  1. Firstly, listening or reading Sukhmani Sahib's are key to bring shanti in your life; also, science has proven tunda ishnaan relieves depression as well as keeps us awake jee. Sukh meh bau Sangee bheh, dukh meh sang na koe In that pangthee, Guroo Tegh Bahadur jee explains how people are always with you during good times, drawn to the atmosphere around you, taking what they can, yet when it gets rough, they all leave you on your own. This pangthee can be used to teach so many different lessons; the first being don't get attached to anybody! So no relationships, boyfriends girlfriends etc; nowadays this is what stops most of us from progressing in our own Jeevans. Secondly, go to keertan Darbars, listen to katha, spend as much time with mahraaj as possible; however don't waste your time in mahraajs house talking in the langar hall, or listening to useless chatter. The less one talks, the better. Many Gurmukhs will never hang around a gurdwara, and leave if they're not in guroos Darbar, ideally we should all have this mentality as it naturally avoids getting roped into bad Sangath. Its natural to feel our lives are getting worse after taking Amrith or after doing more simran/seva/paath. It's all part of the test, the panj chor that live inside you don't want to see you progress in your Sikhi so they'll do literally anything to stop you, whether it's make you upset/depressed, give you back pains so you can't sit in chounkra, weaken your memory so it's more difficult to memorise baanee and so on. However these efforts to knock you down are nearly always short lived, so continue with the good deeds you're already doing and do even more if you can handle it, soon enough your mann realises that these good habits like simran at amrithvelaa and sukhmanee sahib every day are here to stay, and you begin to feel the positive energy that it has on you. Just withstand the test of time

  2. Of course, a Sikh female putting down another Sikh female. How attractive you are inside - out. 1. Sikhi is meant to build your character. To the point where you are able to make moral decisions aligned with Sikhi . Just because you aren't strong enough doesn't mean others are. Probably a misgiving in your upbringing. Are your parents educated? 2. On the lines of trash-use-abuse: I find it amusing since you do sound bitter. Experience speaks? Probably so in your case 3. I know Gursikhs who have found suitable partners on matrimonial sites. Lucky for them they weren't taking advice from someone with a low IQ like yourself. Have a good day and stop abusing other females. No one needs to see such crass behaviour.

  3. Sister, you have stteped quite down by followig the dictates of your mind, so naturally people will take advantage of you, people are merciless. I am not condemning you, just making you aware, that when one is young and growing up, one should trust our true guardians, our parents, and not hide anything from them. If one is under their shelter, no power can harm us, the Lord works gracefully through them. Talk to them looking at their face directly, with love and express your helplesness, they will surely help you to come out, but then follow implicitly whatever their advice is given to you, and along with that do Ardaas to pyaare bakshanhaar Waheguru, to help you come out. You see our destiny is not created by the shoes we wear, but by the steps we take ... so keeping this premise in mind, that your actual condition is by your wrong steps, you can all the same, reverse this present situation of yours, by taking the right steps, which is follow the advice in case of doubts of what is good or bad, of the virtous ones. God bless you. Sat Sree Akal.

  5. I'm leaving aside the question of whether Panthpreet Singh deserves this, focusing on what will enhance traditional parchar, or what will lead the sangat away from traditional parchar. And my interactions with average Sikhs lead me to believe that they will interpret beatings of Panthpreet Singh and his friends to mean that we have no answers to his positions.

  6. I think there are positives and negatives from this new UK Sikh party being created and this guy jagmeet singh standing for election. Yes most non-sikhs wont vote for him and probably not many Sikhs either and Yes it will split the sikh votes for the various candidates in the place he is contesting but also it will start to awake the political Sikh conscience to campaign for Sikh rights rather than suffering in silence at the hands of the corrupt despotic British establishment who actively engaged in the overt and covert genocide of many nations and peoples across the world aswell as Indian subcontinent Sikhs in 1846, 1919, 1947 and along with the indian puppet government in 1984. I feel jagmeet personally is a bit of loose cannon but if he can be groomed to think before he speaks and be trained to be a better political candidate then he may actually get somewhere. This party can be a blessing in disguise to help Sikhs organise politically under 1 banner to fight for british Sikh interests because every other community is fighting for their own interests particularly the abrahmic groups and as we should know the hindu community is always pro-india government so they are safe and secure in their future with 1 billion population and a nuclear armed Indian army. The jews are secure they got nuclear armed israel and have huge bankster montery and political agenda influence. The islamics have huge economic oil producing power houses of iran and saudi funding their various geo-political agenda's around the world with 1.5 billion muslim population funding illegal wars, state terrorism and conflicts around the world. The west's atheists and Christians with their catholic church 3 billion population and number of politicians ideologically aligned to the vatican bank is hugely influential in starting and funding illegal wars, state terrorism and conflicts around the world. Sikhs are far behind and lacking political power and sooner or later Sikh collective conscience will realise that in order to survive in the world political power and proper representation is a must.

