  2. Your Christian "friend"''s multiple questions basically just boil down to this one question. The answer is simply that God desired to create the world (Maya) as his divine play, called "khel". Principal Sahib Singh, his his Darpan, quoted many lines from Gurbani that reference "khel": ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਖੇਲੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੰ੍ਰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਚ ਕਈ ਵਾਰੀ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ; ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੁਪਨੰਤਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਭੁ ਸਭੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਖੇਲੁ ਖਿਲਾਵੈਗੇ ॥ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਚਾਲਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੫॥੫॥ ਕਾਨੜਾ ਮ: ੪ ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਹੈ ਊਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇਕੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਖੇਲੁ ਕੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ॥੪॥ ਕਾਨੜੇ ਕੀ ਵਾਰ ਜੈਸੇ ਹਰਹਟ ਕੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਟਿੰਡ ਲਗਤ ਹੈ ॥ ਇਕ ਸਖਨੀ ਹੋਰ ਫੇਰ ਭਰੀਅਤ ਹੈ ॥ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਖੇਲੁ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਜਿਉ ਉਸ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥੮॥ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮ: ੧ ਆਪੇ ਭਾਂਤ ਬਣਾਏ ਬਹੁਰੰਗੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਖੇਲੁ ਕੀਆ ॥ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਨੋ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਦੀਆ ॥੧॥੬॥ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮ: ੩ ਪੀਤ ਬਸਨ ਕੁੰਦ-ਦਸਨ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸਹਿਤ ਕੰਠ ਮਾਲ ਮੁਕਟੁ ਸੀਸਿ ਮੋਰ ਪੰਖ ਚਾਰਿ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਬੇਵਜੀਰ ਬਡੇ ਧੀਰ ਧਰਮ ਅੰਗ ਅਲਖ ਅਗਮ ਖੇਲੁ ਕੀਆ ਆਪਣੈ ਉਛਾਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥੮॥ ਸਵਈਏ ਮਹਲੇ ਚੌਥੇ ਕੇ, ਗਯੰਦ ਕੀਆ ਖੇਲੁ ਬਡਮੇਲੁ ਤਮਾਸਾ ॥ ਵਾਹਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਭ ਰਚਨਾ ॥ ਤੂ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਗਗਨਿ ਪਯਾਲਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਤੇ ਮੀਠੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬਚਨਾ ॥੩॥੧੩॥੪੨॥ ਸਵਈਏ ਮਹਲੇ ਚੌਥੇ ਕੇ, ਗਯੰਦ ਸੋ, ਖੇਲੁ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਜਗਤ-ਰੂਪ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ In the end, he defines "khel" as the world drama. Note: In the pre-creation state, there was no sin, nor charity. From Sukhmani Sahib: ਜਬ ਅਕਾਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੇਤਾ ॥ When this world had not yet appeared in any form, ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਤਬ ਕਹ ਤੇ ਹੋਤਾ ॥ Who then committed sins and performed good deeds? ਜਬ ਧਾਰੀ ਆਪਨ ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ॥ When the Lord Himself was in Profound Samaadhi, ਤਬ ਬੈਰ ਬਿਰੋਧ ਕਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਮਾਤਿ ॥ Then against whom were hate and jealousy directed? There are many lines that could be quoted, but this sums things up nicely (21st astpadi of Sukhmani): ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ Shalok: ਸਰਗੁਨ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਆਪਿ ॥ He possesses all qualities; He transcends all qualities; He is the Formless Lord. He Himself is in Primal Samaadhi. ਆਪਨ ਕੀਆ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਜਾਪਿ ॥੧॥ Through His Creation, O Nanak, He meditates on Himself. ||1|| And so, the command for us, too, is to meditate on God. And that's how your "friend's" questions will be answered, if he's sincere.

