  1. I thought it is waste of time to decide on what color to wear. As I understand my religion, there are many other things to do before deciding on colors etc. Does equality apply to use of colors also? This way , we may have thousands of things to decide. Just stumbled on this thread.
  2. the religion of non-tolerance followed by you is not what I want....... you may name it anything but it will be very close to taliban, I m sure. best of luck. btw, NO OTHER religious sect needed( during all ages, history) such books to explain/ control common public from kaam kroadh, lobh.....etc. Why only we need it? Are we the only enlightened one? R we superior to all? Other books were not enough, so we used such language of kaam? All others r bad/wrong/insufficient. If yes then it negates basic theory of religion. Once again, best of luck
  3. Mann should get people's support first. He is loosing his following. he must do service to people by asking his partymen to help local village people. organise social events, Do good deeds at Gurudwaras. Get SGPC seats, gain control of Gurudwras. Help people, organise health camps, provide jobs to people and then issue statements. People will lisen only then.
  4. That is why Simran jit singh is doing harm than good. He wishes well but his action had been wrong and detrimental to the cause. We need new leadership to propagate the agenda. Economic non-coperation with central govt. can achieve whatever we want. In today's world direct confrontation is not going to take you far. Have good far-sighted leaders to achieve the target. I hope Mr. Mann reads this!

  6. On religious discrimination, India next only to Iraq: US thinktank Sachin Parashar, TNN 22 December 2009, 09:09am ISTNEW DELHI: For India, international recognition of its free and pluralistic society has always been hard to come by and while things are changing, they are clearly changing slowly. A study carried out by Washington -based Pew Research Centre, the highly respected US thinktank, said India is next only to Iraq when it comes to social hostility and religious discrimination perpetrated by individuals and groups. The study titled `Global Restrictions on Religion' took into account the situation in as many as 198 countries, North Korea being the only notable exception, to derive the conclusion. India was just below Iraq and well above countries like Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan when it came to social hostility in the country. Pakistan is at the third place right below India. The study, which claims to cover 99.5% of the world population, deals with restrictions imposed on religion not just by social groups and individuals but also by the government. Even in the case of government induced restrictions, India fares badly with its position in the top 40 countries out of the 198 mentioned. Even though the report says that "the highest overall levels of restrictions are found in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Iran, where both the government and society at large impose numerous limits on religious beliefs and practices'' India is ranked well above them in the social hostility index. While India has fared badly on both, China has done remarkably well when it comes to social hostility even though it has done badly in the government imposed restrictions section. "Vietnam and China, for instance, have high government restrictions on religion but are in the moderate or low range when it comes to social hostilities. Nigeria and Bangladesh follow the opposite pattern: high in social hostilities but moderate in terms of government actions,'' it says. The report clubs India with Sri Lanka, Ethiopia and Bangladesh as countries where large segments of the population want to protect the special place of one particular religion. This is how it explains the high social hostility index for these countries. "Many of the restrictions imposed in these countries are driven by groups pressing for the enshrinement of their interpretation of the majority faith, including through Shariah law in Muslim societies and Hindutva movement in India which seeks to define India as a Hindu nation,'' says the report. In preparing this study, states the report, the Pew Forum devised a battery of measures, phrased as questions, to gauge the levels of government and social restrictions on religion in each country. "To answer these questions, Pew Forum researchers combed through 16 widely cited, publicly available sources of information, including reports by the US State Department, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, the Council of the European Union, the United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Human Rights Watch, the International Crisis Group, the Hudson Institute and Amnesty International,'' it states. ---- We can get the international support... only need is to have a good and educated leadership without any infighting. May be even let one group take the control to ensure smooth operation to achieve international respect and support and get our rights.
  7. End of discussion if nothing is permitted by GODs. I thought of writing it in my lsast post that It will be my last post because I was expecting it to go sour....... Bye let me remain a Sikh..... My Way!
  8. Fight but not with bullets... You need heavy control and discipline for that and real big organisation. You can achieve your goals by other means. It is a developed society. If you/we are right, no one can deny you and you will get support which is essentail for success. Any one with a gun is not a freedom fighter. Change your leadership if you/we can and get results. You/we need good leaders. An army without a leader is useless and more dangerous. Can you go to UNO with guns in your hands?
  9. I do not agree...... Sorry if I offended you but please ....... remember peaceful march during 1920's for SGPC formation? take inspiration from there...... aggressiveness without control has done irreparable harm in recent past. These are similar actions taken in 1979/ 1980... nothing much was achieved except terrorism and a lost generation and bad name for sikhs. Peaceful, well organised morcha and inclusive of FULL sikh support is the way. right now we are creating sections( that is hindu agenda and we are accepting it).Support gained by creating fear is not useful at all... it is not a strong support and people start using more fear to get more support and get support from bad people to create more fear.
  10. No, he baptized khalsa. SGPC definition of 1925 somewhere states that if someone declares that he is sikh and follows sikh preachings then he is a sikh. Why are you trying to reduce sikh population? Anyway, it is a different issue. ram and shyam... why should Our guru use these names used by her mother during his childhood... this is extending the argument too far. Why should our Guruji write stories in such details( was it common those days... do not get offended) when he has a sizeable population to lead, worry about moughals, manage the army etc. Is not it more reasonable to accept that someone added some verses to malign his writings? Now we can not be sure what he wrote and what he did not. Do not extend your imagination to explain every thing written in the Granth as His writing. it is going to rduce our religion to a laughing stock. It already has... Hindus have almost succeeded. What is the problem in accepting that Guru Ji used it as a common word for Lord/ God . It must be common those days to use these names. DID guru ji said that I am starting a new religion called sikhs which have to be different than Hindus and we have nothing to do with them.. Yes we are different but others also exist and Our GuruJi always preached for love to all humanity and equality. You people are distorting details to make our religion a small one with no acceptance of other people... like muslims. Be inclusive... and I said spread your message of love not hate.
