Usually most of us, just swim just on the surface, thus we get nothing, for the true gems and pearls are got by diving deep into the Bani, which means living our lives faithfully accordingly to the Bani. Now, the Bani has the answer to the question you asked me, which is, the following jewel from Sri Sukhmani Sahib: Prabh kay simran gyan dhyaan tat budh. Which means: His Simran, brings us Braham Gyan and Tat Gyan (highest level of Braham Gyan). We start to listen to GurBani and start to understand it from within. This motivates us to further adopt GurBani in our daily life. Our commitment and belief in Gurbani and Akal Purakh just keeps on enhancing. When we do the Jaap of the Gurmantar Wahiguru, our dirty minds gets rubbed and cleansed from all its impurities, then only we start seeing and appreciating the true worthiness and the real beauty of the Bani, till then we are are mere parrots, means, only good, at tongue. Bani is a living consciouss force of Supreme Truth, which we have to implant it in our minds and hearts, through bhakti, to get the full benefits from it, and not just at the mouth/tongue. Brother Jacfsing2, Thanks for your asking for clarification, anyhow in my opinon, I now see that maybe in my haste and though I had it in mind, I forgot to mention exactly that Sikhee by itself has no enimity towards not only hindus but any other religions. Sikhee stands by its very own strength, the power of our beloved Guru Sahiban, and not by belittleing other dharmas. For Sikhee is a path of love, of devotion, of truth, at a personal one to one level with Wahiguru Akal Purukh. If our face is towards the Sun, there is no darkness, no rivalary, no enemity, in summary no spiritual darkness, only His Light which permeates all beings in equal refulgence, irrespectively to what dharam they may belong. Is it not Wahiguru who has created each and everyone? Or is it Akal Purukh created us and Allah created muslims or Vishnu to hindus? Wahiguru Akal Purukh has Himself created all of them. Do we think anybody can go against His hukum? If others are born in other dharamas, what is their fault? Nobody is asked where, when, or in which dharam you want to be born. For not having choice, we do not even come with a particular name with us, so you see from a higher spiritual perspective how can anyone be blamed for their fate? One can choose to be a criminal or a pious person, or choose to be good than hurtful, for these things we can suggest somebody to stop being bad, but that also works relatively, because even our character is based on our past karam, against which nobody can go, and above all it is His kirpa on us paapee which can make us from a rusted piece of iron, into a diamond. After all who are we to change anybody else, when we ourselves are at full faults. Being born into Sikhee is a real blessing, which is the first step towards our spiritual uplift, but we need to be good human beings, otherwise no spiritual progress is ever possible, for He is an infinite immaculate Ocean of goodnesss, and if we pretend to merge in Him, we have to become spotless, thus arise above our personal differences and limitations, do His akhoot bhakti, only then can we unite ourselves with Him, becoming one with Him. Until then, we are very much entangled in me, mine, yours, theirs. There is a quotation from the Bani which I heard in a katha of Sant Maskeen Singh, where it says: dharam bhoomee ka jisko abhiman, so andhaa moorakh agyaan. So you see, as said in my post above, all conflicts, confrontations, wars, quarrels are work of the blind mind, very much in the deep well of haume, so it is the minds who lacks clarity of the Jot of Wahiguru, who sees variety which is koor, thus personal or colective differences of all types, and from there on, we put more chains of karam on us. And this is not Sikhee what teaches us, so Sikhee does not have any rivalary against any dharam. Sikhee is farther highest than anything and anyone. In the end it is the lack of clarity in peoples mind, which fills them with the poison of the 5 deadly chor, of which nobody can escape,unless one attaches oneself at His Lotus Feet, then one sees nothing but only His bhanaa at all levels, such is His apaar mahima. Guest saddened Hindu Jee, Sikhee is above all jaat, paat, genders or any race superiority. You see, all religious conflicts are created by the mind, and the poor fools, turn out into fanatics or fundamentalists, be them of any country or dharam; and it is very sad to say, that hardly any community is not infected with this disease of discrimination. In our Aartee, we listen some golden words of our Guru Sahiban : Sabh meh Jot, Jot hae soeee. This means, His Light permeates all beings. Now these words of Guru Jee, reveal the mental state of a highly evolved avastha being who has merged His consciousness in Him, thus, that being sees Him alone in everyone and every place. Our Guru Sahiban, only speak the Truth, about which they themselves have experienced within, and share with all the humanity without any limitations. The rest of us all mortals, we just keep ourselves limited within the four walls of haume, agyanta, koor and krodh, thus our spiritual blindness. No spirituality is gained by mere intelectualism, rather by putting into action the teachings of love and devotion to Him alone, in our case as Sikhs. I would advise you, to leave anybody who promotes hatred and discrimination, do not mind them, no matter if you stand alone in the whole world, because after all, each and everyone has to account for his/her karam, and there no friendship, no chat group, no leaders, no specific community, nor zaat paat is taken into consideration, but only one´s bhakti and love for the Supreme Truth, Wahiguru Akal Purukh. sikhism isn't real sikhi. sikhism is the religion which these haters follow, this definition was created by British during colonial times. the dharmik sikhs follow sikhi, sikh panth. same with real Hindus. firstly, real hindu term applies as a geographical term for hindustan/bharat/india - but still not a wide term used in ancient times. Gurus include stories of the ancients in bani, such as Grur, NarSingh avtar and bhagat PRahlad, Chandi, Sumbh and Nisumbh etc hinduism is again a colonial definition - you cannot package a whole ancient civilisation and it's traditions and cultures into 1 religion. In school they never did this for Ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians, so why for Bharat? it's not the dharmik people who are speaking filth and slander towards each other, it's the religious and ritualistic people of Kaljug - the same kind of ritualism that Guru Nanak stopped during on the Udasis.

