  1. I have watched a number of Bhai Sahibs videos and his knowledge of Gurbani and Sikhi considering he was born in the UK is something else. This one I rank very highly.
  2. Guru Sahib mehar karan that we can all endeavour to reach this stage. You are spot on. There was a time when Khalsa in the past were far less materialistic and other than what they carried on their horses had no other worldly possessions. Nomadic Nihangs are still keeping up this tradition but are now less in number. Materially poor people are usually more content and happier than those with large mansions, expensive goods, cars etc.
  3. No doubt they are brilliant keertanis but I find it hard to listen to them as I'm never certain whether they are praising Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji or the dehdhari. If someone can clear this doubt, I'd be grateful. I've listened to them live as well but always had this nagging thought in my mind and was not able to fully concentrate. After Bhai Balbir Singh Namdharis are unparalleled when it comes to singing Guru Gobind Singh Jis bani.
  4. Cisco Singhi Ji,I agree with what Sant Ji writes. Unfortunately with all this gyan, Nihangs were no where to be seen during struggles over the past 40-50 years. Jagdeep mentioned to me 1984 was not their (Nihangs) battle as they were not consulted by Sant Jarnail Singh Ji. Even if the Panth are willing to forgive this oversight what of the struggles prior to the attack? Where was the valour in 1978? Where were these soormey Sant Gurbachan Ji talks of in recent clashes with Ram Rahim and bandar sena when Jaspal Singh was killed? Did Guru Sahib turn ordinary folk into warriors so they could rest on their laurels or fight oppression? Now we have Singhs who are not trained warriors having to fight these battles and obviously this is not great but at least they are brave enough to take a stand. Nidar S always refers to the greatness of Shashtar Vidya and has numerous examples from history where it was used effectively. What use is that to us now? I'm not completely against Nidar S as he does does talk some sense as does Parmjit S etal. However Jagdeep on his site crossed the line when criticising the real soormey of the Panth. If Nidar was truly a fearless jodha, he should be ready to sacrifice his life for the injustices being faced by all Sikhs in Punjab (ਜਾਂ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਕਰਕੇ ਜਿੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਾਂ ਆਪ ਜੂਝ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੈ) ill be surprised if his relatives are treated any differently.
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_1SFf8t-ko&feature=youtube_gdata_player Mind numbingly ignorant. She has some common sense I suppose, as has withdrawn from the election.
  6. Question we need to ask ourselves is has Guru Nanak Dev Ji (Parmeshar) been around prior to Kaljug? The answer is obvious, therefore there is no reason why they could not have given mukti to those saints prior to taking physical form. As stated previously the followers of Krishan Ji etc were unable to achieve mukti as their Guru's had not either. I'm sure I've heard someone once mention that Guru Arjan Dev Ji called all the bhagats into a tent before they compiled Aad Granth Sahib. Is this a myth or factual?
  7. Have to admit have not followed his career and certainly am not a cricket fan. Personally I've never seen him wear a Dastar and my point is most educated people in the countries you mention know the difference between a patka and a turban. I'm baffled by the remainder of your post.
  8. Seriously? You think Gorey don't know the difference between a Dastar and a Bandana (well for us Patka)? Most have studied R.E so should know the difference. If not then maybe we need to educate them. HAHAHA
  9. This line from Sri Asa Di Vaar sums up your query I hope. Without the True Guru, no one has obtained the Lord; without the True Guru, no one will obtain the Lord. Furthermore one can only reach to the level of spirituality or Avastha 'their' Guru reaches and not surpass them. Mukti can only be achieved through Guru Nanak Sahibs House no where else. Jine marji hor dhake kha lo par mukti siraf Satguru Nanak Sahib Ji dhe ghar to milley gei.
  10. I'm so glad he does not wear a dastar and does not in public at least use and therefore tarnish the 'Singh' name. Obviously I'm not condoning his shenanigans but at least there is some damage limitation. What I found amusing was the name of the club. When my son was a little younger my wife would ask him if he wanted to go for a shooshoo... :D Wherease befkoofs like that Hardip Kohli fella who got done for acting inappropriately and sexual harassment in 2009 brings Dastar wearing Singhs a bad name. He's also the same budhoo that questioned Mota Singh QC in a Telegraph article a year later about why he spoke out for the right of a 14 year old to wear his kirpan in school.