  7. I have no interest in protecting the guy, i'm not a fan of people trying to take the law into their own hand's that's all, you've asked for the address of someone who's facing criminal charges and is going through the legal system, we don't live in a mob rule society, anybody who has the smallest amount of sense will have question's for people who commit heinous crimes like this (including me) but what on earth are you going to ask him, Why he did it? Yes he is answerable, but not to us, but to Waheguru, we are just mere servants, to me he's no more a Sikh than Hitler was a humanitarian.

  8. This isnt the first time there's been a few Indians (both hindu and sikh names) who have been involved in this kinda stuff here and there but thankfully its very few in number and the vast majority are committed by muslim predatory street grooming gangs who deliberately targeted non-muslim girls mostly white girls. Although the vast majority of UK child sex crimes is done by white males if you go by the stats. End of the day these scumbags you listed above deserved to be named and shamed not just for child sex crimes but also the fact they are involved in drugs. Here we are talking about punjab's youth drowning in drug abuse and we have these scumbags who allegedly are from our community in the west peddling drugs themselves.

  9. Myself, as the only Sikh in the whole school district, I keep my appearance as it is no matter what. If you trim your beard you are putting yourself further way from Guru ji even if your Sikhi at heart you won't be seen as one because you shave for your own personal benefit whether it be to attract girls or to fit in society. Public's opinion should not matter as Guru Gobind Singh Ji said. Be proud of your heritage and trust me hair is very essential to our Sikhi identity. If you are SIkhi at heart you would respect Bhai Taru Singh's martydom of getting his scalp cut instead of his hair. Even though he wasn't threatened to have his beard trimmed, but you see the symbol of hair being sacred to him. There's many more examples.....

  11. On Vasakhi 1699 after the first two Khalsay had stood up ... Guru Gobind Singh Ji (the sixth Khalsa) gave three more calls. Mohkam Chand, a Gujarati calico printer/tailor from DwarkaNagar, Himmat Rai, a water-bearer from Jagannath Puri in Orissa, and Sahib Shah, a barber from Bidar (south India), stood up one after another and advanced to offer their heads. ... a minority of the wider Punjabi community is Sikh ... most Punjabi's are Muslims and there are more Hindi speaking "Punjabi's" in the historic parts of pre-1966 Punjab. So we as Sikhs need to fight back against this nonsense portraying Sikhs as the equivalent of Punjabi's as they seek to limit the truth to a small part of Punjab only. Even the Muslim Jatts that killed 300,000 Sikhs in 1947 and the Hindu Jatts like Sajjan Kumar laugh at the ridiculousness of some Sikhs associating an ancestry with their name as a mark of pride given the fact that even the vast majority of Jatts are Muslim and Hindu ... So again we as Sikhs need to fight against our Panth being associated with any particular ancestry backgrounds (because that's exactly what our enemies want) So let's be clear anybody in 2012 who proclaims their ancestry background from the rooftops is not a Sikh and Punjabiyat has no relavance to Sikhi. Anybody into Bhangra please tell your favourite artists that you will not buy their records if they continue to promote alcohol + caste on behalf of a Muslim record label like Moviebox. Sikhi is falsely portrayed by the Panth's enemies and for the record let me state that i think a billion or so Hindu's are generally good people (the 800 million or so Hindu's who live in poverty I consider as Sikh in my eyes anyway ... before someone misinterprets my stab at the Panth's enemies)