In order to make it a habit, you dont have to force yourself up at 3.a.m. What time can you naturally wake up. For a start, try to connect with your nitnem at any time. If you can waake up at 4, 5 or 6 do that. Slowly bring thei time down by 15 minutes. This will give you time to connect with your nitnem - which means you will miss something, when you dont do it. Bringing the time forwards slowly give allow you to adjust your time gradually.

Try to get a good amount of sleep; if you want Amrit vela badly it could mean sleeping at 7 (if you're willing to do it)

It's all about habit, if you pertend like your awake, you'll feel more awake. If it's cold just start exercising warm, make yourself sweat.. These things work for me, I'm just putting in my 2 cents

Was just thinking. Most of Gurbani is not in punjabi. Most of it is in allied/sister languages. I am thinking this might have been deliberate in the sense that our Gurus were opening doors for people from different lands/cultures like other parts of Indian sub-continent and Middle East to adopt Sikhi more easily. So, for example, could Sikhi still flourish even if most of it's population in future spoke, say, Hindi or Urdu or Marathi as their first language, and they were not culturally Punjabi? Does anyone know the syllabus of Sikh schools in India, like Baru Sahib-run institutions? Do they teach sanskrit or Farsi or other Indian languages apart from Hindi and Punjabi? Please share your throughts

The main challenge is getting out of bed. If you can do that, it's a lot easier. Sticking your phone on the other side of the room so you have to get out of bed to turn it off. Someone i knew used to drink a pint of water before bed. When they woke up, they would be bursting for the loo so they had to get out . Once you develop a routine, it becomes a lot easier. It's much harder to initiate change than to maintain it.

