  2. Brother TejS, indeed it is a beautiful question you have brought forward, though all the members above have given their valid answers , anyhow I would also like to share a bit from the wisdom of SGGS, which in my opinion answers the question in your post. Why are we here? That, only He can answer to our satisfaction, when we reach to Him, but for meanwhile, we are here caught in the cycle of transmigration, and we ought to find our way out. So Saevak Jo Laaeiaa Saev Bahur N Aavai Jonee Baatt ||4|| Sree Kabeer Jee, right from the first verse above, tells us about our purpose of being born as humans, other thing is, we waste it foolishly. Then in the last verse, he also, gives us clear instructions of how to get out of this maha maya bhavsagar. He says, devotedly meditate upon Him, and you shall never ever have to come into reincarnation. Dhan Guru Arjun Dev Maharaj, also says: Prabh Kai Simaran Kaal Pareharai || In these His three verses above from Sukhmani Sahib, He guarantees us, that if one meditates on Him, death, reincarnation and the very Kal, shall be defeated, and we shall get rid of them. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.

  3. At the moment Sikhism is in its golden period. The next 50 years are crucial for its survival and prosperity. It is a make or break time for the faith. If we continue the way we are going Sikhi as we know it will become a insignificant religion on the world stage confined only to Punjabi people and not like a ethically and racially diverse religion like other faiths. Our time is running out. We must act now for the benefit of the next generations who are counting on us for their future. But we are on borrowed time. Unless drastic steps are taken to take the faith further and expand all around the world. If this is not done within the next 50 years it is game over. There will not be an opportunity like this again. Many if not all will eventually become athiest or convert to other religions. This is actually happening now but will get increasingly worse. The next 50 years is either success or failure as far as numbers go. After 50 years are up. There is no way of turning back the tide. That is why I stress the importance in a crucial period and juncture for the faith. We need huge scale missionary activity throughout the world from tibet to mongolia. Dont expect people to one day wake up and look at a basics of sikhi video on youtube then convert on their own will. Yes we can implement digital technology to reach to the masses but that is only one method. We need boots on the ground. Missionary centres on every corner of the earth to spread Guru Nanaks message. We must lobby our so called leaders to fund these projects. Money and resources need to be poured in for the effort to begin. Dedication and commitment is needed from us all. Sacrafices will need to be made. It will not be easy but we can achieve the goal with the right methods and knowledge. Dont think I am just typing this as a passing thought. I am in the process of setting up one of only in the UK of a Sikh missionary centre. If people are intrested in helping and are from the the east London area. Please contact me on ways you can help and contribute to the project. Any thoughts on this crucial period in time that we must act on? WJKK WJKF

  4. Why is it that we have been placed in this cycle first of all? Was there a fall from grace similar to the Abrahamic religions? I'm curious to know if this is addressed within Sikhi?

