Thanks for all your input. I have decided I will attend. My friend has always attended the gurdwara when requested and shown the upmost respect. I will obviously not bow to any idols etc.

I have a close family friend who is doing some jag rata at the local mandhir for his sons 18th bday. Now whenever we have had any type of path etc he always attends at the gurdwara. Would you attend the sons 18th at the mandhir?

What's actually wrong with this? Why are we losing culture and tradition? No one is saying the piece of thread will protect you...what's the harm in using this day to appreciate your sister and taking out time. I do this and will continue to do so. I'm ready for the keyboard warriors

I too have seen my family suffer apart from my dad who acknowledges the jaggah. I have sen majority of my family that hasn't really suffer - children passing away, divorce, drugs, general unhappiness. Paji - glad you advised not to try and make a u turn as really not that simple.

Regarding the snakes - they are linked to the shrines. The snake is a form of the spirit - they can change forms. They only demand manta as your families would have started this tradition.

For the families with these shrines they will know/have experienced these shrines are very much real (note I am not saying they are gurnat). My q is why do these spirits roam on earth and demand these shrines?

Penji - do they still do the sehaj/akhand path at the shrine as this is banned in Punjab. When you say it is done in the name of the shaeeds - do you mean it is no done in the name of the ancestors?

All Skipsies should be banned for everyone unless it's the obvious - elderly and disabled. No one is a VIP in front of guru ji. My problem is not with the way she dresses or whether she is genuine, my issue is with the singhs running around after her! Out of interest - would we get the VIP treatment at a mandhir?

Sorry I disagree with you. She received VIP treatment with her security - our people are stupid for allowing this. Rest of the sangat patiently waiting to have darshan of guru ji and she gets to skip the line with media making a big deal of it?