Dear All, Be Careful At the Indian Airports This is a well organized conspiracy by Indian Immigration, Police, Customs and Air India staff with networking at all the Indian International Airports. Be watchful when ever you give your passport to Immigration/ Customs/Air India staff. The passport can be easily tampered and can create trouble to you. They have found easy way of making money from NRIs. This is the way it works: At the time of the passenger's departure, if the passenger is not looking at the officer while he is stamping the exit, the officer very cleverly tears away one of the page from the passport. When the passenger leaves the immigration counter, the case is reported on his computer terminal with full details. Now all over India they have got full details of the passenger with Red Flag flashing on the Passport number entered by the departure immigration officer. They have made their money by doing above. On arrival next time, he is interrogated. Subject to the passenger's period of stay abroad, his income and standing etc., the price to get rid of the problem is settled by the Police and Immigration people. If someone argues, his future is spoiled because there are always some innocent fellows who think the honesty is the basis of getting justice in India. Please advise every passenger to be careful at the airport. Whenever they hand over the passport to the counters of Air India, or immigration or the customs, they must be vigilant, should not remove eyes from the passport even if the officer in front tries to divert their attention. Also, please pass this information to all friends, media men and important politicians. Every month 20-30 cases are happening all over India to rob the NRIs the minute he lands. Similar case has happened with Aramco's Arifuddin. He was travelling with his family. They had six passports. They got the visa of America and decided to go via Hyderabad from Jeddah. They reached Hyderabad. Stayed about a month and left for the States. When they reached the States, the page of the American visa on his wife's passport was missing. At the time of departure from Hyderabad it was there, the whole family had to return to Hyderabad helplessly. On arrival at Bombay back, they were caught by the police and now it is over 2 months, they are running after the Police, Immigration officers and the Courts. On going in to details with him, he found out the following: One cannot imagine, neither can believe, that the Indian Immigration dept can play such a nasty game to harass the innocent passengers. All the passengers travelling to & fro India via Bombay and Hyderabad must be aware of this conspiracy. Every month 15 to 20 cases are taking place, at each mentioned airport, of holding the passengers in the crime of tearing away the passport pages. On interviewing some of them, none of them was aware of what had happened. They don't know why, when and who tore away the page from the middle of the passport. One can imagine the sufferings of such people at the hands of the immigration, police and the court procedures in India after that. The number of cases is increasing in the last 2-3 years. I had a bad experience with Air India last time I went to India. I found their customer service isn't good and they don't have the proper communication or facilities for their passengers requirements. It's put me off travelling with them. If one can, they should take photo copies of the passport page that has the residency status. I'm not sure taking them with you is a good idea, but have it electronically stored, e.g.: mail box.

Eat First Yesterday l went to a restaurant. l saw there was a WiFi service, so l asked for the password. The waitress told me eat first, so l placed my order. After eating l asked again for the password, and again, she told me eat first. Feeling frustrated, l ordered black coffee. After coffee, again l asked for the password. They told me eat first. Then angrily, l walked to the restaurant manager and asked for the password. He replied eat first !!! l was about to explode, when I finally saw a sign on the wall indicating "WiFi password...EAT FIRST". This shows that most of us are waiting for an answer from God after we have prayed, but we don't listen to what He is saying to us. Sometimes, the Lord is showing us an open door, but we keep asking for direction, instead of looking at the door He has opened. For one wake up to gurbani, it's too early to be listening to loud music lol.. Secondly daas personally uses Sleepyti.me (for finding a sleep schedule), then find a solid time that allows you to get in 6 solid sleep cycles, sleep at that time. Now this one is hard for many, make it permanent. Say you want to wake at 2am and the website says to sleep at 7:30pm, sleep and rise on those times every single day (weekend or weekday). As for pushing yourself to get out of bed, first and foremost get awake and do a jakara at the top of your lungs, if you live alone, if not go outside and run until you sweat (you can question my methods, but not my results; so trust me). Another thing cut out junk in your diet (try to eat clean, so you won't feel lethargic). Working out hard will also help. Some more tips -As soon as your done with your run (or jakara) make your bed; this will instill some discipline and give you a sense of accomplishment, plus you'll be less likely to jump in if you know that you just fixed it. -Before you go to sleep, don't use your phone for 1 hour -Throw your blanket or rajaee off and jump out of bed -Make getting out of bed fun, this one is up to you.. but daas starts busting out push-ups when I rise NOTE: even if you get late for one night, still wake up at 2 no matter what; also when I said make your bed I mean bedsheets and all, not just covers. These were just my tips you don't have to use them, but you are more then welcome to try it..

