  3. It maybe that you are kneading it too hard. Try it with softer dough, as the moisture in it will make it puff. Also it’s best to puff it over a flame, normally moving the tawa a bit to the side then placing the roti over the flame slightly with tongs. Also don’t keep turning sides, as only cook one side, then the other slightly, then on flame. Or just on the tawa, but pressing it slightly when on the other side, but not too hard. (Medium temp) If the dough is too soft, then knead it bit harder. Some people put some oil in it. And as @MrDoaba paji has said, it’s all about the thorka. You get the thorka right, then you can make anything ?. ?????

  4. Apart from the PC there is also the fact that the west knows that Indians especially the ruling classes are very insecure and need endless amounts of flattery in order to get them to do the west's bidding. The west needs India to buy it's goods and services and to use India's cheap labour. In essence India is still a colony of the west as the west like the British rulers before 1947 use India as a supplier of raw materials (and labour) and then sell the value added goods and services to the Indian consumer. India's population at the moment is it's biggest advantage as the west needs India's consumers for its goods and services, But wait a few decades or even less than that when the impact of AI and robotics replace million of jobs around the world. Western countries are already considering things like universal basic income. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/oct/31/finland-universal-basic-income The west can afford such innovative ways of paying people to do nothing because their jobs have been replaced by robots and AI. What will happen to countries like India? When the west does not need it's cheap labour. When the millions of cybercoolies manning it's call centres become unemployed as AI replaces their jobs?

  6. If petitions did anything they would be 'banned'. Go ahead create a #, do some social media groups, share with friends etc..it won't do anything. Civil disobedience is the only thing that gets policy to change, hence why the authorities pander to certain communities that are known to kick off if they don't get what they want. If the Sikh community refused to pay it's tax until something was done, watch how quick juggi would be back in the UK . But our visible leaders with their MBE, obe's etc would rather suck up that rock the boat. Also realise that India has a lot of money invested in the UK (Tata etc, who own companies like Jag land rover and Tate and Lyle) so government won't rock the boat unless pushed to do so.

  7. When I decide to get married I'll put it in my matrimonial ad. Haha Just regular kheer but with haalon. Cress seeds I believe. You would have seen em in desi shop. https://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/acatalog/Halon-Seeds-Aserio-Seeds.html And yeah it's not easy to down that smoothie but asi swaad le nahi khaande si. Lolll. Used to hate it when I was a kid. Lehhh Baba Ramdev ain't got nothing on me! Cheers for the paneer video.

  8. Yes. Deleted paneer video, as some people may get offended, and then I’ll get told off ? . Good skill you’ve acquired there and you can make it to your requirements. Haalon da kheer ki a? I don’t think I could do all those ingredients in your smoothie. Oh ho, chavanprash, your a proper desi. Baba Ramdev dian v jarrian bootian khanda? ?

  9. What you mean from scratch? Good for health. I used to make a green smoothie with: Spinach Carrots Coriander Parsley Mint Watercress Apple Yoghurt Coconut Oil Lemon Juice Pinch of Salt Followed by a spoon of Chyawanprash with a bit of milk, jeera and taniya powder with warm water. And a capusle of Lycopene and Ashwagandha! Never felt better! You can get sick and tired of it. Pher try kar lai kisse din. Errmm I probably was in a past life lol. Nah I just like cooking. I learnt it all off my dear bibi and mummy. I find it fascinating, especially the health aspect. Try making haalon di kheer one day. Good for aches! Aquired taste though.

  11. I’m going to try making paneer again, haven’t done it in years, but that’s the best stuff you can do yourself if you got time. Not a kale fan, although the kale mix smoothies suppose to be good. Yep you can’t beat karhi, another simple to cook dish.

  12. Yeah they can taste a bit chemically sometimes. When I was on my health mission, I used to eat a spoon of raw jeera and taniya powder with warm water! I see what you mean about fresh taniya but the powder is used to add an earthy flavour and taaja is used for that fresh flavour. And we don't use ice cream dabaa, margarine de dabbe. Lolll Sorry I wasn't clear. The lightly frying and storing in the fridge wasn't for turka, just extra adkar for later. We use frozen for turka. Hmm lets have a cook off and see who wins! Haha it's a real word! Like unparh.

  13. People always get confused by this. Saag infact can be made out of various greens. If you look at recipes of "saag" in other parts of India, they use all sorts. Bibi used to make saag solely out of sprouts at one time! Practically beadbi lol. JKV is old, taste buds probably knackered.