  3. Looking to start a residential school with two goals - (i)Provide underprivileged kids with a childhood and education (ii) Teach these kids gurmat, sangeet and shastart vidya with a view to prepare future parcharaks - ones who will help entire humanity (not just sikhs) unlock the peace and joy that is forever within us. I have created a facebook group , please join (https://www.facebook.com/groups/402189280239697/)- Feel free to add your friends - please spread the word , also lets start idea pooling as to how make this work at scale - my vision is at least one or more schools in every city/town/village where we have sizable sikh population. Currently our dasbandh is being wasted on lavish langars and palatial gurdwaras, we need simplicity and altruism that gurus espoused

Yet you have the nerve to disrespect and do nindya of every single Samparda and Jatha that doesn't suit your narrow-minded cultish mindset. What was it you said? Oh yes..." They see a blue bana and a farla and the fan boys are going baba ji baba ji your are the best" How would you like it if I said: They see the name Khalsa Bhindrawale and the fan boys are going baba ji baba ji you are the best. Double standards isn't you gobshite.

  6. Again this is what we're fed. "islam means peace, islam is peace". I have never heard such bollocks in my life. There was nothing peaceful about their demented leaders life. I just read that article on SikhNet. I have no idea what drugs that man on twitter has been taking. He is a left-wing whackjob. As are the people commending him.

  7. Oh, wow, you are quite naive, brother. Blows my mind. Are you trying to say the Koran is wonderful, and it's only the stuff that's written outside of the Koran that's bad? If so, have you checked out the Koran? "to do" as in merely talking with them? So the mere fact of talking with someone means you think there's truth in their religion/philosophy/whatever? Among other things, this proposition of yours means that people could never talk to other people for fear of validating their thinking. Do you believe that a news reporter that does an interview with a vile person, say a Nazi, means that the National Socialism has truth?

  9. thats what makes sikhi so unique. There is nothing like it in the world. 1. All other religions like Christainity and Islam say if u dont follow their religion u go to hell. Sikhi says, if you don't do naam jap and good actions and waste time doing paps, you will go to hell and be reborn through 8.4 lakh joons 2. Sikhi accepts that people from other religions can meet God through naam. 3. In Sri Guru Granth Sahib, there is place for all religoins, budhism, Islam, Hindus because of bhagat bani. No other scripture from any religion is like that 4. Guru sahib actually wrote gurbani themselves. Bible was wrote 200 years after Jesus, and I think it was similar for Quaran. 5. Quaran and Bible have different versions and can change so much and have changed so much over time. Gurbani is perfect at all times, no need for changes. 6. Islam and christainity promise heaven and freedom hell for believers, Sikhi says there is sachkhand (completely different from heaven) for gursikhs. 7. Guru sahib gave sikhs everything. We have our own Kirtan which is unique ( no dharam has their scriptures written in raags), we have gatka, and our own identity, our own everything because of Guru Sahib 8. NO other religion really has langar except for sikhi 9. Women have most equality and respect in sikhi, even within gurbani 10. Everyone is born sikh, with scissors you can trim hair and become part of other religions, without scissors, everyone would be sikh (Qoute from Sant Jarnail Singh Ji) 11. No religions has as many shaheedis as brutal as in Sikhi. 12. Nothing can compare to Darbar Sahib. 13. No other religions really has miri or piri concept 14. We have our own 5 takhts for political power 15. Shashtars in Sikh 16. There is nothing like Amrit in other religions. Christians may have baptism, but they can do it over and over again. Amrit is one time thing. 17. No one can equal guru sahib and their sacrifices, i.e Abraham who started the line for Islam, Jews, Christains, did not kill his son when god asked him to sacrifice him in God's name. Then in sikhi we have Guru Gobind Singh ji maharaj who watched all sons give shaheedi and give jakaras at same time. 18. Guru Gobind Singh ji maharaj made us a part of themselves by giving us amrit, and giving us sikhi saroop to have with beards, dastars, rehat etc. 19. SO MUCH MORE I DONT HAVE TIME TO TELL ABOUT

  15. Good question. According to my undertanding, Sikhi/Gurbani's ultimate position on universal unified absolute reality/truth is ALIVE in its existence truth- mool mantar any kind of fragmentation of that truth afterwards such as topic of ego, mind, body discussed in gurbani is based on relative reality to further expand or explain or cater various seekers sitting at various state of mind. From absolute point of view-mool mantar, ego nor illusion doesn't exist as there is only ONE AND ONLY ONE IKONGKAR infused everywhere its one without a second. There is no other. So question of ego doesn't arise. Previous member bought up 21st asthpadi, which would be ultimate principle and truth.

