shah or wait it was tara azam wasnt it? Interesting that guruji supported the son that aurangzeb did not. #10 is hilarious. Its wat most of sikh history is.the misdeeds of auranga.
  8. Stereotypes and prejudice. The really low.castes had no.rights. so were.made.to.do unclean.things. like cleaning gutters, cleaning dead animals.to make shoes etc. So.that feeling of disgust is still prevalent. Also really low caste, ppl have colored eyes and reddish/blond hair. Which means they have 'invader' blood and arent pure. And my parents are always trying to judge ppls caste bassed on their looks. They usually fail. And have now started to say, its no logner possible to tell who is who. Oh the horror! Lol Ofc.theres not much difference between the other job based castes like tarkhaan or jat or khatris. But there are cultural differences. Not saying. I agree with these thoughts. But my parents are always trying to proove to us why we should be castists even tho Guruji told us not to be. These r some.of the reasons they use. Not to.mention. they say that none of the gurus married outside of caste. Most panjabis marry inside caste as to not disappoint parents. But it will.change soon. As to.the having ur surname in 2 caste. Its because,.to avoid discrimination, the people perceived as lower castes are using high caste names.
  9. Work on removing the doubt. By making yourself worthy and believing in yourself. You can conquer your base desires. In the meantime, keep reading and learning about sikhi and do ardaas (prayer done from the heart with eyes closed and standing up and using ur own words. So its like talking to God or asking him.to help you. You can also do ardaas to Guru ji when u visit the gurudwara and matha tek/bow down) You have created a cycle.of bad habits. You have a cue and then the automatic habit. Here read this about habits: https://lifeforbusypeople.com/2016/12/13/why-habits-form-how-to-build-them-transcript/ So whenever u get the thought, of attraction,.try not to.act.on.it. just accept that thought. Acknowlege it. Dont try to suppress.the thought. Or turn that thought as a cue to do build a good habit. Like everytime you feel attraction. Go.to a charity and donate 5 dollars (may i suggest khalsa aid,.basics of sikhi, nanak naam..u should really check out these charities) or when the cue happens, go on ur phone and play kirtan (may i suggest Qreetan, dharamproductions, nirmal singh naamdhari, im karamjot....all youtube channels) You are lucky you are bi. It will make marriage easier for you than if you were just gay. So then like every other person. You just have to work on controlling kaam(lust/sexual desire) until you are married. Kaam/lust is bad. No matter if its for a guy or a girl. So since you are not getting married soon. You have to not act on desire. Lots of ppl have a hard time doing that. Just check out the gupt section of this forum. NoFap on reddit. Also if u have an addiction to sex. Try to use the 12 steps of alcohol annonymous to overcome ur addiction. Google the steps. You dont have to take amrit yet. But you should work on making yourself be better, starting now. Work on discipline and stabilizing ur emotions/desires. Dont.let them control you.
  10. Lucky for u, ur in india. You can have acess to historical accounts. Like the diary of aurangzeb. All.the mughal kings kept an official 'diary' during their reign. Also you should read contemporary historical accounts of aurangzeb. Im sure the libraries of india have translated versions of historical accounts. It should be really fun to go find what history says of accounts that weve only heard of from sikh point of view. You should go on this fact finding kission and upload ur research anfd documents here. Also ppl on sikhawareness would be interested in it too. Like maybe u could even find the dr. I think he was dr cole that is supposed to have treated tenth patshah.
  11. I think u need to do some deep thinking and reflection. Yes your parents are sikhs. Yes you were raised a sikh. But do you want to be a sikh? And if so why? If ur parents werent sikh, would u still want to be a sikh? If u like sikhi,.why did u go away from it? You must know a person who does drugs and alcohol and relationship outside of marriage cant be a sikh. So why did u do this? Were u tempted? Why? Was ur love or knowledge of sikhi not enough? How will u keep urself feom being tempted again? Its good u r going away from drugs and alcohol. Its good u r not hurting ur parents. And its good u r trying to forgive urself. But first find out why u did it. Then forgive urself. In terms of being forgiven by the guru: the guru is ready to forgive all those who come to his sharan. But it depends on you. Did u used to be an amritdhari? Do u want to become one again. If so, u must go pesh and confess. If u were not an amritdhari. I would suggest, u let ur actions show that u r repenting. For a month, do no alcohol or drugs. And everyday do rehraas sahib and japji sahib and do ardaas asking for forgiveness. Say why and how u fell. And how u woukd like to come back to gurus charan. Do this for a month. Then after a month, do an ardaas at the gurudwara and take a hukamnama. Or ask the granthi singh do to an ardaas for u asking for forgiveness and to take a hukamnama for u. Do this when there is no diwaan/service going on at the gurudwara. The hukamnama will tell u if the guru has forgiven u or wat he wants u to do for forgiveness. Abt ur partner. You want to know how not to have sexual relationships. You have to be strong and commited. So find out strong enough reasons not to. Also look into meditation. And maybe into reading books like The Wait by meagan DeVon. Its by a christian talking abt how and why one ahoukd wait until after marriage for sex. And is ur partner ready to marry you. And if so, will they be willing to become a sikh for u? If not, how will you guys raise children with 2 diff religions? And why doesnt ur partner love u enough to become a sikh for u? And if they dont love u enough, then why get married? And if each of u loves ur religion more than to convert for ur partner then be strong enough to leave ur partners for ur religion. If u break up.with ur partner, then u dont have to worry abt being sexually active at least.