  12. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Sangat Jiyo I feel kind of bad but also relieved at the same time about this issue. Basically what happened is today I had a lot of time to do paath. I usually japjee sahib in the morning which I did and rehras sahib, sukhmani sahib, jap sahib, lakh kushian patshahian as well as some nitnem. I don't know when exactly rehras sahib is to be completed but what I've heard is that rehras sahib is supposed to be completed in the evening time. I read somewhere on the internet that evening time is 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. so that's what I consider evening. Anyways I had to go shopping today after watching t.v. for a couple hours and while shopping I got a headache. I don't know what time I got a headache exactly but it was a bead headache. They're quite common for me actually. Anyways by the time I had recovered from the headache it 8:40 p.m. close to 9 p.m. I ate Roti and was going to prepare to start my paath but then I had to go to the bathroom number two to be exact. My mom tells me that if you're going to do paath and you've gone number two you're supposed to shower before doing paath so that's what I've been doing. After taking a shower it was almost 9:30. I started my rehras sahib and I finished at almost 10:30. It's currently 10:29 p.m. as I write this. Sangat Jiyo I'm concerned that sache pasha Ji might be angry or upset that I didn't complete my bani in time /: I don't wanna be on sache pasha Jo's bad side. I do paath for a reason... I didn't start my paath later than usual on purpose or to make sache pasha Ji mad or upset. I would never do that I know better. My question is Sangat Jiyo should I be worried about not completing my bani in time? All responses are appreciated. I apologize for the long question. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji ki fateh.

  13. Guest Guest Jee, Sachay Patshah is an infinite Ocean of mercy and love, He can never ever be angry with anybody, no matter how bad we may be. It is we who condem or reward ourselves, according to our own karam. He is sadah-bakshanhaar. You see, to get angry or upset, are expressions of the mind, and He is mindless, Paarbrahm Wahiguru Akal Purukh. Let us go throughly the Bani and understand what Guru Jee is all about and His true loving nature. He watches with attention each and every step of ours towards Him, and that is more than enough for Him, to shower us with His akhoot Daya Meher. God bless you . Sat Sree Akal.

  14. You need professional help. Go to your doctor. Nobody's helped me on here as I'm going through the same, they say to share your dukh and when I did, he ignored me and given me silent treatment as if I should feel guilty for going through a bad time. I'm advising you to get professional help when you have nobody. Because the same people advising you on here, turn their back on somebody needs the help when they ask for it. Waheguru will help you, just keep faith and mera vi bhalla kare, because they are the only one you have, dunia is matlab di, especially people you think are respectable on here, but then push you further to negativity. Certain ones are helpful on the main, but in pms they just cut you off for no reason. Hope they can see what they did, and be ashamed of themselves when I need the help too, but use people for likes only.

  15. Brother all Banis in Gurbani, point us to the only one Bani, and that is His Saacha Nao. All the Banis mentioned by BhForce above, should be read with utter love and devotion, and by payingcarefull attention to each shabad in them, to understand the purpose of Guru Sahiban for us jeevas, because, then only our mind can become pure enough, for the following step in our Bhakti, which is His simran. That is why, Gurbani tells us : Prabh ka Simran, Har gun Bani. Sat Sree Akal.

  18. I've read that article and I can also advise in addition that you shouldn't get too heavy with using herbs that lower testosterone. Lower testosterone levels will cause most of your muscle to turn into flab, your mid section will develop a tire, you will get man boobs, loss of hair, and many other effects. Trick is to gain power over your own mind. When kami thoughts come, you should just let them pass and move on. Always have something else to focus on. I used to physically look at my hands and say "waheyguru" about 21 times using my fingers on both hands to count. It's as if the 5 chor stand there around you and keep throwing these temptations at you. But when they hear the waheguru japna being counted, they don't like it and they soon bugger off.