  11. ============================== It is indirect parchar as any seva performed by Sikhs in Sikhi roop has a major effect on the minds of those being served and those watching. I do agree that education at the same time and distribution of suitable literature (Bhai Ghanaiya ji) sakhi for instance will have a profound impact on their psyche. Agree we need to work is helping ourselves more so than others as we are also in a crisis. Daswand belongs to Guru Sahib and it should be used to propagate Sikhi first and foremost and if we have more to spend on worthwhile causes then so be it. No other external organisations support Sikh causes; not the media, obviously not our leadership and we cannot rely on the majority of Guru Ghars as the pardhans are never full. Other faiths have far more organised fund raising means and don't have to go cap in hand like our charities do (the scene from Oliver Twist) springs to mind, and in the Uk the media is biased and frequently air documentaries about these faiths whereas I can count on one hand the number of Sikhi programmes aired in the last 10 years. Once we have our house in order I'll be more inclined to spend my dhaan on others. I recall once when I was in India in 2003 doing afsos at some MLAs koti and sgpc cronies were sitting in the baitak. So I struck a conversation with one about lack of parchar in Punjab, he was shocked at first and questioned what could they do ??? when I pushed him on the idea of printing literature and distributing in villages his argument was that the population would use the paper to eat chevra on so out of respect they don't bother. At this point I stayed quiet as it became a pointless discussion. Apologies veer ji, I agree with everything else you wrote.
  12. Let me start by saying his name is Jagraj Singh and not Jagraj. To those that are criticising I suggest you view all the videos and take the positives. Even I don't agree with all the views but am happy to set aside differences and look at the greater good of what bhaji has started. This project if you like is a labour of love, he has given up a successful career and performs this parchar out of love for Sikhi. Sikh leaders should be paying for his work but instead in this era of kaljug Jagraj Singh is relying on donations! If we don't support up and coming naujwan parcharaks like this for their selfless service we need to question and ask ourselves what contribution have we made since following Sikhi apart from at best sitting on back benches? If you feel bhaji can improve or have public speaking experience I suggest you get in touch through the site and let be known your recommendations. Jagraj Singh posts on this site occasionally and I'm certain will be happy to take on concerns. He is very easy going and thoroughly down to earth.
  13. Bhai Balbir Singh Ji (from Maate Matang) the most energy filled Bir Ras especially number 3! http://www.sikhroots.com/audio-mp3/B/12-bhai-balbir-singh/165-maate-matang-jare-jar-sang.html Bhai Gurmel Singh - such a smooth voice, all of their kirtan touches the heart. Bhai Jeevan Singh Ji (short but can listen to it repeatedly pure anand) Bibi Rajkanwal Kaur
  14. Some of the best kirtan I've ever heard and grew up listening to these back in the 70's. Just hope the links work.
  15. 16. ------ Forwarded Message From: Illari Aragón <coordination@barhumanrights.org.uk> Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2013 10:38:21 +0100 To: <undisclosed-recipients:;> Subject: [Reminder] BHRC Seminar on the Death Penalty in India: The case of Professor Devinder Bhullar. 31st July at DSC [Please circulate widely] Seminar on the Death Penalty in India The case of Professor Devinder Bhullar Wednesday, 31st July 2013, 6:00 -8:00 pm Doughty Street Chambers 53-54 Doughty St, London, WC1N 2LS. See map <http://barhumanrights.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=054f3995082bb41dbd340ee51&id=b2d7dc0d81&e=5aaa059537> . Places for this seminar are limited. Kindly RSVP if you would like to attend. The immediate risk of execution of Professor Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar in India has renewed concerns among the international community over the use of capital punishment. Professor Bhullar was convicted of involvement in the bombing of the All Indian Youth Congress in New Delhi and sentenced to death in 2001 under the now repealed Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act 1985 (“TADA”). The BHRC has recently released an Open Letter addressed to Indian authorities drawing attention to breaches of fair trial process and concerns over Professor Bhullar’s mental health [see letter] <http://barhumanrights.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=054f3995082bb41dbd340ee51&id=cd35f53fdf&e=5aaa059537> . Specifically, the BHRC manifested concern over a "confession" induced by torture and lack of supporting evidence. Professor Bhullar’s mental health now has deteriorated to the point where the death penalty is unlawful in Indian domestic law and international law. The seminar will spotlight Professor Bhullar's case, explore the strength of international law and consider the broader issue of capital punishment. * Followed by a reception. Speakers: Schona Jolly, Bar Human Rights Committee (BHRC) & barrister at Cloisters. Saul Lehrfreund MBE, Death Penalty Project. Peter Tatchell, Peter Tatchell Foundation. Chiara Sangiorgio, Campaigner-Death Penalty. Amnesty International. Chaired by: Kirsty Brimelow QC, Chairwoman - Bar Human Rights Committee (BHRC) & barrister at Doughty Street Chambers. Supported by Kesri Lehar Human Rights Campaign, Bhai Khanaiya Jee Aid, 1984 Genocide Coalition. It is an independent body concerned with protecting the rights of advocates, judges and human rights defenders around the world. The Committee is concerned with defending the rule of law and internationally recognised legal standards relating to human rights and the right to a fair trial. The remit of BHRC extends to all countries of the world, apart from its own jurisdiction of England & Wales. This reflects the Committee's need to maintain its role as an independent but legally qualified observer, critic and advisor, with internationally accepted rule of law principles at the heart of its agenda. unsubscribe from this list <http://barhumanrights.us2.list-manage.com/unsubscribe?u=054f3995082bb41dbd340ee51&id=f037ef7b0e&e=5aaa059537&c=9fee002e4f> | update subscription preferences <http://barhumanrights.us2.list-manage.com/profile?u=054f3995082bb41dbd340ee51&id=f037ef7b0e&e=5aaa059537> ------ End of Forwarded Message
  17. Discussed before. Previous posts state: kMinAw dyvY isK ko lyvY nih ikC dwm [ myrw soeI is`K hoie phuMcy ly mm Dwm [ So I think the above line and quotes from other sources pretty much makes everything crystal clear. Guru Ji said : jo koaU myrw isK khwvY, pwhul ly suB krmu kmwvY [ then how can you be a Sikh without taking Amrit? therefore non-amritdhari person is not a Sikh. SRM: http://www.sgpc.net/...hap_eleven.html it is stated : Article XVIII q. A baptised ought to get his wife also baptised. There is of course ambiguity as to what the exact meaning of this article would be, as in my opinion it shows that it is preferable for a match of "baptized" individuals, as suggested by the word "ought." However, I personally don't believe the description according to the SGPC site is clear enough to suggest it is a neccessity as far as the SGPC Maryada is concerned. Nevertheless, like I say the ambiguity allows scope to take it either way that it is a must, or that it is preferable.
