  1. Hello, I am new to Sikhism. About 5 months ago I found Sikhism and developed a strong faith in it, but bounced back to Buddhism (which I had been for about 11 years) when I got some backlash from my fiance, but have recently in the past several weeks come back to Sikhism due to meeting the same issues I had before with Buddhism. Coinciding with my renewed faith in Sikhism, I moved into an apartment. The day that I moved into our apartment I saw a Sikh man (assuming he is a Sikh based on his dastar and beard). He lives across the park lot from me. I have seen him many times and spoke with him very briefly once while we passed each other walking our dogs. There is also one other Sikh man in the building next to mine. I think there is meaning behind my move into this apartment (it is temporary and circumstances were abrupt for it) in that I am now living very close to two Sikhs (I live in Florida and not a lot of Sikhs in my area) coinciding with my renewed faith in Sikhism. Seeing these men inspire faith in me. For a couple reasons I do not keep Kesh or wear a dastar at this time. I don't know if it is appropriate, or how I would go about it, but I would like to discuss Sikhism with my neighbors. I would be especially interested to know if they go to a Gurdwara, as I have not found a local Gurdwara when I search the internet for one. Any thoughts on this matter would be appreciated. Thanks! Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh -I.

  2. Well, the way to go about it is simply, the next time you see him, say Hi again, talk about your dogs, then ask, "Say, are you a Sikh?". Once he says yes, go on from there. After chatting for a few minutes, you can say that you are very interested in the subject, and would he like to come to your apartment to continue the conversation over coffee or whatever. No problem, you should keep learning and work through your doubts/questions before taking a step such as that, and also be able to answer all/most of the questions your non-Sikh neighbors are likely to ask you. Well, one more thought is that though I appreciate the desire for a personal and real connection to an actual living Sikh who is your neighbor, note also that it's not necessarily the case that your particular neighbor will be a hugely knowledgeable Sikh who can answer all your questions in a satisfying way. Anotherwords, please excuse human fallibilities. It's also possible your Sikh neighbor may lead you astray. You can always double-check by posting your questions here.

  3. Either this Athwal character was and still is a Indian government R&AW agent or a useful patsy fool bumbling baffon who was caught up in a clever Indian plot to malign Prime minister Justin Trudeu, Canadian Sikh politicians and canadian Sikhs in general. Either way his appearance in Sikh circles needs further research.... from what i gathered reading up....he wasnt known in the wider Sikh community and mysteriously he is in the headlines now?? very strange he is being labeled a Sikh extremist? . Basically from what I can read into the situation is that atwal was actual an Indian agent who was conveniently black listed by the Indian govt back in 80s to prevent him being deported to india on grounds of human rights. Now they need him again but in a different way so they removed him from black list to let him come to india and they turned on him and used him to malign Canadian Sikhs. To get revenge and one over the Sikhs for denying Indian govt agents into gurdwara's worldwide for their interference in Sikh religious affairs. We need to remember Indian government intelligence agencies are far too clever for the Low IQ Sikh leadership in the west and india. Corrupt Indian brahmin establishment plans things decades ahead like chess pieces, so they had their agents bring down the air india plane in 1985 and blamed khalistani's for it , blamed a weird group called a unknown dashmesh regiment (probably formed by R&AW indian agents) blamed talwinder singh parmer who allegedly and mysteriously was killed in 1992 by Indians but no proof of his death? BKI was formed by parmer and a mysterious guy who worked for canadian intelligence service CSIS it was revealed in the air india trials public enquiry in 2006. The plot just thickens..... it is very interesting because it exposes not just these alleged 1980s "Sikh extremists" but also the roles of canadian and Indian intelligence agencies of the era and how they funded and colluded with each other in very deadly outcomes to blame the canadian Sikh community and oppress them from speaking out about the murderous campaigns of the Indian's.