  5. Why did the Sarbatt Khalsa 2015 fail? Because we had no identified issues to resolve; no viable leadership alternatives; no progressive plans outlined and above all we elected sampradaic thugs to lead us. Who called this Sarbatt Khalsa? The UAD of the infamous Simranjeet Singh Maan, a second-rate politician, and the more rebellious elements of the Sant-Samaj who wished to sit on higher chairs than their superiors. Let us take examples, from the Sikh past, as to why Sarbatt Khalsas were held and what their outcomes were: 1.) Bhai Mani Singh Ji, with the concurrence of other elected Sikh leaders, called a Sarbatt Khalsa to resolve the Tat-Bandai conflict. The Bandais military strength was decimated and the Mughals also forced to retreat for the time. This Sarbatt Khalsa addressed as to who was the Guru Ad perpetum, the Guru Granth Sahib Ji or Banda Singh Bahadur. 2.) The next Sarbatt Khalsa divided the Sikhs into 5 Jathas, all 200 strong, to bolster the Panth's depleted military strength. These Jathas consisted of the younger Sikhs, Bhujangis, and were led by veteran Nihangs such as Baba Dip Singh Ji. 3.) A Sarbatt Khalsa was then held in the jungles of Punjab to debate the Mughals' offer of governorship to the Sikhs. Five Sikhs were elected by the assembled Sikhs to debate the pros and cons of the offer and present them to the Sangat. The Sarbatt Khalsa ended with a re-definition of governorship i.e. -The governor would have a council of five Sikhs who would continually advise him on matters affecting the Sangat. -The governor would be bound to the dictums of the Sangat and not vice versa. -The governor would retain the prerogative to elect his own successor but only if the sangat ratified his course of action. 3.) Kapur Singh, the elected governor, would commune the next Sarbatt Khalsa. In this, he would demarcate the Sikhs into two blocs- the Budha Dal and Tarna Dal. Each and every one of these Sarbatt Khalsas, and successive assemblies, would follow the same course: 1.) The assembly would be declared, Sikhs would collate. 2.) All who collated, would then elect a body to debate upon and identify the most crucial matters facing the Panth. 3.) A body of intellectuals and leaders, in both social and military competencies, would then be elected to decide which course of action to take in whichever crucial matters they were mandated to resolve. In the 2015 Sarbatt Khalsa what we had was: 1.) All issues were identified prior by UAD and the Samaj. The Sangat was involved nowhere. 2.) A body was already elected, prior, to the event itself which had formed it's own opinions and preconceived notions. 3.) Intellectuals and the more honest leaders (including some sell-outs desiring to fool the sangat) were nowhere present. 4.) And lastly, but most importantly, all the crucial issues worth debating were absent. What were these issues? A.) In post-colonial India, why are the Sikhs facing socio-political persecution whenever they desire to express sentiments of self-determination? B.) The beadbi at Bargari has historically been witnessed in post-independence Punjab as well. What are the hidden motives behind such acts? C.) As institutes of the Panth, our Jathas and SGPC are fast deteriorating. What can be done to either restore their pristine states or amputate them from the greater body politic? D.) How can the supremacy of the Akal-Takhat be re-established? How can it be ensured that the institute is taken out of the hands of politicians and instead put in the hands of the Panth? E.) Jathedari, as conceived by the SGPC and Deras, is greatly varied from what it was historically. Is this new current of leadership viable or should we revert to the historic model? F.) Is Western democracy and secular administration conducive for the Khalsa Panth? If so then how to bring it in consort with Panthic political norms? If not, then is it high time that we ignore parliamentary procedures and form our own? G.) How can Punjab, the Sikh homeland, be saved from it's present regressive state? How can the border issues; the assets issues and the waters issues be resolved satisfactorily? If not, then what policy is the Panth to adopt? H.) How can Sikhs, globally, be brought under one single platform? I.) How can impartial Sikh leaders be identified and/or trained for the future? J.) How can Sikhi be spread globally? What we had instead was this: 1.) A prisoner is our Jathedar whilst his proxy retains true power. 2.) Sampradaic thugs, with proven track records of treachery, are our Jathedars. 3.) A regurgitation of penalizing KPS Gill and Brar. 4.) Go home everyone, end of show.

  6. Sister Convertgirl, it would be better, if the word conversion is not used here, for it sounds a bit cultist, and that is not the case. Tell your parents, that you have understood and realized, that by embracing sikhee, one changes for better. Talk to your parents lovingly and with respect, as it is through them you have got this human birth, and you by His kirpa, have realized the supreme importance of Sikhee in one´s life for God realization. Just as for example, a rusted piece of iron, can be turned out into gold, by the touch of"paras", the philosopher´s stone. So does one change, by applying the teachings in Gurbani in our day to day life. Maybe I sound arrogant, but for me as an human being, Sikhee is the path, where one has the opportunity of leaving behind all our limitations, maya, in the form of multiple gods, goddesses, and turn our faces to the One source of True Light/Akhand Jot, true love, bliss, liberation and the source of everything and everyone, who is none other than Wahiguru Akal Purukh. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.

  7. See with the karmic debt theory, I thought that we all, humanity collectively, made a mistake and thus were subjected to this cycle of lifetimes, however as @Kira wonderfully reminded me, that would only be possible if we were separate from God, which according to Gurbani, we aren't. So I thought the Sanatani concept of distracted souls living in the material world was interesting, however that raises the issue of being a separate entity to God once again. I just think that there has to be a reason for which we've been subjected to this cycle. And I personally think that if we were aware of that reason or our past mistakes, we would act more fruitfully towards repentance through our lifetimes.

