  1. I think we have become used to the heavily pro-Muslim bias in the media by now so a documentary on partition which is heavily skewed with pro-Muslim bias should not come as a huge surprise. The problem is that we have zero representation in the media and any we have are sell out left wing kumbaya singing nutcases like Anita Rani and the obnoxious Gurinder Chada. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't wheel out Meera Syal next! If there is any benefit to watching the 2nd documentary of Anita Rani is was to see the look of horror she had on her face when the TRUTH was told to her about what her grandfather's first wife went through and how his two children were massacred by the Muslims. She was probably looking for a feel good story of how the Muslims had helped the Sikhs and how the Sikhs had forced their own women to commit suicide. This would have been her ideal story and would have fitted in with the BBC narrative of good Muslims and bad Sikhs. Unfortunately for her she came across the truth of what happened in 1947. It was a far cry from her original documentary last year where she seemed horrified that her grandmother's first wife had committed suicide during partition. It does look like in the recent documentary she now has a better understanding of what made non-Muslim women commit suicide rather than be captured by Muslims. Apart from the inaccuracies and downright bias in Seven Days in Summer the programme started off with the derailing by Sikhs of one of the Pakistan 'specials' train thereby implying that the violence was started by the Sikhs. The fact is that communal riots had been going on since the end of 1946 in Punjab. The Sikhs had suffered genocidal massacres by Muslims in the rural areas of Rawalpindi in March 1947. By not relating the background of the partition and how the violence was started by the Muslims a year before partition it was being disingenuous. Would the BBC air a WW2 documentary and start by showing the bombing of Dresden by the RAF without referring to the Blitz of London by the Luftwaffe a few years before? One of the other drawbacks of this season of documentaries on partition was that the Sikh position was never discussed. Here was a community which had been nearly been wiped out by Muslim massacres in the 18th century which had then gone on to rule the Punjab and were now to be either placed under perpetual Muslim rule or to have their community split in two under two hostile regimes. Neither was the loss of the historic Gurdwaras as well as the millions of acres of the best agricultural land in India discussed.

  2. What you should when you are out there is to talk to many people who have moved there from UK rather than Punjab because their experiences are going to be far more relatable to you.

  3. I would suggest you go there for 2 weeks but go there not for holiday but as if you were living there. Do some research on cost of living, housing, work etc. You would get a better feel for the place.

  4. Gurinder Chada often claimed she would make a movie on duleep singh but never did this poor excuse for a Sikh woman went on to marry a non-sikh and produced movies/drama's that had nothing to do with showing sikhs in a good light but rather play up to the stereotype of the poor oppressed indian woman battling and rebel against the asian culture and community to the cheers and egging on of her racist white paymasters. Total coconut total sellout and total baqwas have no respect for that woman.

  8. Your right that 7 days documentary is heavily biased against Sikhs and painted our folks as extremists who started it all. When the fact of the matter is it was the hindu punjabis of hindu mahasahaba, arya samaj and RSS that went around kicking off with muslims all the time in the led up to events of 1947. The pakistani muslim league and Hindu mahasaba were the main ones responsible for starting the killings. The british reported cloak and dagger tactics were being used, basically people trying to pretend to be another religion in false flag attacks to get Sikhs framed and attacked and thus Sikhs would jump in and start attacking also. Alot of the nirankaris looked Sikh but were not Sikhs they are hindu punjabi, arya samajists also had infiltrated Sikh circles. Master tara singh was a hindu convert to Sikhism who was very friendly with fellow hindus nehru and gandhi and tried to inflame tensions against muslims before partition. Real Sikhs had alot of patience but you can only be patient and peaceful for so long after killings get too much and only then did later did our Sikhs under akali dal and various jatha groups aided by Sikh military generals and Sikh Maharajah's do revenge attacks on muslims to clear out east punjab of islam after their relatives were being wiped out in west punjab villages and Sikh dominated area's like sialkot, sargodha, rawalpindi, jhelum, mirpur, etc.

  9. It will also depend what area you're in too and the neighbourhood. I know two families that moved there. One came back after 12 yrs, they didn't adjust to it. And the other like it after 10yrs, so stayed put, but they set up a business there too, which is doing well. I stayed there for a few months also, I didn't like it, because of the community environment I was in, and negative relatives. But apart from that it is a lovely country, families tend to have bigger houses and loved the mountains and sea, open space. But, as another poster mentioned, one needs a car to get everywhere, so it's harder for elderly people or those with disabilities being so far from facilities and people.