  4. I think Jagmeet Singh is handling things fairly well given the full onslaught of all media outlets, with veteran pro-india journalists( Terry M ,Terry G, Jonathan Kay…to name a few) having a field day tearing apart their favourite prey and plenty of new comers honing their skills by regurgitating. But that’s what they do. They need an angle to attack us. We give them plenty. We have over a dozen MPs and a Federal party leader, yet we can barely muster a proper response or show our side of the story in a competent manner. Apart from a few intelligent voices coming from WSO and our British pal Sunny Hundal, there seems to be a complete silence from our so called leaders. This is the time when leadership is needed. Sadly our “leaders” only know to scream and shout at nagar kirtans. If we had 12 competent journalists/reporters from our community, giving the diverse views we hold, it would be of more use than having 12 MPs who are too scared to utter a word. Our kaum needs real introspection of where we invest our energies. Politicians in these western democracies are more akin to mascots and punching bags as opposed to power holders. Look to how other communities are functioning in Canada. For example, the Chinese demographics are far greater and also much more wealthy and successful, yet they stay off the radar pretty well. They don’t get into the muddy waters of politics. Our community keeps jumping to the forefront politically and then start complaining when the goray lay into us. I hope the best for Jagmeet singh. The road to 2019 elections is going to be very bumpy. Not only will he be facing off against the ignorants, but also the subtle hand of GOI working through its favourite media proxies.

  8. If anyone did research into the R&AW they would realise it was formed in late 1960s by Indian prime minister sardar patel to monitor, disrupt and subvert the political and religious activities of Sikh leadership in punjab who was calling for end to discrimination and greater rights for a Sikhs in their own state of punjab (as was promised to the leadership by nehru in 1946) It was reported in the newspapers of the time that In 1980s pre-operation blue star the R&AW also shipped arms into the darbar sahib complex Golden Temple via huge truck conveys and the police nor army not IB (intelligence bueru) stop them. Why was that? Why was they not stopping their alleged enemy Khalistani anti-nationalists get armed to the teeth? Very strange It was also reported that the R&AW shipped weapons to their pakistani christian agents who in turn gave them to actual Sikh separatists who had crossed the border and these pakistani christian R&AW agents then gave the locations of these separatists so that the R&AW could kill them within pakistani punjab and in Indian punjab. The R&AW essentially is a highly anti-sikh outfit it is a terrorist outfit and it does need to be exposed to the wider world what it has been involved in.

  9. Singhs is known for sikh activism which is good but also his past activism of supporting troubling rajoana case-interjecting in indian constitution of death penalty all together is bad optics all around, Lets see how this will get interperted in cdn media- a) supporting rajaona rights of convicted bomber of punjab cm - bad optics, this will play out like in media - someone equivalent to supporting rights of someone potentially- killing cdn province premier regardless of cm history or not. b) interjecting too much into indian constitution where death penalty is legitimate, again bad optics- another country federal leader meddling with indian constitutions. Regarding b) He already said recently what india or indians do in india its none of his business so thats strong statement. Look i've been saying all long take questionable people poster off from gurdwara in the past, i sounded like broken record. I've been saying for ten years on here its wrong based on ruling of canadian judical system and air india enquiry- FYI cost of both were $100 million spent, its bad pr disaster, bad optics, massive loop hole to goi to exploit - someday it will come back and bite us in the backside and it did, fast fwd to today before many gurdwara had this poster but now two of them out of 100 have it and recent news i've learned in nagar kirtan supported by all gurdwaras in canada it much well thought out, less posters definitely wont include parmar which nagar kirtan stopped doing that 10 years ago. Awesome idea, thats how it needs to be played. However, i think this motion on its own will pass without any issue in cdn parliament as indian current home minister himself called it sikh genocide and he on record saying that. There are plenty of leverage there and well thought out educated talking points to those oppose it typical left wing socialist agenda, very pro union and workers, speak to normal , middle class people, pro environmentalist, pro free universal pharma care AND BIG ONE- electoral reform, lot of it will depend on ontario provincial election there are polls showing ndp is gaining wind, if they win provincially this june in ontario like they have done in bc and alberta, this will set very good pleasant tone for federal ndp leader-jagmeet singh for next year federal election.

  13. Very well could be a blessing in disguise. If we dedicated ourselves to the Path and it simply resulted in praise from everyone the ego would only grow stronger. Dying while yet alive can be painful, seemingly, but this type of temporary pain is a blessing. I feel you're making incredible gains and people's response could be part of Vaheguru Ji's Kirpa and may be more about the state of those individuals than you on the other hand. You may be being shielded from unnecessary connection or those not truly on the same path. Stay strong in your Sikhi.

It's been my experience Keshdari are really approachable. @BhForce Veer Ji's advice is probably better, to ask if they are a Sikh first, but I've only ever gotten a genuine and positive response just sayin Sat Sri Akal to start. They would probably love to talk to you and would know if the Sangat meets somewhere if no Gurudwara is around.