  14. Same really. There's only one chilli sauce I use without it messing up my tidh, it's mild but has a nice kick. Yeah masala can overload the dish, taniya powder and jeera powder work well. My bibi used to make masala at home back in the day, never tried it myself. As for adkar, cut some up and lightly fry it. You can keep it in the fridge for a week or so, nice to sprinke some in daal etc. Golden brown is kacha! What's the point of even making turka lol! Like I said making turka is a skill which requires practice. And yes thank you, when it starts foaming!! I have tried an-turki daal, it's amazing. We normally make massaran di daal as the weekly standard but will try what you said.

  15. I can’t have chillies, but everybody else chillies in theirs. Masalas overload the dish, we put extra ginger instead. It’s not that bland, it’s actually very edible. Plus garlic gives it a kick too. But some in our community think golden brown is raarh ke lol. So end up with charcoal brown ?. When the oil starts forming in it, that’s when it’s ready. Have you ever tried daal without onions? Try yellow daal without thorka, it’s so much better. But mix it with moongi.

  16. tips for making palak saag paneer outstanding 1. cook the saag along side in a seperate patila needs only minimal time so use tardka cooking time to time it 2 . In another parallel pan add mustardseed to tardka or better still use mustard oil to enhance the sarson flavour . 3. after getting tardka to point of almost ready to add to saag i.e. tomatoes cooked down and the oil beading out add water about a cup and cook the paneer in the tardka until water evaporates . meanwhile add aalan to the saag , cook both then add the whole infused shebang to the saag . 4. add juice of one lemon to the saag paneer, stir and switch off . p.s. I never fry my paneer , some may consider this sacrilege but it saves so much additional calories and the sqeaky result

  17. In Punjabi cuisine how can you not really. Some dishes taste fine without (like some daal) but the rest would be bland as hell. You may as well boil your sabji and just blitz it lol! And hing is a brilliant addition to turka! You're spot on here. There's a fine line between perfect turka and a burnt one. The texture is hard to describe, it needs to almost be resinous, chewy, but not crispy. Some people add it it right add the end, however personally I think you should add it few mins before to let the flavours infuse. Have you ever tried to make pinni style sundh (ginger)? Bit like gingerbread crumble lol.

  18. people , the three safest oils for tharka since we use high temperature are : desi ghee (made from organic grassfed butter ), mustard oil, and coconut oil . NEVER use sunflower it is the most unstable and produces the most free radicals/toxins , Corn usually GMO in US , bad , canola/rapeseed oil are NOT healthy when heated , if someone offers you cottonseed basically take it they are out to poison you as cotton is the most chemical sprayed crop and the poisons accumulate in the seed oil. Soya oil is from a known allergen and is extremely inflammatory for the body . Olive , hemp, organic non GMO rapeseed ,grapeseed are all great cold-pressed and eaten raw on salads or in smoothies, veg juices but best antiinflammatory effects are fresh whole nuts and seeds. My Nani ji used to say butter makes people fat but ghee doesn't ... not sure what she based it on but she looked after four generations of people so I trust her advice .

This way you will look cool and trust me those idiots will back off. Get engaged when you find one. The panj will back off too.

  22. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa Vaheguru ji ki fateh, jiii Mhmm, when people burn the tarkha it isnt really good. You should check this site: http://www.gursevak.com/health ! See the "View of Gurbani on keeping good health". The Sarab Rog Ka Aukhad Naam sanstha people came to a gurdwara ji near my city, and the singh ji from there told us that desi ghyo is good for us.. Even online, during their samagam there was a person who talked in the mic and said they had heart problems and medicine didnt get rid of all the dukh, and so they were told about desi ghyo and they ate it with shakk thinking it might be bad but they said they started feeling better (he also started reading gurbani ji), and even his DR started asking him what he changed but he didnt tell him lol. But my mom said to me Indias weather is different, and so it might be better to consume it there rather in the cold western places. I too put one teaspoon of desi ghyo in my daal/sabji cup almost everytime now. Margarine, on the other hand is not acceptable. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh

  23. We do thorka to most sabjis/daals, but don’t use butter, but oil instead and don’t put in all the masalas, etc. Just keep it simple, jeera, ginger, salt n sometimes garlic, tomatoes, tumeric, that’s it. Add some chillies if you want. Yellow daal, don’t do thorka to it and it’s so much healthier and better since we stopped the thorka. Simple is how to keep the nutrients in too.

  25. Thats a very good website. I recently tried to make pinni from watching the youtube videos. Glad to say - it turned out good. I will defintely be using their recipes for more types of pinnis - the besan, atta and mung dhaal one. I thought mung dhaal one was very hard to make but was surprised that the ready made mung dhaal flour takes just about ten minutes to get roasted. It tastes so good and is healthy as well. Will definitely make mung dhaal halva as well, in the future.

  26. Why would it be? You have a chance to meet Waheguru. Just read Gurbani, people are born into hell and heaven constantly depending on their Karam. Human life is sacred and important as its the only life that we can have Amrit. Even Devtas want it.