  11. Vaheguru Ji... Don't worry, I wouldn't get married to a Canadian just to get a greencard. Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaaj's hukam to us is to earn an honest living and by this live honestly too, hence why I wouldn't do it for the sake of getting "pukka" in Canada. The work visa seems to be the stronger option. Thank you all. Akaal!

  13. You could be strong mentally, yet weak physically. See here about relative physical strength of women. It's true that the idea of continually reminding the man to protect seems problematic. One time isn't enough? At the same time, how is it the natural duty of a Singh to protect his sister if she can already take care of herself? Hmm. Yet Sikhs dispense with thalis. Could this be analogous to non-Christians exchanging gifts on Christmas while also not believing in Jesus, having a tree, or going to Church on Christmas?

  14. Story? Guru Sahib said that? Brother, if a woman could defend herself against a man in the same way that a man could defend himself against a man, why do women not compete in the Olympics in the same events as men? It's because, on average, they don't have the same strength, endurance, or explosive force as men. Forget on average, even the top women cannot beat men, even boys. Australia's national women's football team couldn't score a single point against 14 year olds, and lost 7 to 0. What if the Singhs back in the day had said to Hindu and other abducted girls, "Hey, equality. Save yourself." Note that the above does not mean that it logically follows that you have to wear a thread on your wrist. True. So, what about friendship bracelets and LiveStrong bands? Sexism is a reason to not do something? I think people (in the West) are increasingly waking up to the problems with feminism and feminism's definitions of equality. In fact only a maximum of 18% of people even are feminists in America. If the West is waking up to the problems of feminism, why do we have adopt it, and then later reject it 100 years after Westerners do so?

  15. You're absolutely right. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that he can travel to Canada with no visa whatsoever. Once he's visiting, he can hook up with an employer. The employer can put an ad in the paper, and if they get no suitable responses, they can truthfully state that no qualified Canadians are available. But you should not state that you are going to look for work. You should go on an actual vacation and see Canada. Only while you're there, you can also look and see if there are jobs. A second way which I had forgotten, is that one needs absolutely no job to go to work in Canada. If you are between 18 and 30, you can go on a "working vacation" in Canada, no job offer required! http://www.canadianimmigration.net/work/holiday-visa/ http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/index.asp?country=uk http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/eligibility.asp

  16. This is not a general discussion but specific, that's why it's "You" not "one". My suggestions are for OP's perusal as per the info provided above. If you read SantSipahi's post carefully, he has been & can travel to Canada being a British citizen. All he needs is to get an offer letter from sponsor to apply for Work permit. Employer needs to convince fed's that he's qualified & they can't find a Canadian to fill this vacancy. Canadian lawyer's dealing in immigration usually provide such services for a Fee. SANT SIPAHI, another option is to look for volunteer jobs for foreigners in Canada https://www.gooverseas.com/volunteer-abroad/canada

  17. Yes so because they do it, that means its right. Majority of Sikhs drink so lets all start doing that. Just open up and say it. As long as your dear old Hindu friends do it, you'll be happy to call it Sikhi. But god forbid if a Muslim or a Christian put his traditions forward, you would have a spaz attack and scream at how it's blasphemy. Guru Nanak Dev Ji refused to wear the thread, Any true Gursikh wouldn't wear it. No true Sikh ever did wear it. Bhai Chuapa Singh Ji's rehitnama forbids it, So does Bhai Daya Singh Ji's Rehitnama, Gurbani says again and again about how its futile. If you have any shred of respect for them then you'd hold the same opinion. Also why are you doing Prachar now, you said only Brahmgyanis should be allowed to do it as its too dangerous for the rest of us. Posting stuff here where people can see is Prachar, so I take it you think you're a brahmgyani now? Bro Rakhri is steeped in Hindumat. The whole story and premise rests in Vedic traditions and total blanket sexism, Guru Sahib said woman can protect themselves fine, why would they need a man to promise to do something he would do anyway. To answer your question to the best of my ability, medals aren't really religious in nature. The thread doesn't serve any purpose except to hold something in place. While with all these other kinds its for either A) protection B) some sort of amulet for power C) sexism or D) all of the above. We need to look at the context as well.