  15. We should also stick to traditional cooking materials. E.g. becoming sarbloh bibeki and using only clay earthenware to store foods/water. Copper vessels are excellent for water storage too since the Cu2+ ions have lots of health benefits e.g. removing pain/arthritis. Many Gurdwaras still use aluminium cookware which as we know is carcinogenic. I wouldn't even recommend 'stainless steel' since its the stainless component which much like 'non-stick' and 'water-resistant' synthetic materials, causes cancer. Secondly, the steel itself is an alloy containing other elements which are carcinogenic e.g. chromium(IV), nickel which is also an irritant. When you do your research you'll soon see that Guru Ji's way is the best and we should stick to it if we want to live healthy lives.

  16. I agree jagmeet singh is facing obvious campaign of political harassment, dog whistle politics as they call it. Because 1) he is an educate smart minority brown male 2) he is a turban wearing sikh 3) He defends his community and is passionate about getting justice for the Sikhs for the 1980s genocide and other attacks india carried out on the Sikh community. The Canadian public should ask themselves is that so wrong? If that was a jewish candidate and he/she was campaigning to have the genocide against them by nazi germany recognised in law by Canadian parliament no one would be against it but we have racists and anti-sikh bigots in the canadian media and politics that need to be exposed. For once and to his credit Sunny hundal no stranger to controversy in the Sikh community for his anti-sikh and negative articles of past years.....has recently been very balanced against the tirade of attacks against Sikh politicians and prime minister Justin trudeu. Sunny has actually called out the unfair rabid coverage recently Sikhs in canada and india. Just look at his social media and he is shocked at the way right wing indian/hindu activists and canadian right wing press has behaved. I think he is realising the scale of the racial and religious problems against minorities in canada and india. What is clear now is agenda of the so called canadian journalists should be exposed using the very words they use against their targets. So if the target is jagmeet singh research all the articles a particular journalist has written about him and show the world that particular journalists and their publication a clear bias and racism against that Sikh politician. Call out that journalist for their racist and racial biases against other targets they victimise Doesn't matter if its jagmeet or another Sikh politician we cant have racist/religiously hateful lines of questioning in civlised democracies and those so called journalists who fall foul of standards in jounalism should be exposed. Its as simple as that. I particular don't want to see a Sikh leader of a mainstream political party or prime minister of country in the western nations they are born into or living in. In my view Sikhs would just be used as puppets while their business cooperate or banking puppet masters have them do their bidding while harming the Sikh image in front of the public. Just like prime minister manmohan singh was used as the fall guy the man to blame had congress party been accused of anything bad. Sonia gandhi allegedly said she doesnt want the be prime minister of India so offered it to manmohan as a gesture of good will to his community. The real reason she didnt want to be leader was because no serious Indian nationalist would have voted for a foreign born person also she wanted to hold the reigns of power behind the scenes use the puppet manmohan to do congress parties bidding also show the world that congress party has reform no longer the terrorist genocidal party that had murdered thousands of Sikhs from 1980s onwards. So although its great to see Sikhs rise in Canadian political scene it is also dangerous for our image because people angered by their governments policies will be quick to point out the obvious racial and religious differences of their elected representative rather than point out the bad policies. Sikhs should concentrate on creating political think tanks, banks, huge wealth funds and businesses and use that power for the shadows to influence government policy.