  11. Question. What is the identity of names ‘Shyam’ and ‘Ram’ that appear in some compositions of Dasam Granth? Answer. This misunderstanding about the appearance of names ‘Ram’ and ‘Shyam’ in the Dasam Bani was first created by the self-styled puritans called the bhasurias. They tried to prove that most of the Dasam Granth was written by the poets Ram and Shyam, names which occur in one or two compositions in the Dasam Granth. There is more than sufficient internal and external evidence in every composition to show that all the writings in the Dasam Granth were the works of Guru Gobind Singh. The names Ram and Shyam are used in some places as pen names. Actually speaking, they were not pen names but poetic translations of Guruji's names. Guruji's name Gobind is an attributive name of God; so also are Ram and Shyam. In Sikh theology the three words govid, ram and syam mean the same thing as the following quotations from the Guru Granth prove: siyam sundar taj nind kiun ai [Guru Arjan: Suhi] siyam sundar taj an jo cahit jio, kusti tun jok [surdas: Sarang] govid govid govid har govid guni nidhaan.... govid govid govid jap mukh ujhal pardhan [Guru Ram Das: // Kanra] ram ram kirtan gae ram ram ram sada sahae [Guru Arjan: Rag Gond] In all the above quotations from the Guru Granth the words ram, syam and govid mean the same thing; and so also they do in the Dasam Granth where they stand for Guru Gobind Singh. That is why two or sometime all three of these names occur in the same composition.* This practice of writing a synonym for the proper noun in the Dasam Granth applies not only to his own name but to many other names also. iln the Dasam Granth, Guru Gobind Singh writes Netra Trung for Naina Devi, Satdrav for Satluj, Dasampur for Anandpur, Shah Sangram for Sango Shah, and Madra-desh for the Punjab. Even in our own times Bhai Sahib Vir Singh's maternal uncle Pandit Hazara Singh wrote his name Hazoor Hari while his father Dr. Charan Singh wrote his name Charan Hari. Sardar Dharma Anant Singh, in his book Plato and the True Enlightener of Soul, writes the name of Sant Attar Singh as Mrigindus Atrus. So Ram, Shyam and Govind are synonymous names of Guru Gobind Singh. ----------------------------------------------------------------- IT LOOKS FUNNY.... Nothing more to say.. Worry about spreading message for future generation. Guru Ji was just using a common word of those days... do not try to make foolish and funny meanings and make Our Guru as GOD. he naver claimed it and leave hm a GURU. He is better served like that... He gave identity to Khalsa... that is waht he said......he gave us direction.. do not make him like a hindu diety. Guru Nanak also said that naam simran ( in your heart, not on loud speakers) is the way to attain God.
  12. Can SGPC, or they attempted to, direct their salaried granthis to venture into remote areas and spread sikhism.if we are good, as we say we are and other alo say that, then it should be easy to spread Despite the universalism of the scriptures, despite the example of the Gurus themselves, they have restricted themselves to equate Sikhism with Punjab (may be because they can not get money control , as happens with hazoor saahib and Patna Saahib and they are more or less independent). Spread the message beyond ......the language (Punjabi) with dehdhari messengers on the rolls of SGPC. this will satisfy the needs of general public and kill the dera movements. Had Christianity similarly remained tied to the linguistic forms and its origins, it would have been a small cult. Jesus had preached to a people within a small geographical area; he lived and died among them. But Christian missionaries carried the message of their messiah everywhere. The Bible was translated into every language of the world and transformed into the idiom of cultures that were completely alien to that of its origin. There is a demand, if SGPC does not fulfil it, then ashutosh sacha sauda, radha soami would fulfil it. Even pure hindu sects are taking away sikh devotees. Just look at it from demand and supply perspective.
  13. Hello, Our Guru Granth Saahib? 1. It tells you not to block free speech. 2. Prof. Darshan Singh is a very learned person. Have you ever heard his discussions? 3. He is making the point that Dasam Granth should not be equated with our Guru. 4. He has been the FOREMOST person who stood against Congress during difficult times of eighties. 5. He does not like politics and use of religious bodies for politics. 6. Now let us come to dasam granth reference he made... He did some mistake by referring the King as Guru Gobind Singh. BUT.... Just imagine that next generation ... or say.. sixth next generation from now.... reads Dasam Granth which is by then treated as topmost granth of Sikhs.... those people would think that our gurus wrote about these matters instead of leading us on path of ruth? 7. One argument given is that it is written to make the point that all this( whatever is written in those stories0 is bad for us and these thing must be shunned. Do you need to describe in details to tell your kids that you should not do this? It is like ... taking someone to brothel and then asking him /her not to come here!!! 8. By the way, why do we suddenly need dasam Granth after all these centuries... only after we started talking seriously about separate country( I am not supporting Bhidranwale here. His hijacking of the movement did more harm than good). 9. Darshan Singh is preaching about Supremacy of Guru Garnth Saahib. that message is lost in minor point of referring Guru Gobind Singh as the person in the story. His main point thta promoting and equating this granth with Guru Granth Saahib will kill your religion as your next generations will not like to associate with such a religion having such unauthenticated book as their primary source of inspiration. 10.Do not be a part of Hindu Politics. Shankaracharya killed budhism and other religions by silent startegic process. Now they are bringing in all people like Ashutosh, Sacha Sauda and others. Re read these points... and decide Balwinder