  12. That is a common mistake ppl make. Sikhi is not like christianity where we say believe in christ and u will be saved. In sikhi, we believe that everyone is judged according to our actions and karm, bachans/words and thoughts. We must all work towards being good people and meditating so that we can defeat the five vikaar and ego and merfe with God. Being an amritdhari is no exception. In fact it is the first step. We have just promised to ourselves and the whole world. That we will be good and follow khalsa and sikhi rules. Being amritdhari is like being a monk. We renounce the world and promise to follow the guru to salvation and liberation. But just cuz someone promised doesnt make them infallible. Ppl break promises. Especially if they are tempted badly or if they are threatened. Like in the olden days, no.matter how much the sikhs were threatened they never gave up sikhi. But u know why? They chose to be sikhs. And they were raised in sikhi. These days kids born into amritdhari families are made to take amrit. It should be the kids choice. Also some families dont even teach their kids abt sikhi,.just tell.them to blindly follow the rules. So ofc these amritdhari sikhs fail and fall into temptation. Also what u r saying is true.if a peraon japs naam then their family will be saved. But i know many amritdhari families that just follow the rehit and do paath really fast but no naam jap or any gurbani with prem. Its just rituals to.them. they do it for succesful business or cuz their parents were sikh so they are too. Be careful ppl. Just cuz someone looks amritdhari doesnt mean they are a good person. Judge ppl by their actions not their dress.
  13. By relative visas, marriage fraud, and legally coming over on student visa and visitor visas than filing for fake asylum. Not to mention illegals. Its the same in the USA. We used to have hardworking and intelligent punjabis but now things r really bad. Now we have wife beaters, druggies, lazy idiots. I know an aunty who called her good for nothing brother over. He is a drug addict. But atleast his 4 daughters will have a good life. Also another American born sikh girl was recently married off to a young, quiet boy recently from india. He turned out to be a druggie and totally ruined her life. Also before it was mostly the khalistaan supporters and hard core sikhs who had come seeking asylum or running away from india. But now so many communist type thinking uncles who are so irreligious are coming over. In fact, the black cats and other traitors and govt agents are also coming over. Either with support of indian govt or on their own. Canada is totally filled up with these new arrivals. Thats why canada has so much wanna be gangster panjabis and drug addicts and fukhre. These new arrivals are so materialistic. And they teach their kids no values much less sikhi values. I really think, if we the western born sikhs decided to go back to punjab we coukd maybe do something. At least make it liveable. So trump and them cant call it a shithole.
  14. It does seem very far fetched. And hard to believe. But i can confirm one thing. The congress parties hatred/envy of sikhs. When bhai randhir singh met with bhagat singh in jail. They asked bhagat singh why he cut his hair. And he said to be better able to fit in with the hindu revolutionaries. He said up to now there have been countless sikh freedom fighters for india including kartar singh sarabha. But none of them are reported in newspapers or mentioned by the other indian revolutinaries. So if a sikh at that time, when hindus and sikhs had a common goal and common enemy, could see this discrimination. How much worse must this discrimination be after sikhs were openly fighting for khalistaan after 1984? And in med school, we just learnt that indira gandhi was the person to do most forced sterilizations of humans in the whole world. And she did declare emergencies many times similar to a dictatorship. Although, until I see proof from non sikh sources, I will remain skeptical. Because i feel like we love conspiracy theories and being victims.
  15. You make us sikhs sound like turn the other cheek pacifists. That no matter what others do to us we will keep trying to be their friend and letting them come into our house to beat our family up and steal everything. We help the needy. When someone is vulnerable. Or we leave ppl alone to practice their faith while we practice ours. We shouldnt bend over backwards to accomodate other ppl. I dont know when we've ever been that inclusive. But I do think, ppl are making a bigger thing abt this eid thing. Its the old timers doing it. Who have the same cultural background as the ahmediyas. In terms of language and culture. And its once a year. Doesnt hurt us too much. Btw, thise muslims that wear kareh and pretend to be sikhs and come to gurudwareh and nagarkirtans. And also those pakistani muslims part of the grooming gangs, are they ahmedis?