  28. That in itself is stupid as hell. I know Gursikhs who do Simran for hours on end, their nitnem consists of about a dozen strict banis. By your logic they do more Naam Abyass than Naamdharis. The Naamdhari can do all the Naam they want, but at the end of the day their Baba will lead them to hell.

  29. Sant Harnam Singh Ji actually challenged one of the Naamdhaari Gurus to make Langar appear after stating that Guru Granth Sahib Ji would do the same as Adi Guru Darbar is Jagat Guru, The Naamdhari ran scared by giving some feeble excuses (allegedly).

  30. As the purity of the IRA movement declined the support for it declined as well. Also, since protestants and catholics have made peace under the Republics flag it makes it unsavory to talk about. I use the term IRA loosely, which isn't really the most accurate way to speak about the various forms of resistance, but it's the easiest way to get the idea across to people. My kin have a history of fighting against the British that goes back 700+ years, my family's involvement ended in about 1900, so we actually never were involved the IRA, but it's historical predecessors.

  32. That in itself is the stupidest thing I've ever seen or heard. Your Naamdhari friends need to really get their heads out of their pakhandi Babe's proverbial rear end. You can't be a muslim and a Sikh, do you want to know why? because you Muslims recite the Kalima which literally calls Guru Nanak Dev Ji false. Gurbani tells you where Muhammad went wrong and why his path is wrong. So tell me how both paths which say the other is false, how on earth its possible to be both. That alone has to be the peak of stupidity.