Thanks for comments SANGH and Monatosingh, Our model is a bit different (its supposed to be very personal) - its like worldvision's one on one sponsorship where you write to the kid(s) you sponsor and talk to him/her over skype etc, so your money is not ending up in a pool with no traceability. I am personally financially independent so will ensure if the project does not succeed , it goes to some organization like SOPW .

  21. Depends on the individual state of mind for some its awakening-new way of being at some level due to amrit intensity, for some its bhagti bhav, for some doing more patt and mool mantar jaap, for some getting used to do amritvela doing 5 nitneems, 2 in the evening, for some its devotional singing-kirtan, for some its going to gurdwara every day more often, and seva. And those who also rush in to take amrit after listening to pumped up parcharaik (i'll use ranjit singh dhandrianwale divans in the past for example) also feel huge interest spike in daily nitneem, sikh way of being for few months then it kind of dies out as they have taken decision in haste or due to trend. Sikh and Khalsa way of being is life long journey towards knowning your real self- jot saroop and abiding in sehaj avastha. Reminds of baba budda ji bachan- Mukh Bhagti Hirde Gyan

  28. Yeah, that's a good way of putting it. I agree that it would be ludicrous to say that other religions (including Islam) have no truth whatsoever. On the other hand, Guru Granth Sahib is pure truth, or simply, God.

  29. Well, if that's how you want to define "Muslim" maybe I'll call myself a Muslim. But that's not how 99.99% of Muslims define Muslim. They define it as believing in the Koran, and the Hadith, too. Right, which is why the Muslims destroy churches, temples, and idols of Hindu gods, Buddha, and Jesus and Christian iconography when they conquer a territory. How's this a good thing? "Innocents" are defined as Muslims. Property is not to be harmed because they are going to take it over. Right, so they are demanding that Europe surrender to their demands, otherwise they will be hurt. The head of Turkey (Erdogan) actually warned that Europeans "will not walk safely on the streets" if they don't give in to his demands. That's not some ISIS nutso, that's the President of Turkey, a NATO ally! How you can say "they won't be hurt if they surrender" is a good thing is beyond my comprehension. Because, bro, the basis for this is contained right within the Koran: Quran (9:29) - "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued." You are referring to Bhai Mardana, who was a Muslim by birth. By keeping the company of Guru Nanak ji, Bhai Mardana effectively became a kafir (apostate). Simply singing is forbidden in Islam, singing what is purported to be divine revelation by a prophet coming after the Prophet Mohammed is definitely apostasy. Put it this way: If you want to say that Bhai Mardana was still a Muslim after worshipping according to the way taught by Guru Nanak, I want to ask if you think Guru Nanak ji was still a Hindu?

  30. Guru Angad Dev ji continues the theme on ego in the next Salok: ਮਹਲਾ ੨ ॥ This is the nature of ego, that people perform their actions in ego. This is the bondage of ego, that time and time again, they are reborn. Where does ego come from? How can it be removed? [Here, Guru Sahib asks the same question that your Christian friend was asking: Where does ego come from?] This ego exists by the Lord's Order; people wander according to their past actions. [The answer is simply that it's the Will of God. At some point or another your "friend" needs to accept the God has the right to make decisions in His creation, because ... He's God, and your friend isn't.] Ego is a chronic disease, but it contains its own cure as well. If the Lord grants His Grace, one acts according to the Teachings of the Guru's Shabad. [This is the main point: Regardless of where ego came from, our objective is to be free of it. And the way to do that is practice his commands. Note: ਸਬਦ ਕਮਾਉਣਾ can mean both 1) acting in accordance to God's command and 2) doing abhias of the Gurmanter.] Nanak says, listen, people: in this way, troubles depart. ||2||