  18. Guest Sinner Jee, we are all sinners in higher or lesser measure, but we are sinners, that is for sure. You taking 2 steps forward and then some back, well that is not new also, so are we all also not better than you, some are even worse, they call them sikhs, but they go on bullying and enjoy troubling people, inflating their ego... So come on, you are not that bad, at least you do not hurt the feelings of others. You must bear in mind, that you go to the Guru Dwaras, to listen the keertan and kathas, the wadeayee of Guru Jee, not to mingle with people, so do not get disheartened if they the people want to stay away from you, that is their problem. People do change with times, just as their state of mind changes, what else can the poor people do? It is in their nature to change, sometimes for good, some for bad. You see, as long as men are under the control of the trickery mind, they are bound to change helplessly. Maybe, Wahiguru wants to make you stronger right from just now. You know what, when we shall leave this eartly plane, we shall go all alone by ourselves, only He and His bhakti shall only go with us. Then you should also know, that Guru Jee has never ever stopped loving you, He cares for you, just as for any of His jeev atmas; the thing is, most of us have turned our faces away from Him, so we feel lost. He is like the Sun, giving His light and warmth to all equally, whosoever is faced towards Him, independent of any distinctions of color, class, gender, or being a sinner or a saint. Just as the Sun can not change its nature, so is Wahiguru Akal Purukh. He is so generous, that He overlooks all our sins, nor does He judge anybody. If ever we find ourselves strayed, it is because our own karam, our planted seeds, which give us the fruits according to those of our very own karam. We are all weak and dumb, and shameless to the extent, that we even blame Him, when He is nothing but an Infinite ocean of love and mercy. Our Guru Sahiban have beautifully described Him as : Aad Sach, Jugad sach, Hae Bhee Sach, Nanak hosee bhee Sach. You see, He is changeless, He has been truly an endless fountain of Infinite love, right from the very beginning, He has been changelessly so during all the Yugas, He is changeless even now, and He shall remain changeless in His swaroop of Pyaar, for the the endless time. You see, unlike us, or gods and goddesses,He is pure always, for He has no mind, He is all purity, love and mercy, so it is baseless to accuse Him of not loving us, or Him stop loving us, for only under the influence of mind does one change or waver. We can put caps on the bottles, but no one can ever put a cap on the ocean. This is the case of a limited material ocean. So then, how can anything be put on Him, who is an Infinite Ocean of Love and mercy, in order to make Him stop pouring out His love ? The very fact, that He loves you, is that you are not satisfied with life, and are still looking ahead for His love. Believe it, if it was not for Him, one could not even think of Him. It is more about his pull from within yourself, than any amount of efforts of yours to come near Him. Just a small benti, please never ever blame or accuse Sachay Patshah Wahiguru Akal Purukh, whether willingly or unintentionally. It is the biggest injustice, that one can commit, not only towards Him, but towards oneself, for we are turning our faces away from Him; and we all know what happens then; man, maya, kal, yam doots, have all the freedom given by us to them, to keep us trapped in this mayavee creation . Do His Simran / japna, as much as possible whether you feel you enjoy it or not, just keep going on, He is our anchor, and without this bhakti, there is no way for no one. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.

  19. OP Sinner, not everybody has the company of sangat. I’ve never had the communication of physical sangat and that will probably be the case with many people. Being with the right sangat or within a sangat is a benefit, but if one doesn’t have that, then it should not change the love between you and Guruji. Everybody is going to be different and it’s impossible to be the same all the time. You should participate in sangat during Gurbani or kirtan. If nobody talks to you, so what. At least you’ve been sitting in physical sangat. It’s not necessary to be best friends with everybody, as Guruji is who you go for to the Gurdwara. They will give you the Hukamnama that’s meant for you and don’t worry about it being the right or wrong one for you. You need to find God from within also. And work on the trust and relationship between you and Guruji, that’s what counts. If you find that you are very uncomfortable, then go to another Gurdwara with different sangat or go at different times of the day or when there’s less sangat, then you will feel the change.

  20. Sikhi is khaneo tikhi, valo Niki. Unless there are instant results people become weak and expect Guru Sahib to work miracles in their favour. There is no easy answer it's a hard slog for everyone, until you reach the stage of sehaj and have complete control of senses and 5 chor. It's for the reasons you've outlined emphasis has been placed on increasing naam and performing Ardas. This is why Mahapurash perform immense naam kamai to burn sanchit karams and thus form a close bond with Vaheguru Ji. Without this effort we have little chance of finding inner peace, the only other way is direct kirpa 'bin bhaga Satsang na labhai, bin Sangat mail bhareejai jeeo'.

  23. this is the price they are paying for aghiratghana , they are now becoming what Guru ji saved them from. RSS are thugs who are majority criminals already; over 8 members of BJP cabinet have active criminal cases against them including one being investigated for murder. Dalits were never considered part of the Dharma according to such thugs only they exist for serving the Brahmins as slaves and should feel thankful for that. So the 80 percent of who are claimed by Hindu propagandists are not hindus by the fact of their treatment and denial of knowledge of the faith/s. So India was never really 'Hindu' dominant it was lacking in dharma generally...

  24. That is a good point. I remember driving around green street at midday. With a white work colleague. He remarked how there were so many people on the high street at this time of day and if any of these people had jobs. Muslims are known as benefit scroungers with many doing illegal activities such as fraud and cab driving to increase their income. Is it any wonder muslims have a higj prison population. The sad thing is young girls are attracted to bad boy criminal types as they love the danger and living on the edge. Then they end up living in some squalid flat, become muslims and outcasts.