  9. I'm fascinated by the karmic debt theory. The idea that we have to pay off our karams to people over the course of lifetimes, is an intriguing idea. I also wonder why our memories are wiped before each birth. Well, I kind of suspect it's done so that we can begin with a clean slate each time, so that we aren't unequivocally aware of any mistakes or paaps that we may have committed previously (which would then weigh on our conscience and seriously mess with our heads), but as I mentioned in another thread I believe any serious psychological hangups or problems that plague us in our current lifetime originate from previous experiences, so in that respect the memory wipe works on a basic level as long as we don't get serious about scratching the mental itch, as it were, but the underlying issues don't disappear just because we aren't consciously aware of the true reasons for why we are the way we are. Sometimes it seems to me as if we're almost toyed with. We're kind of on the back-foot from the very beginning. Is too much expected of us?

  11. According to Gurbani one can be Grehasti or Bairaagi or Abhaagi. Being Bairaagi comes with a rider that one must remain detached which is Extremely difficult disposition. Therefore most namesake or fake Bairaagi's actually end up being Abhaagi's. Kabeer, if you live the householder's life, then practice righteousness; otherwise, you might as well retire from the world. If someone renounces the world, and then gets involved in worldly entanglements, he shall suffer terrible misfortune. ||243|| Source - https://www.searchgurbani.com/guru-granth-sahib/ang/1377/line/58761 Therefore it is advisable to follow Grehasti marg especially if you are a female reason being - ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਰੂਪ ਚੇਰੀ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਸੋਭ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਤਾਰੇ ॥ Istari rup cheri ki niai sobh nahi bin bhartare. ||1|| Source - http://www.srigranth.org/servlet/gurbani.gurbani?Action=Page&Param=1268&g=1&h=1&r=1&t=1&p=0&k=0

  12. Can you please provide me with the definition in Gurbani you refer to.. Additionally if there is a definition in Gurbani then why does the rahit Maryada not use that definition?

  13. Yes you can and I do. A attack helicopter cannot define itself... And only guru sahib can define sikh.. So as long as I'm comfortable that I meet guru sahibs criteria and not someone else's I don't really care..

  14. Staying celibate or married, is a choice of free will to remain so. In that sense, Sikhee is a path of love, and is against any type of oppression or tyranny, be it from anybody. No one should be obliged or pushed to do the contrary against one´s will. Though many a times, being married is helpful, for when the winds of kaam blow hard, usually one is knocked out, unless one has the anchored oneself strongly at the Lotus Feet of Wahiguru Akal Purukh, through intense love and devotion. Anyhow, to best handle this or any situation, the only way is giving oneself totally unto Him, with mind, body, and soul; then we need not to worry, for then, He will be our pritpal rakhanhaar. Only then shall we have the strength, faith and courage to face any situations smilingly, for we will know that everything which comes, is by His hukum, by His Kirpa, worldly manmat people will question and doubt, but it is matter of a bhagat and his/her lover Wahiguru, to have that high avastha sharda. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.

  15. Thank you, for your kind, sweet words ??. Your mother will always be your mother and I couldnt be as good as her. I’m only giving my opinions and advise, to help. I also call my mother, mama sometimes too. You seem to know what to do and how to deal with it. You’re a good kid that uses knowledge and wisdom wisely, aswell as turning to Gurbani is a good role model for your siblings. May Waheguru keep you in Chardi Kala ???? PS: I forgot it’s Mother’s Day tomorrow, don’t forget to spend quality time with your mother.

  16. Oh no don’t cry little one ?. You are a strong soul and you will be able to find a way to deal with the insults. It’s only because you’re younger than them, that they think it’s ok to boss you around and get angry with you. If I was you, I’d ask politely why they do that. And see what they’re reply is. They are doing it more, because there is no reaction from you, so they think it’s ok to. But it’s not, they are taking out the anger of living with their older brother/brother in law’s family out on you. Next time, they upset you, tell them to talk to your father. Or if they have any complaints, then tell them, you’re not interested. They will not like it, but don’t let them push you around either, that it affects you. You’re probably keeping quiet for your mother, so she doesn’t have to worry about anything. Can you talk to your father? As the eldest child in the family, you can only do so much to help the younger ones. You’re a child yourself and you should not take so much stress. Please don’t cry, be happy, you have so much to look forward to. Have you called Sikh helpline for advise? If not, ask them for advise anonymously. May Waheguru take away your worries. ?