  18. While agreeing that the fasting and tombs and such are out of the question, including getting threads from babas and of course the janeu, would the same apply to non-religious gift threads like Rakhri? If so, are we also prohibited from wearing a medal, whose strap is made of thread? If not, why not? If we can't wear Rakhri, can we wear friendship bracelets? And LiveStrong bracelets?

  19. OK, bro, whatever you say. You may want to look into the requirements of the various provinces, except for the most populous provinces of BC and Ontario. They have much lesser requirements for immigration, because they want to fill up their provinces, where nobody lives. Quebec is a whole nother kettle of fish, which its own immigration requirements different from Anglophone Canada. Not sure how much French you know. Check here and here for province requirements. Each province has its own website which you will have to go through and determine your points. Good luck.

  20. If by "you" you mean "one", then one does not need a job offer letter merely to apply for a visa to move to Canada (which is what he said, not a work permit). It's just that having a job letter gets you a hundreds of points in the Express Entry point system. A letter from a province gets you even more points. But to get that letter, you usually have to ... have a job offer. There are other ways, too, but none that may apply to this brother: higher education, having studied in Canada, having $500K ready to invest in Canada. So yeah, for this brother, he would likely only make the points cutoff if he had a job lined up. For other people reading this thread, you could easily qualify without a job.

  24. That 'Seven Days in Summer: countdown to Partition' bakwaas programme was so inaccurate it was pathetic. They basically insinuated that muslims reacted in revenge to earlier sikh bombing of a muslim train frm delhi. Yet if these planks did an ounce of research, they would of atleast mentioned, that, jinnah in 1946' had started the war against kuffar sikhs. I find it annoying how, wen sikhs dont study partition n always fink we were slapped around by muslims. Fact is that had sikhs started violence earlier in 46, we would of taken even more of w.panjab, rather than get wat we did in the end. Havin only 15% population of panjab, and all sikh tribes/castes working together like bandits/fauj, we annihilated muslims in central/south/e.panjab, where the population ratio was 50/50, 55/45, 60/40 etc. When u look back on partition, the role of cowardly panjabi hindus, shud never be underestimated. The pr!cks, if they had any meat n 2 veg in their trousers would of joined in n helped sikhs to claim more land from muslims. But they jus sat back like hijras n took shitther. Whilst obviously we dont condone the disgraceful violence our grandparents/g.grandparents did on muslims, if u study partition, it feels like it had to be done. Cud u imagine amritsar ending up pakistan? It would have, since it was 51% majority muslim.

  25. yeah its worrying how heavily biased they are however If our pathetic weak cowardly left wing Sikhs of today are not willing to raise a fess like muslims and jews can you blame the bbc for not taking advantage by promoting islam/muslim issues and not other faiths or painting others in negative light? Modern Sikhs of today if they werent so brainwashed to be liberal lefty and more right wing like muslims and jews then we would not see this. We would see Sikhs protesting every act of anti-sikh incident or portrayal in the media.

  26. I read your post, you don't need to worry brother. When you are scared or in any trouble, go to Guru Granth Sahib ji and do ardas that hey waheguru I tried all my methods, i tried everything but all failed, I am very desperate now Please do help me, I need your blessings.....say this not in mind but verbally as you are saying this to Dasam Pita ji. I do this all the time and it worked for me. and i never had any experience as u have but if i am in any trouble anywhere anytime, I close my eyes, imagine myself sitting in the samgat, with folded hands and infront of me Dasam Pita ji sitting on a big chair, with kalgi and sword and I feel this----- and all my fear go away in seconds. the only main point is shardha trust, All of Guru jis bani is aimed to have firm trust in God. regarding what u said, that some spirits r so powerful that waheguru name can't stop them- this is again your own trust brother, there is nothing that waheguru can't do