As for the religious aspects, I would like to start by asking you, do you consider Guru Nanak ji to be a Hindu? I know that many (most?) Hindus do. Also, do you consider Sikhs Hindus? Many (most?) Hindus do. That's not surprising, because the Constitution of India says Sikhs are Hindus. Now, given the Sikhs are, legally, Hindus, and Hindus consider Sikhs Hindus, if a bunch of Sikhs crack some jokes on Hindus, is there a problem? Basically, it's just Hindus cracking jokes on Hindus. Shouldn't be a problem, right? As for criticizing Hindus, I and almost every other member of this site criticize, make fun of, and decry Sikhs all the time on this site. The reason why Jews are successful is because they were pushed around for 2000 odd years and within that period, that community gradually learned to value education, climbing up the ranks whilst offering use to and political leverage. It would require learning how to pie an area, Assembling and disassembling rifles and handguns along with their anatomy and the science of it all, Learning how to move at any needed pace and adjust your aim and focus accordingly, surveilling or clearing any given area, etc. It's a lot. The power of forgiveness Forgiving others is not for their sake, it is for our own sake, for our mental health. Know that, you have the power to do it and just do it. Open your mind to the vastness of this universe. Wake up and see that seven billion people are on this planet, everyday many are being hurt, everyday many are dying. Exactly what I'm saying. Religion, at the end of the day, is dogma, and it needs to be followed, in order to live the life the religion has entailed. If one doesn't like it, then change your religion, simple. I think there are people who don't want to follow religion, and think that reaching God can be done without a set of dogmas, and that is absolutely fine imo, and I am not saying they are worse or better than anyone, but what I'm saying is that if you identify as Sikh, then you will have to follow the dogma. Otherwise, don't identify as Sikh. It's not like the Sanatan Dharma where can you practice anything and everything which sometimes is contradictory in nature and still be considered a part of the community. We have room for interpretation and openness to a certain extent, but we also have certain outlined rules to follow.

But our Gurus did ultimately define Sikhi and layed down a dogma for us in the GGS, one that needs to be followed, right? The principals are part of the Sikh dogma, and the dogma preserves the message. Now I could be looking at this from a very narrow-minded perspective, but I'm sorry brother, I'm unable to understand how upholding the dogmas will compromise the principals, when they're interdependent on each other. And yes you're right that Sikhi is sanji, however if you have some people bringing in their own inference to Sikhi, which clearly goes against its principles, such as casteism, and they identify as Sikhs, then I think we as a community must take action and correct those miscreant ways, otherwise those certain inidividuals aren't following the Sikh way of life, which itself is very clearly defined and fleshed out.

Let him, or anyone for that matter say whatever they wish about Sikhs. What truly matters is what we, as Sikhs, believe in. Do we truly believe that we are a sect of Hinduism, who uphold the caste system, do pointless rituals such as pilgrimages/fasts/idolatry, or do we believe none of that and follow only what's written in the GGS, and go about living life according to it? Because there are many so-called Sikhs that adhere to the caste system and conduct those mentioned pointless rituals, you can't help but see that our own people are agreeing indirectly through their actions to what Rajiv Malhotra is saying. However, if you are the latter type, then you should not be hazed by comments coming from such insignificant people and should stay firm in your way of life. I think it would be egotistical of us to assume that we know better than others, but in this instance, we aren't assuming that, we are instead seeing the result of lack of Sikh knowledge, in the form of deras and Sikh youth being absorbed by drugs. To assume that I am very knowledgeable, and that you are not so much, would be egotistical of me. To see that you are struggling with something of which I can offer assistance, is not egotistical, but being helpful and productive. Having pride in one's knowledge gained is hankar, using that knowledge to help others, is teaching. A parcharik is simply one that educates and clears doubts, like a teacher. And so if teaching the illiterate or unlearned is considered hankar, then how would any learning be ever achieved. And if the ones that are confused regarding Sikhi, assume that they know what's right, then is that not hankar either. By teaching from the GGS, the parchariks will simply be expelling doubts that the general population has regarding Sikhi, and it doesn't even have to be on the assumption that others are confused, but simply a routinely recital of the GGS and its colloquial meaning to serve as a reminder to Waheguru. Coming to your second point, I can agree that Jugraj Singh was not a parcharik that would be able to cater to all demographics, but do we really need a parcharik that can? If a certain parcharik caters to all demographics, will he/she not be spreading themselves out too thin, and how will they cater to the nuances of each demographic. Because interest is extremely important to hook the general population to parchariks, and if the interests of a certain group of people are not being catered to, then no connect will form between them and the parcharik. And lastly, I think it would be egotistical of any parcharik or person to think that they can emulate the knowledge, and caliber of the Gurus, and thus I don't think we'll be seeing such a parcharik as the one you described, ever. Sri Manglacharan Puran Ji is the real name of Sri Sarbloh Granth Sahib. In the scripture, the author Guru Gobind Singh Ji writes Himself the name of the Granth at the end and calls it Sri Manglacharan Puran.