  17. The Gurbani quote's above are out of context and therefore invalid. Sukhmani Sahib say the world and reincarnation is a Maya play created by God only few who realize the road to God is within realize there is no incarnation. Shabad is the vehicle. Rehat, good character, religions and virtuous actions are the 4 tires. Nitnem is the accalerator and sins the brake pedal. The handbrake is being bemukh from Amrit

  18. As far as I know the whole "initial" reason shouldn't exist in the first place, everything is Akaal and this is just a manifestation of his play, the whole "first sin" would only work if we as a creation were separate from the creator, but at the core we're not separate from Akaal .

  20. Sikh is not khalsa.. You can be a sikh without taking Amrit.. Furthermore the definition of a sikh as defined by rehit maryada has been defined by politicians.. I define myself as a sikh whether someone else thinks I am is irrelevant.. Just as their are many amritdhari people I have met who I feel don't espouse sikhi despite taking Amrit.. Mool mantar defines the essence of sikhi. Why do we need additional texts edited by politicians to tell us what it means

I will say this make sure your homes have safe fire exits and you install smoke and fire alarms throughout which are hardwired to mains with battery back up ... if it wasn't for those battery smoke alarms we would not be here ... Trust everything Guru ji tells you beyond your own knowledge and other humans' . People have no idea how much care and love is there ...He has saved us so many times from disease, disgrace, cowardice by his advice and comforting words

  23. Basically gurbani is talking about and directly to those religious extremists/fanatics of hinduism, islam and christainity went around preaching all others religious books are false and only their religions has the only truth and path to salvation. Gurbani is saying those who do not understand the meanings and essence of most religious books are false. And most religious books are teaching humanity the same basic principles how to live a civilized human being and do good to each other and how to run a moral society and seek salvation through meditation/prayers. Gurbani is NOT saying Islam/quran is true so don't refute or counter its arguments. Is NOT saying vedas/hinduism is true so don't refute or counter its arguments. Is NOT saying bible/chrisianity is true so don't refute or counter its arguments. Because quite clearly in vast majority of instances in SGGS Ji most of rituals and tenets of islam, hinduism and christianity are countered and are refuted.

  24. Liberal Gorre may have their negative points but they are still a 100 times better than these conservative (often Racist) Gore. Just as there is anti semitism, Islamo phobia, I think it is safe to say there definitely is Sikh phobia as well. Usually we always link hatred towards Sikhs with Islamo phobia because they confuse us as Muslims. But the recent anti Sikh attitude in media (especially Canadian media) and rebel media is clearly Sikh phobia.
    1 point
  25. I still remember when rebel media made that video about Muslims grooming Sikh girls. Many people were happy not realizing that the only time these racist Gore ever speak in favour of Sikhs is if it is against Muslims plus they need to gather allies to fight Muslims. Otherwise they hate us almost as much as they hate Muslims. And check out all the Hindus cheering this video not realizing that deep inside they hate you just as much as they hate us. They're just using Hindus against Sikhs and Sikhs against Muslims.

  30. getting back to the actual OPs subject it is because Brahmins cannot stand any attempt to empower and free 'low caste/ no castes' from their mental and spiritual shackles look at the way they destroyed Indian Buddhism , destroying temples , killing buddhists so much that they had to up sticks and flee to china , tibet, ladakh and Leh . Shankarcharya was the equivalent of Indira Gandhi even getting his own hands dirty killing buddhists up close and personal . Similarly the bhagats were attacked and even Dhan Dhan Guru Arjan Dev ji was executed by joint forces of brahmins and mughals.... Our own fault in this is that we allowed outsiders tell us what we are rather than make our children and grandchildren aware of theri true roots ...so they also believe the spouted nonsense of anti-sikh elements .

  31. You are not what you identify as, just as I cant just identify as an Apache Attack Helicopter as my gender. There is a reason why the Guru himself put the definition of a "Sikh" in Gurbani, the Guru also excommunicated people and no longer declared them his Sikhs, so your argument comes from a point of ego and is not inline with Gurbani or History.