  19. 7 Little truths 1st Donā€™t let someone become a priority in your life, when you are just an option in their life. Relationships work best when they are balancedā€¦ 2nd Never explain yourself to anyone. Because the person who likes you doesnā€™t need it and the person who doesnā€™t like you wonā€™t believe itā€¦ 3rd When you keep saying you are busy, then you are never free. When you keep saying you have no time, then you will never have time. When you keep saying that you will do it tomorrow, then your tomorrow will never comeā€¦ 4th When we wake up in the morning, we have two simple choices. Go back to sleep and dream, or wake up and chase those dreams. Choice is yoursā€¦ 5th We make them cry who care for us. We cry for those who never care for us. And we care for those who will never cry for us. This is the truth of life, itā€™s strange but true. Once you realize this, itā€™s never too late to changeā€¦ 6th Donā€™t make promises when you are in joy. Donā€™t reply when you are sad. Donā€™t take decision when you are angry. There is darkness in the whole creation, and we all fear darkness, so if we do not lit the Light of Gurbani within us, of course, we shall remain in the state of fear. 23. The Abundance Principle Once a man got lost in a desert. The water in his flask had run out two days ago, and he was on his last legs. He knew that if he didn't get some water soon, he would surely die. The man saw a small hut ahead of him. He thought it would be a mirage or maybe a hallucination, but having no other option, he moved toward it. As he got closer, he realized it was quite real. So he dragged his tired body to the door with the last of his strength. The hut was not occupied and seemed like it had been abandoned for quite some time. The man entered into it, hoping against hope that he might find water inside. His heart skipped a beat when he saw what was in the hut - a water hand pump...... It had a pipe going down through the floor, perhaps tapping a source of water deep under-ground. He began working the hand pump, but no water came out. He kept at it and still nothing happened. Finally he gave up from exhaustion and frustration. He threw up his hands in despair. It looked as if he was going to die after all. Then the man noticed a bottle in one corner of the hut. It was filled with water and corked up to prevent evaporation. He uncorked the bottle and was about to gulp down the sweet life-giving water, when he noticed a piece of paper attached to it. Handwriting on the paper read : "Use this water to start the pump. Don't forget to fill the bottle when you're done." He had a dilemma. He could follow the instruction and pour the water into the pump, or he could ignore it and just drink the water. What to do? If he let the water go into the pump, what assurance did he have that it would work? What if the pump malfunctioned? What if the pipe had a leak? What if the underground reservoir had long dried up? But then... maybe the instruction was correct. Should he risk it? If it turned out to be false, he would be throwing away the last water he would ever see. Hands trembling, he poured the water into the pump. Then he closed his eyes, said a prayer, and started working the pump. He heard a gurgling sound, and then water came gushing out, more than he could possibly use. He luxuriated in the cool and refreshing stream. He was going to live! After drinking his fill and feeling much better, he looked around the hut. He found a pencil and a map of the region. The map showed that he was still far away from civilization, but at least now he knew where he was and which direction to go. He filled his flask for the journey ahead. He also filled the bottle and put the cork back in. Before leaving the hut, he added his own writing below the instruction: "Believe me, it works!" This story is all about life. It teaches us that We must GIVE before We can RECEIVE Abundantly. More importantly, it also teaches that FAITH plays an important role in GIVING. The man did not know if his action would be rewarded, but he proceeded regardless. Without knowing what to expect, he made a Leap of Faith. Water in this story represents the Good things in Life Give life some Water to Work with, and it will RETURN far more than you put in........!!!