  32. In addition to the suggestions by the other posters, you should buy a book on Punjabi grammar and work through it. You should also consume Punjabi-language media. Newspapers, books (starting out with illustrated children's books). You might want to buy children's Punjabi language instruction books (the same books they use for instruction in Punjab). It'll increase your vocabulary. You should also view Punjabi TV/movies. Different countries have different Punjabi channels available by various means (cable/dish). You can/should also view Punjabi-language Youtube vides. Prime Asia TV is very popular: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCztSIZEGBfWfC3Mq63QXnsA "Chajj da vichar" on that channel should help you with conversational-style Punjabi. If I were you, I would stay away from religious debates/ takedown-style videos. If at all you have the inclination to watch religious videos, I would stick to Maskin ji or Pinderpal Singh if I were you.

  42. Here is a pauri by Guru Nanak Dev ji which addresses some of these issues: ਪਉੜੀ ॥ The Immaculate Lord Himself, by Himself, created Himself. He Himself created the whole drama of all the world's play. He Himself formed the three gunas, the three qualities; He increased the attachment to Maya. By Guru's Grace, they are saved - those who love the Will of God. O Nanak, the True Lord is pervading everywhere; all are contained within the True Lord. ||1|| The shabad states that God created the creation and maya (illusion). The Guru grants Grace and saves those who love God's will. Those who love God's Will will be saved. Meanwhile, the likes of your "friend" will remain entangled in fruitless philosophical arguments. Note: I may quibble with the translation of the first line. Some scholars think that when Gurbani talks of God "creating Himself", it's referring to establishing himself in the Universe.
    1 point
  43. If your "friend" wants to know exactly "how" God created the creation, I would say that that's a totally worthless question. Why does he need to know "how" God created the world and infused with Maya (3 qualities and 5 vices)? Is he planning to create a universe anytime soon? About such philosophical exercises, Guru ji says: ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਲਖ ਹੋਹਿ ਤ ਇਕ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ Hundreds of thousands of clever thoughts, but not even one of them will go along with you in the end.

  44. Before anything else, you need to ascertain what this Christian's motive is. More than likely, it is that he is obsessed with "refuting" Sikhism so he can rest well that there's no threat to his Christianity. You need to know what the point of him asking these questions is. Westerners love to twist themselves into a knot with these types of (to them) philosophical questions, which is really going astray from the point of life. Knowledge doesn't arise from this sort of intellectual ****ing, but rather from abhias of the Guru's word. To shock your Christian "friend' out of his stupor, you should ask him, Is Jehovah (a Biblical word for God) eternal? Is Jehovah within all beings? If not, then why was Hitler bad? If He is within all beings, then why do you eat meat? If He is just in human beings, then why did you steal from Jehovah (when you--the British empire) stole the Sikh Kingdom from us? When did sin come into humans? Why did Jehovah create sin? Does Jehovah have a dirty mind? If so, Jehovah is dirty? If so, why should man worship Him? If Jehovah isn't dirty, then how did he come up with sin, which encompasses all sorts of dirty actions and thoughts? Also, did sin exist eternally with Jehovah? Does Jehovah lie? Why did he lie when he created the evolutionary/fossil/chronological record? (Some Christians believe the world is only 6000 years old and that God created a false fossil/geological record older than that in order to test our faith.) Was the world created in 6 days? If so, why did it take 6 days? Couldn't Jehovah have done it in one day, or even an instant? Was He using a old Apple iPhone, which Apple had deliberately slowed down, to plan the Creation? Or did he not take 6 days, but rather billions of years? If so, did Jehovah lie in the Bible? Or did Jehovah not lie, but the writers of the Bible did? If so, that means the Bible contains lies? If so, how can you trust anything about the Bible? What other things did Jehovah lie about? Chances are, your Christian "friend" will say something to the effect of "Well, what's the point of getting into these abstruse philosophical questions? I just believe in Jesus as my savior and Lord." At which point you can say, "Exactly."