  16. Because muslims pray to the one God that we also pray too. So basically were helping them worship God. Theres nothing wrong with that. While hindus are worshipping deve devte and dancing which is disrespectful.in mahraajs diwaan. But to be honest. We do need self respect. Only help ppl who need help. Not go around begging to be of service to anyone. If the ahmediyas need space to celebrate on eid, only then should we allow them to use gurudware. But i doubt it. They are a rich community. Im sure they can afford to rent a comminity center. Also we should charge them to use the gurudwaras space . Its not like we would be taking advantage of them. They r not starving, poor folk livin in a 3rd world country. Also they can refuse and find another place. Not like were forcing them to pay us jizya. And we charge our own sikh ppl if they need the gurudwara for any function such as wedding or akhand paath.
  17. the list varies but this is what ive heard ahankaar=nimarta krodh=beer rass moh=prem (seeing everyone the same/God) lob=tiaag (renunciation) kaam=jat(chastity)
  18. Yes theres lots. Google them. in the meantime, heres some links https://www.gurmat.com/ The premier website for Sikhs in search of marriage, Gursikh Matrimonials provides a fast, free, easy to use database of over 2500 entries from all over the world. The people who list on this site are those who do not cut their hair or take intoxicants, do not consider caste and are looking for similar persons for friendship and marriage. http://www.khalsamatrimony.com/ http://www.sikhmatrimonials.com/s/successstories http://singhsabhaslough.org/matrimonials http://www.khalsarishtai.com/about/
  19. That is a good point. Such as incels now or school shooters in the USA. They think its right to take revenge for the harm they suffered, for their sadness. Also even with a good religion, ppl can be indoctrinated into a political ideology that allows us to commit murder and robbery from nongroup ppl. Look at ISIS, And even some sikh fighters during 84 got so caught up in ideology that they forgot the religion. Like the ppl who blew up Air India (even tho some say it was an indian set up. Its responsible to accept blame) or those who threatened hindus (christiana mehmoud writes about a sikh, who set up bombs in hindu marketplaces just cuz they hindu and they hated Sikhs) or kidnapped children of high ranking officers. Ofc compared to other civil and guerilla wars, such as Balkans, isreal, etc Sikhs hardly killed any innocent civilians
  20. What kind of name is khranjit? Is it just a misspelling of Karanjit? Also whats up with all these UK girls? This is the 2nd one right? U guys need to sort this stuff out in the UK
  21. That's a good point. But the point that a sikh charity should not help non-Sikhs is not a good point. Rohingya muslims were kicked out due to their religion/ethnicity. That happened to Sikhs during partition. We should have helped them out. In terms of KA, like you I think helping Yazidhis is good. But helping Syrians who had to flee a war torn area, is also good. But just passing out food, to break their fasts isn't. Another thing, I don't like about khalsa aid is that they give out cooked food or langar. But that's a temporary solution. Lots of money goes to feeding ppl for 1 day. and then they will starve again. That's not helpful. Also, lets not try to bring him down. He is providing us good publicity even when he is not helping Sikhs out with his charity. Try not to be so small minded. His charity started to help out disaster area/war torn areas. The first it started, it was to help out Czech ppl during the Balkans war I think. So his aim was never to just help Sikhs. But to help anywhere theres a disaster/war. Theres other organizations for helping in Panjab. Like SPOW, and Ensaaf and others. Lets appreciate the differences. To be truly successful. Our kaum needs to be diverse.
  22. I think the West is waking up. There are lots of right wing parties in many countries, and even far right. Theres even a move in America to ban immigration from everywhere except Western Europe, and this has been said openly. Also Front National and other right organizations Not only policitically, but culturally conservative values are becoming more popular. Such as Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro, Rebel media etc Also, I think the anakh and niti and being strong yet wise comes from being martial. As we've lost our martial arts, we have also lost that mentality. Here's a martial artist, and what he wrote I think illustrates the sikhi thought exactly. http://thefederalist.com/2018/04/27/jordan-petersons-right-become-dangerous-heres/
  23. That's interesting that its on the paternal side. From what ive read, I thought it could be X-linked or maternally inherited... but who knows? They are also saying its due to hormones during pregnancy, and as there's increased estrogen in our waters and food due to birth control and pesticides..
  24. Downsides to apple is that u have to get a different software.and hardware for everything. Its really annoying. And it takes time to.get used to their interface. There is no simple file search or my computer or control panel. They have view finder and very weird stuff. Easy to get lost. Its like an iphone with apps and minimal choices.