  24. AMOR FATI - Learn To Love Your Fate....... Amor fati is a Latin phrase that may be translated as "love of fate" or "love of one's fate". It is used to describe an attitude in which one sees everything that happens, including suffering and loss as, necessary. Whether one likes them or not, it is accepted with zen like serenity. Thomas Edison was at home eating dinner. A man burst into his home, interrupting him. He had bad news. His research facility was on fire. Now how would you imagine Edison to react? Do you imagine Edison panicking or do you hear him screaming out ā€œWhy me?ā€ or is he deeply distraught or do you see him in deep agony? None of these happened. Edison requested his son to go and get his mother. It seems, Edison excitedly told his son, ā€œSheā€™ll never see a fire like this again.ā€ Naturally, Edisonā€™s son thought his father had lost his mind, and rightfully so. All of Edisonā€™s experiments, things that could never be replicated, were inside his laboratory, burning to the ground. ā€œDonā€™t worry. Itā€™s all right,ā€ Edison said calmly, ā€œAll my mistakes and a lot of unnecessary rubbish have just got burnt.ā€ In this, Edison revealed the true nature of Amor Fati ā€“ choosing to love your fate, no matter what. Not only was he ā€œNOT broken-heartedā€, he was revitalised. Despite losing over $1 million at the age of 67 in that fire, he persevered and made over $10 million thereafter. WOW! I am in love with the concept of Amor Fati. Why? Because, the power that we have in life by accepting our fate is so immense that you feel nothing is impossible for you. You believe that everything has a purpose, and that it is up to you to make this purpose something positive and active. Maybe you lost your job. Maybe someone cheated you of your entire lifeā€™s earnings. Maybe, your trust was broken with impunity. Maybe, the person you love the most, is facing a life threatening disease. Maybe, someone ill treated you. The challenge of your life may be considerable and inescapable. And yet youā€™re given the choice to greet it with a smile. And then, act..Thatā€™sAMOR FATI. The goal of this article is not to make you feel ā€œokayā€ or even ā€œgoodā€ when terrible things happen. Itā€™s to make you feel GREAT irrespective of what happens. If it happened, then it was meant to happen. You are meant to make the best of it. It is unnatural, I know, to feel calmness when faced with calamities. But see it this way. It is fuel for you to push harder when you felt lost. It is fuel for you to work harder when you want to quit. It is fuel for you to think big when nothing was going right. It is fuel for you to smile when all you want to do is frown. Amor Fati, my dearest friends. *********************************************************************************************************** Having a sharp memory is a good quality of the brain. But the ability to forget the unwanted things, is a far better quality of the Heart .... !

  25. Dear Pen Jee, very sorry to listen about your unpleasant present situation. Anyhow, please remove the idea of suiciding, that beast of your "husband", just does not deserve your kindness and any feelings. this type of people should be treated, as beasts, means whipping them, to make them drink their own medicine ... Secondly, do not take Amrit as something small or unimportant. It is not like having a guarantee card, that by having it, we shall not have to face our past karam. No. That is not the right attitude. Taking Amrit, is an expression of unconditional love for Wahiguru Akal Purukh. It is to make us consciouss to love Him under all circumstances. To love Him, is also to stay like a faithful kookar, at His darbar, for if we leave His door, there is no anchor for our souls to rest. Yamraj and his doots, are eagerly waiting as criminals to loot us, to pull and drag us to the wheel of 84, so sister, never ever even think of leaving His door. Live with dignity in His bhaana in whatever place your destiny takes you, He is Dayalu, and He will surely shower His daya meher on you. Pen Jee, God bless you. Sat Sree Akal.

  26. An atheist versus a believer in God. An atheist was seated next to a young girl on an airplane, and turned to her and said: Do you want to talk? Flights go faster if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passanger. The little girl who had just started to read her book, replied to the total stranger... What would you like to talk about? Oh I do not know. How about why there is no God ... or no heaven or hell or no life after death? as he smiled smugly. Okay, those could be nice topics, but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow and a deer, eat all the same stuff - grass. Yet the deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose is that so? The atheist visibly surprised by the little girlĀ“s intelligence ... Thinks about it a bit, and says, hmmm, I have no idea. To which the little girl replies, do you really feel qualified to discuss about God, heaven, hell, and life after death, when you do not even know about excrements ?

  27. The tale of goat No 3 It all started one lazy Sunday afternoon in a small town near Toronto in Canada. Two school-going friends had a crazy idea. They rounded up three goats from the neighborhood and painted the numbers 1, 2 and 4 on their sides. That night they let the goats loose inside their school building. The next morning, when the authorities entered the school, they could smell something was wrong. They soon saw goat droppings on the stairs and near the entrance and realized that some goats had entered the building. A search was immediately launched and very soon, the three goats were found. But the authorities were worried, where was goat No. 3? They spent the rest of the day looking for goat No.3. The school declared classes off for the students for the rest of the day. The teachers, helpers, guards, canteen staffs, boys were all busy looking for the goat No. 3, which, of course, was never found. Simply because ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ it did not exist. Those among us who, in spite of having a good life are always feeling a ā€œlack of fulfillmentā€ are actually looking for the elusive, missing, non-existent goat No.3. Whatever the area of complaint or dissatisfaction, relationship, job-satisfaction, finance, achievements, ā€¦ā€¦ An absence of something is always larger than the presence of many other things. Letā€™s Stop worrying about goat No.3 and enjoy life !!!