  33. Physically and mentally I would say the primary effects I've noticed are less anger, less fear, less depression, When I am on deployments it's sometimes hard to avoid meat, and when I've "relapsed" in those situations, each of those times was followed by a withdrawl-like symptom of irrational anger and frustration. I've also noticed that my body instantly maintains a healthier weight. That also is because I was saved from alcohol addiction by Vaeheguru Ji. After a head injury I was poisoning myself with the stuff to cope, and it reduced me to an unhealthy and depressed state. I sincerely believe it took the hand of something greater than myself to get clear of it, and again I had the example of the Khalsa to follow. Spiritually I feel healthier without meat as well. When I make food now, I think to myself nothing had to suffer and die for this, I didn't kill anything this time. When I eat it feels like when I would take communion as a child, that I was partaking in something spiritually fulfilling. When I eat this food I can feel that it is provided to me out of love by the creator, and I feel in better company. I was born in 1982, shortly before 1984. From my early childhood my mother would tell me two stories: One about Kitty Genovese being murdered in the middle of New York City and nobody coming to her aid. She would also tell me about the Khalsa and the attack on Harminder Sahib. She said that were I ever in a situation like that, I should do anything I could to help who needed it, like the Khalsa would, and to remember what happened to them and...I hate to say especially, but especially that if they ever needed help I would be better of dying with them than idly watching, that it would be a sin to watch something like that and not help. So I made a practice of looking out for people, which was typified by success. Mainly I'd verbally de-escelate things, and when attacked I always had what was needed. However one night while tending bar at a teahouse on the ground floor of a high rise downtown, a boy ran past the large window front. He was bleeding from all over, ear half hanging off, and four rather large, methed out, tattooed wanna be white gang bangers were chasing him with weapons. He collapsed on the front porch of the bar. Everyone in the bar told me not to go outside, but I told my female co-worker to call the police (knowing full well they'd be there a half hour or hour later) and put down the knife I was holding. I felt in that situation it would escalate things, and there was no room for it to get worse, In retrospect I should have taken it, or had a gun lol. When I got outside the young man was losing consciousness and his arm was visibly broken, it was already turning all sorts of wrong colors from where he'd been blocking their attacks. So I ran out and said "Hey guys, I don't know what this is about, but you've clearly won, he can't take anymore, it's over." This at first worked, they backed off for a moment and looked like they were going to leave, but then the biggest one thought he'd run back and try and stomp the guys unconscious head. I was pretty sure that would kill him, so I physically stepped in between them and repeated again "No, he's had enough"... and this is when things got trippy. It's the Internet so why not just say it like it is... I could see a fifth figure in the background, and all of a sudden it was like he and the other four were connected, by lines, like you see when constellations are drawn, and above them was this thing, that they all connected to, like it was driving them. I went to intercept this giant drugged out dude, I swung early, and he wound up bowling into me and latching on. I'm smart enough not to get caught in the middle usually (I've scrapped bullies my whole life, and spent ten years living as uchi deshi in Aikido Dojos in the USA and Japan) but I was stuck that time. This was the first time I'd stepped out of simple fighting and into something much worse. It didn't take long for his three friends to start lashing me open from behind with metal batons. I didn't feel the blows, they sounded like someone was banging on the walls of a metal shed I was in. I struggled briefly, then this peace took over me and I just stopped. I didn't lose consciousness or go down, I could just hear the batons wet pounding any my skull crunching. When I stopped fighting my point of view moved outside my body and I was looking down on the violence from above. My female co-worker, came out screaming at them like an irish banshee. I'm not sure if it was a combination of that and perhaps that head wounds bleed like no other and they couldn't stomach the sight of it anymore. Really I feel like I my life was spared by Vaheguru. Since you know...I'm smart, as they were leaving I spouted off some stuff like "Really, there's four of you guys and you have to hit me from behind with weapons?" They ran off, and left their car there. The cops came some ridiculous time after, hundreds of people, including six roided out security guards from the bar next door just stood there. The cops made me wait for an ambulance for an hour even though the hospital is four blocks from the bar and I could see it. They promised up and down they'd get the dudes, and they didn't. The security cameras didn't work, I had to pester a guy my family knows in internal affairs at the PD for months just for them to put a detective on it, and when he found and questioned them, they admit to the fight and said I had it coming cause I was talking S***. Which apparently where I'm from is enough for the cops to be like cool bro no charges then. To add insult to injury, the dudes frequented the biker bar across the street from my house, and were gang affiliated with the tattoo shop in my neighborhood... just my luck, and I'd call the PD and say the guys that attacked me are right across the street, and the cops wouldn't send anyone. So over time these guys realize they "know me", and they start threatening to shoot up my house (little did they know I was right behind the door, lights out, 30 30 in hand) and start following me around in their cars and pantomiming drive bys, or pantomime shanking me prison style. By this time, the hyper-vigilance and "ptsd" had set in. I was drinking heavily, foolishly, to medicate the physical and emotional pain. So I started carrying a .38 and going to all the worst bars I knew these dudes would frequent and I got the word out. I told all their associates that I had given the cops a chance to do their job and they hadn't and that I wasn't playing anymore and that I'd be seeing them for sure and that I had no mixed intentions about what I was going to do when I found them. Again Vaheguru interceded. Two of them went to prison, one wound up dead and one fled and I didn't have to murder anyone. The effects of the encounter lasted a long long time. Most people would just tell me I was stupid for even intervening in the first place. So I comforted myself initially with two things. One, knowing that if I hadn't done something I could have never felt alright about myself let alone looked that boy's mother in the face if he'd been murdered right in front of me. Two, that I wasn't a fool, that a shaheed or sant sipai would have done the same thing. It was at this time my interest in sikhi grew from respect to practice, and I turned to the naam for relief from my addiction, pain and depression. It wasn't until I re-read the police reports some time later, that I realized everyone reported four assailants and that I saw five, and of course nobody else saw the...thing above them. As far as I can tell that fifth guy wasn't even "there", the one that was in the background and never interacted physically. I guess to speak to our troll, yes study gutka, it's wonderful. Yes, chant the Naam, nothing is better. You really really might want to consider a firearm just in case though. If I had one with me that day, I'd have saved myself a lot of pain and drama, one way or the other. It's not every time you get spared, and even if you are, it's not without consequence. Since I already over-shared and popped the cork on weird talk, might as well share this too... When I started to find more comfort in Gurbani and the Naam, and my health started to improve, I had a dream that I was in a restaurant with my deceased grandfather. As is typical of dead people in my dreams, he smiled and his eyes sparkled but he wouldn't speak. I grabbed up wine from an empty table and began drinking it and telling him about my life struggles, and he'd smile and nod. There was a khalsa family eating at the a nearby table, and they said hello to my grandfather. The father figure of their family said to my grandfather "Watch this" and he said Sat Sri Akal, so I responded Sat Sri Akal, then he said "Waheguru" and I replied "Waheguru ji ga kalsa, Waheguru ji ga fateh" and he said to my granfather "See how well trained he is, why don't you let us have him?" My grandfather nodded and that was the lat time I saw him in my dreams that I remember. I can't count the number of times I'd have been done for spiritually or physically without the Kirpa of Maharaaj. I am truly a wretched fool many times over who is sustained I think by Kirpa alone. After all of this I joined the Air Force, thinking that I'd be more connected or enfranchised in my community. I didn't get any earthly justice and I thought maybe if I was more affiliated that I'd be better off, but that isn't true really. I've met some truly excellent people in the Air Force, but there is a really large contingent of people who don't live the Air Force core values at all, so it's kind of a let down in that regard, and it was another lesson not to look for solutions in people. I figured if I was going to associate with anyone might as well be select solid individuals only, and as far as groups go I don't really connect with them any more unless it's the Aikidoka in the Dojo or Sikhs in my community that I'm always happy to see. Well...ask me what time it is I guess I'll tell you how the watch was made. Hopefully that's interesting to read if nothing else.