  18. Please review the film with top scores. As we know this is the largest and most respected movie database in the world. By scoring the film well, we can highlight the film to movie buffs worldwide and their eyes will open to the injustices faced by Sikhs. Apologies if this has been posted previously.
  19. Either he is a Sikh or he isn't. The definition of a Sikh can be found here. Secondly changing your path to Sikhi should begin with love for the path because you intend to practice with dedication to Guru Sahib. If its to convince his parents to accept you, something you have mentioned time and time again, then I'd say it's better not to convert as its for all the wrong reasons. A non practicing Sikh like this fella is NOT a Sikh, but someone born to Sikh parents; if as you say they are devout. To me this could be the sticking point. My presumption, although I might be wrong, is they wish for him to eventually follow Sikhi more closely then he presently is and do not want him to be engaged in an interfaith relationship. What they should not be doing is discriminating if both of you are ready to follow Guru Sahib with devotion.
  20. I'm not as learned as some of the folk on here but will attempt to cover some of the points raised. I've listened to a few of Bhai Panthpreet Singhs videos over the years and feel the originating post to be an inaccurate reflection of them as a Gursikh. "No mechanical repition of Naam" Mechanical repetition of Naam and Gurbani without understanding or feeling is what we are trying to avoid and I feel this is the point they are making. They have on stage extolled the virtues of Naam Simran but prefer the repetition to be in a calm and controlled manner. I agree that they should not mock a particular style. Association and partnership with missionary Harjinder Sabhra and associates No comment as I did not know they were linked No clear answer on Dasam Granth, putting doubt in Sangat's minds It's ok to support Dasam Granth Sahib openly, I do as well. By the same token I also agree that the 'Panth' needs to decide as a whole on matters considered controversial, whether they be meat, Raagmala, Keski vs Kesh, Dasam Granth...etc. The current Maryada is acceptable to almost all Jathebandhies apart from say 1% of differences. Once a law (SRM) has been passed by leading Gursikhs of the time then it is not wise to quarrel over it, but to change it through legitimate means. This is a sticking point as we do not have a leadership worthy of making suitable Panthic changes as they bow to Delhi and Badal et al, none are Rehitvaan Gursikhs. We are all brothers and sisters, no such thing as Mahapurkh or enlightened ones They stated a fact that, prior to the trend in this Century, no pursh was called a Sant. In one of their videos, they mention meeting an enlightened Gursikh and who upon meeting they could smell the most wonderful scent - cant recall the name, possibly agarvansh? If you disagree with the quotes in Gurbani or their meanings, its best to talk to them directly. Most of their DVDs have contact details. No clear answer on meat, putting doubt in Sangat's minds. see above
  21. In no particular order: First Blood (Rambo) Untouchables Ong Bak Godfather part 2 IP Man, the second film was average at best. 300 Saving Private Ryan The Naked Gun - Parts 1 and 2, had me in stitches Kids films are just the best: Home Alone 1 Nanny McPhee Brave Ice Age Madagascar Shrek Golden Compass Lion King
  22. Is it possible to buy this in DVD format and not MP3 (like from Amazon)?
  23. It's an observation. I do not listen to Hindi/Bhangra beats any more but can spot them a mile of. If you go to a raag darbar, any hall will be half full at best. Whereas if someone renowned for flashy tunes turns up, Gurdwara halls are full to the brim and people are clambering to sit at the front. The demand seems to be for the tunes and not the Gurbani being recited. If it was for Gurbani, Gurdwarey would be packed daily. Same applies to Jatha smagams. People are more interested in their favourite Kirtani and will quickly rush back from the Langar or take a break from the important Panthic decisions they are making with friends :wow: when a famous Kirtani gets on stage. These are just my views and if you feel they are nonsense, that's absolutely fine.