  28. "Our Journey Together is so Short" A young lady sat in a bus. At the next stop a loud and grumpy old lady came and sat by her. She squeezed into the seat and bumped her with her numerous bags. The person sitting on the other side of the young lady got upset, asked her why she did not speak up and say something. The young lady responded with a smile: "It is not necessary to be rude or argue over something so insignificant, the journey together is so short. I get off at the next stop. This response deserves to be written in golden letters: "It is not necessary to argue over something so insignificant, our journey together is so short" If each one of us realized that our time here is so short; that to darken it with quarrels, futile arguments, not forgiving others, discontentment and a fault finding attitude would be a waste of time and energy. Did someone break your heart? Be calm, the journey is so short. Did someone betray, bully, cheat or humiliate you? Be calm, forgive, the journey is so short. Whatever troubles anyone brings us, let us remember that our journey together is so short. No one knows the duration of this journey. No one knows when their stop will come. Our journey together is so short. Let us cherish friends and family. Let us be respectful, kind and forgiving to each other. Let us be filled with gratitude and gladness. If I have ever hurt you, I ask for your forgiveness. If you have ever hurt me, you already have my forgiveness. After all, Our Journey Together is so Short! P.S: If u understand these lines, u can change a lot in life. "Do not get upset with people or situations. Both are powerless without our reaction..."

  31. Brother, I would never blame Guru Sahiban for not blessing with a strong Amrit Vela as you say. You see, apart from akhoot Daya Meher and Pyaar, there is nothing which Guru Jee has more. Why will He not want us to get up at Amerit Vela and do our paath, bhajan bandagee, or whatever one does regularly as per bhakti. The fault is within us. Who obliges us to stay at such late or so many hours on the internet or maya? Of course nobody. If ever anyone or anything, then surely it is our mind, the agent of Kal within us. We all know, what we should do or not, but our will power is weak. It is all about how important we see the world and its pull on us, or, be a true sikh and keep Guru JeeĀ“s Hukum above everything. This means, first Wahiguru, then if any time left, live in the world, but not to go that much deep in it, that Wahiguru becomes secondary. He is so Dayalu, that each and every day, He gives us new chances to improve and become better sikhs, but we neglect them, then blame Him. I think it is due to exercise but also the change in diet, in the last 20/30 years food production has changed a lot, my point being that it's not just portion size but also how the ingredients are grown, i'm glad some Gurdwara's are going organic (Amritsar included) but we have a long way to go yet. I've tried the "kinka parshad" route but it's down to the sevadar on duty, i don't like not having parshad every time i go but it's down to health issues now and how certain ingredients react with my body but that's a personal choice i've been forced to make.

  33. Need to do more then name & shame.... when the opportunity arises REAL singhs & sikhs of mahraj need to get their hands on these 2 & give them a beating so severe they never dare even raise their eyes infront of a woman ever again.... beat them so severely that anyone who even considers doing such lowly acts in the future thinks twice before doing so.

  34. The full video is up on youtube. Irrelevant of whether you agree or disagree it's always worth listening to an "outsiders" experience of Sikhi and what draw's them to it and also, what brings people back into Sikhi.

  36. UK = 100% agree with you Shaastar Bir'ay. Both sides of the debate have total reverence for Dhan Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj so that should stop all hatred and division right there. Let us all just agree to disagree respectfully on matters of academic debate and focus our united efforts towards ending illiteracy, female infanticide, drugs, alcohol, cancer and poverty in Punjab as a start of Panth ki Jeeth.