  27. On March 20, 2000, in the backdrop of the then President of the United States, Bill Clinton’s visit to India, 35 members of the Minority Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir were gunned down in the Chittisinghpura village of Anantnag district of Kashmir. The army claimed that it was the handiwork of the “Pakistan-backed terrorists of the Islamic Fundamentalist group Lashkar-e-Taiba”. A report titled ‘Terrorists execute first Sikh massacre in Kashmir Valley, signal fresh ethnic cleansing’ by New Delhi based India Today, claimed that “the foreigner members of the Lashkar-e-Toiba who executed the massacre came dressed as Indian soldiers, complete with fake or stolen uniforms”. The Army’s Rashtiya Rifles later claimed to kill five “foreign terrorists” which turned out to be locals, in what is called the Pathribal Fake Encounter Case. The economic times reported that “The CBI had in 2006 indicted five men of the Rastriya Rifles for allegedly killing five civilians, of whom three were dubbed as Pakistani terrorists responsible for the massacre of 36 Sikhs at Chittisinghpura area of Anantnag district. Two other civilians were allegedly claimed to be unknown terrorists.” In 2017, Retd Lt Gen KS Gill, who was part of the investigation, in an interview to Sikh News Express, told Journalist Jasneet Singh that the Indian Army was involved in the massacre and the report had been submitted to L.K.Advani who was the Home Minister in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government then. Read the excerpt of the interview here: When in 2000 the massacre of 35 Sikhs happened in ChittiSinghpura, what really happened there? It was the mischief of the surrendered militants. The army was using the surrendered militants that time to fight, to sacrifice these surrendered militants instead of themselves. In that area (of ChittiSinghpura), where Maharaja Ranjit Singh had settled Sikhs, and given them lands, and orchards, these surrendered militants hatched a plot and the army soldiers helped them… The army was guilty, not the commanders, but till the Captain level. What they did was to take the men out in the middle of the night. Before they did that, they gained the confidence of the Sikhs there. Then one night they finally gunned them down. If the army was involved, was there any action? The full report was prepared. We said the army was involved. We asked for a judge of the Supreme Court to look at it. Nothing happened, Farooq Abdullah’s government was there which also formed an organization to investigate. There was chaos… Police had to shoot at people. Then the government decided not to investigate That time the NDA was in government? Yes. Advani was the Home Minister. We gave the first report to him… Clinton (who was on a visit to India) kicked up a row, saying that ‘due to me a lot of lives have been lost. I want to know exactly what happened.’ Then Human Rights organisation of the United Nations was sent a report of what happened, and the Americans too. Were there any political reasons behind the killings? Only this that the BJP government wanted to tell Clinton that in Jammu and Kashmir Pakistan is killing people. Propaganda against Pakistan. That Pakistan killed Sikhs. So BJP planted this to impress Clinton? Yes, to help India against Pakistan. That time America was providing arms to Pakistan. India was not getting any aid. Why Sikhs? Sikhs became the victims. See when the order is passed, Home Minster tells the Chief Minster (Farooq Abdullah), he tells the Director General of Police, he tells the SP, by that time it’s mishandled. On the lower level, old enmities play a role. When things got out of control, Advani pressurised for something to be shown, to pin it on Pakistan. Then the army killed five innocent Kashmiris on a mountain to show that we killed those who attacked the Sikhs. But they killed innocent boys. https://freepresskashmir.com/2018/03/20/watch-retired-lt-gen-says-indian-army-was-involved-in-sikh-massacre-of-chittisinghpura/

  28. If you want to hold that position fine but as as NDP-Federal party leader- he has to agree with Canadian judicial system-supreme court ruling which acquitted bagri and malik but in same breath hold parmar responsible as master mind and impartial inquiry did the same. Otherwise he undermines it, he looks too biased, not impartial, not fit for his job, laughing stock infront of canadians bad political optics all around, politics is about optics and perception, by acting dumb in the first interview he reconfirmed lot of people bias and fears. He is federal party leader first. And last week he acccepted the canadian judical system-supreme court ruling and inquiry findings unequivocally which he should have done in oct instead of falling into political trap of ujjal dosanjh.

  29. Meanwhile, bro, the average Hindu on the street, when asked what what religion/dharam/mazhab he belongs to will say "I am a Hindu". The term is used in the Constitution of India (Hindu religion). If the basic law of the country uses the terminology of Hindu religion, why do you feel the need to object? It's like trying to be more Catholic than the Pope. The Sikhs, Muslims, or Christians did not impose the Constitution on the Hindus, the latter imposed it on the former. Just wondering, how do you define "ism"?