A few moments of work which would make your atmosphere so much better all the time . I know it's hard to change but what helps/ed me was to think I was doing sewa of Guru ji who looks after me through my folks. 29. i am sorry children are not pawns, and need their own space to sleep at night so they can develop correctly mentally and physically. The problems stored for later, will be needing to climb in your bed when they are grown, unable to settle on their own , unable to travel easily, infantile temper tantrums at school age . What your in-laws need to realise is that it is not healthy or helpful to make a child so dependent on company all the time. Maybe your mother-in-law never had a girl so is overstepping into your role out of own fantasy life, maybe give her a specific role like teaching gurbani, gurmukhi or telling sakhian so she realises she is needed , and the night-time let little bhen ji sleep in her own space:then no competition issues because she is neither with you or MIL. You can have morning routine, night-time routine, bath-times, hubby needs time also so maybe he can do bed-time stories/kirtan sohila, and sporty stuff/rough and tumble on weekends. guestguest likewise a child needs to sleep alone even from you, just keep within earshot/eyeline . Men generally do not realise what is involved in overnight care as they DO NOT wake with the baby's cries unlike us , it is a physical adaptation that kicks in once you have a child and your MIL may not wake either. I am guessing your boy is not an infant any more so you maybe not as upset as before...but same thing , give her time to do something meaningful with little singh ji during the day and that might just diffuse the situation.

  31. I fully understand your situation. I have read somewhere that Sikh Saints have advised that when you experience a Bad Thought, think of Waheguru jee as it is GOD who has put this thought into your head. You may be reaping the fruit of what you have planted in this life or a previous life. These thought tell us that we need to do more Simrin and especially do more Sangat at the Gurudwara. Do not fight the thought, just say thank you to GOD and picture Waheguru in your head. I picture Guru Gobind Singh Jee Maharaj on his Horse with his Talwar up in the Air, giving me his support. It brings hope and confidence to fight these bad thoughts in this age of Kul Yug God already knows your intentions. Everything is a Gift from God, both good and bad thoughts. Do Ardas everyday to Wahaguru and ask for his assistance and compassion. One last important thing is to give yourself permission to do Seva, Simrin and attend Sadth Sangat even when having these Bad thought. Company o the Holy is the best place to wash the diseased mind. Thank You Wahahguru Jee ka Khalsa Wahahguru jee ki Fateh.

  32. Ok so for someone who has had his running battles with both Jagsaw and Daily - Jagsaw for being an Islamophilic dhimmi and Daily for his anti-Jat jihad, I should be loving the last few posts but what I see here is a pointless argument from which we will learn nothing and which just shows how entrenched some views have become among Sikhs.Guru Nanak has said in Gurbani Maas Maas kar Moorakh jhagray - fools argue over meat. The simple fact is that just like the general population some Sikhs eat meat and some are vegetarian. It's not up to me to say who is right and who is wrong. If you are Amritdhari then you need to follow what your Panj Piare told you about the rehat you have to follow. If your Panj Piare told you to refain from all meat then that is what you have to do and if they told you that Jhatka meat is allowed then you can eat Jhatka meat IF you want to. The worst thing you can do is to deride another Sikh who eats Jhatka or as a Jhatka eater a vegetarian Sikh for not eating Jhatka. As an Amritdhari how does the fact that another Amritdhari is eating or not eating Jhatka impacting on your life? This is the most important question you have to consider.

  37. Maybe in your eyes bro. i am going to type an exerpt fro a secret letter between 2 ministers at the time of partition, both british. It is from SE Abott to GEB Abell, dated 31.3.47. In this letter, Abott has written about the 3 communities in panjab, and what they are thinking. Here are three lines pertaining to each community: 1. The Muslims are still intent on Pakistan, which they are unable to explain or define... 2. The Sikhs want a state of their own. The latest plans are for it to include Jalandhar and Ambala division, Gurdaspur Dist, and part of Amritsar Dist. This state would not really be a Sikh state as it would still leave Sikhs as a minority. The SIkhs may regard this plan as a stage in the acheivement of their general design. 3. The hindus would accept anything sanctioned by Congress, and/or anything likely to annoy the Muslims. Now you can clearly see from this document that the Sikhs definitly had ideas about their own state, and had made progress in formulating a map of where this Sikh state was to be. The major stumbling block for the SIkhs was that our overall percentage of population was poor compared to muslims and hindus. But your claim that no state was offered by the british, or desired or claimed by the Sikhs is false. Quote"Alas, it was not meant for Khalsa to have a country given to them. Surely, one day we will have it. " Absolutely. The sooner the better.