  37. UK = Paji why not Gurbachan Singh Khalsa (Thailand wale) complete his program before pre-judging it? Do such pro-Gurmat views that Sikhs should only bow before Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj justify Sikh on Sikh violence as was launched by the opponents of Sarbjit Singh Khalsa (Dhunda) last year when the majority of the Sangat present inside agreed with Dhunda Sahib. We don't need this hysteria within the Panth when we should instead unitedly focus on getting over a million signatures for www.1984yesitsgenocide.org as Gurbachan Singh Khalsa (Thailand wale) will no doubt highlight. UK = I agree with you wholeheartedly Paji. But if some Gurdwara's allow Charitropakhyan to be simultaneously recited parallel to Maharaj, why should Singh Sabha Gurdwara's in the UK, Canada, USA, Thailand etc be prevented from articulating pro-Gurmat views which stress upon Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj being supreme as Dhan Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj himself ordained?

  38. Yeah its important to realize this and recognize Sikh does not equal Punjabi. Guru Gobind Singh ji was born in Bihar and died in Maharashtra, and a lot of his writing were in Braj Bhasha, not Punjabi. Punjabi culture does not equal Sikh way of life

  39. Adding to the unity in diversity point: another problem with punjabiasation of sikhi is the sehajdhari problem. Less than 10% of punjabi sikhs are amritdhari whereas 90% of non Indian sikhs are amritdhari. Sehajdhari concept has a role to play but it has become the norm to be lifelong sehajdhari (many with cut hair), and punjabi ethnicity or even being brown skinned seems like an automatic entitlement to anand karaj etc. I'm we all recognise that taking gurus amrit is the solution to the rot. Diversity will strengthen sikhi kaum through interactions and strengthening of sikhi religiously.

  40. We sikhs need to discuss and explore this topic further, discussion is good, it will break down barriers and generate awareness. It may not be comfortable to discuss, especially if one is punjabi, but the truth is that sikhi is for all of humanity, it is not exclusively owned and controlled by ethnic Punjabis or even south Asians for that matter. Historically, guru sahiban have spread God's message throughout the lands, as far as Mecca and perhaps Rome and Tibet. The fact that 80% of panj piare were non Punjabis underlines this even further. Only in relatively recent times (beginning Ranjit Singh rule and culminating in division of Indian states on language lines) has there been strong association between punjabi ethnicity and sikh identity. To non punjabi sikhs it is embarrassing and slightly ridiculous that we are labelled as punjabi or for some, Asian. The label if one must be applied, should be sikh of guru granth sahib ji, without borders and ethnic or even national identity. Labels are primary a punjabi problem. It seems that there is some false pride associated with ethnicity (and caste). In comparison Most non Punjabis feel insulted if they are labelled by ethnicity rather than religion (please stop using 'gora' and 'kala'- very offensive). Most Non Punjabis work very hard to learn new language, especially to be able to contemplate on shabad, but what's the harm in using native language as an every day language especially for prayer services? Diversity is creation of god, let us have unity in diversity! Diversity is what will keep sikhi alive. We can see the affects of punjabiasation of sikhi- youth in punjab are losing religion fast but if sikhi was everywhere and for everyone, positive forces of diverse influence may strengthen the kaum as a whole. There are many issues and many consequences to be discussed and contemplated by the sangat. There is fierce resistance in some circles to the non punjabi sikh movement (not referring to 3ho) because they largely do not conform to the prevailing party line (rejecting rituals, desiring strong rehit especially women wanting to wear full bana and be granthis etc, wanting gurdwaras in their country to speak the native language, wanting their gurdwara to focus on worldwide humanitarian issues, wanting outreach /missionary programmes to spread guru jis message everywhere, giving dhan shabad guru ji great reverence, etc, to name a few examples of differences in thinking). To contemplate: Are sikhs ready to declare open shop and quench the thirst for spirituality in the world? Is the sikh kaum ready to label themselves as sikh first and ethnicity/nationality second? Punjabis have a big caste problem. Unless that is solved, how can we expect them to let go of ethnicity or even nationality? Is the Sikh kaum prepared to have large numbers of white black (including south Indians who many Punjabis see as black) and yellow sikhs around the world? Are Punjabis ready to marry and mix interracially based on religious values as the priority? Are Punjabis ready to add new takht outside india to represent interests? Will sgpc and akal takht break its focus with punjab state politics and refocus on religion? Are sikhs ready to serve and protect those suffering outside punjab? Many problems ongoing in the world- from children being raped in Syria, to dying of starvation in madhya pradesh to extermination of gypsies across Europe to threat of world war 3 because of USA/Korea. These are very much issues for akaal purakh ka fauj to solve (peacefully as far as possible). We need to grow up as a religion. Guru sahiban have paved the way. Many issues to be contemplated and discussed. Please forgive me if you feel insulted if i have over generalised about Punjabis, but truth is sometimes harsh.

  41. Yeah Paji at least we Punjabi's had one Gursikh amongst the Panj Pyaaray ... can you imagine what it would have said about us Punjabi's if all of the Panj Pyaaray were non-Punjabi ... but then again I suppose the fact that 200 years ago at the start of the 19th Century a staggering 95% of Punjabi's were Muslims and Hindu's says a lot. Even as recently as1947, we were only 13% of the Punjabi population so Punjab definitely is not the future of Sikhi despite it being the historic cradle.

  42. All the time - but especially so at Vasakhi - we as a Panth need to communicate facts like the geographic origin of our Panj Pyaaray as widely as possible. Too many of our own community don't realise these and allow themselves to pigeon-hole Sikhi to Majha and Malwa only (since Doaba is a Hindu majority region since Indira + her casteist Jatt Congress became aggressive in funding the growth of Dera Ballan and the Balmiki Sabha's there in order to destroy the ethos of saanjhay Gurdwaray). I'm not from the AKJ and nor do I always agree with them but we should commend them for looking to help the poor outside of Punjab as they notably did in Madhya Pradesh recently.

  43. Isn't it a bit of a waste though? That milk could be given to poor people who are starving. I think guru sahib would prefer that rather than people using it to clean him.

  44. Definitely Paji (kaljugi) mentoring is something we need to make compulsory at our Gurdwara like on N30S1NGH 's "Dream Gurdwara" thread. Influencing youngsters straying off the tracks in a non-judgemental way without excessive expectation of them becoming Amritdhari will really move us forward. I think that if we realise that true Amritdhari qualities can only really be exhibited in the top 1% at best ... then we will realise why only 5 Gursikhs stood up out of a sangat of fifty thousand. The key ingredient for a greater Amritdhari population who match the qualities of having a heart "overflowing with love" (and to stand out in a crowd) that Guru Gobind Singh Ji expected of them ... is a greater pool of Sehajdhari brothers and sisters that believe in the basics. We can hardly expect any Khalsay in countries like Iraq overnight, can we? But the Panj Pyaaray's individual backgrounds as 80% non-Punjabi's prove (despite the Sangat in 1699 congregating in Punjab which on paper ought to have perhaps meant a greater percentage of Punjabi's amongst the beloved five) that Sikhi is a universal message and that with the suffering going on globally at present ... we need a new Khalsa Fauj for this day + age to be re-activated under the auspices of the UN.

  45. True Paji + i think it very much depends on family ... perhaps your family were more religious than others families back then where the dad is having a glassy to celebrate this harvest nonsense ... what it leads on to ... is how mentoring of (particularly) Sehajdhari youth (in a non-judgemental way by Gursikhs) is critical. Obviously mentors would not be restricted to Gursikhs anyway of course. As far as I heard it from Giani i respect ... no point "celebrating" a harvest festival when others on this planet going hungry ...

  46. But in a sense kalyugi it's kind of our fault ... if people knew what Vasakhi was actually about ... i reckon all the sharabi crew might even give it a break for 1day! Those that know just have to push the message harder ... but the bhangra labels are killing us + much as i say hats off to D.Bal for doing Sikh Channel ... we have to hit him with feedback that his other station is doing our youngsters harm in terms of the caste baqwaas, alcolhol baqwaas + "punjabi version of 50cent mentality". For all the honest Sikhs that know ... we can't compete with a tv station ... so we got to try cut the root by polite persuasion initially of Davinder Bal for starters

  47. Thanks 10th regiment ... yep if every1 of us keep telling every1 else we know ... 1day non-Sikhs (most importantly) will truly get Vasakhi is about + what it means ... instead of all this party-vibe atmosphere ... that apne youth being encouraged to down a beer or some drug to "celebrate" In today's day+age Khalsa Fauj can be achieved through the medium of the UN to ensure that things like genocides like Rwanda + DR Congo don't happen again ...
